USA Today reports that Pokémon Black & White, the newest versions of the Pokémon RPG, has been sold to more than one million fans on its launch day, setting a new sales record. The previous record was held by Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, which has sold nearly 780,000 copies in 2007.

The company announced the latest releases — Pok√©mon Black and Pok√©mon White — sold more than 1 million copies in the U.S. on launch.

The record numbers shatter the first-day sales figures for 2007 titles Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, which combined to sell 780,000.

The Pok√©mon franchise has been one of Nintendo’s most successful.
