Pokemon Utlra RPG

The Pokemon Ultra RPG (URPG), a community game based on the Pokemon gameboy titles, has recently opened its new Art Gallery section.

This art section will allow Pokemon Trainers to capture Pokemon using their artistic talents. Essentially, to catch a Pokemon, an artist must create one or more pieces depicting the intended Pokemon. Higher quality submissions have a greater chance of resulting in a successful capture.

Now that the section is open, it’s time to begin our adventure. I’d like to encourage our talented members to take a look in the Art Gallery and submit a few pieces. Who knows? Perhaps you might just be able to catch the Pokemon you’ve long waited for. I believe in you and the Curators will help you every step of the way.

The Art Gallery joins four other established URPG Sections: Battles, Stories, National Park, and Contests. Previously, the only way to obtain Pokemon in the URPG was via story writing, roleplaying, mart purchases, or special events.

If you’re interested in joining the Pokemon Ultra RPG, check out the Getting Started thread on Pokemon Elite 2000. Additionally, the URPG has branches on Bulbagarden and Petalburg Woods Network.

Hello! We’re aware that it’s been quite a long time since the last URPG Times was posted, but, unfortunately, Alaska and Gmandiddy were both unable to post the Times. Since they haven’t got enough time on their hands, they’ve hired a new Editor — although I believe they were looking for two (I have no idea who the other one is yet). That new Editor is me, Buoy! I’m sure it’ll be a fun experience, editing the Times. This is my first try, though, so go easy on me.

I hope you all enjoy this issue of the URPG Times!

Last week we investigated how one of the rare and powerful Fossil Pokemon (Aerodactyl) could help you in the competitive aspect of the URPG. This week, we’ll look at how you can actually obtain one, but be warned – the prospect can be a little bit daunting.

Before we begin looking at the writing methods, there is one small note: Aerodactyl can be dug out from the Underground. However, the chance for this to happen is so infinitesimally tiny that it’s barely worth discussing. Feel free to throw down $2500 to try your luck, but don’t count on the Underground as your main method of obtainment. (more…)

Hey there, everyone! You may have noticed that it’s been three weeks since the previous URPG Times instead of the usual two. Don’t worry, it’s not a lack of activity- it’s because this week there is a special double issue in honor of the opening of our TPW branch! (Read More…)

Hey, for those of you who haven’t met me, I’m ChainReaction01, and I’m writing reviews of Pokemon in relation to the Ultra Role-Playing Game, a text-based RPG which is played right here on the PE2K Forums. If this article interests you in any way, you should go check it out!

This fortnight I figured we’d take a look at one of the game’s old favourites: Aerodactyl, one of the rare Fossil Pokemon. He’s been powerful and feared all the way back since Generation I, and that hasn’t changed in the four Generations since. Sure, he’s got his weaknesses, but he’s also got his strengths too. Unfortunately, as you’ll see next week, he’s just as hard to get in the URPG as he is in the games. Arguably even more so.

But let’s leave that discussion for next week. This week, let’s look at how useful Aerodactyl can actually be, so you can decide whether or not you actually want one before trying to earn it. (more…)

Last week we took a look at the Pokemon Charizard, and how much of an asset it can be in your Battling and Coordinating career. This week, prepare to tackle the ordeal of earning one…

Stories:

Charizard is Demanding-level Pokemon, so you’d need to write a very good story to capture one. Normally I’d look at Charmander, as it’s the lowest evolution stage in Charizard’s family, but since Charmander is buyable in the PokeMart if you’re going to pull a Charizard out of a story you might as well do it in style.

First off, any story involving Charizard will need a fleshed-out storyline in addition to developed characters and interesting descriptions. Considering the fact that it can be hard to identify with a very powerful protagonist, I advise you to look at making Charizard an enemy to defeat. Perhaps it’s a dragon that killed the protagonist’s parents in battle, or it’s a legendary wyrm that all warriors aim to defeat. However you involve it in the story, make sure you try to utilise as many of Charizard’s moves as you can. Start with a close-up battle where the dragon can use Slash, Earthquake, Fire Punch, etc, and then have it take flight and use long-range moves like Flamethrower, Solarbeam, and Air Slash. (more…)

Anyway, for the next couple of weeks, I’ll be investigating one of the most famous Pokemon: Charizard. The fiery red dragon is the only non-Legendary Fire/Flying, so he is useful in filling niches. However, as you’ll see, he can do much more than cover weaknesses. Furthmore, he’s rather easy to obtain in the URPG, so you can get a good Charizard up and running without too much effort. This week we’ll look at how Charizard can help you in Contests and Battles, and next week we’ll talk about how to get one. (Continue reading…)

Hello and welcome to another issue of the URPG Times. Looks like it’s my time to publish it this week since Alaska is trapped in an elevator full of bees.

This issue marks the beginning of a new section invented by Fossil Fusion, so be sure to read about it.

Last week we took a look at the Pokemon Lucario, and how useful it was in the competitive aspects of the URPG. This week we’re going to find out how you can obtain one. It might even be easier than you think!

Stories:

Lucario itself is a Demanding-rank Pokemon, but it’s standard practise to write for the lowest evolution stage of a Pokemon, so we’ll look at Riolu for writing purposes. Riolu is Complex, which is where the fanfiction needs to be really fleshed out. At this rank, the Graders are looking for interesting plotlines, cohesive characters, and good, consistent description. This can be really hard to pull off all at the same time, especially for beginning writers. It’s generally not advised for people to try writing at the Complex level until they’ve had a few Medium or Hard rank stories passed. Some examples of stories with successful Riolu captures are:
