View Full Version : [COMPLETE] The Politoed Hunter vs. Ayotui [Referee: Scourge of Amaranth]

Scourge of Amaranth
08-09-2009, 10:50 PM
2v2
One out at a time
DQ: Three days
Restrictions: No OHKO moves.
Damage Caps: None
Arena: Castle
Description: A tall motte and bailey stone castle with many different rooms. The bricks are somewhat unstable, and some attacks on the building may cause it to fall down. Obviously, a Special Fire attack isn't going to destroy the building. By climbing upwards through rooms, you may reach the top of the tower, where there is no roof and is a fight to the death. If you get knocked off this area, it's pretty much gg unless you can fly. Mod decides how far up and how far down you are, you decide which direction you go.

On the subject of the arena.... I'd like to request a mite of elucidation. How many floors, roughly? Also, are the staircases of the tower literally in the rooms, as you seem to have indicated in your post, or is it a spiral staircase that passes by the tower's separate rooms?

Random number generators are fun.

+ The Politoed Hunter is first to send.
+ Ayotui sends his Pokemon and issues orders.
+ The Politoed Hunter gives commands second.
+ It's reffing time.
+ Order of the orders is swapped. [/bad pun] (TPH first, Ayotui second)
+ It's... reffing time again.
+ Ayotui sends moves first; TPH sends second once again.
+ Everything goes 'round 'n 'round again.

Mmkay, The Politoed Hunter, select your Pokemon.

Accuracy: 70%
Classification: Special

-prebattle-

Muffled, hesitant footsteps, slow, steady breaths—an inattentive hand drags slowly across the patched stonework, knocking loose decayed stone and flighting over moss as the trainer moves slowly forward. Before him lies a window, glass-less and crumbling. A ragged drapery, frayed and torn with age and disuse, flutters ever-so-slightly in the breeze; he pushes it aside, coming to lean carefully against the unsteady remnants of the sill as he scans the landscape before him. He barely has time to take in the parched hills and emaciated creatures that roam them before a voice startles him.

“So here you are.”

The trainer, in his surprise, jumps against the window—and stone falls away, out of the castle, slamming against the walls as it tumbles. Scrambling back—breathing hitched—eyes closed—he’s spinning, now, turning to meet the other man. “Ah,” he breathes, and then: “Heh.” Not a laugh—an exhalation, formed out of something that might have been a chuckle if it weren’t so deliberately mocking.

With a twitch of his lips, the newcomer lifts an expectant hand. In it rests a Pokéball, its red and white surface gleaming in the window’s light.

Before he can make another move, the first trainer has whipped out a Pokéball of his own and released its occupant in an eye-searing flash of electronic red light. “Hello again, Ayotui,” he mutters. And standing between the two men is a Riolu, blue paws raised. The fighting-type Pokémon shifts lithely from leg to leg, bobbing its tail slightly and narrowing red eyes as its opposing trainer—Ayotui—closes his fingers over the release catch of his own Pokéball. Out of the beam materializes a globular, upright puddle, complete with eyes and a purple paint job rivaling the palest sprig of lavender in hue.

And the battle begins.

-round i-

Both opponents begin to gather energy immediately—but the Riolu is faster. Glowing, the two Pokémon race to the first move; Copypaste is only writhing and giving off a dull white gleam when Azura engulfs himself entirely in a shimmering light. The two trainers, tense and eager, reluctantly cover their eyes to block the glare, well aware that even a second’s blindness, move-induced or otherwise, could cost them victory. The flash of the faster Pokémon’s maneuver fades away in moments, leaving a spectral Riolu replica in Azura’s place as the substitute’s formation completes.

The substitute is already transitioning into its next command, giving its arms a slow flex in Copypaste’s direction and grinning pointedly as razor-sharp, glowing swords emerge from the blunted bumps on its forearms. Copypaste the Ditto, gunky body convulsing, ceases to glow at precisely the same moment, and with the light’s dissolution, Azura’s substitute can see that the purple blob has solidified into an exact replica of its own dog-like body.

There is a lull in the action as the two proxy forms, stepping back ever-so-slightly, careful to avoid tripping over the debris scattered across the castle floor, pause to eye each other up. Azura is well aware that he has the advantage—he is in control of a façade that will protect him from even the most brutal of attacks, and is in possession of two powerful blades that greatly increase the power of his blows. The effort of forming such a protection has left him slightly handicapped right off the bat, but to him, the Swords Dance more than makes up for the earlier loss. His glee shows in the wolfish grin that rips across the otherwise puppy-ish face of his substitute.

Copypaste, on the other hand, finds itself slightly cowed. Although more powerful than it was previously, the foot-long blades extending from Azura’s paws appear awfully vicious. It knows, though, in a flash of certainty, that its trainer will provide it with the right commands, will prevent it from being permanently damaged, will pull it through this encounter successfully. This knowledge is enough to spur Copypaste into action again, and it performs its master’s command: the blue-furred muzzle gapes wide, jagged teeth glimmering white, and a clouded ball of smog is blasted forth. The Toxic assault blasts into the substitute, clouding in thick rings of smoky poison, but Azura just shrugs it off, raising a now-glowing palm and running straight at Copypaste, little legs flying—the substitute absorbs the attack effortlessly, negating all poisonous side affects.

Copypaste is moving with just as much speed, raising its own Riolu palms before it to gather energy. The air begins to shimmer; a green sphere forms, surrounding the Transformed Ditto into a paper-thin, strong-as-steel protective force-field. It is this Protect that Azura’s furry palm slams into, this Protect that a star-bright surge of the Force Palm’s energy slams into. The force slides right over the barrier like water pouring over a roof, skirting the sides and fading away into nothing. With a few lithe steps, Azura is backing away, frowning with irritating. The green shield fades into the air. Copypaste smiles slightly—despite its earlier botched move, it has had a small victory.

Round one is concluded.

Moves: Stairs ~ Focus Punch ~ Toxic

-round ii-

Copypaste scans the room, wide red eyes darting from corner to corner, legs shuffling as it turns ever-so-slightly. Stairs, stairs, need to find stairs; it spots them peaking out from a corner of the hallway after a few moments, but a few moments is too many. Already, Azura’s substitute is opening its mouth to release a Toxic attack of its own. A thick cloud of poison billows into Copypaste, engulfing the small Pokémon. The poison clings to its fur, flooding its nostrils; nausea sets in, fast and hard. Stumbling forward, Copypaste flees to the stairs as commanded, scrabbling through debris and cracked stone. As his feet pound upwards, some of the steps crumble away, tumbling backwards down the staircase.

Azura, determined to obey his master despite this slight twist in proceedings, runs after. The substitute’s ever-so-slightly-translucent legs churn, leaping and bounding up the stairs in pursuit of Copypaste. A grimace rips down Copypaste’s muzzle as it turns to meet the Riolu at the top of the stairs and begins lifting a fist, which glows pale blue in preparation for a Focus Punch. Azura sees this, and, eyes narrowed, charges his own attack—Drain Punch. He knows that a successful blow landed as Copypaste continues to focus will blow the entire attack, and is hesitant to take a blow of such power on his substitute. Copypaste, however, is already cringing. Drain Punch slams into furry stomach with a flash of green-glowing paw and blue-lit blade. Any chance the Ditto had to smash Azura’s protection with Focus Punch is lost with its concentration.

Azura gives a cocky grin, all teeth and sneer, as Copypaste’s own life force swarms up the substitute’s arm and seeps through its pores, settling into the Pokémon beneath. In an instant, he is transitioning effortlessly to the next move. Both arms rise to make X formation, and the jagged blades meet each other with a savage sizzle of energy. The arms slice downwards; the blades drag against each other, sparking blue, screaming their protest before they are released into the air and slash through Copypaste’s fur. The Transformed Pokémon falls back with a snarl of pain, lifting a subconscious paw to the impact site. Its mouth gapes open in another Toxic attack, as its trainer commanded, but it knows it will do no good—Azura’s substitute is still woefully in place, unmarred by the fray. The black smog emerges from its mouth, seeking entrance to Azura’s façade and finding none. The purge of roiling smoke dies down and Copypaste snaps its jaws shut, then hops back, fists raised before itself protectively.

Another round come and gone, and no damage dealt by Copypaste. The poison seeping through its veins only compounds the Ditto’s natural apprehension; Azura just shifts from paw to paw, sneer-grin firmly affixed to his substitute’s face.

-notes-

Azura: (Toxic – Poison – Energy -3%) (Drain Punch – Health -8% [+4% Self] – Energy -4%) (Cross Chop – Health -10% – Energy -4%)

Negations: (Focus Punch – Drain Punch) (Copypaste’s Toxic – Substitute)
Miscellaneous: As Focus Punch was only partially completed, only 1/3 energy has been subtracted. Toxic did 2% damage on Copypaste this turn.

-round iii-

Orders are issued once again. The Pokémon react quickly to the familiar tones of their trainer’s voices—Copypaste is already gathering itself, a steely glint in its eye. Azura’s substitute returns the glare with a deepening of its full-muzzled sneer, then bounds backwards down the hall, paws scraping against the walls carelessly. No windows adorn this no-longer-vacant passage—instead, as Azura moves, sunlight streams through decayed holes eaten into the stones by wind and age. Copypaste moves to follow and complete its attack; Azura has already reached the end of the hallway, though, where it breaks into a room dotted with rotten, collapsed furniture and dusty candelabras. He lifts his palms, and a semi-sphere forms above him in shimmering green. It is this that Copypaste’s Brick Break, in a sharp arc of palm, slams into.

A surge of frustration surges through Copypaste, and the poison takes its toll. Another attack—wasted. More energy—wasted. The Ditto has done much work with little to show for it. Azura bends his knees, preparing for a leap, as Copypaste raises its own Riolu arms. Even as the real Riolu, in a blur of black-and-blue fur, jumps and plummets, slamming itself against the moss-encrusted ground, the copy encases itself in another Protect sphere.

The Riolu’s attack throws the ground into a deluge of tremors. Copypaste hears the deafening rumbles, sees the stones quake and tumble, but feels not a thing in its protective shell. The castle itself, however, can make no such claims—it hears, it sees, and it feels, for its very stones are crumbling beneath it. The Earthquake-induced spasms fade away, the Protect’s ephemeral sheen fade away; but the castle’s trembling does not cease. In a moment of commiserated understanding, the two Pokémon and two trainers meet eyes from across the room.

Silence. They stand in frozen silence amidst the roar. And then—

The first stone plummets from the floor beneath them, and it is the first tear in a storm of sobbing. Slowly, oh-so-slowly, it seems to them, the rock tears away, tumbles away, tear-tracking across the walls beneath—and then the rocks are falling, the tears are flooding, everything is crushing down.

The trainers are hugging the walls, trying to get a way—but the Pokémon are moving again, falling amongst the tumbling stones. They scramble, leaping from rock to rock at break-neck speeds; Copypaste seizes its chance. In Azura’s distraction, the Ditto hurls another billowing could of Toxic smoke from its mouth. The Riolu’s eyes are glowing green, Detecting, trying to flee the rocks, and the Toxic slides right by, dissolving against the side of a spinning rock.

They are fine, really, falling down—until the other floors, relieved of their support base, begin to collapse on top. There is nothing they can do. Stone after stone slams into them with savage clunks as they strive to leap away from the bottom of the collapse; the dreadful cacophony is only broken by the occasional piece of shattered furniture. Somewhere towards the end of the storm, a piano drops with a discordant clang of keys, conveniently landing square on top of one of the Pokémon.

The dust clears.

Neither Pokémon is in sight.

And then—something stirs. Rubble slides away as a Riolu, battered and bruised, looking rather nauseated, pushes itself out of a pile of stones. It lifts itself gingerly, then gains confidence. Red eyes cast about the room in search of its opponent—and there, beneath the piano, a lonely Riolu ear peeps out.

Moments later, it begins to rise. Disembodied ivory teeth fall from the piano’s mouth as the battling beast beneath it lifts himself to his feet. Azura brushes off the dust, then gives Copypaste a condescending smirk.

His Substitute may be gone, but not a single stone scratched Azura himself.

And the round is concluded.

-notes-

Azura: (Protect – Protects – Energy -5%) (Earthquake – Health -10% – Energy -5%) (Detect – Detects – Energy -5%)
Copypaste: (Brick Break – Health -6% – Energy -4%) (Protect – Protects – Energy -5%) (Toxic – Poisons – Energy -3%)
Rolls: (Floor Collapse – 2) (Azura Rubble Damage – 2) (Copypaste Rubble Damage – 2)
Negations: (Brick Break – Azura’s Protect) (Earthquake – Copypaste’s Protect) (Rubble Damage – Substitute) (Toxic – Detect)
Miscellaneous: First off, Toxic took 4%. Substitute was broken by the building. And then comes the interesting part…. The building’s collapse goes like this. Earthquake knocked down their floor, which, being located on the fifth floor (after initial roll and floor ascent) out of ten, left five floors to drop on top (and one floor to fall down). Another roll declared that two floors collapsed, leaving the top three kinda… hazardously hanging. Stairs are still relatively intact, as they’re against the wall. Ascent is still possible, but could be hazardous. Anyway. Two floors of hallway and room full of furniture, so damage possibilities were 20% and 30%, respectively; two entire floors of stone is pretty crushing force. Rolled a die to pick between the two damages, one being 20% with Paralyze and two being 30%; Azura and Copypaste both got hit with 30%. Also, they’re now located on floor four, the starting point, again.

I struggled to regain my balance. Who knew such a tiny Pokemon could cause such a tremendous attack? Nevertheless, I got up and was ready to order my Pokemon into battle again.

"OK Azura, he is pretty weakened. However, we still have far to go. Open with a Swords Dance. Then use Agility. End the round with a Drain Punch. If at any time he decides to status you, use Substitute."

Thanks for reffing Amaranth. Really detailed description of the surroundings, the attacks, the trainer's emotions, etc. :3

Good game Ayotui.

I'll decide what I want later. Hmm.

EDIT: I'd like a Spiritomb. If there is some rule against that, I'd like a Sableye. Thanks!
