I originally had this fanfic on the old forum but alas it was deleted, and since Pokemon Colosseum rekindled my spark for this fan fic. Feel free to leave your comments on this thread. :)
Chapter One: Captivated!
Another quiet day in the sleepy village of Pallet Town with the latest crop of Pokemon Trainers leaving to start their journeys. Also with the pride of Pallet Town; Ash Ketchum gone to the far-off land of Hoenn to seek new challenges; the town itself seems to feel like a giant house with all the kids gone. No one feels that more than Professor Oak as the days are filled with the unending research and relaxation. Sitting at his computer typing out his latest findings for the scientific periodicals he let out a gapping yawn as Tracy came in with the paper and a cup of coffee.
“You’ve been working on that report all morning Professor, maybe it’s time you took a break.”
The professor turned and took the tray setting it beside keyboard muttering, “I suppose…” speaking a higher tone he asked, “When is that trainer from Hoenn coming in?”
“Oh, he phoned in earlier this morning.” Tracy replied, “He arrived in Vermilion City around 10 o’ clock so he’ll be here within the hour.”
“Good, good. I need those new Pokemon Treecko, Mudkip and Torchic for my research.”
“Not to mention demand for them seems to be growing.” Tracey added, noting the recent visit of Hajime.
“If they want those Pokemon they’ll have to catch them in Hoenn,” Oak sighed, “I know newly-discovered Pokemon are exciting but there’s nothing wrong with the classics.”
Only a short distance away Delia Ketchum was walking to the Professor’s house with a book she borrowed from him. Humming a tune she paused when she heard a whimpering noise from the bushes along side the side. Turning and kneeling she lifted the branch to see an injured Poochyena cowering.
“Sssssssssh.” She cooed soothingly, “It’s alright I’ll just…”
Bringing her fingers closer the Poochyena bolted back up and snapped its jaws. She recoiled but only to realize snarling noises behind her. Her face flushed in fear.
“Don’t worry,” A voice called, “They won’t attack unless we tell them to. Now get up ma’am and turn around. Slowly.”
Doing as she was told, Delia got up slowly and turned around at the same pace. She found that the snarling was from a pack of Mightyenas whose trainers dressed up as sailors with the blue cargo pants, striped shirts and bandanas. Of the three (two male, one female) the one in the middle pulled out his Pokeball and called.
The beam of red light hit the Poochyena and went back into the pokeball, this man the leader of the trio held out his other hand introducing himself.
“My name is Rich and my associates David, Shelly and I represent a group called Team Aqua and we take it you know where Professor Samuel Oak lives. Do ya’? If not I guess you’re dog food.”
Delia was paralyzed by terror and but couldn’t even choke out a world the tree could understand. Growing impatient in his tone Rich asked again, “Do you know where Professor Oak lives?”
“Yes,” Delia blurted out, “I do.”
“Excellent,” Rich hissed gleefully, anticipating their next move, “Kindly show us the way ma’am.”
Nervously Delia led them up the stairs of Oak’s estate but the Team Aqua members kept their distance. Mrs. Ketchum walked up to the door and rung the doorbell. Trace opened the door and smiled but his grin turned to a grimace of concern.
“Mrs. Ketchum you look pale,” Tracey told her, “Are you…”
A ball of ice sailed through the air hitting Tracey on the head before he could finish the question knocking him out. Delia gasped as the Mightyenas ran in, she could believe hit. Rich grabbed her arm and shoved her in while David dragged Tracey in. Shelley looked around seeing no witnesses.
“Spheal! Return!” She ordered running into the lab, closing the door. From the outside it would appear that everything appeared normal.”
Professor Oak got out of his eat and called out into the hallway, “Tracey, is everything all right?”
The Mightyenas came to a stop surrounding Oak as Rich came into the lab dragging in a struggling Delia with him. “Professor Oak we meet.”
“If you hurt that woman I’ll…” Oak roared clenching his fit
“You…” Rich interrupted, “…Are in no position to demand anything. I thought our Pokemon would spell that for you. And I would hate to hurt this beautiful lady…”
“Let go of me you creep!” Delia protested, repeatedly punching Rich in the arm.
Rich only chuckled unfazed by her assaults, “Feisty little one eh? David?”
“Heh, heh” David snickered dragging in Tracey, “Yeah.”
Looking at Tracey and Delia Oak shook his head and sighed in resignation, “You win. What do you want?.”
“Why don’t you sit down and we’ll talk about it.” Rich replied.
Outside, the bus stopped in front of the lab and a lone trainer walked out. A boy in his late-teens with platinum blonde hair, with bright red streaks, about 6’ 4” wearing a black, red and orange trainer’s outfit. Looking at the piece of paper as the bus rolled on behind him.
“This is the place.” He said, “Who would think Professor Birch would ask me out of all people to deliver these pokemon to Professor Oak?”
Though by far not a favorite of Professor Birch’s he was asked to deliver these rare Pokemon from Hoenn because he finished third in the Hoenn League Championships and the other two trainers were unavailable. But hey! A free trip’s a free trip; especially if it’s to meet the famous Professor Samuel Oak. His anticipation growing as he took a step closer and chilling raced up his spine as he came to the doorstep and rung the door bell. A minute later and no answer he tired again. Another minute later; no response. A bit discouraged he tried again a final time and two minutes later no response.
He growled, “He much be out for lunch or something.” Shrugging and noticing his empty stomach he sighed , “I guess I better get…” feeling a buzzing sensation in his pokeball belt one of his pokeballs shook of the belt falling to the ground it opened releasing a Raichu.
“Deluge?” he groaned
The Raichu frantically cried, “Rai rai chu Raichuuuu.”
“What?” He asked
Deluge darted around the side of the building, “Rai!”
“Can this wait?” The trainer groaned turning the other way, “No one’s home and I need to get some grub.”
Deluge growled, “Raiiiiiiii!” then fired a Thundershock at his Trainer’s posterior forcing him to jump and turn around.”
“OW!” he yelped, “Okay, okay you win! I’ll go!” and he followed his Raichu muttering “Smart aleck.”
Laying low like Deluge the trainer crawled to under a open window where the Raichu stopped the Raichu perked up its ears and said, “Rai rai!” Poking up his head to hear the trainer overheard the conversation Rich and Professor Oak were having.
“…surely Professor you can appreciate making more homes for Water Pokemon. Give us the information on the legendary pokemon of Kanto and Johto and we’ll be on our merry way.”
“Never!” Professor Oak snapped back, “You’re talking about destroying the homes of humans and land pokemon alike!”
Hearing enough the trainer looked to his Raichu, “How do you know about these things?”
Deluge shrugged with his short front legs, “Rai?”
“Let’s crash this party.” He said in a hushed expression.
Deluge nodded, “Raichu!”

Chapter 1 Continued
Rich shook his head, “I’m disappointed, I guess we’ll have to this the hard way. Mightyena?”
One of the Mightyenas stepped up towards Delia glaring its teeth and snarl loudly. She shrieked fearful of what these creeps were planned. Looking back at Professor Oak; Rich asked, “Choose: Your friend here will become an entrée or you give us your files.”
Looking at Delia cowering he cried, “Okay you can have them, just don’t…”
Then in the background a crashing sound interjected and all present (and conscious) turned their heads to the source down the hall, the front door. Rich ordered the Mightyena pack to investigate; a few seconds later the pack was sent flying into a bookshelf.
“What the?!” Rich gasped, “Who’s that?!”
The Team Aqua trio dashed into the hall and found it was a trainer, one they knew from Hoenn.
“Blaze!” Rich growled, “Stay in matters that concern you!”
“When you hold Professor Oak captive,” Blaze answered sternly, “You made it my business.”
“I’ll make you wish you didn’t interfere with Team Aqua,” Rich yelled, “David, Shelly seize him!”
“Talk is cheap Richie Boy…” Blaze snickered pointing to the two charging TA members, “Sizzle! Double Kick!”
From behind Blaze a Blaziken leapt and bolted towards David and Shelly, ripping through them with inhuman speed; like their Mightyenas the two humans were sent flying back. Shakily they got up dazed and slightly confused.
Triumphantly the Blaziken looked over them and snorted, “Kennnnnnn.” Deluge ran up to Sizzle’s side ready to attack Rich who was holding a pair of pokeballs in his hand.
“Go ahead,” Blaze taunted, “I know you either carry Poochyenas, Mightyenas and water pokemon. Leave while you still can or Sizzle and Deluge will make short work of you.”
Rich growled as he, David and Shelly took out their Pokeballs and recalled their Mightyenas, “This isn’t over Blaze.”
“Yadda, yadda, yadda.” Blaze mocked recalling Sizzle and Deluge, “Call me when you can back up those words.”
Without another word the three left through the back door and when the tension cleared up Professor Oak got up and approached the trainer.
“Young man,” he said offering a handshake, “You just saved our lives, Delia and I are grateful.”
Delia nodded in agreement and smiled, “Thank you… Blaze.”
Letting out a nervous chuckle Blaze croaked out, “Heh, thanks.”
Tracey was starting to come to groaning, “Blaze?” groggily getting up his eyes then widened and he cried out, “You’re the trainer that was delivering the rare pokemon from Hoenn!”
“Make that is…” Blaze replied taking off his backpack and took out a metal case and handed it to Professor Oak.
The professor took it and placed it on the table where the other tree crowded him as he opened it. “Looks like everything’s in order.” Professor said and everyone backed off. When he turned to Blaze.
“I hate to hate favors of someone that just saved us.”
“Oh,” Blaze replied, “Anything for you Professor Oak, it will be no problem at all.”
Oak nodded was walked to a cabinet and pulled something out a custom Pokeball with various patterns and engravings. Leading Blaze, Delia and Tracey outside Oak point towards the road leading north.
“That road leads to Viridian City,” He explain, “Last week my grandson Gary, became leader of their gym. I’m too busy with my research to visit him personally so can you make sure he receives this.”
Oak placed the pokeball in Blaze’s hand, he placed it in his pocket, “Consider it done Professor Oak.”
Professor Oak nodded and told him, “Go!”
With that Blaze broke into a dash and turned back waving, “See you all later!” he called out.
“Bye!” Delia called back waving, Tracey groaned as he was waving back then rubbing his bruise. Delia held his shoulders and told him, “Let’s get some ice for that bruise.”
She lead him back into the lab leaving the Professor out there to stand there watching Blaze disappear into the landscape. Smiling he walked back to his lab where he could finish the day’s research.

Chapter 2: Old Friends
Night falls in the forests between Pallet Town and Viridian City; at best it would take a day’s walk to get there but you’d have to start in the morning. Blaze left in the late afternoon and had to set up camp in the forest. He could easily finish the trip tomorrow, besides his pokemon and he could use some rest. Sizzle and his Aggron; Ironhide started the fire and Sizzle was sitting on a log quietly stoking it. Deluge, Deep End (Swampert), Shakes (Ludicolo) and Ironhide were busy eating. Blaze meanwhile was in his tent writing an e-mail on his laptop.
I have to tell you Kanto is looking better than I ever expected and the forests between Pallet Town and Viridian remind me very much about Petalburg Woods. Speaking of which I was thinking about the time you and I ventured through the woods with only us and your Treecko and my Torchic and how we both promised each other that we’d both become Pokemon Masters. Here we are seven years later and have since parted ways; I’m still taking the Gym Leader challenge and you’re on the contest circuit (BTW I’m glad to hear you got first in the contest in Lilycove; I bet mom and dad are glowing with pride.) I thought I could continue on without you there for support but the past two years have been almost unbearably lonely.
Today, when delivering the rare pokemon to Professor Oak; I learned that he, a neighbor of his and his assistant were being held captive in his lab by Team Aqua. Luckily Deluge and I arrived and along with Sizzle we drove them off. Between you and me I never felt such a rush; I managed to chase off Team Aqua the gang that gives Officer Jenny in Slateport such a hard time. Maybe I should change my profession to “Gang Buster” =P
Professor Oak asked me to deliver this pokeball to his grandson in Viridian. So tell mom and dad back in Lavaridge that I love them and I’ll be coming home as soon as I can.
Your Favorite Twin ;)
-Benjamin “Blaze” St. Helens
He smiled as he clicked “send”, Deluge walked inside beside Blaze who smiled back at him.
“Well that’s that,” Blaze told him, “Time for supper.”
In the background in addition to the crackling fire Blaze and his pokemon heard a call, “Help!” Bolting outside Blaze and the pokemon looked into the forest as the voice came closer and closer. Instinctively Ironhide and Deep End tensed themselves for battle as Pokemon thieves often would con an unsuspecting trainer into thinking they needed help before robbing them blind. This voice however sounded familiar to Blaze so he looked at Ironhide and Deep End and ordered them, “Stand down, I think he’s friendly.” They did and backed off.
“Help me please!” the voice called again
“Over here!” He yelled
Quickly the crunching of leaves from a frantic runner became clearer and clearer and the outline of another train became visible, emerging into the dim light of the fire the trainer panted, “This Scyther, he needs your help.”
Even with the low light Blaze could recognize him a trainer of Asian descent with navy blue hair wearing the darkest rest pants, a dark nay blue T-shirt and a faded orange vest. Not only that we was carrying a near-fainted Scyther in his arms, “Lee?” he asked.
Lee’s eyes lit up as he looked at Blaze, “Blaze, thank heaven! Do you have an antidote I can use?”
Blaze nodded, “Maybe.” So he dashed to his tent and pulled out his backpack frantically searching for an antidote. To his luck he found one, Sizzle gave up his seat on the log to allow Lee to lay down the Scyther. Blazed asked handing the Antidote to Lee, “What happened to him?”
Lee took it as he pour the antidote into the Scyther’s mouth, where it slowly drank it. “This young trainer challenged me and you know how you can not refuse a challenge right?” he explained.
“I easily defeated his other Pokemon,” Lee continued, “But when my Muk defeated poisoned his Scyther with a Sludge Bomb the little twerp ran and abandoned him. So I did the only thing I could do take the Scyther and try and find help. I’m lucky I found you Blaze, this pokemon could’ve died if I didn’t find your camp.”
“He’s lucky, but will need to be brought to a pokecenter if he is to make a full recovery. However the closest one’s in Viridian so you two will have to set up camp here.” Blaze said pulling out his cookware, “I have enough food for all of us.”
“I agree,” Lee replied pulling out a pokeball from his pocket of which he put the Scyther in, “It’s too dark to continue, besides we have a lot of catching up to do.”
Blaze recalled his other Pokemon save for Deluge and started cooking his and Lee’s supper. While Lee set up his tent and watched the meal cook, when it was finished the two entertained themselves with tales of their adventures over their meal. Laughing throughout the funny moments, till the fire was on his dying embers.
“..and so those Team Aqua grunts ran like a Poochyena with its tail between its legs!”
And the two laughed, settling down Blazed wiped the tears from his laughing fit before asking.
“So why weren’t you at the Hoenn Championships this year? Were you here in Kanto?”
“Nah,” Lee said shaking his head and snorting, “I really don’t want to make my Pokemon battle for competition anymore. So I’m taking in abandoned Pokemon and nursing them back to health full-time now. I only arrived in Pallet Town four days ago.”
Blaze nodded, “I remembered that about you; taking Pokemon people said couldn’t win a battle for poketreats and you fashioned them into an incredible force. A regular Ash Ketchum eh Lee?”
“Yeah,” Lee chuckled, “But unlike him I actually won a few Championships.”
“Be nice,” Blaze said, “He did win the Orange Islands Championships, I was there myself. But anyway why give up on training?”
“Because I don’t see pokemon as tools for battle or personal glory,” Lee replied looking at his empty dinner plate, “Many trainer don’t or refuse to realize that a pokemon battles for it’s trainer because of the intense loyalty it feels. Younger trainers like the one I met don’t realize it, but that loyalty has to go both ways like the relationship you and Deluge have.”
Deluge jumped up shouting, “Rai!”
Lee smiled, “Then there’s Team Aqua who see their Pokemon as petty tools to be tossed aside. You said they’re operating in Kanto now?”
Blaze nodded, “I can’t figure out why though, maybe has to do with Team Rocket setting up shop in Hoenn. You’re the psychic here Lee you tell me.”
He got Lee and took the plates setting them up on the table preparing to wash the plates. Lee got up; stretched then yawned. “I may have some psychic power, but nowhere as near as intense as your run-of-the-mill psychic or like my sibling Tate and Liza. So I can’t help you there Blaze.” Lee said, “But one thing I can tell you is, this will not bode well for Kanto.”

Intermission 1: Strange Times & Strange Bedfellows
Back near Hoenn all was relatively quiet except at Team Aqua’s hideout, Team Magma had invaded and the grunts on both sides were battling fiercely . Carelessly jets of water and fire wreaked destruction attracting the attention of Archie. Surveying the fighting he yelled out.
“Stop this now, Team Aqua withdraw your Pokemon.”
The Team Aqua grunts silently did as they were told, surprisingly Team Magma also stopped in their tracks and withdrew their pokemon. Like they weren’t here to fight, Archie shot a menacing glare at their leader Maxie.
“You have a lot of nerve walking into Team Aqua’s base to attack.”
“I came to offer you a proposition,” Maxie explained, “Your grunts were the ones that attacked us when we came here. If you haven’t noticed we stopped attacking as well.”
Archie looked at his men and shot back, “Alright Maxie, I’ll listen.”
“I noticed that you have a group operating in Kanto,” Maxie smirked, “Very risky considering how that’s Giovanni’s turf.”
“What Team Aqua does is none of your concern!”
“Jason?” Maxie called to one of his administrators who took a large brown envelope from his bag and handing to him. Maxie tossed the envelope to Archie’s hands, “I take it you heard about Team Rocket’s operations in Hoenn.”
“Oh yeah,” Archie huffed taking out the snapshots of Jesse, James and Meowth, “A trio of dolts who can’t even capture a 12 year old’s Pikachu. They are no threat to us.”
“Wrong,” Maxie said, “This is Giovanni wanting Hoenn under his thumb and for him to do that. He’ll have to rub us both out of the picture by sending more of his forces and recruiting here in Hoenn. Certainly that transcends our arguments over the ocean and land.”
“Very well,” Archie sighed, “What do you propose?”
“Both Team Magma and Team Aqua will send teams to Kanto to begin a counter-campaign to force Giovanni and Team Rocket out of Hoenn, after the campaign is finished both our teams must agree to leave Kanto in the span of one week,” Maxie replied, “I am willing to contribute Team Magma’s resources to such a project. What do you see Archie.”
After pausing for a bit Archie answered, “I’ll call a temporary suspension of hostilities I’ll inform my agents in Kanto.”
He offered an uneasy handshake which Maxie accepted but he kept his face close to Maxie’s whispering, “If you don’t hold your end of the bargain; I’ll destroy you myself.”
“It’s a two-way street,” Maxie whispered back, “Remember that.”
Maxie turned around and order his grunts to move out, but he didn’t even turn to face Archie when he shouted, “I’ll make the arrangements to send some of my finest to Kanto by tomorrow. We’ll be in touch Archie.”
Looking over the snapshots of Team Rocket Archie mutter, “I’m sure we will Maxie, and well wipe out Giovanni. For good.”

Chapter 3: Ultimatum
The sun rose over the metropolis known as Viridian City, wearing a light trench coat Nurse Joy shielded herself from the cool damp morning air walking towards the pokecenter. Humming a tune she unlocked the door, pokecenters usually don’t close but in the case where no trainers are using the bunks; there was no reason to stay open. Turning on the lights, then her computer as well as well as disengaging the security system. One thing was missing though; when she realized it she walked to the door flipping the “We Are Closed” sign to the “Yes We Are Open” side.
After returning to behind the counter and working for a few minutes, she didn’t notice a canister until she noticed the air inside fogging up.
“What in the world…?”
Within the smoke a pair of shadows emerged as a female announced…
“Prepare for trouble!”
“Make it double!” A froggy male voice then chimed
“To infect the world from devastation!”
“To blight all peoples within every nation!”
“You can skip the introductions Team Rocket,” Nurse joy called out, “You aren’t getting what you want this time.”
She tried to reach for the “button” but the female assailant upon seeing this threw a pokeball releasing the Sableye inside. The ghost-type pokemon snatched Nurse Joy’s hand.
“Didn’t anyone tell you Nurse Joy,” The female giggled emerging from the smoke, the duo revealing themselves to be Butch and Cassidy , “Team Rocket always gets what it wants.”
“Well not everything my dear,” A voice echoed as a ring of glowing eyes pierced the smoke surrounding Butch and Cassidy, “Team Rocket shall not have Hoenn as long as we're around.”
Then a ring consisting of Mightyenas, Carvahna, Numels along with various Team Aqua and Team Magma members circled the vastly outnumbered Rockets.
“We represent the interests of our leaders Archie and Maxie,” The lead Team Magma member explained, “…And they’re not pleased with Team Rocket’s presence in our territory.”
“All complaints may be addressed to the boss,” Cassidy told them, “Now butt out of our business!”
“Oh you misunderstand ‘Cassidy’,” The Team Magma administrator sneered, “We are here to issue Giovanni an ultimatum. ‘Stay out of Hoenn or suffer the consequences.’”
“Heh heh heh,” his Team Aqua counterpart Rich chuckled, “While we’re at it why not plunder this pokecenter I bet some nice pokemon are being stored in here. Heh heh heh.”
Seemingly in unison Butch, Cassidy and Nurse Joy protested with a loud, “NO!”
“You three have no choice in the matter,” The Team Magma leader hissed.
Unknown to the whole party they were being watched, one figure threw a pokeball. Once it hit the ground a Blaziken came out hissing, “Ennnnnnnn…”
It’s reflexes like a prize fighter’s it didn’t take long for it to create chaos within the lobby as Mightyenas were tossed around like rag cloths. A swarm of Carvahna flocked into position to drench the blaze pokemon. Leading his offensive was Rich he yelled to the Carvahna. “Water Gun attack now.”
“Rai!” a voice screamed firing a Thunderbolt at the swarm effectively taking them out.
“Deep End! Shakes!,” An unknown voice ordered, “Water Gun attack!”
Two jets of water shot out and flushed a majority of the Team Magma members into a wall knocking them out cold.
“Those pokemon,” Rich gasped looking to the Team Magma administrator, “They’re Blaze’s!”
“Well,” He replied pulling out a pokeball, “Jason Etna never cowers before a mere Pokemon Trainer. Camerupt go!”
Even as the pokeball was still airborne a Skarmory crashed through the upper windows and snatched the ball with its talons. Rich and Jason gapped at the sight as a Muk slithered in and charging up its Hyper Beam attack. With the incredle force of the attack the two were scattered as the beam blasted a hole in the wall.
“Excellent job Deathstrike,” Lee complimented, “Well Blaze it looks like we have them on the run!”
“Pushovers…” Blaze smugly snorted.
Amidst the chaos Butch and Cassidy took the chance to flee recalling Sableye and making a run for it. Blaze however noticed the two trying to make the escape and gave chase to them with the Team Rocket members already piling into the van. Frantically Butch slid the keys into the ignition.
“Hurry!” Cassidy screamed
“Lousy piece of…” Butch growled, turning the key and putting on the gas.
Suddenly the van’s engine roars and the vehicle was rolling off the driveway , Blaze leapt and could barely make it; desperately holding onto the rail. Upon gaining a foothold he pulled out a pokeball whispering to it, “Only you can do this…”
By this time the van was really picking up speed, Blaze threw the pokeball up ahead of the Van yelling as the energy started to form a shape, “Ironhide! Iron Defense now!”
Upon forming a shape the Aggron quickly raise a glowing white force field, Butch slammed the brakes as hard as he could and Blaze jumped off rolling into a patch of grass. The van however was totaled by the collision but Ironhide stood there unharmed. Snorting at the now unconscious Butch and Cassidy and slowly walked toward it’s trainer who was laying there motionless.
Officer Jenny arrived on her motorcycle stopping to inspect the wrecked van, the only question that was left resonating in her head was “What could’ve done this?” There was no lampposts, trees or hydrants in the immediate vicinity. Her answer came as she swung around the hood finding the Aggron overlooking a trainers. Approaching carefully the Aggron say her and roared as she tried to approach the train.
“Whoa there big guy!,” She told it, “I’m a friend. Officer Jenny of the Viridian PD.”
Ironhide snorted and backed away letting her kneel before the trainer, “I don’t think he seriously injured…”
Blaze then tossed and moaned, “…did anyone get the number of the bus that hit me?”
“Doesn’t really matter,” Officer Jenny replied, “Looks like your Aggron stopped that Team Rocket van.”
Leaping to his feet he cried, “Team Rocket?! Oh no, Team Aqua and Team Magma!”
He tried to make a break for it only to be stopped by Officer Jenny, “I can’t let you go back in there, not in our condition.”
“But my friend…!” he protested
“Will be fine,” She explained, “Back-up’s already on the way.”
Already within sight were the police vans, Team Aqua and Team Magma already were hearing the sirens. Jason looked at Rich.
“Looks like we have to split,” He said withdrawing his pokemon and pulling out his last pokeball.
“How do you suggest we do that?” Rich sarcastically remarked.
“Pokeball go!” Jason shouted releasing his Alakazam, “Alakazam! Teleport!”
“Kazam!” in a radiant flash the Team Aqua and Team Magma members disappeared. Leaving behind an empty lobby and a confused Lee and Nurse Joy.

Chapter 3 Continued
About an hour later things started to clear up as Lee and Blaze verified their identities and told the authorities what they knew of Team Aqua and Team Magma’s sudden appearance. They were equally surprised to find out that neither team had the intention of plundering the pokecenter’s pokemon but to give Team Rocket an ultimatum. Not being detectives they both went to do what they originally intended to come to the pokecenter for.
Blaze was busy at the PC center switching his pokemon and also trying to quell his little brother’s raging cries.
“But you promised!”
“Calm down Ashton,” Blaze calmly replied, “I have some more business to do in Kanto before I can return.”
“You just don’t want to come back!” Ashton angrily shot back
“I never said that,” He protested, “Some unexpected things popped up and…”
“SOME BROTHER YOU ARE!” He screamed before leaving the videophone. Blaze’s mom then came on shocked by what just transpired, she tried to console Blaze who was already feeling bad about having to tell Ashton about this.
“You know it’s going to be his 10th birthday later this week and he wanted you to be there…”
“I know mom,” Blaze sighed, “But Team Aqua and Team Magma’s appearance in Kanto worries me and with what just happened here that this incident could lead into a turf war.”
“You can’t be responsible for them Benjamin,” She replied, “But we knew you had a sense of responsibility and justice that made you the trainer you are today. And the trainer your brother wants to be like. I’ll have him understand, will that make you feel better?”
“Immeasurably,” Blaze replied, “I’ll call you as soon as I get to Cerulean.”
“Alright,” his mother nodded, “Good luck Blaze. Good-Bye and we’ll take good care of Shakes and Ironhide.”
The screen went blank, Blaze sighed again he hated breaking promises but sometimes you have to do what is needed of you. Lee saw the entire thing and looked at Blaze.
“A broken promise eh?” Lee said smirking, “Care to tell me what that was about? I have plenty of time. Nurse Joy said it’ll take a couple hours for the Scyther to recover complete.”
“I’ll tell when on the way to Viridian Gym.” Blaze told him.
Nearing Viridian Gym by that time Blaze explained to Lee what just happened.
“So your brother Ashton wants to be a trainer just like you?” Lee chuckled, “If I we him I would’ve chosen a better role model.”
The earned him a punch in the arm, with Ben hissing, “Smart Aleck.”
“Ow,” He winced, “Well I was just joking, but why was he so mad at you. Your mom or dad could’ve easily taken him to Littleroot.”
“I know you were,” Blaze replied half-smiling, “You just deserved that. Ashton was planning this trip for months. He already knew what he was packing when I was last on the ranch. And that was a month ago.”
“It always happens to kids when their plans are changed,” Lee told him putting a hand on Blaze’s shoulder, “He’s just angry because things are not going to plan. He won’t stay mad forever, maybe when you can get back you can check his progress and be there for his first gym battle."
Hope now seemed to glimmer in Blazes eyes, “Yeah, it took us the better part of two weeks to make it to Rustboro. So if he’s still not angry at me by then I’ll be there when he battles Roxanne.”
Smiling back at Lee he asked, “Where would I be without you Lee?”
“In a pretty big pickle,” Lee smirked back the two of them reaching the Gym and stopped in front of it, “I think you wanted to stop here?”
The two walked into the lobby where one of the assistant trainers was at the receptionist desk. Blaze looked over and the trainer asked, “Can I help you sir? Are you here to challenge the Gym Leader?”
“No,” Blaze replied, “I come with a package from the Gym Leader’s grandfather.”
“Well wonders never cease,” A voice said entering the lobby from the Gym Entrance. Blaze and Lee looked up to see it was Gary Oak the Gym Leader, “Allow me to introduce myself I’m Gary Oak of Pallet Town and Gym Leader of Viridian.”
Blaze took out the custom pokeball and offered it to Gary, “I think this is yours.”
Gary took it and still gave a half-cocked smile at the two, “Never would I have thought that two Pokemon Champions would come to my doorstep. Benjamin “Blaze” St. Helens of Lavaridge, Hoenn: two-time Lorenn League champion, 4th placed Orange Islands League and Top 10 in the Hoenn League.”
Gary then looked at Lee, “Lee Atone, Hoenn League Champion and Top 10 in the Lorenn League. By any chance either of you two would be interested in challenging me?”
“I retired from Pokemon Training moths ago,” Lee replied, “So thanks but no thanks!”
Gary then shrugged at Lee uttering a “Suit yourself.” He then walked up to Blaze and looked but, “But you Blaze, surely a famous trainer like yourself can challenge me.”
Blaze paused for a moment, “I, Blaze St. Helens challenge you to a Pokemon Battle. 3-on-3 sound good to you?”
Gary backed off, “Okay, your terms are fine with me. I’ll be ready in five minutes so don’t run off.”
Thus Gary left leaving Lee in disbelief, he whispered to Blaze, “Seriously you’re not going to battle him.”
“Why not?” Ben asked, “I’m a pokemon trainer and as long as my pokemon are willing; I’ll show the gym leaders of Kanto how we in Hoenn battle.”

Chapter Four: Beatdown at Viridian Gym
Blaze and Lee after a few minutes of talking strategy walked into the a platform which rose to half-way to the ceiling resting at about 25 feet. The battle field was a simple one a plain slate-floored rectangle with boulders carefully positioned and surrounded by a moat should aquatic pokemon be used.
From a box on the left side of the gym the referee sat down and tapped the microphone to see if it were working.
“Ahem!” He coughed, “Trainer Blaze St. Helens with a Blaziken, Flygon and Raichu challenges Gym Leader Gary with his Blastoise, Scizor and Nidoqueen. 3 on 3 battle. Start!”
“Don’t expect mercy,” Gary taunted throwing his pokeball, “Go! Blastoise!”
“Heh, you be begging me for mercy!” Blaze shot back throwing his pokeball at the field, “Sizzle, show him what we’re made of!”
“A Blaziken eh? You’re at a major disadvantage. Blastoise Hydro Pump!” Gary ordered.
“Blast!” the Blastoise unsheathing the cannons from it’s back.
“Sizzle! Double Team!”
“Blaaiz…” Sizzle hissed, the Blastoise quickly found itself surrounded by five Blazikens shooting a Hydro Pump at the various Blazikens in Vain.
“Now,” Blaze yelled, “Sky Uppercut!”
Sizzle dash towards Blastoise and gave it his “Sunday Special”, unfazed by the uppercut Blastoise used its Skull Bash to slam Sizzle into a boulder.
“Rapid Spin attack,” Gary ordered again pointing at the stunned Blaziken.
“Blast… toise!” it roared triumphantly withdrawing into its shell spinning and hurdling into Sizzle. The Blaziken dodged it; barely. The boulder pulverized to dust, stunned but not fainted Blastoise stumbled around in a confused state now if ever was a excellent chance to attack. Blaze saw this and looked to Sizzle.
“Good!” He said complimenting Sizzle’s remarkable intuition, “Quick Attack!”
Quickly Sizzle made numerous speed tackles at the Blastoise, however it’s shell negated any attack and it was starting to get annoyed and Sizzle was quickly tiring. “Let’s finished this! Blastoise! Hydro Pump!”
Again the shellfish pokemon let loose its torrent of water, this time connecting with Sizzle knocking him near the field’s edge.
“Blaziken has faint…” The ref announced before noticing Sizzle shakily getting up, “My lord…”
The only think running in the Blaziken’s mind was his trainer, how he just couldn’t let Blaze down. It was that loyalty that gave him determination, enough to get back up and fight again. Gary was shocked.
“That should’ve finished him off!” He cried, “No way a Blaziken can be that strong against my Blastoise’s Hydro Pump!”
“He has heart Gary,” Blaze replied, “And a Pokemon’s strength is measured by it’s heart, not its power. Sizzle?”
Sizzle looked up to Blaze, “Ken?”
“Blazzzzzze!” (Translation: “I will not let you down!”)
“Quick Blastoise!” Gary snapped, “Hydro Pump Attack!”
Sizzle started to run at Blastoise who fired one Hydro Pump after another only to be dodged by the highly disciplined Sizzle. Glowing brighter and brighter Sizzle unleashed his ultimate attack “Overheat”, taught by Flannery herself. If Sizzle pulled this off it could roast the Blastoise, if not he would be drained and the battle lost.
Once close enough to Blastoise he unleashed a firestorm that consumed them both and half the battle field. This was the deciding moment, as the residual smoke from the combustion cleared Sizzle was down on one knee panting heavily…
…But what about Blastoise?
When it was all clear Lee and Gary were shocked to find scorch-marks all over Blastoise’s body. Sizzle had won.
“YES!” Blaze cheered pulling out his Pokeball recalling Blaziken, “You deserve a nice rest Sizzle. You did an awesome job out there you made me proud.”
“Whoa!” Lee said in disbelief, “He actually beat a Blastoise! How’d he do it.”
“Simple.” Blaze chuckled, “He’s Sizzle by strongest and most loyal fighter.”
Gary withdrew Blastoise, “You did your best, no denying it. He is better than I anticipated.”
Raising another pokeball he turned to Blaze and asked, “Are you ready for round two?”
Pulling out his second Pokeball, Blaze replied with a smirk, “Ready when you are.”
“Concorde! Go!” He yelled releasing his Flygon who was hovering about five feet above the battle field Buzzing. Gary threw his pokemon releasing Scizor the scissors pokemon; extremely popular due to its high speed and attack ratings and its part-steel type left it resistant to several other types.
“Zor!” It yelled, graceful cutting the air boasting it’s own abilities.
“Metal Claw!” Gary ordered.
The silvery-white glow covered its claw making several close swipes at Concorde, backing him into a boulder.
“Go up,” Blaze screamed knowing where Concorde would have to go. “Fly!”
Concorde flew up as Scizor readied it’s Metal Claw, hammering it into the rock; the Flygon had already left and the claw hit the rock fracturing it. Scizor’s claw was stuck and it struggled to pull it out but to no avail.
“It’s stuck now’s our chance!” Blaze said, “Flamethrower!”
“Guah!” Concorde roared unleashing a blast of flame from its mouth at Scizor, even as the attack finished the Scizor still stood and the flames also softened the rocks allowing Scizor to free itself and leer at the airborne Concorde creating a tense atmosphere even making Blaze and Lee uncomfortable. But Gary was just fine ordering Scizor’s next move. “Agility!”
Scizor started to move at a more frenzied pace, Blaze was wondering what Gary was up to. Scizor was too heavy to fly and couldn’t reach Concorde. So he ordered a barrage of Flamethrowers with each one fired the Scizor dodged. That’s when the Scizor revealed its plan, using the momentum from the Agility it leapt and wall-kicked Blaze’s platform, heading straight for Concorde.
“False Swipe!” Gary yelled, “Execute Tactic Beta-2-Gamma.”
“Zor,” It his swiping Concorde forcing the Flygon to fall to the ground.
Concorde wasn’t harmed much by the fall and managed to get up without much difficulty, Scizor landed with a soft clank kneeling with its claws stretched from left to right. Glaring at Concorde it pointed it claws at him and they opened. Yellow spheres appeared, collecting energy for not one but two Hyper Beams. The twin sphere fired with such awesome force; The recoil sent Scizor dragging backwards sending dust in all directions. Concorde was sent hurdling; the impact robbing him of the last of his energy.
Blaze recalled Concorde giving him what little comfort he could offer, “I shouldn’t have been so cocky. I’m sorry Concorde.”
“Maybe you depended too much on his Flamethrower attack.” Lee noted, “Maybe you should consider this strategy with Deluge…”
Lee whispered into Blaze’s ear, Blaze nodded and smirking at Gary who was starting to grow impatient, “Are you going to just talk or are you going to battle?” he called out.
Blaze leaned towards him replying, “Prepare for a force you never seen before. Go Deluge!”
The red energy burst out of the opened pokeball forming Deluge, “Raiiiii!”
“A raichu?” Gary winced, “That’s your ultimate force?”
“You have no idea,” Blaze laughed, “Deluge! Agility!”
“Scizor! Metal Claw!” Gary ordered again, this time confident Scizor could defeat Deluge. After all Scizor was given a great deal of speed training.
But Deluge was too fast, every attacked dodged; it was apparent Deluge was running circles around Scizor confounding him.
“Double Team!” Blaze yelled at the dark-yellow streak, over the entire field almost two dozen images appeared confusing Scizor, “I trained Deluge personally Gary and he’s too fast for you!”
“Oh yeah? Scizor! Slash!”
Scizor slashed at every copy of Deluge barely noticing it was raining. In the gym? This was turning out to be a very confusing battle for both of them. Suddenly it donned on Gary; this was Rain Dance and it insures the attack “Thunder” would always strike.
“Rai!” Deluge cried out leaping for Scizor charging up the blast, “Chuuuuuuuu!”
The blast of electricity proved to be too much for Scizor to take, “Sceee…” it cried spazing out of control. When it was all finished Scizor fainted like Blastoise scorch marks covered its once-shiny body.
“It always comes to one on one doesn’t it?” Gary said to himself recalling Scizor and carefully cradling his last pokeball in his hand throwing he yelled. “You’re my last hope… Nidoqueen!”
Nidoqueen’s arrival on the battlefield grand as she landed right in front of Deluge her figure towering over his. She bellowed “Queeeen…” Only one thing was certain in Blaze and Deluge’s eyes; knowing that they had one ace in hole for a situation like this.

Chapter 4 Continued
“It’s over,” Gary boasted, “Raichu is still an electric type and Nidoqueen here is a ground-type.”
“You’ll see that I know what I’m doing Gary,” Blaze told him, “Deluge, Headbutt attack.”
Making a run at Nidoqueen; Deluge shouted “Rai!” the Headbutt had little affect on Nidoqueen however there was that notion that bugged Gary, that Blaze was hiding something from him. But that feeling was quelling by the swelling of his ego. “Nidoqueen, Seismic Toss!” he yelled.
“Queen!” she roar grabbing Deluge, then she started spinning and hurled Deluge to the other side of the field. Scratched and bruised the raichu got up waiting. “You know what to do Deluge.” Blaze told him.
“Rai,” Deluge agreed; a pale blue aura then surrounded him. The water around the area started to churn. Gary’s ego suddenly retracted.
“Oh no,” he thought, “Not Surf…”
“Rai!” Deluge cried as a tidal wave formed; bolstered by the lingering effect of Rain Dance it cascaded onto the playing field curving around him but overtaking Nidoqueen. Deluge leapt from one boulder “island” to the next coming across Nidoqueen who was clinging to a boulder.
“Iron Tail!” Blaze ordered
The silvery white glow covered Deluge’s tail as he swung it at Nidoqueen’s head; it connected. Nidoqueen barely conscious released her grip and the torrent took her to the edge of the field where she finally fainted.
“Unbelievable!” bawled the referee, “Blaze’s Raichu has defeated Nidoqueen! Blaze wins!”
To Blaze it was the perfect conclusion to a furious battle. Lee couldn’t help but feel impressed at the effort of Blaze’s pokemon and Blaze’s confident command.
“Congrats Blaze,” Lee said, “After seeing that I wonder why you only got 3rd in the Hoenn League.”
Blaze’s expression turned grim for a second, “That’s another story for another day.”
After everything cleared up Gary, Blaze and Lee met on the battlefield. Holding the Earth Badge in his right hand.
“As per Indigo League rules you Blaze St. Helens have earned the Earth Badge.” He announced placing the badge in the palm of Blaze’s left hand, “Now I see why you got far in those championships.”
They shook hands and Blaze smiled, “You weren’t bad yourself.”
Lee and the Referee clapped, but one questioned still remained so Lee asked, “Why did you want to challenge Blaze and I?”
“You really want to know?” Gary asked, and in a heartbeat Blaze and Lee nodded. So Gary said, “Two trainers named Erik and Gary already battled me and warned me about you Blaze. When grandpa told me you were coming so I thought it would be interesting if what they said were true. Looks like they weren’t lying after all.”
“I see,” Lee nodded, “Well Gary. Good luck with the gym and your new pokemon.”
“Thanks,” Gary smiled, “And you two stay out of trouble.”
The sun was already starting to show signs of setting when Blaze and Lee were leaving the pokecenter. Blaze cracked his neck while Lee was still in deep thought.
“I guess we both won something today,” Blaze yawned, “You have a new pokemon and friend. I have a shiny new badge to add to my repertoire.”
Lee blinked out of his thought, “Hmm? I suppose.”
“Something wrong?” Blaze asked.
“Nothing really,” Lee replied, “It’s just that our friends Erik Wyvren and Gary Frost are in Kanto?”
“I’m surprised as you are Lee,” Blaze told him, “Maybe I can meet up with them, can you sense them?”
“Maybe if I can focus my psychic powers,” Lee said, “I can retrace their steps to find where they are and where they’re going. Whatever you do don’t interrupt me Blaze.”
“I wouldn’t think of it.” He snorted.
Lee snickered then closed his eyes, purging all the distractions. Feeling their psychic afterimages he traced Erik and Gary’s path into Viridian, their visit to Viridian gym and back to the pokecenter. Fast-forwarding he saw their path to Pewter City and where they were; in the shadow of Mount Moon on the way to Cerulean City. Lee’s eyes opened and he said, “They’re headed for Cerulean”
“Well,” Blaze replied, “What am I waiting for?”
He pulled a pokeball of his vest and threw it, releasing Concorde. “If I fly now, we can make it before nightfall…”
“Wait!” Lee shouted, “You’re not going alone are you?”
“It’s always best if you travel with friends Blaze.” Lee smirked pulling a pokeball from his belt to release Sky Dive.
“Eeeeeeeeeee…” Sky Dive hissed
Blaze’s eyes sparkled as he mounted Concorde, “Well what are we waiting for then?”
With that Concorde and Sky Dive with their respective trainers flew for Cerulean City to rendezvous with their old friends.

Chapter 5: Out of the Blue
Blaze and Lee made it to Cerulean City by about nightfall and with the cash Blaze was rolling in from when he defeated Gary Oak; the two managed to get a room at one of the city’s finer hotels. The next morning the two walked out onto the street; Blaze letting out a gapping yawn.
“Couldn’t we have just slept in,” He whined, “Check out time is only 11:00 AM not 6:00 AM.”
“Stop complaining,” Lee told him. Sternly, “Besides I would place bets that our two top trainers will be entering Cerulean any minute now.”
“You know where they’re headed?” Blaze asked cracking his neck and knuckles.
“Not even a psychic like me has to guess,” Lee smiled pulling out his pokenav, “The Cerulean City Gym, Current Leader: Misty, Favored Type: Water.”
“Sounds like my type,” Blaze turned towards the opposite direction, “Listen I saw a computer shop while I was out last night. I want to see if I can get it upgraded so it could support a videophone feature. You go to the gym now and I’ll catch up later.”
Lee nodded, “You have your pokenav upgraded for Kanto right?”
“Please…” Blaze snorted, “Give me some credit.”
The two had a short chuckle before they parted ways, Lee pulled out Sky Dive and the two headed for the Cerulean Gym.
Even at this hour of the morning, a battle rages on in Cerulean Gym. In the pool where the pokemon battle a lone Relicanth darts from behind the pillar. Being a couple centuries old it wasn’t as fast as it used to but it needed so it could formulate a plan to tackle the Gyarados chasing it.
“Aeon!” Its trainer yelled, “Ancient Power attack!”
The Relicanth stopped then fired a bolt of mystical energy at the Gyarados which coiled back from the attack. Aeon was glowing, brimming with mystical energy almost giving it some newfound strength.
“Double Edge!” The trainer ordered.
Like a runaway torpedo Aeon bee-lined towards Gyarados slamming it head on. It’s rocky head protecting it Aeon quickly circled around for another attack.
“Gyarados!” The gym leader; Misty ordered, “Hyper Beam attack!”
Gyarados shot a yellow beam at Aeon; but the attack was evaded and Aeon struck on the upswing: knocking out the Gyarados and winning the Gym Battle for the trainer.
From the side of the pool another trainer cheered, “Yes! That was awesome Erik!”
“Ah, it was nothing,” Erik said, “Gyarados is part-flying type and ‘Ancient Power’ is a rock-type attack. Good job Aeon!”
Misty and Erik withdrew their pokemon; Erik moved off the platform as his companion walked on.
“I am Gary Frost of Sootopolis City, Hoenn like my colleague Erik.” Gary smirked as he grabbed a pokeball from his belt, “Normally I fancy myself of a trainer of ice-types but for this occasion…”
He threw the pokeball and the burst of red energy reformed as a Pikachu. “Say hello to Volt.” He joked
“A Pikachu eh?” Misty asked, then commented towards Volt, “Not that terrible a surprise. But you see what my next pokemon is made of. Go Starmie!”
“Hyah!” the Starmie roared, diving into the pool.
Volt scurried across the platform he was on, it was troubling since the Pikachu didn’t know how to swim. Starmie circled around and leapt from the pool.
“Starmie! Bubble Beam!” Misty ordered
Bubbles shot out of its core, pummeling Volt with bubbles; slowing it down. Gary growled, “Volt use Thunder attack!”
“Pi Pikachu!” Volt snarled firing a large bolt of lightning at Starmie hitting it dead on. Nearly fainted Starmie fell back into the pool where Misty told it to use Recover.
In the heat of this battle Lee was entering the spectator gallery, sitting down he intently watched the battle between Gary and Misty.
Now Gary was starting to lose patience, when Starmie swung around again to strike with its Tackle, he ordered “Double Team” and rather than hitting Volt; Starmie hit the after image. Volt used its “Headbutt” knocking Starmie on the platform. “Now Volt while it’s still on dry land! Thunder!”
This time the Starmie was fainted by the lightning bolt’s overwhelming power going limp. Misty nodded, “I was expecting this but despite its handicap your Pikachu fought well Gary. You and Erik are truly deserving of this.”
From her pocket pulled out two Cascade Badges; she walked off the platform (as did Gary) and handed them to the two trainers. In the distance they heard a clapping sound echo.
“Bravo, bravo,” Lee yelled despite his distaste for watching combat.
Erik pulled down his glasses and rubbed his eyes wile Gary’s just widened. Misty however remained nonchalant, “Are you here to battle?” She called out.
Lee leapt into the arena shaking hiking his head. “No, I’m not.”
“Then you’re much too early for the show.” Misty replied.
“Nah,” Lee sighed, “I heard these two were in town and I thought they’d be here.”
Erik and Gary ran up to Lee greeting him and they shook hands and laughed, “Long time no see,” Erik said placing a hand on his shoulder, “What brings you here to Kanto?”
“I was just exploring until met up with Blaze near Virid…” Lee replied before being cut off by Gary’s gasp.
“Blaze is here?!”
“Where?” Erik asked
“He’s at a computer shop getting an upgrade,” Lee explained, “We said we’d meet up here when he’s finished. You don’t mind if we wait here do you Misty.”
She shrugged, “It’s all the same to me, if you now excuse me I have to be feeding the Pokemon here.”
“Oh no you’re not.” A voice told her, “Team Magma won’t allow it.”
“Oh no,” Lee sighed, “Not them again.”
Jason emerged from the closest corridor with a handful of grunts and from every opening the arena was flooding with Team Magma grunts. Then her noticed Lee whom he remembered from the incident in Viridian City.
“Ah, I remember you from Viridian City,” Jason said walking up to Lee as he had his men surround the four, “Interesting I should meet you here when we plan to destroy this gym.”
“What? You can’t do that.” Misty protested.
“Quiet!” Jason hissed, “Having a Water-type Gym on land is an abomination it Team Magma’s eyes and we’ll correct that. Tie them up. They’ll be destroyed with the gym.”
The circle closed in on the four, “You’ll never get away with this!” Lee told him knowing very well that Blaze would be coming any minute. For his trouble he was knocked down and gagged along with Gary, Erik and Misty.
“Oh how cliché my friend,” Jason snickered walking away from their hearing range, then whispering into a grunt’s ear, “Tell our ‘allies’ they can come in and ‘liberate’ the pokemon here.”
At the computer shop, the salesman present was finishing his pitch to Blaze. Initially Blaze only wanted a videophone upgrade for his laptop but, this new “Pokemon Transfer” program and hardware was grabbing his attention. From the pokeball-sized pad a real pokeball was starting to materialize.
“…and like so,” The salesman explained, “You can transfer your pokemon without having to go to a pokecenter.”
Blaze took the pokeball and placed on the empty clip of his vest, “I think I’ll take that as well. How much will that cost me?”
“Along with the videophone upgrade; it should cost only 750 dollars.” The sales man replied leading Blaze to the counter.
Blaze whistled as he pulled out his wallet and debit card, “That’s a bit steep but I guess I can manage it.”
“You don’t need to pay now,” The Salesman told him, “Just leave your computer with us and in a couple hours the upgrade should be finished. In the meantime you can see the city. Need a couple tourist tips?”
Shaking his head as he pulled out his laptop from the backpack, “I have to meet my friend at the Gym so thanks but no thanks.” He placed it on the counter and the salesman took it into the technician’s room in the back where the technician got to work on it right away. Blaze left the store, stopping to breathe for a moment he pulled out a pokeball, releasing Concorde.
“You know the way to Cerulean Gym?” he asked
Concorde nodded and buzzed, “Gu-ah!” Then it hung it’s head in shame. Blaze tried you comfort it as he mounted, “Don’t worry about yesterday, you won several battles for me and one loss doesn’t change our friendship.”
“Besides,” Blaze smirked, “Well show the next gym leader what you’re made of.”
Concorde looked back at Blaze it’s eyes sparkling, he was glad to have him as a trainer and to help him in any way possible. So the mystic pokemon took off ferrying it’s trainer to Cerulean Gym. Approaching the airspace above the gym Concorde saw something, focusing it’s vision on two guards at the gym’s main entrance.
“Okay,” Blaze told him, “You can drop us off here…”
Concorde shook his head, “Gon!”
Concorde tilted his head, “Gu-ah!”
Concorde nodded. Blaze thought for a moment, “Land us where we can get some cover.” The Flygon nodded and descended into a grove of trees about a block away from the gym. On closer approach the two hid in the bushes, Blaze looking at the front with his spyglass watching the two Team Magma guards.
“So that’s what you saw,” Blaze whispered with Concorde nodding, “Looks like there are only two of them around the outside. So the rest must be in the Gym itself. However we need to drive them off.”
Blaze pulled off the pokeball he had transferred to the computer shop, “We’ll need a professional for this job.”

Chapter 5 Continued
“Joe, why do we always get watch duty?” The TM Guard complained, “Barely anything interesting happens.”
“Maybe it would have to do with the fact that you botch up every mission Jason gives us.” His partner snapped back.
Offended the guard snarled, “And like you’re free of any…Whoa!”
The two were interrupted by the arrival of a Scizor with a scar on its forehead the two looked at it for a second. Then at each other, sporting a smile and a pokeball in their hands.
“You think that’s a wild one Joe?”
“You see a trainer doofus?” Joe asked throwing his pokeball, “Pokeball go!”
The Scizor smacked the pokeballs aside with its claws, stalking closer to the two defenseless grunts. They both seemed to whimper as it stood between them showing off its razor sharp claws. The Scizor with amazing speed and precision make graceful slashes at them reducing their uniforms to shredded piles of cloth. The two shrieked and ran into the nearest bushes. Blaze ran up (With Concorde hovering above him) to the Scizor and gave it a thumbs up.
“Nice work Reap…” Blaze complimented, “I see working in my uncle’s shop improved your aim.”
Reaper smirked and nodded, “Zor!”
And the three walked into the gym unchallenged. The two guard watched and cursed the trainer they both knew of and loathed.
“We gotta tell Jason about this,” Joe said, “But our communicator was shredded with our uniforms…”
“And I ain’t going in there with only my undies and hood on.”
“Me neither, Jonno, me neither.”
Looking around in the foyer of the gym the three found it to be empty until they heard voices from downstairs in the aquarium.
“Hey can you help me open this tank?” a voice echoed.
To avoid detection Blaze recalled Concorde and Reaper then tiptoed down the staircase and peeked his head around the corner to be shocked at what he saw.
Team Aqua was in the aquarium stealing the water pokemon inside and depositing the pokeballs into a crate. Rich was overseeing the operation as a grunt gave him a report.
“We’ve liberated 60% of the water pokemon in the Aquarium sir.”
“Excellent,” Rich chuckled, “We should be done emptying the tanks within the hour. Call Jason and tell him he can start laying the explosives.”
“If I may ask sir,” The grunt continued, “What are we going to do with the Pokemon we catch?"”
“Simple,” Rich explained, “Give them to Archie if we’re good maybe we’ll get a share. Now go tell Jason that now’s the time to do his job.”
“Sir,” the grunt saluted then walked off.
“Weird, Team Aqua and Team Magma working together. In all my years of training I never thought I would see them in an alliance.” Blaze thought silently, “I should’ve picked this up when we were in Viridian. Well it looks like it’s up to me to save the day.”
He unclipped a pokeball, enlarged it, then rolled it on the floor. A random grunt noticed it, “Looks like one dropped out of the crate.” He said as he bent down to pick it up.
The ball abruptly opened and unleashed Sizzle, the grunt looked up and the expression on his face read one thing: “Oh cripes.” Sizzle gave the grunt a good kick, sending him skidding on the floor. The other grunts and Rich looked at him menacingly with their hands reaching for their pokeballs.
Blaze then rolled in with two enlarged pokeballs in each hand.
“Hello ladies,” he joked, “Miss me?”
Sizzle sent a flamethrower attack heading for Team Aqua splitting the group. From the two pokeballs Deluge and Reaper popped out, Reaper using his attack power to slash some grunts and Deluge firing a shockwave giving much of the team a good shock. The responded by throwing their pokeballs releasing their pokemon mostly Mightyenas and Carvahna .
“Destroy him now!” Rich wailed, “You picked your last battle Blaze!”
“Oh really Richie?” Blaze taunted, he and his pokemon somewhat arrogantly looking at Team Aqua’s pokemon even though they were outnumbered, “I’ve should’ve picked a fight with someone other than your sorry group of losers.”
“Oh that burns it,” Rich growled, “ATTACK!”
The front line of pokemon charged at Blaze’s group Reaper manage to keep the Mightyena at bay with its Hyper Cutter attack as did Sizzle with its Fighting-type moves. Deluge managed Carvahna with its Thunderbolts but it was evident this was a losing battle thus he took the last of his pokeballs and released Concorde, Deep End and Umbreon to assist the besieged trio. Amidst the chaos a lone poke opened and a Psyduck appeared, ignored by the battling Team Aqua it ran up the stairs into the arena. To find help for its mysterious hero.
Meanwhile the quartet of hostages sighed in resignation, but Jason was having a lively (to say the least) “conversation” with said Team Aqua grunt.
“Blaze is here?!” Jason cried, “Do you need assistance? … No? …Then we’ll continue as planned then. … Roger that.”
“Blaze is here?” Erik whispered as he and Gary were not gagged like Misty and Lee.
“That’s what the bozo said,” Gary replied, “Shouldn’t we do something to help him.”
“Normally I would say yes…” Erik said sarcastically, “But we’re still tied up and helpless.”
Psyduck reached the top of the stairs and ran towards Misty, nearly tripping when he was halfway there.
“Psy psy psy duck psy!” It frantically cried making rapid gestures and annoying Misty to no end. Her temper quickly growing shorter, she was starting to scream through her gag. Still panicked Psyduck didn’t slow down. Not until Erik butted in.
“Slow down there,” He told it, “What is wrong?”
“Psy!” It blurted out before holding its head.
“What it say?” Gary asked
“I don’t know,” Erik said, “I’m guessing something’s happening in the Aquarium right now. Hey Psyduck, can you please try to free us, then we can help you. Use your Fury Swipes maybe?”
Psyduck nodded, “Psy!” then walked up to Erik’s bonds and slashed at them with Fury Swipe freeing his hands which he then used to untie his legs and the other’s bonds while Team Magma was busy laying the explosives.
Erik was quick to take charge as he pointed to Gary, “You go help Blaze in the Aquarium, Lee and I will take on…”
“What about me?” Misty protested, “This is my gym, I should be able to fight for it.”
“I meant no offense,” Erik sheepishly replied, “But your Gyarados and Starmie…”
Gary and Lee got a good chuckle from Misty’s outburst and Erik’s response.
“I have more Pokemon where they came from,” Misty winked, “Let’s do it.”
Trying to somewhat compensate for his bruised confidence Erik told the other two, “You heard the lady…”
“I’m not that old!” Misty screamed.
“Sorry,” Erik whimpered
The group split, by now the Team Magma grunts and Jason realized their prisoners were freed.
“Someone freed the prisoners!” One grunted yelled.
“With your powers of observation,” Jason mockingly snarled, “It’s a wonder why you haven’t been promoted to Administrator.”
“Really? Why didn’t I get the promotion?”
Jason quietly groaned to himself, “Where do we get these guys from?” he then roared, “Destroy them all!”
The groups released their pokemon consisting Mightyenas and various Fire-types like Magcargo and Numel.
“Did they already forget?” Misty snickered, “This is a water pokemon gym.”
“They aren’t exactly Nobel prize winners Misty,” Lee remarked
Misty took three pokeballs threw them over the pool, “Go Staryu! Corsola! Dewgong! Use your water gun attack ”
The trio of pokemon fired jets of water at Jason’s and his cluster of grunts and their Pokemon. Next up was Erik who spearheaded his attack with, “Go Sectaur!” The Vibrava hovered over another group and the fluttering of its wings kicked up some dust blinding the group enabling him to move to the next phase. “Go Draco!”
A Kingdra landed in the pool and surfaced close to the unseeing Team Magma grunts. “Now!” Erik ordered it, “Use Dragon Rage!” Whitish blue flames erupted from the water swirling around it. Unleashing its fury the attack blew a whole through the wall send the grunt flying into parts unknown.
Gary meanwhile was racing down the stairs running headlong into the melee, he didn’t bother asking why Team Aqua was here all he knew was that they had to be repelled from this place. Focused primarily at Blaze the Team Aqua grunts ignored Gary. Thus to get their attention he shouted, “Why battle that ‘loser’ when you can battle a real trainer like me?”
That got a couple grunts attention as well as Rich’s.
“Who’s that guy?” One grunted asked the one beside him.
“I dunno.” The other one said.
“I don’t care who he is,” Rich told them, “Just rush him!”
The two grunts released their Mightyenas, ordering in unison. “Tackle attack!”
From behind Gary a Mr. Mime jumped out into front the charging Mightyena, with its intricate hand movements it formed a transparent yellow barrier. As expected the two Bite pokemon rammed into the barrier and effectively fainted themselves. Gary pulled out Volt, Glalie and his Gengar (named Scar Face).
“Mess with the best,” Gary taunted, “…and get buried with the rest.”
“Destroy him as well,” Rich growled lowly.
Blaze completed a high kick to a grunt’s jaw thankful that these mooks know little of hand to hand combat. Plowing through their ranks he joked.
“Loser?” He snickered, “I’ll make you eat those words.”
“Bring it on ‘Big Ben’” Gary retorted jokingly.

Chapter 5 Continued
In the pool the combated was heated between Team Magma and the three… make that two since the battle had begun Lee hadn’t called out any of his pokemon. Erik had noticed that and leered at Lee.
“Lee!” He called to him, “I know you’re against fighting and all that. But can you help us on the ground?”
“My Muk and Manectric are vulnerable to the Numel and my Skarmory can be taken out with their fire attacks.” Lee explained, “I don’t want them to hurt my Pokemon.”
“If we don’t do something we’re going to be poached,” Erik barked, “It would help us if you’d actually help us.”
“Alright,” Lee sighed, taking out the pokeball containing his Scyther, “Maybe I can help with the Mightyena problem. Go Ginsu!”
The Scyther flew out of its ball and headed for the Mightyenas, “Quickly!” Lee told it, “Use your Swords Dance with Hyper Cutter!”
“Scyther!” it screamed, spinning and slashing up the pack. The four them circled it waiting for an opportunity to strike. Ginsu too was waiting; when the first of the pack leapt Ginsu replied with a Hyper Cutter to the face. Another tried to attack, again it was rewarded with a Hyper Cutter.
Now the tide of the battle was turning as Team Magma was being pushed into a corner.
“I do have to say I’m impressed,” Misty remarked at Erik, “Especially how you handled Psyduck. For once he actually did something right.”
“All in a days work,” Erik replied, “Let’s finish this shall we?”
Misty nodded, “Let’s. Water Gun attack.”
“You too Draco!” Erik added pointing to the cornered Team Magma.
The torrents of water drenched the last of the Numel and Magcargo and Ginsu was finishing off the rest of the Mightyena. Jason cursed.
“Damn you Wyrven,” He snarled, “Damn you and your interfering friends.”
“Face it, it’s over.” Erik told them, “You’re going to prison all of you.”
Revealing the detonator in his hand Jason smirked triumphantly, “I still hold the ace, while you were battling my minions you failed to notice I wired up the explosives. If I have to go down I’m taking you all with me.”
Slowly he pressed the button on the detonator.
Nothing happened, he clicked again, again and again but nothing happened.
“The detonator,” he snarled, “Why won’t it work?!”
“um… sir…” His toady whispered pointing to Ginsu who was showing off his blades along with a pile of now-inert explosives.
Jason screamed in a disappointed rage. His voice echoed throughout the gym and the outside causing passers-by to stop and shake their heads.
Among those that heard it were Team Aqua downstairs. Though they couldn’t afford to hesitate and kept on battling but Rich remarked, “Looks like Jason’s plan’s gone bust…”
Deluge and Volt tag teamed on a swarm of Carvahna blasting it with twin Thunderbolts shocking the holy heck out of them. Their owners recalled him and Blaze, Gary and their combined pokemon surrounded the now-defenseless Team Aqua.
“Now…” Rich joked, “Would be a good time to escape.”
“Give it up Charlie,” Gary told him in his worst “cop show” voice, “We got ya’ surrounded.”
“Ah ah ah,” Rich told him, “I still have one contingency plan. You see my watch? On it is a button that activates a teleporting device on me and my minion’s belts. Farewell Blaze… we’ll meet again I promise you that.”
Pressing the button; Rich and Team Aqua teleported from the gym in a flash of white light temporarily blinding the two.
“Erk!” Blaze squawked then trying to reorient himself, “Damn it! The cowards left.”
In his frustration he kicked Psyduck’s empty pokeball it rolled to a tank beside Gary, who bent down and picked it up.
“Hey Blaze,” He said, “Is this yours?”
Blaze shook his head, “Nope.”
Gary then looked around and saw the crate. They both ran to it and found pokeballs inside; all presumably contained the gym’s pokemon.
“So this was all a cover for robbery,” Gary said but Blaze looked at him with a confused glance so he explained, “Team Magma was planning to blow the place up until Misty’s Psyduck saved us.”
Blaze paused for a moment before saying, “It can’t be Team Aqua and Team Magma working together. They’re mortal enemies it doesn’t make sense for them to do something like this.”
Then it came to Gary as he made a run for the stair, he turned to Blaze. “They’re fighting Team Magma in the arena, maybe we could get some answers from them.”
Blaze nodded, ordering Sizzle, Reaper and Concorde to take crate and follow him. Catching with up Gary, and the two made a break for the arena with their Pokemon following them.
Surrounded and with their pokemon exhausted Team Magma had clearly run out of options. As the two trainers and Misty neared them he hissed.
“You haven’t the last of me Wyrven, Atone.” He then pressed the button on his watch, “And be assured our next meeting will be your last with Team Magma!”
Team Magma disappeared in a flash of white light similar to Team Aqua. Erik shielded his eyes from the light, when he opened his arms he saw the empty space left. Angered beyond belief he screamed, “COWARDS!”
Lee and Misty (more or less) were at calm, Lee spoke in a softer tone when he quietly remarked, “We should’ve seen this coming, at least we kept the gym intact.”
Misty was about to dispute that but saw no point in voicing that, “Beats having a destroyed gym.”
“Or an empty gym,” A voice belonging to Gary echoed, “After saving Blaze’s butt I came across this startling discovery, Team Aqua was here to plunder the gym’s pokemon.”
Blaze growled, “That’s what you think.”
Sizzle, Concorde and Reaper laid down the crate. Misty ran to it to verify it holding a pokeball in her hand and hissed.
“Those creeps if I’d known…”
Erik and Lee raised their eyebrows. Lee added his opinion in, “This is very odd, Team Magma and Aqua in the same place but not fighting. Instead they’re working together like in Viridian City.”
Misty looked at the four trainers in confused expression, “Team Aqua and Magma? Working together? What are you guys talking about?”
“Well…” Gary said before being abruptly butted in by Erik how told him, “Allow me.”
Gary growled as Erik started to explain, “Well you see…”
Erik went through all the details about Team Aqua’s goal to expand the sea while Team Magma sought to expand the world’s landmasses. About how the two have been clawing at each other for years in Hoenn and the terror they sometimes spread to innocents. Misty was intently listening whispering to herself.
“I hope Ash doesn’t run into them…”
“Beg your pardon?” Erik asked
Misty blushed, “Nothing, at least you chased those creeps away.”
“You need any help?” Erik offered, “It’s the least we can do, besides we’d be happy too.”
That last remark earned a dirty look from Blaze and Gary, Misty saw that and replied, “No thanks, besides the only thing that needs to be done is return the pokemon Team Aqua tried to steal.”
Erik shrugged, “Suit yourself.”
The quartet started to leave the arena before being stopped by Misty hollering from her end, “But if any of you are in Cerulean City, I’ll be happy to give you a rematch.” She gave them a wink. Erik looked back and smiled, silently praying that he didn’t look like a dork. He would come back someday…
Once outside Blaze gave Gary and Erik a solid punch on the shoulder, “So it was you who saved me? Ha, I was doing fine.”
The two gave a chuckle, “I was just kidding Blaze,” Gary told him, “Nice to see you haven’t changed one bit.”
After a round of laughter the four started to walk, where to was anyone’s guess. “So where are you two headed?” Lee asked.
“The logical place to go next would be Vermilion City.” Erik replied, “You’re coming along?”
“Might as well,” Blaze said, “But I need to stop at the…”
From out of nowhere a pie splattered over Blaze’s face. For a moment Blaze stood there humiliated and growing angrier, wiping the crème off his face he saw the eyes of his attacker. Gary’s Mr. Mime, the prankster of a pokemon must’ve escaped from his ball and chose now as a time to publicly embarrass Blaze. His face growing red he roared at the laughing Mr. Mime.
“I’LL GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO LAUGH AT YOU LITTLE FREAK!”
“Mime!” The pokemon yelped as he fled with Blaze on his trail like an enraged Mightyena.
“Oh no,” Gary groaned breaking into a sprint chasing after Blaze, hoping to recall his pokemon before his friend could get to it.
Lee stood there and sighed, “Tsk, tsk, tsk. Those two will be the death of each other.”
Erik shook his head, “This is going to be one long trip.”
Chuckling Lee asked him, “Would you have it any other way?”
“MURDER, DEATH, KILL!” Blaze shrieked in the distance.
Laughing at Blaze and Mr. Mime’s crazy antics he replied, “I don’t think so.”
And with that the two ran after Gary and Blaze, as old times seemed to be returning.

Intermission 2: Declaration
One day after the Cerulean Gym Incident…
In the tallest of the shimmering towers of Celadon City stood Giovanni’s office where the secret Team Rocket Boss and publicly-known business works in his office with his Persian sleeping at the foot of the desk. He was interrupted from his routine by his secretary.
“Mr. Giovanni, your two o’ clock is here.”
Stopping his work he place his pen on the contracts he was signing, he reached for the speaker phone and told her, “Send them in Miss Thatch. And activate the sonic nullifiers.” The dim hum of the nullifiers now lingering in the background.
Butch and Cassidy walked in the office wearing civilian clothes, to avoid revealing the boss’s true nature. Giovanni greeted them. “Sorry it took too long for my lawyers to find a legal loophole for you to slip out of.”
Butch and Cassidy bowed, but as usual Cassidy was the one to speak, “Thank you Boss.”
He shrugged off their bowing and told them, “You’re two of my finest agents. It was nothing, when you contacted me on the video phone you said you had an urgent message.”
“Yes sir, you see we were going to rob the Pokemon Center in Viridian City,” Cassidy explained, “Then Team Aqua and Team Magma appeared, telling us to pass a message onto you.
“Stay out of Hoenn or suffer the consequences.” Butch continued, “When a pair of trainers arrived and the room went into chaos, we tried to escape…”
“…That’s inconsequential” Giovanni snarled, sitting down. Rubbing his temple as veins flared on his forehead. He was obviously angry; Butch and Cassidy knew first hand what happens to those who make the boss angry. Like a predator or much rather pack leader Giovanni despised those that dared infringe on his territory.
His snarls turned lower, “…and they have the nerve to enter my territory. I’ll destroy them all.”
“Sir?” Cassidy asked
Giovanni looked at her, “I’ll have to deal with this threat personally. I’ll have my connections across Kanto, Johto and Hoenn notify me of their movements and have Domino organize a task force to combat them.”
“What about us sir?”
He pulled out two envelopes and faced them on his desk for the two to pick up, they took their respective envelopes and opened them to find SS Tickets to Slateport, Hoenn. Giovanni grinned with his menacing smile, “I hear summers in Hoenn are quite lovely, I want you two to send a message to them. ‘Hoenn belongs to me and leave my territory’. You two got that?”
“Yes sir!” They chirped saluting him.
“You may leave now,” He said
So the two left, Giovanni brooding in his office peer out the window to the city bellow. He would not tolerate Team Aqua and Team Magma running around Kanto or Johto. Even if it has to come to war, he’ll destroy them all.
Four days after the Cerulean Gym incident…
Archie was hard at work on his own office when the ringer on the large wall-mounted videophone sounded off. On the caller ID displayed he growled, it was Maxie undoubtedly wanting to talk about business in Kanto. When Maxie’s face appeared he sported a wide grin ridiculing his long-time enemy, “So how did your mission in Cerulean go?”
“You should talk Maxie,” Archie replied in a furrowed scowl, “You’re operation wasn’t a smashing success.”
“Ha ha,” Maxie scoffed, “Personal differences aside Archie we still have some grave concerns: those four trainers. As you’re aware Blaze St. Helens and Lee Atone interfered with our plans once before; now Erik Wyrven and Gary Winter have joined the. Thus they are becoming a credible threat to us.”
“For once I actually agree with you Maxie,” Archie sighed, “There’s no real way my men could stand up to four pokemon champions.”
“Nor can mine that’s why I came up with this plan, “ Maxie told him bring up an image on the videophone, “You remember this trainer?”
Archie looked at for awhile, then it dawned on him. So he answered, “Jake Dumont of Lavaridge. He is widely known as Blaze’s rival and beat him in this years Hoenn League Semifinals. I remember before the finals the League found out he was using the banned performance-enhancing drug Metacarbos. It was also said that he physically abused his pokemon.”
“Right.” Maxie said, “And he was banned from any pokemon competition and had his pokemon confiscated. I contacted him two days ago and he has agreed to work for our teams as a second-party.”
“And you did this without consulting me?!” Archie flared.
“Calm down, I have had some problems of my own as of late and hadn’t the time to contact you.” Maxie explained, “Besides what better way to fight a pokemon champion than to fight them with a fallen champion?”
“What indeed” Archie chuckled, “So how soon can he arrive in Vermilion?”
“In about three days,” Maxie answered, “And the little distraction I just had a couple days ago…?”
Maxie snapped his fingers and a fair of his elite guard brought Butch and Cassidy into Archie’s view. One of the guards untied Cassidy’s gag.
“When Giovanni catches wind of what you did to us he’ll…” she screamed
“Silence!” Maxie hissed, “Tell that man on the videophone what your boss wanted to tell our teams.”
Defeated she muttered, “He wanted us to tell you; “Hoenn is mine, and stay out of Kanto.”
“Take them away,” Maxie ordered the guard who dragged Butch and Cassidy out of the room, he then asked Archie, “What do you think of that?”
“That is an insult and no one insults Team Aqua,” Archie snarled, “He has declared war on my team.”
“And mine too,” Maxie replied then breaking into hysterical and menacing laughter, “Why not change the terms of our agreement? When we claim victory over Team Rocket we’ll divide Kanto and Johto amongst ourselves.”
“I like that,” Archie chuckled, “A lot.”
With that he hung up the videophone, laughing to himself. Then he started to finish what he started mumbling to himself, “You Giovanni are a fool to challenge the combined might of Team Magma and Team Aqua.”
Two hours later in Slateport Harbor…
The SS Tidal was one of Hoenn’s greatest luxury liners that goes to ports all over the world, today the ship is leaving for Vermilion City and that’s where Jake Dumont and his ‘cargo’ are headed. A Team Magma van stopped on the pier and Jake stepped out turning to his “allies” in Team Magma.
“I assume you toadies know where the cargo shipment area is right?”
“Of course.” the driver said
“Good,” He replied, “If there’s anything I hate more than failure, it’s imbeciles.”
He walked towards the stairs muttering “morons” as he approached the ticket master. He flashed his ticket and the ticket mast told him, “Welcome aboard the SS Tidal.”
“Of course,” He whispered to himself, “My family makes more in a second than you do in a year.”
He walked towards the stern of the hips which pointed to the direction of his destination: Kanto. Jake could only revel in his thoughts of how he planned on crushing his rival again. If those bleeding hearts in the Hoenn League didn’t interfere we would’ve been champion. But they had to discover how he was enhancing his pokemon with Metacarbos and his disciplinary regiments. They pointed the finger at him crying that he abused his pokemon.
“The weak willed fools didn’t want to acknowledge I am their superior and that scared them,” He snarled.
They barred him from competition in the Hoenn League and as soon as other leagues caught wind of this they barred him from entry. All because they feared him or so he thought, but why did he need them? When Team Magma came and promised him he could have his pokemon and prestige back, he took their offer. Here he was now anticipating the elimination of his rival a middle-class inferior the land of Hoenn knew as “Blaze”; the trainer who was responsible for all his ills.
“Very soon Blaze,” He snickered, “I will crush you and those lowlifes you call friends. So says Jake Dumont.”

Chapter Six: Summer Camp
(Special Thanks to my friend Erik!)
Six days after the Cerulean Gym Incident…
Our heroes are on the trail to Vermilion City but still at least a days journey and the sun was already laying low in the west. Though Erik, Gary and Lee were gabbing like schoolboys, Blaze was in the lead and unusually quiet. Today was Ashton’s tenth birthday and how he couldn’t get to Hoenn in time for that special event when Ashton was to become a trainer.
They came into a clearing in the forest; Erik looked at the sky then to Lee and Gary telling the two. “This looks like a good place to set up camp.”
“I agree,” Lee said, “There’s no way we can get to Vermilion; tonight at least.”
Even as the three stopped, Blaze kept on walking. Still absorbed in his thoughts and unaware that the others stopped. Gary looked forward as he pulled his tent of his backpack, he saw Blaze walking away. Sprinting towards him he pulled out in front of Blaze.
“Wha?” He mumbled, looking at Gary puzzled
“Did you hear?” Gary asked, “We’re setting up camp here.”
“Um,” Blaze said, “No I didn’t. Sorry…”
Blaze turned back towards camp and picked out a nice spot to decompress his tent. Quietly he crawled into it while the others regrouped. They too knew that Blaze has been acting distant since they started their hike today. Both Erik and Gary looked at Lee, knowing he’s been with Blaze longer than the both of them. Erik was the one that voiced their concerns.
“What’s the matter with Blaze?” he asked.
“I don’t recall,” Lee told him before it came to him; the conversation Blaze had with his brother, “No wait, Blaze’s brother Ashton is getting his trainers license. Blaze could be there so he exploded in Blaze’s face. Today must be Ashton’s birthday.”
Erik paused for a moment, “I see.” Then he smiled, “What’s a birthday without a couple of presents?”
“What are you planning Erik?” Gary asked someone nervously, “Every time you have that look in your eye it scares me.”
“You’ll see,” Erik said, “Lee in the meantime can you and your Scyther can chop some wood then I could get Prometheus to start a fire. Gary… you do those things you do.”
Lee nodded and walked back into the forest; this time to gather firewood and kindling with his Scyther.
“Yes sir,” Gary joked, then saluted releasing his Pokemon including Mr. Mime.
“Mime mime mime!” The pokemon chimed.
Erik sweatdropped and sighed, “Leave Blaze to me.”
Gary moaned as he recalled his Mr. Mime, “You’re no fun Erik.”
“I thought that would be apparent to you after nearly a decade of travelling together,” Erik snicker, then eyed Gary’s Donphan taking some pokemon snacks from Gary’s bag, “Oh and make sure Elephant there doesn’t go through my food again.”
Gary turned around and saw Elephant eating his food, he ran to it yelling, “Elephant don’t go through my food!”
With Gary distracted Erik was free to wander over to Blaze’s tent, there was the trainer who buried his face in his pillow with only Deluge watching over him with a worried look. There was a shifting sound of someone unzipping his tent. It had a human shadow and was slightly heavy-set, so it could only be one person. Erik wanted to visit Blaze, "Hey man, bummer about your bro's birthday. believe me, I know how it feels."
“Go away!” Blaze mutter
Erik said undaunted by Blaze’s rebuffs, "He said it was okay that I couldn't be there."
Blaze’s only response was a slight gurgle.
Erik nodded, "Yup, I could tell though... he was hurt. It was how he spoke that hurt me, not his words." he shook his head, "I never felt so guilty in my life, next year, I tried to make it up to him... but what was the point, you know? I already missed the important part. There was nothing I could do, eventually he forgave me. However, I want to help you... maybe at least ease the tearing-into...y'know?"
Blaze only tried to give the indication he was ignoring Erik but Deluge looked at Erik inquisitively, “Rai?”
Erik nodded, "I help my friends... human or pokemon" he smirked at Deluge, "...am I correct in assuming Ashton is a char-nut?"
Deluge nodded, “Rai raichu!”
"Exactly." Erik said, nodding to Deluge before putting on a REALLY cheesy German accent, "Vat ve haf 'ere is a classical case ov dooontrodiness..." he looked at Raichu, "You are wary lucky my long tailed fruend, I haf the EXACT cure vor sooch an ailment..." He grabbed Both of Blaze's ankles and started to literally drag him out of his tent, "...a sure fire way out of moping in his bed, is a nice walk to the woods to the pokecenter in town."
As expected Blaze didn’t take to being dragged out, still cling to his pillow he whined, “Leggo!”
"Uh Erik?" Lee said coming in with his Scyther with some firewood in his hands , "The nearest town is ten kilometers away."
Erik stopped, blinking. He dropped Ben's ankles, "Screw that then." he said, looking at Deluge he mouthed, *LAPTOP* and motioned for the Raichu to follow him outside
Deluge hopped over Blaze whose feet were sticking outside the tent. Sifting through his stuff Deluge was successful in finding the laptop in it’s compressed state. The raichu thought he’d also need the transfer pad as well so he picked it up as he ran towards Erik. The trainer gave Deluge a pat on the head as he decompressed the laptop and the extra parts.
The raichu hopped on over to where Gary and Lee were, Lee’s Muk (Deathstrike) and Gary’s Tyranitar rolled a couple logs in for the trainers to sit on.
“So how can we make a pit?” Lee asked
“Hey Elephant!” Gary called to the Donphan who was eating a patch of grass in a corner of the campsite, “Can you come here and dig us a hole?”
Elephant just ignored Gary and moved to another spot, “That was successful.” Lee remarked.
Gary growled for a minute instead of Elephant he then looked at his Tyranitar, “Never mind then. Godzilla you can dig a shallow pit for us can’t you?”
“Rar!” The tyranitar roared picking a place then spun like a drill into the ground. Climbing out the three feet deep pit. Lee tossed the firewood in there as Deathstrike and the other released people surrounded the pick with large rocks.
Gary pet his Tyranitar, “You’ll get some extra pokemon chow for this.”
“If Elephant hasn’t gotten through it again.” Lee joked
“Oh quiet you,” Gary hissed
Lee tried to snicker but didn’t to spare himself what could potentially get messy. One thing his parents told him. “Don’t Mess with a trainer that has a Dark-type pokemon.”
“Should we get Erik now?” Lee asked him, “Time for him to get Prometheus out to start the fire.”
Gary looked back at Erik who was at the table reading the “Read Me” file for the teleportation pad. Then shook his head at Lee. “We don’t need Prometheus when we have Godzilla here,” He said and Godzilla snorted, “Besides I wouldn’t want to interfere with Erik’s plan to get B out of his funk.”
The he turned to Godzilla and ordered a Flamethrower attack. Godzilla obliged with a small jet of flame igniting the fire.
“Impressive.” Lee complimented, “Let’s get to work on dinner.”
Lee passed by Erik on his way to his to his backpack to get his cooking wares and compressed food-packs. Though not heavily concentrating on it he eavesdropped on Erik’s communication with his folks.
"...oh, one last thing dad... I'm on Blaze's laptop and he has this new portable pokeball transfer system... could you send me that egg that I sent you a while back?" he asked softly.
Kenneth nodded, "Sure Hoss. Lemme just go grab it." he said, as he went to find it. Marie popped on and they talked for a little bit. Kenneth was in the background, holding up... a Charmander egg!! "This it?"
Erik smiled, "Yes, perfect. I'll send Aeon real quick so we can transfer. Blaze'll **** a solid gold brick."
Erik stuck out his tongue. Lee snickered as he started cook their dinner.
Erik smiled as he pet Deluge who ran up to his seat.
"Thanks mom, dad." he put Aeon's ball into the transfer system, muttered a quick prayer and hoped it worked.
Thankfully, it did. A moment later, the egg was transported by pokeball to Erik. “Now to give this to Blaze.”
Lee shook his head as he chopped the onions, “I don’t think so, Erik. Let’s wait until dinner as far as I know; Blaze can’t refuse a meal.”
Erik looked to Deluge who seemed to agree by nodding. “Rai rai!”
“Besides,” Lee added, “We need to break out the pokemon chow before Elephant eats it all.”
“I’ll handle that,” Erik told Lee snickering at that joke, he then placed the ball in Deluge’s paws. Pulling out four of the five pokeballs from his belt he released the pokemon from. A pair of baby Charmanders chased each other around the fire with their parent a Charizard gave chase as well roaring, “Charrrrrrr!” (“Be careful!”)
Lee noticed that Erik still had one Pokeball left on his belt, “You’re not going to release your Vivabra?”
“No I sent him back to the ranch with Draco,” Erik told him his face growing somewhat pale.
“Not him,” Lee groaned.
“It’s his turn in the rotation,” Erik said pulling out the pokechow, “I don’t really want to talk about this now.”
Then he turned away and walked towards Prometheus who finally got the twins to settle down. He then pulled out his Pokenav then disappeared into the forest.

Chapter 6 Continued
“Hey Gary,” Lee yelled over to him, “Can you finish chopping up these vegetables?”
Gary perked up and yelled back, “Sure,” but when he got to them Lee was already following Erik into the forest. Lee faded into the forest as well, Gary just shrugged then continued to grumble, complaining about being left behind.
Erik continued to look at his Pokenav, according to the map there should be a lake about a few hundred metres from the camp. On his way he heard some rustling that started to make him uneasy.
“It must be a caterpie or something,” He assured himself as he came across the lake’s shore. He threw the pokeball over the lake and out popped a Mantine with a wingspan of over 20 feet dove into the lake.
Lee emerged from the forest to see it and his eyes widened at the site, “Sweet Kyogre!” he cried, “That’s the ‘Leviathan’ I’ve heard about?!”
Erik swung his head around, “Lee? You followed me here?!”
Lee hopped down the embankment landing next to Erik, “Well I was curious of who Leviathan was. Blaze told me you had a huge pokemon by that name…”
“Lee.” Erik said turning to Lee, “I said I don’t want to talk about it. Let’s go back to camp before we’re missed.”
He then climbed up the embankment and started to walk back to camp, Lee shrugged and followed him back into the forest. Again there was some rustling in the woods; Erik looked back at Lee who gestured he had no clue what it was. Then they felt a whoosh, someone else was here and said person or group is following them. A circle of eyes surrounded them.
“It’s a pack of Mightyenas,” Lee said, “You know who that is.”
“Yeah,” Erik replied, “Either Team Aqua or Team Magma.”
A voice then hissed, “Stay out of affairs of Team Aqua and Team Magma!”
“Oh yeah?” Erik asked, “We sent you packing and we’ll do it to you again.”
“Really?” The voice snickered, “I happen to know that you both released your pokemon at your campsite and are now defenseless.”
“Not quite,” Erik said unclipping the last pokeball from his belt, “In this pokeball is the legendary Sea Guardian itself Lugia. Leave us be our you’ll be sent flying.”
“You’re bluffing,” The voice scoffed, “Lugia is impossible to catch!”
“So was that 20 foot wide beast I just released,” Erik laughed, “Compared to him Lugia was a piece of cake to catch. This is your last chance so if you know what’s good for you, leave us alone.”
The voice then quietly conversed with another before speaking to the two, “Very well, but be warned if mess with our plans. There shall be dire consequences for you and your friends!”
The white light flashed again flashed and the stillness in the air indicated that whatever threat existed is now gone. Lee looked to Erik, “Don’t tell me you captured a Lugia.”
Erik only laughed as he threw the pokeball, it’s only occupant a Wynaut. “Nau!” it squeaked. Lee’s eyes widened even more, “You fooled them into you had a Lugia when you only had a Wynaut?!”
Picking up the Wynaut into his arms, he snorted. “I dunno if I fooled them, but it definitely would be funny if they thought little Ynot here was a Lugia.”
“Nau,” The Wynaut squeaked again.
With Lee and Erik gone for several minutes Gary was already preparing their dinner. The smell of the cooking food seeped into Blaze’s tent. He stirred for a moment before moaning and getting up. Passing Gary he remarked, “I knew I smelt something burning.”
“What is this? ‘Make-fun-of Gary Day’?” He shot back.
“It’s the 10th of July isn’t it?” Blaze asked.
Blaze then uttered as he sat next to his computer, “Then yes it ‘Make-Fun-of-Gary Day’ as mandated by me and Erik 4 years ago.”
“Damn,” Gary cursed.
Deluge ran up to Blaze carrying the pokeball Erik gave him, he yelled. “Rai Raichu!” Then held up the Pokeball for Blaze to take. “What’s this?” Blaze asked.
“It’s a pokeball with a Charmander egg inside,” Gary replied, “Erik had an extra one so he thought your brother Ashton would want it.”
Blaze glanced at the pokeball, “Well he did take a liking to my Charizard ‘Fireflight’. Say why is my computer out anyway.”
“Oh be quiet and send the egg to your folks.” Gary told him.
Blaze shrugged and when he was about to send the pokeball over to the Ranch when the videophone rang. Blaze clicked on the icon bringing up the window, to say the least Blaze was stunned by who was calling him. “Flannery?”
“Hey Cuz,” She greeted, “What’s up?”
“I was going to send this charmander egg to mom,” Blaze replied, “Where’s mom and dad and why aren’t you at the gym?”
“Your dad is driving Ashton to Littleroot and your mom is out feeding the Pokemon,” She said before her expression to a grim one, “I came to have my pokemon get some physiotherapy from your mom. I just lost a battle.”
“That’s a bummer,” Blaze said
“But that’s not all,” Flannery added, “There was a break in at the ranch three days ago. You know that trainer Dumont?”
“Yeah.” He muttered, recalling the whole “Metacarbos” debacle less than a month back.
By this time Erik and Lee were coming in from the forest, quietly they approached Blaze who was still talking to Flannery.
“His pokemon were stolen by Team Magma.”
“What?!” Blaze cried, “Are mom and my brothers okay?! My pokemon?!”
“They’re fine,” Flannery reassured them, “So what about that charmander egg?”
“Oh right,” Blaze said placing the pokeball on the teleport pad, “Can you make sure that it gets to Ashton? I don’t want my brother to think I forgot him on his birthday.”
“Sure thing.” Flannery replied.
Blaze place the pokeball on the teleport pad and typed in the access codes for the PC transfer to the ranch. “Here it comes.” Blaze told her as his finger pressed the ‘Send’ button. It a flash of white light the ball disappeared and reappeared at the ranch as Flannery took it.
“Well see you around Flan,” Blaze smiled.
“See ya around B,” She said waving him, “It also wouldn’t hurt you to visit your cousin’s gym.”
She then hung up and Blaze set his laptop to standby, turning around to find Lee over his shoulder drooling. “Flannery…” right then and there Blaze wanted to give him a good belting to the midsection. But he interrupted by Gary’s announcement, “Soup’s on!”
That seemed to snap Lee out of it and clutching his stomach, Erik tried to reassure them.
“He’s gotten better. Honest.”

Chapter 6 Continued
Over dinner Blaze told them everyone Flannery said to him about the break-in at the Chimney Mount Ranch. There was much to say that somehow Blaze’s rival and everyone’s enemy Jake Dumont was somehow involved in this robbery.
"Maybe he's in league with Team Aqua and Magma," Lee added
"And that brings up the question why Team Aqua and Team Magma are working together when they're mortal enemies..." Blaze said
"Easy enough, common goal." Erik said, smirking at Lee, "don't need psychic power for that."
"And that common goal is?" Blaze asked
"That, might need psychic powers." Erik chuckled
"Wait!" Lee told them, "Two Team Rocket members were in the Viridian City Pokecenter when we were there Blaze. There has to be a connection."
"Gang war?" Gary offered
"Lets hope not." Erik said
"I heard rumors of Team Rocket's presence in Hoenn, evidently Boss Rocket wants to muscle in on Hoenn" Blaze snarled, "Not that Hoenn what Team Aqua and Magma's turf."
"There we go then." Gary said, "a gang war."
Erik nodded, "With the four of us caught right in the middle."
"And possibly millions of innocents." Lee said, "I don't think either gang has anything against open warfare."
"Maybe it will be short?" Gary asked
"Yeah, I hear that Giovanni has some real morons on his pay roll.... and they have a motto? come on." Erik sighed
"That was only a wannabe runway model, a girly man and stupid Meowth," Blaze groaned, "Team Rocket's full of professionals."
"What about that other team that people run into, the rivals to that other team?" Erik asked, "There about as stupid, and if you ask me, I think the girl's name should be Butch."
"And their HAIR!" Gary added, laughing, "They must spend their paychecks on hair color and mousse."
"I thought his name was Botch." Blaze snickered
"You'd think that wouldn't you..." Erik chuckled
"Or maybe it was '*****'" Lee chuckled, "That's a more fitting name."
Erik and Gary laughed uproariously, Gary passing around some snacks for the group and their pokemon. Sizzle nodded at Gary as it is his way of saying ‘thank you’ and gave a dirty look at Elephant. Elephant merely left a present for Sizzle and walked away to do his own thing. Gary shook his head, muttering and went to get a pooper-scooper.
Erik came back into the camp area after relieving himself, washing his hands with a little bit of canteen water and sat down next to his friends, "Before I forget; we have company guys."
"Of course," Blaze said, "Plenty of Pokemon inhabit these forests"
"Including ones that rasp at me to stay away from affairs that don't concern us?" Erik countered
"Maybe it was a Ghastly," Blaze said.
"and what affairs would concern us about a Ghastly?" Erik asked
“Touché,” Blaze quipped
And Elephant was busy trying to figure out how to get Ynot to move so he could get at Erik's food.
Sizzle got up and confronted Elephant, "Keeeeeeen" ("What do you think you're doing?")
Elephant ignored him and sat looking at Ynot, who was 'growling' at him, “Naaaaaaa.” (“Back off, this is daddy's food”)
Sizzle gave Elephant a Blaze Kick to the trunk, "AZZZZZZ!" ("Get lost!")
Gary was there in a blink of an eye trying to keep Elephant back from attacking Sizzle, "Hey, come on, back off..."
"Elephant... remember the last time you took my food... my last piece of pecan pie and last can of orange soda..." Erik sounded completely menacing and out of character as he glared at the Donphan, who actually shivered for a moment, then slunk off
Gary went after him with some burn heal to clear up his trunk
Sizzle snorted, "Ennn." ("Ass")
Ynot looked at him, "Nau?" (“Ass?”)
Sizzle ignored the Ynot and continued eating shooting a menacing glare at Elephant from time to time. Blaze and Lee shrugged the incident off.
"That's Sizzle for you," Blaze told Gary, "I thought he would started being a bit more 'polite'"
Gary had finally given up trying to heal Elephant, letting him sulk. "that was more polite?"
Erik raised an eyebrow at Ynot who was running around and jumping, "Nau Nau Nau" (“Ass Ass Ass”)
Someone has to teach that Donphan some manners!" Blaze shot back, raising his voice, "What is its problem anyway?!"
Reaper who was silently mediating when Ynot was jumping and yelling in front of it.
"Or..." ("Where did you learn that word?")
Gary and Erik shrugged, "No clue."
"He's always acted like that." Gary answered, "Took me two weeks to finally catch him."
"Nau Nau Nau Nau Nau Nau Nau Nau Nau Nau Nau Nau" Ynot was jumping around like she was playing a game, she stopped, pointed at Sizzle, "Wyn, naut nau. Wynaut!" she smiled at Reaper (“Him, he said it to Elephant. Its fun to say!”)
“Scizor sci zo or." Reaper told her ("It's not a nice thing to say, especially for a young one like you to say.")
Reaper smirked wanting the teach Sizzle a lesson. "Zor." ("Ask Sizzle.")
Ynot hugged Reaper, "Wy!" (“Kay!!”) and went bouncing over to Sizzle, tugging on some of his leg feathers.
Erik watched all of this with extreme interest and utter confusion, "What the bloody ages is going on with them?" he wondered quietly
"How much does it cost to feed Elephant?" Blaze asked jokingly.
"Ken." Sizzle remarked ignoring the tugging. ("Even Giovanni can't afford to feed that worthless clump of Pokemon")
"Rai!" Deluge yelled at Sizzle ("Ynot wants to talk to you.")
"Blaze..." Sizzle sighes before snapping at Ynot, "Ken?!" (What?!")
Ynot trembled, "wynaut, wyn au aut wynaut" (I just wanted to ask you a question)
Erik took out a small book, Gary groaned, "Elephant has cost me, alone, about two hundred dollars. because I pack for me, making sure I have enough food and then I have to buy it all again because he eats it before I can get it packed. This is about... every too weeks."
"Blaziken." Sizzle sighed. ("Make it quick okay?")
Blaze yelped, "Good lord! My computer upgrade only cost $750."
"Wynaut wyat?" (“Why is ass a bad thing to say?”)
"Tell me about it." Erik said, "Four hundred dollars a month, for me alone..."
"Bla" Sizzle said pointing at Elephant. ("Because even he's not worthy of that title.")
"wynaut wy wy? Wynaut wy" (“But Reapy said its not a nice thing for me to say, why? It’s fun to say”)
Sizzle glared at Reaper, "Ken..." ("Because 'ass' is an insult a swear word.")
"Wynaut?" (“What’s a swear word?”)
Erik glanced over at Deluge, Sizzle and Ynot, "What in the name of all that is sweet and good is going on over there?"
Sizzle sighed, "Ken..." ("Go ask Prometheus or something.")
"BLAZIKEN!" ("Because I said so!") Sizzle yelled walking to blaze, tapping his pokeball and retreating into it for the night.
Ynot whimpered sadly, Sizzle's yelling had scared her, she ran up to Erik and lept into his lap shuddering with tears. Erik just blinked, hugging her and looked at Blaze in a confused manner, "um...."
Blaze sadly groaned, "I should've known it was a mistake to let Sizzle out, Since Deluge and I are the only ones he respects."
Deluge comforted Blaze with a pat on his arm, "Rai..." he squeaked. ("It's alright at least he didn't hurt her.")
Erik sweatdropped, "Sometimes, I wish we had a pokemon that could speak english or something... that was just downright confusing..." he said soothing Ynot best he could
"That still doesn't excuse Blaze's lack of control over Sizzle's temper," Lee said sternly
"I can't blame Blaze for Sizzle's actions, I mean, I let my pokemon have their own personalities..." Erik said, cooing to Ynot, "I just want to know what the heck happened"
Blaze yawned loudly, "Well I'm going to call it a night. We still have a long way to go before we reach Vermilion."
Lee agreed, "Yeah we need to be up bright and early tomorrow."
Erik and Gary hissed, not liking the words "bright" or "early"
Ynot still trembled in Erik's lap, whimpering and crying
Blaze got up and recalled Reaper, then he and Deluge walked into his tent. Lee looked at Gary and Erik.
"Bright" Gary said
"Early" Erik cursed
"Come on," Lee said, "We do have a lot of ground to over tomorrow."
"Bright" Gary said
"Early" Erik cursed
Lee sighed before resigning himself to his tent, "Expect a wake-up call tomorrow."
Snickering like a villain he closed his tent.
Erik sighed, "Makes me want to sleep with a big stick..."
Gary nodded, "he has a point though, night man."
"Night." Erik however, wasn't tired, so he was going to stay up a bit later. Pro had gone to sleep with the twins, and Ynot was settling down in his lap. Gary recalled Elephant with out much trouble actually and settled down in his tent.

Chapter Seven: Raichu’s Blitzkrieg
Erik was still sitting by the fire, rings around his eyes. He hadn't slept a bit at all, not that it mattered, for at his feet was a note book with about five pages of scribbled notes and story on it.
Gary however, was snoring away
Blaze opened up his laptop and turned it up, he decompressed the speakers and attached them to the laptop. Lee was already making some coffee. "You up all night?" he asked
"Yeah, I had this idea and it just sorta flowed from there." Erik said with a yawn, "best writing time is between 2 and 3 in the morning, you know that?"
"I know didn't," Lee said sitting down and giving Erik a mug, "You're really going to need this today."
Blaze went into his iTunes folder and pulled up a song as Deep End emerged from Blaze's tent wearing one his trainer's old shirts. Blaze turned on the music...
I'm too sexy for my love too sexy for my love
Love's going to leave me
I'm too sexy for my shirt too sexy for my shirt
So sexy it hurts
Deep End started dancing to it as Blaze put the volume on full blast.
Erik swallowed his tongue as he saw Deep End start to strut his stuff, "What the crap!!"
"That's Blaze's idea of a wake-up call," Lee sighed, "Coffee?"
And I'm too sexy for Milan too sexy for Milan
New York and Japan
And I'm too sexy for your party
Too sexy for your party
Deep End them tore off the shirt and whirled it like he was a stripper but the music didn't seem to affect Gary.
"Not when there is danger of a spit take..." Erik said, then his eyes widened when Deep End started to imitate a chippendale's dancer. Erik held his head, "oi..."
Ynot was just sitting in front of the fire, watching it all
"And Gary can sleep through that?" Lee chuckled
"Its not like he's seeing what we are." Erik said, covering Ynot's eyes, "That’s... just wrong." he shook his head
Gary still slept, turning over
Blaze stopped the music, Deep End groaned a little. "Okay," Blaze said, "Maybe that was a stupid idea..."
"I dunno, you guys practice you can take the act on the road." Erik said, taking the cup of coffee and sipping from it
"...but there's always the old stand-by" Blaze walked up to Gary’s tent and opened the door to Gary's tent. “Deep End; show this philistine your Water Gun.”
Gary yawned, coming out of the tent, "morning guys." he said, "What’s up?
"Pert..." Deep End snickered shooting a jet of water at Gary...
Not having enough time to cancel that order the jet of water nailed the newest member of the waking.
"You had to get up at the wrong time..." Blaze groaned
Erik almost fell off the log laughing as Gary was sent sputtering back into the tent, "Hey, at least you got a shower out of it!"
"Oh be *glub* quiet!"
"Deep End stop!" Blaze ordered, whispering into the Swampert's ear, "You may have to use Ice Beam so be ready."
Gary came out sopping wet, "BLAZE!!" he shouted, spitting out some water
"Uh oh," Blaze squeaked
Erik continued to laugh, actually falling off the log
Gary began to chase Blaze around the campsite, yelling and laughing. Being a prankster, he could appreciate a joke
Blaze continued to run around in circles with Gary in pursuit. Deluge jumped on the long his cheeks sparking, "Raiiiiiiiii!"
Ynot, thinking it was fun, joined in running around laughing.
Erik just shook his head and sipped his coffee, "So... being the only sane humans in this group...." he said to Lee, looking for a topic change
"You got mail!" Blaze's laptop chirped
Erik stood up and walked in between Gary and Blaze, stopping the chase easily, "Blaze, you have mail... and an annoying alert sound to boot." he grabbed at towel, "here Gary, go dry off."
Blaze bolted for hip laptop as Deep End, Deluge and Concorde crowded around him as Blaze accessed Outlook express.
"Kick ass," He said, "An e-mail from Marty"
"Wassitsay?" Erik asked, drying his hands off from Gary and picking up Ynot, petting her gently
When I phoned mom and dad from Celadon City, they told me you were in the region. Let's hope we can meet sometime.
Your Favorite Twin :P
P.S. Enclosed is a link to Vermilion Gym Webpage. You and Deluge should try your luck with Lt. Surge and his Raichu."
"Sounds like an electrifying battle prospect." Erik said, making his pokemon and even Gary groan
Blaze clicked on the link and accessed the Gym's page where he saw a bio for Lt. Surge's new tag-team partner Private Sparks. "Tag Team?" Blaze muttered "uh oh.."
"Two on two battles aren't that big a deal, Hoenn was the first to start'em, remember?" Erik said, peering over Blaze's shoulder, moving Deep End out of the way
"Yeah it meant one trainer against two, this gym's rules say it's two trainers against two." Blaze explained before seeing an interesting tidbit.
"Oh... Ohhhh." Erik said, "THAT could be interesting..."
"Lt. Surge boasts that his Raichu is the best-trained on the planet." Blaze read from the website, Deluge growled.
"I doubt it, Deluge is way better." Erik said
Gary agreed, taking coffee from Lee.
“Yeah I heard his Raichu’s pretty slow, but my Deluge can outrun,” Blaze smiled patting Deluge on the head. He then noticed an attachment on the email, “I wonder what this is.”
So he clicked on it and found it was a map that had a shortcut to Vermilion one that could have them in the city by noon at least. Downloading it into his Pokenav his jumped up in excitement.
“Heh heh heh,” Gary snicker, “And I have a nice surprise for Lt. Surge’s partner…”
Erik groaned, “Don’t tell me you’re using Elephant.”
“Sure,” Gary said, “Why not? He’s of the ground type isn’t he?”
“Yes,” Erik sighed, “But he rarely if ever listens to you. Don’t you have another pokemon you can use?”
“Nah,” Gary replied, “I think Elephant’s going to do all right.”
“If you two are finished talking…” Lee said his voice relatively distant. Erik and Gary turned their heads to find that Blaze and Lee packed all their stuff and put out the fire. “How did you pack up so fast?!” Erik asked in mild shock.
“First rule about travelling with us,” Blaze laughed.
Lee then added, “You better be ready to pack up and move that the drop of the hat.
“There are some things I’ll never understand about you two.” Erik groaned as he and Gary moved to pack their stuff.

Chapter 7 Continued
Luckily for the group the shortcut was not far from their camp nor was it a cruel joke from Martin. The trail led straight into Vermilion City in much shorter time than the trail they were previously taking. Discussing their plans the four stopped outside the Vermilion Gym.
“So Lee and I will see if we can score some tickets to Hoenn and see if the four of us can find any more information on Team Aqua and Team Magma’s plans.” Erik explained, “Blaze, you and Gary can go challenge Lt. Surge and said partner… did you get the name?”
Blaze shook his head, “I think it was a ‘Private Sparks’. I didn’t have time to get any more information from the site. Who he/she is and what pokemon Private Sparks uses it a mystery to me.”
“Right. Anyhoo we’ll all meet in front of this Gym in two hours time. Got it?”
Blaze and Gary nodded, Lee and Erik then turned back and walked for the waterfront.
“Let’s kick Lt. Surge and Private Spark’s butt,” Gary said excited as the two walked into the gym. Though it looked fairly plain the garb of the gym trainers indicated that this place was highly military like. The trainer wearing the leather jacket and sunglasses cackled, “Hey boss, looks like we’ve got ourselves a pair of victims!”
From another door Lt. Surge entered, he took off his sunglasses and inspected Blaze and Gary. He smirked, “Finally, some excitement today.” He walked up to Blaze, though the two were roughly the same height Lt. Surge had a more domineering presence he looked down on Blaze, “Tell me son, who are you and where do you come from?”
“I’m Blaze St. Helens of Lavaridge, my friend Gary and I challenge you and your partner to a tag team battle.”
Lt. Surge scoffed at Blaze for a second as he stepped back, “Whatever you say ‘Blaze’. Private Sparks and I will be ready for you in five minutes. Tim, escort the two to the battle field.”
“Yes sir,” the Gym Trainer said turning to Blaze and Gary, “Follow me.”
As Tim was leading them into the Gym Blaze asked, “Are you still going to use your Donphan?”
“Why does everyone question everything I do?” Gary replied with a tinge of resentment in his voice, “I am making this decision of sound mind.”
“But how are you going to battle with a Pokemon that won’t listen to your orders?”
“I have faith in Elephant,” Gary said, “This is going to work. You’ll see/”
When Private Sparks came out Blaze and Gary raised their eyebrows. She looked familiar underneath the low-lying military fatigues and the tanktop that cut at the belly; then it came to Blaze has he whispered, “Isn’t she Wattson’s granddaughter?”
“Yeah,” Gary whispered back, “I meet her on the Hoenn circuit. She zapped all my Pokemon into submission. But that’s before I got elephant.”
Tim stepped to the referee’s box as he pulled the microphone to his mouth He coughed, “Trainers Blaze St. Helens with a Raichu and Trainer Gary Winter with a Donphan challenges Gym Leaders Lt. Surge with his Raichu and Private Sparks Manectric. 2 on 2 tag team battle. Start!”
“Go Deluge!” Blaze yelled throwing the pokeball, Gary threw his yelling, “Go Elephant!”
Lt. Surge and Private Sparks in unison threw their pokeballs crying, “Go Pokeball!”
For a second the two teams stared each other down, but Lt. Surge took advantage and ordered his Raichu to nail Deluge with “Dynamic Punch”. Explosive energy surround the Raichu’s paw yelling “Raiiiii!” as it lunged towards Deluge. Blaze only retorted with, “Agility now Deluge!”
Deluge sidestepped the attack and circled around the battlefield, swinging around to attack, “Quick Attack!” Blaze ordered. “Raichu,” Deluge squeaked as he rush tackled Lt. Surge’s Raichu.
“Don’t just stand there,” Lt. Surge wailed, “Hit it with a Mega Punch or two.”
His raichu tried to hit Deluge but Blaze trained it for speed and evasiveness so no matter how hard Lt. Surge’s Raichu could try it could not land a punch on Deluge.
“Now Manectric! Use you Thunderbolt.” Private Sparks barked pointing at the Donphan who was apathetically looking at the Manectric. The Manectric roared discharging a bolt of lightning at Elephant.
Too bad for Private Sparks, a Donphan’s skin is like rubber and repels electric attacks. Seemingly Gary picked the right Pokemon to battle but when he ordered, “Rollout attack!” Elephant raised his trunk and belched at Private Sparks and her pokemon. The smell leaked to the ensuing battle of the raichus stopping it as everyone in the gym held their noses. “Ow gross!” Private Sparks whined.
“For the love of Groudon,” Blaze groaned, “What do you feed that thing?!”
Lt. Surge pointed to the two watching gym trainers, “You two, open the windows!”
And so the two trainer opened the windows and the odor started to leak outside diluting it in the Gym and so the battle resumed. Gary then ordered his Donphan again, “Rollout!”
Elephant didn’t even budge, “What’s wrong with him now?” Gary sighed.
Private Sparks made an observation, “I think he’s asleep.”
Gary let out a big groan as he begged, “Elephant please get up.”
Lt. Surge chuckled, “Now Private Sparks, we can double up on Blaze’s Raichu.”
“Yes sir,” She said ordering her Manectric, “Manectric! Tackle!”
The Manectric rushed towards the grappling raichus and knocked Deluge away and soon as he recovered Lt. Surge ordered, “Raichu! Mega Kick!” As soon as Deluge was knocked back by the devastating blow. “Don’t give up, Deluge!” Blaze said to encourage the beleaguered Raichu, “It’s not over yet!”
“Rai…” Deluge moaned weakly
“Blaze I don’t think Deluge can hold off two pokemon without Elephant’s help,” Gary said becoming more and more worried.
Blaze looked at the two opposing Pokemon who were eager to attack again, “I think I see a pattern of attack.”
“What do ya mean?” Gary inquired.
“I think that one attacks first and the other attacks as their opponent is recovering,” Blaze replied, “I think I know how to use that against them.”
Private Sparks looked at the wobbling Deluge and ordered her pokemon, “Tackle.”
Blaze and Deluge watched as Manectric ran closer and closer, when it got into position Blaze ordered, “Reversal!”
“Raichu!” Deluge shouted and it picked up Manectric, using its momentum Deluge threw it at the sleeping Elephant.
Elephant woke up in a rage ignoring his animosity towards Gary he obeyed when his trainer yelled, “Rollout attack!”. Without question he rolled up into a wheel peeling out and making a mad-“roll” at Lt. Surge’s Raichu knocking him upwards and the Raichu landed on it’s bottom. Oh no, Elephant wasn’t even finished yet. He wanted revenge on the Manectric it believed attack it. Peeling out it rushed at the Manectric with incredible speed. The crash sent Manectric almost as high as the ceiling, it crashed towards the floor on it’s front side.
No doubt about it; Manectric was fainted as Elephant unrolled and skidded beside Gary.
“My Manectric!” Private Sparked cried as she recalled it.
“Good job Elephant.” Gary complimented Elephant as he recalled him into the pokeball, “Now’s a good time for a rest.”
Lt. Surge eyed Blaze as their Pokemon were the only two left, “Well Blaze it comes to this. Can you take more corporal punishment?”
“Bring it on Surge.” Blaze said, confidently.
“MWHAHAHA,” Surge chuckled, “Raichu! Mega Punch his Raichu into submission.
“Deluge,” Blaze retorted, “Don’t attack until I tell you to.”
Gary and Surge looked at Blaze like the boy had gone nuts. Deluge rolled with each punch, staggering backwards with every blow. Deluge was very close to fainting when Lt. Surge’s Raichu was about to deliver the final blow, but was taking it’s sweet time to let his trainer gloat.
“Looks like you’re defeated Blaze.”
“Doesn’t it?” Blaze smiled.
The Raichu threw it punch at Deluge who caught the opposing raichu’s paw and lifted it over his head.
“Deluge,” Blaze ordered, “Reversal.”
“Rai!” Deluge yelled as it threw the other Raichu on it’s back.
Lt. Surge’s raichu moaned, “raiii…” as it found it didn’t have the strength to continue so it blacked out. Blaze and Gary won the match.
“Holy mother of…” Lt. Surge cried looking over his Raichu, “That was unbelievable!”
Private Sparks was equally stunned by the pair’s victory but she started clapping and eventually the two other gym trainers did as well. After absorbing it Lt. Surge smiled and clapped.
Blaze and Gary basked in the victory as Deluge ran up to Blaze and jumped into his arms hugging his trainer, “We did it Deluge, you were great out there.”

Chapter 7 Continued
Standing in the middle of the battleground Lt. Surge and Private Sparks awarded the two the Thunder Badge.
“Let this be proof of your incredible skill in battle.” Lt. Surge, “You were amazing out there Blaze lulling my Raichu and I to prematurely believe we won. Motivating your friend’s Donphan was a nice touch two.”
“And even though he wouldn’t listen to you,” Private Sparks added directing her praise to Gary, “Choosing your Donphan may have been a misguided choice; but he proved his worth and potential. Congrats both of you.”
“Thanks.” Gary said.
“That was a tough one tough.” Blaze nodded.
“Heh, if you ever want a rematch kid.” Lt. Surge offered, “I’m gaaaaa…”
Then the Gym shook as explosions could be heard from the outside, “What was that?!” Lt. Surge yelled.
Blaze and Gary ran outside with the Gym Leaders and Trainers following them. It was in fact an explosion. Panic soon filled the streets as Blaze and Gary felt it in the pits of their stomachs Team Aqua and Team Magma where behind this.
“The war…it’s beginning.” Blaze muttered before looking to Gary, “Follow me, we’ve got to find Erik and Lee. Somehow they must be involved in this trying to stop Team Aqua…”
“And Team Magma…” Gary continue his voice growing with worry.
The two bolted off into the city’s interior before Lt. Surge or his trainer could restrain them. Fighting the fleeing crowds; Blaze and Gary had only one thing in mind. Stop the warring teams no matter what the cost.

Chapter 8: War Dawn
Minutes before the explosion at the Vermilion City pokecenter; Nurse Joy came back to the counter where Erik and Lee were waiting. She placed the two trays of pokeballs in front of them and said “And here’s your pokemon; imported and recharged. Have a nice day.”
As Erik clipped his pokeballs onto his belt he noticed Lee sent some of his pokemon back to the ranch, “I thought you were a pacifist.”
“I am,” Lee replied, “But with our being threatened by Team Aqua and Magma, even I have to defend myself when necessary.”
“Besides it’s high time we knocked those team back on their asses,” Erik chuckled.
“So should we go to the…” Lee began to ask but then an explosion rocked the air close to the pokecenter blowing out the windows and knocking every trainer in the lobby off their feet. Lee got up and groaned, “Erik, you alright?”
Erik rose from the other end of the counter and looked down, “My apologies Nurse Joy.”
She then got up and stretched, “Not to worry Mr. Wyrven, I’m alright it’s the other trainers I’m worried about.”
Erik leapt to the other side of the counter and faced Lee, “There’s no doubt of who’s responsible for that explosion.”
Lee nodded, “We’ll have to go stop them.”
“Wait,” Nurse Joy protested, “I don’t want to see any of you two get hurt. I must insist you stay.”
“And if we don’t do something,” Erik told her, “This city may very well be left in ruins.”
With that Erik and Lee bolted out the door heading towards where the explosion originated. Nurse Joy could do but sigh and shake her head, “Sometimes I don’t understand trainers.”
The explosion was actually the result of a battle between Team Rocket and Team Aqua a few blocks away from the pokecenter. TR agents Bobbie*, Clyde*, Domino and a legion of grunts faced of against Rich, some TA administrators and numerous grunts as well. The first salvos were Shelly’s Wailord against Bobbie’s Steelix in an act of desperation used “Explosion” fainting the Wailord as well as the Steelix.
(* Bobbie and Clyde are my ‘Americanized’ names for Buson and Bashou from the pokemon special “Lightning Raikou’s Legend”)
The explosion also decimated four square city blocks and sent both sides flying.
“Oh no,” Shelly whined as she recalled her Wailord, “My Wailord fainted.”
“Don’t worry about that,” Rich snarled, “Team Rocket’s still standing.”
Clyde stepped out from the wreckage, “Go Skarmory! Muk!”
Bobbie withdrew Steelix and released his Machamp, boasting over Team Aqua “Is that the best you got?”
“You don’t know who you’re dealing with “pal”.” Rich reported releasing his Mightyena and Sealeo. Then Shelly pulled out her Crawdaunt and David calling out his Pelipper and Croconaw.
“Team Aqua Attack!” Rich ordered, sending the two teams on a collision course. Chaos filled the streets as every last member of both teams were fighting not giving any regard for the innocents caught in the middle. Luckily for them four trainers leapt into the melee coming in from four different sides Blaze, Gary, Erik and Lee caught them off guard.
Rich turned around to see Erik’s Jolteon attacking his Sealeo with Pin Missile, scanning the crowds for the Jolteon’s trainer. He then locked eyes on Erik ordering his Mightyena, “Rip that meddler to shreds!” With a snarl the Mightyena leapt but as it just edged near Erik it was knocked from the sky by no one other than…
“Ken…” Sizzle hissed looking over the defeated Mightyena.
Erik turned around, “Sizzle! That means Blaze is here. Where is he?”
“Blaziken!,” Sizzle said pointing to Blaze who was heading for Clyde. The Blaziken then turned his attention to Clyde’s Machamp, “Blazeeeee…” (“This should present a challenge.”)
Blaze run full throttle towards Clyde taking a shot at his midsection. Clyde turned around unfazed by the blow, Blaze cradled his fist groaning, “Owwwww.”
“What do you turn you’re doing ya little firebrand?” He hissed
“Trying to knock you out,” Blaze retorted, mocking Clyde, “What does it look like to you meathead?”
“Why you little,” Clyde growled preparing to give Blaze his bone crushing punch, before the blow could connect with Blaze he was pushed away unto his back. He grunted as he made impact, shaking his head he got back onto his butt and found Erik sprawled out on the ground, he took the blow for him.
“Why?” Blaze asked
“Damn… hot…head.” Erik wheezed, “Someone… had to… save… your ass.”
“Ha ha ha ha,” Clyde laughed, “Just like the wimps I took lunch money from.”
Blaze got back up to his feet giving a piercing stare at Clyde, he then snarled, “You’re going to pay for that.”
“HA!” Clyde scoffed “How are you planning to do…”
Before he could finish his sentence Blaze’s fist met his jaw with lightning-speed, staggering back from the blow Clyde rubbed his lip to find blood at his fingertips. “Why you little…” he growled but he found himself being pummeled by the adrenaline-crazed Blaze whom doesn’t take kindly to those that harm his friend.
Krack! Clyde found himself missing a couple teeth.
Crunch! Then a couple ribs cracked from a forceful left hook to the chest.
Sok! One uppercut to Clyde’s jaw earned him a fat lip.
And with his patented right hook Blaze smashed Clyde’s sunglasses, and breaking his nose. Stunned from the rapid pummeling Clyde fell onto his back, Blaze looked at him and panted.
“Much less a meathead like you.”
“Hey Blaze!” A voice called, “We need to get Erik out of here pronto!”
Blaze turned around, “Lee!”
Lee grunted as he tried to help Erik up, “A little help… please?”
Blaze raced to Lee’s aid grunting as took Erik’s arm and lifted him up, “Why do we have to get out of here?”
“One word,” Lee smiled, “Blizzard.”

Chapter 8 Continued
Gary was at the center of the melee as Lee commanded the four’s pokemon to retreat from the area. Gary unclipped a pokeball from his belt and called out, “Iceman! Strut your stuff!”
The energy formed into a Glalie, “Glaaaa!” it growled
Gary looked at the ensuing melee with all the Rockets and Aquas fighting for supremacy in the streets. He then looked at Iceman, “When I run you unleash the biggest ‘Blizzard’ ever. Got that?”
“Glalie!” It nodded.
Gary ran as fast as he could as Iceman started a swirl of snow, wind and intense cold. All those within the wintry blast started to slow down and shiver to a crawl. Blaze and Lee looked stunned.
“Since when could Gary do that?” Blaze gasped
“You forget,” Erik chuckled, “Gary has a thing for ice-type pokemon.”
“Looks like they’re all slowing down.” Lee noted
With the deep freeze Rich as almost frozen in place shivering and shattering till there was nothing of his of his teeth but bare roots and gums.
“Cursed meddlers,” He cursed chattering, “My pokemon are too cold to fight.”
“Mine too,” Shelley whined again, shivering.
There was a stillness in the air as the Blizzard subsided, as Rockets and Aquas alike were trying their hardest to thaw out. Iceman fainted from the strain and Gary ran up to it rubbing it, “You did an awesome job Iceman.” And he recalled the Glalie but their troubles were only beginning the Rockets seemed itching for a fight.
“Team Rocket despises meddlers,” Bobbie snarled at Gary, “We’ll be more that glad to rid Vermilion of you four.”
“Wrong,” A voice boomed from the south, it was a convoy of trucks with the Team Magma logo. The convoy stopped between of Bobbie and Gary, that voice belonged to Jake Dumont who was sitting in the cab. The four were stunned to see Jake even more surprised to see him allied with Team Magma.
“What is going on here?” Blaze asked Lee who just shrugged.
“Beats me, but with Dumont around it can’t be good.”
“Tell me about it.” Blaze sighed.
Jake hopped from the truck to the front of Bobbie’s view, before Jason hopped out of the cab Gary ran back to his friends and watched events with them as they unfolded. Looking to the door of the trailer then snapped his fingers, a door swung open and two figures were thrown out and three Team Magma guards each pointing an assault rifle at the two.
Bobbie gaped at what he saw, “Butch and Cassidy?!”
“You Rockets are stupid little monkeys aren’t you?,” Jake snickered at them smugly, “You go into your enemies lair to declare you’re going to destroy them. Evidently Teams Aqua, Magma and I gave you and your leader too much credit.”
The rocket looked at Butch and Cassidy who were barely conscious, extremely dirty and dehydrated. “What did you do to them?!”
“Locked them in a crate on the way here. Caged them up for stupid mongrels they are.” Jake sneered, “Now we’re going to put them out of their misery.”
The guards loaded up the clips and prepared to fire on them but it was truly Jake whose finger was figuratively on the trigger. But he was withholding them sneering like he had another plan. Bobbie saw this and asked, “You want something don’t you?”
“Vermilion City is now Team Aqua and Magma’s, you will leave with these two rodents and report to you boss that Kanto and Johto is now ours.”
“And if we don’t comply?” Bobbie asked
Jake sighed, “Do I have to spell it out for you? We’ll mercifully kill two of your ‘finest’ agents. And I use ‘finest’ very loosely.”
Bobbie hesitated thinking of what was more important to Team Rocket’s goals, Clyde who just came to walked up to Bobbie, “Let them have this blasted city, we’ll be prepared for them next time.” Clyde whispered to him.
“We’ll drive them out soon enough,” Bobbie whispered back, he turned to Jake telling him, “Very well; we’ll leave but be warned Team Rocket will destroy you and your patrons.”
“Let them go,” Jake ordered the guards who picked up Butch and Cassidy and tossed them into the armed of four Rocket minions. As Butch was stumbling towards the minions, Jake pulled out a handgun and shot Butch’s knee; shattering it. Jake then gave a glaring look at Bobbie, “…And I don’t take attitudes from parasites like you. Be gone from my sight now!”
Bobbie growled, Clyde looked at Jake menacingly before Team Rocket retreated. They were not going to forget this day. Not by a long shot.
Jake and his contemporaries in Team Aqua and Team Magma focused on the four, especially Jake who glanced at Blaze his only ‘worthy’ (or close approximation of) rival and shot a cocky glance.
“Don’t think we’ve forgotten about you,” He sneered, “Blaze and his band of parasites.”
Erik growled, his hands tightening to fists, "I'll show you parasite" he spat angry, his voice low
"yeah, yeah jerk." Gary added
Jake didn’t even bat a glance at them, he just continued his speech, “Funny seeing you here as I was sent here to destroy the four of you.”
“What?” Blaze taunted, “You can’t take the heat from your competition.”
“Ha!” Jake scoffed then looking at the other three, “They don’t deserve the honor of being called my competition. Even you couldn’t stand up to my unequalled power.”
"Only because you cheated." Erik growled
Gary nodded, "Not a good enough trainer, gotta force drugs into your pokemon?"
Lee added, “That’s why you were banned from competition.”
“Because the weak-hearted fools in the Hoenn League feared my power,” Jake hissed, “As you all should cower before your superior!”
"When he comes along, I'll remember to do that." Gary quipped
Erik smirked, slapping him five, "Nice one man."
“Infidels!” Jake shrieked, “Is that a challenge?”
“You bet!” Blaze replied looking to Sizzle, “Sizzle?”
The Blaziken nodded and hissed at Jake.
"No." Erik said, "I'll do it... you have more important things to focus on."
Gary moved to speak, Erik cut him off, "No Gary, they'll need your ice types to cool things off, I'll be fine man."
The tall lanky one shook his head, "alright man"
“Ha, the chunky one dares to battle me. But alas, you’re not even worthy of licking my boots,” He sneered pulling a pokeball from his belt. “Go Seviper!”
The pokemon hissed at Erik as it slithered towards him.
"Chunky??" Erik said, "I'm big boned you hypocritical, abusing, gack-face."
He pulled out a pokeball, "Let him try and put a bite on Zeus, Go my Jolteon!!"
Zeus popped out of his pokeball rather majestically and growled, "JOLT" (“Who dares challenge the great lord of Lightning”)
“Attack!” Jake ordered, and the Seviper did as it was told but interesting it ignored Zeus and wrapped its coils around Erik and started to squeeze tightly; hissing in Erik’s ear.
“Oh no,” Lee gasped
“Dumont! You bastard!” Blaze snarled
“The world will be better off without this Poppin’ Fresh wannabe.” Jake laughed

Chapter 8 Continued
Erik just stood there, keeping his body relaxed as the coils tightened around him, "So, he's going to have you kill me?" he asked, he obviously wasn't talking to Dumont. Zeus turned around, not sure what to do, he couldn't attack because Erik would be hit too, it was too risky.
Gary tried to move forward, but stepped back, not sure what to do either.
Erik's face was calm though, "A question, before my oxygen runs out... are you willing to kill because you Are a murderer, or are you willing to kill because you're afraid of Dumont if you don't follow his orders?" he asked the Seviper.
"And what ever you do Zeus, do NOT attack until I say otherwise, and WHO I ask you to aim for."
Oddly the Seviper hesitated, perplexed by the question. It really didn’t want to kill Erik on its own accord; but memories of the abuse Jake gave it entered its mind and it had an answer. It couldn’t disobey Jake for fear of his trainer’s wrath. Then it continued to squeeze.
Erik stiffened, "Ah... I...see." he winced in pain, "w-whaaaahgh..." he grimaced, gasping for breath, "what...if..if I... take you in....?"
The Seviper wasn't interested and continued to squeeze, almost regretting it.
“This’ll require precision work,” Lee said calmly throwing a pokeball, “Go Sky Dive!”
“Eeeeeeee…” The Skarmory hissed as it made a loop in the air.
Lee then ordered it, “Aerial Ace attack!”
Sky Dive swooped at the Seviper and struck it in the head stunning it and loosening the coils to where Erik could escape.
Erik glared at Lee as he regained his breath, "Damn it... it was...only...scared of...Dumont." he collapsed to his knees. Pulling something from his pocket, he held it to the Seviper's nose, It was a berry, to heal it from the stunning, "here..." he said softly, coughing as his lungs hurt and burned.
“Seviper! Attack the Jolteon instead!” Jake yelled to it
The Seviper then slithered full throttle at Zeus.
"You see?" Lee asked, "It is loyal to Dumont regardless of fear. It would've squeezed you to death if I hadn't intervened."
Blaze snickered at Jake, “Wanna make this mano a mano?”
“Very well,” Jake snarled pulling out another pokeball, “Go Swampert!”
“Sizzle your turn,” Blaze said in his determined ‘battle voice’ and Sizzle jumped into action.
“Swampert! Hydro Pump attack!”
“Sizzle! Double Team him!”
“Blaze…” Sizzle hissed agreeing with Blaze, then he split into a circle of double team “clones” and Swampert’s Hydro Pumps kept on missing Sizzle.
“Inferior tactics!” Jake roared
“Aw, poor Jakey can’t find the target?” Blazed taunted
Erik smiled, "He couldn't find his ass with both hands and a road map." the 'poppin' fresh' wannabe taunted, "Probably still gets his ass wiped, or is ickle jakey-poo still in daidai's?"
Gary was cracking up
Erik then ordered Zeus , "Its SCARED, Zeus! Evade and use Thundershock to paralyze it!"
The Jolteon jumped to one side, firing off its ability with bright sparks.
Seviper stiffened a little bit but it didn’t seem to be paralyzed. Jake however snarled at the taunts, retorting with battle orders “Poison Fang! Poison the little mongrel!”
“Swampert, it’s a fire pokemon you dolt!” He yelled at the confused Swampert who was taking repeated Quick Attacks from Sizzle, “Use Earthquake!”
“Pert…” Swampert bellowed as it prepared the attack.
However Blaze and Erik had already had counterattacks planned.
“Sizzle,” Blaze called out, “Use Jump Kick to avoid the attack!”
Sizzle leapt in the air avoiding damage from the quaking ground, letting gravity do the rest is extended its leg and kicked the Swampert in the face and felling it.
Erik then ordered Zeus , "Its SCARED, Zeus! Evade and use Thundershock to paralyze it!"
"Agility! Then, Take Down!" Erik ordered
Zeus sped up running circles around the Seviper as it vainly used its tail to it Zeus who was already running so fast he was literally a blur. Then from the blur Zeus used its momentum in a tackle-type attack, knocking Seviper a full five meters back.
Blaze was looking back and complimented Erik, “Awesome job buddy! Jake makes it too easy eh?”
Erik smiled, "Thanks Blaze." he said, "Its only easy because all his pokemon's power come from drugs... its not like he’s a trainer or anything." he dug the verbal knife into Jake's back
“Rargh! You worthless pokemon get up and destroy them!” Jake screamed his temper raging more and more out of control.
Swampert and Seviper struggled to keep consciousness but resumed battle stances willing to go to any length to please their trainer.
Erik sighed, "damn it..." he swore, "...they're scared loyal..."
“Swampert use your Ice Beam,” Jake ordered, “Seviper! Sludge Bomb attack!”
The pokemon did as they were told Swampert fired his Ice Beam and Seviper spat out a rancid ball of sludge at Zeus.
“Flamethrower!” Blaze countered, Sizzle fired a flamethrower that struck the Ice Beam and the two countered each other out. Blaze then ordered, “Dynamic Punch!”
Energy glowed around Sizzle’s fist as he charged towards Swampert, when Sizzle struck him with the punch the energy exploded sending Swampert flying, landing at Jake’s feet fainted.
"Double Team, Agility!" Erik ordered, then sighed, "Zeus, use Shadow Ball"
“Jol!” Zeus barked dodging the Sludge Bomb, using his superior speed and the double team the Seviper turned its head around and around. When it got dizzy, Zeus fired the Shadow Ball.
It struck Seviper sending it flying to Jake’s feet on top of Swampert. Too tired to continue, it fainted from the exhausting battle.
“No!” Jason wailed as he recalled Swampert and Seviper, “I am the greatest, you cheated. Parasites like you always cheat!”
Erik walked up to Jake, determined and heavy footsteps, "How Dumont? How did I cheat??" he asked, his voice low and dangerous, definitely not the Erik Blaze and the others traveled with, "Answer me!" he demanded suddenly, his order sharp and barking.
That’s when the Team Magma guards grabbed Erik and tossed him back towards Blaze, Lee and Gary. Jake then ordered the devious grin returning to his face, “Destroy those four they are vastly outnumbered.”
Then Team Magma surrounded the four who were outnumbered 20 to 1 each.
“Too scared to fight us yourself again eh? Jake.” Blaze told Jake, “So bloody typical of you!”
"Hey... Blaze..." he looked at his friend, but shot a smile back at Lee, "...should i call out... you know, The Guardian of the Sea?"
“Ha!” Jake scoffed…again, “You’d have to be a complete moron to fall for that!”
Rich and Shelley growled both having fallen for that in the forest last night.
The mob closed in on them until an outside force yelled, “Thunderbolt!”
An Electabuzz shot a thunderbolt at the outer crowd allowing the four to break through the mob as hundreds of trainers surrounded Team Aqua and Team Magma. Running as fast as he could Blaze ran into, “Lt. Surge?!”
“Blaze,” Lt. Surge greeted, “You wouldn’t think that I’d allow Vermilion to be destroyed by them wouldn’t you?”
“Heh”, Lee chuckled, “I suppose not.”
Erik sighed, sweatdropping "Well, I really do have a 20 ft blood red Mantine...if that makes you feel better??" he cleared his throat, he blinked at the huge amount of trainers that surrounded them, some were from the gym, others were travelers like themselves...lots of travelers.
“How?!” Jake gasped, “How come there are so many?!”
“Didn’t you hear baby?” Lt. Surge replied, “The St. Anne II is in port, every trainer from Kanto is in Vermilion!”
“It’s not fair!” Jake cried out.
"Cheap Shot!!!" Erik called out, tossing his rock filled pokeball at Dumont's head, "That’s for calling me Poppin Fresh!"
“OW!” Jake whined.
“Nice shot,” Lt. Surge snickered, “Look, you four have done enough. You can go escape and the other trainers and I finish them off.”
“Sounds good to me,” Blaze said looking at the others.
Erik shook his head, "No, I'm not running. He's insulted me for the last time and he abuses his pokemon... That's Jake Dumont!!"
"Hoenn's shameful secret" Gary added
"Erik!" Lee protested, "Lt. Surge has everything in control."
"Besides," Blaze added, "I'll take care of him when the time comes."
Erik looked at Lee, frowning, he inhaled and suddenly collapsed to his knees, clutching his side in pain. Gary was by his side in an instant
"There's a hospital that was undamaged." Lt. Surge told them, "It's just up the street."
Blaze and Lee each took one of Erik's arms and helped him to his feet, "Thanks Lt. Surge," Lee said, "Good luck."
Erik groaned in protest, but that was about it.
Gary helped support Lee's side, as Ben was the strongest out of them... and Erik WAS a tad on the hefty side. Erik's tall friend was worried, suddenly collapsing like that, he hoped there was no serious damage. Together the three helped Erik to the hospital where he could get treatment.

Chapter 8 Continued
Later that night...
“…and now the battle in Vermilion City is over with 31 members of Team Aqua and Team Magma in custody but no administrators have been apprehended nor has disqualified pokemon trainer Jake Dumont….” The radio in the hospital waiting room read has the cable television had been knocked out by the battle.
“Oh great!” Blaze ranted; infuriated by the news, “The little sleaze escapes arrest!”
Lee trying to find the silver lining told him, “At least you still can take him down yourself. So why not relax and sit until Erik comes back…”
Gary frowned, "Damn it, its not fair that the little troll escapes again!!!" he raised his voice, "at least Erik gave him a head wound."
Lee snickered, "Now that was funny."
Gary giggled as well, "Yeah, little twerp deserved it too I say"
"And so much more..." Erik said as he was rolled out in a wheel chair, a grimace on his face as he inhaled to deeply
"How long do you have to be in that thing?" Lee asked
"Its hospital regulations..." Erik blushed, "They had to wrap my arm actually, my....radius was cracked." he explained, holding up a cast, "and my ribs were severely bruised..."
"The wheelchair doofus." Gary said
Erik exhaled nastily as he cast Gary a glance, "its hospital regs, sorry, forgot to tell you... its just till I'm outside the hospital. Can't take the chance of me falling down and hurting myself worse and suing the hospital..." he shrugged, "Its no big, besides, I don't want to walk just yet..."
"Fine." Blaze quietly said; barely containing his disappointment, "We leave tomorrow."
Then he left the hospital to go to the pokecenter.
Erik wheeled after him, Gary and Lee following, "Hey, Hey, wait up blast it!" he called after his hot headed friend
Blaze turned around "What?!"
"What’s the deal??" Erik said, "Sorry I got hurt!"
"Jake Dumont is still out there," Blaze snarled then picking up the pace. Gaining more ground than Erik could wheel.
Lee tried to quietly explain, "Blaze is really upset that Jake escaped from the authorities."
"And we aren't??" Erik wheeled as fast as he could, which was pretty fast actually as he also pushed himself with his feet and he had pretty powerful legs, "The least you could do is friggin relax!! God only knows when we'll see Dumont again..."
"Too soon if you ask me..." Gary quipped
Erik quietly agreed, earning a smile from his friend
But Blaze wasn't in the mood for talking the sooner he gets a night's rest the sooner he can get back on the road hunting down Dumont. Besides a nurse from the hospital ran up to Erik and grabbed his wheelchair. "Ah ah ah," She said, "We're keeping you overnight."
Erik sighed, "alright..." he smiled, "believe it or not, if you're not on a special diet, hospital food rocks." he smiled
It also helped the nurses he dealt with were rather cute too. The nursed wheeled him back leaving Gary and Lee alone.
Gary murmured, "Lucky."
“So…” Lee asked, “What do we do next?”
Gary shrugged, "Follow Blaze and get some sleep, maybe keep him from going off on his own?"
"Sounds good to me," Lee replied.
Gary nodded, and with Lee, walked to the pokemon center to keep Blaze out of trouble. In the stillness of the night the spectre of Jake Dumont still lingered; now the rules have change and now the four are targets in the escalating war bet Team Rocket and Teams Aqua and Magma.

Intermission 3: Change of Plans
The remaining Team Aqua and Magma members were holing up in an abandoned laboratory, dodging the police and civic-minded trainers. In the meantime trying to come up with a new plan of action.
“Boss,” Jason said to boss, “The attack was a total disaster. Most of our men were arrested and…”
“Silence,” Maxie commanded as he pressed a button on his keyboard, “You remember when we tried to utilize the meteorite to bring Mt. Chimney into activity again.”
“Our scientists have improved the design and have the blueprints which I’m transmitting as well was the parts needed and where you can find them in Kanto.”
“Then what do we do with the machine once it’s finished boss?” Jason asked.
“Take it to Cinnabar Island, and watch the destruction of Kanto from the shelter on the Seafoam Islands. Remember Jason: Don’t mess this mission up or it’s your head.”
“I understand boss.” Jason nodded. Maxie then signed up and the Team Magma administrator sighed, “I better not.”
After printing out the blueprints he called Rich into another room with Jake tagging along (much to their chagrin). Jason laid out the plans for the machine explaining in detail.
“So we need some parts from Silph Co. in Saffron City. Also we’ll need the Technical Machine ‘Fissure’.”
“And only Giovanni has that TM.” Rich said, “So who’ll head that operation?”
“I will, my Alakazam can teleport us into Giovanni’s offices in Celadon City.” Jason explained.
“So that leaves me with the Saffron mission.” Rich looked at the layout of Silph Co. but one thing bothered him, “What if Blaze and his loser friends decide to crash our party?”
Jake then spoke with his ever-arrogant expression, “Leave him to me.”
Rich and Jason rolled their eyes, hardly believing Jake was that delusional that he’d take another go at Blaze.
“Didn’t you have enough humiliation?” Jason scoffed, “I don’t see why Maxie and Archie wanted you to accompany us on this mission.”
Rich agreed, “What makes you think you can beat Blaze again.”
Jake only gave them an evil grin, “Who said I was going to fight Blaze?”
Now this got both administrators attention and curiosity.
“You see, some time ago I met another trainer and enemy of Blaze. His name is David; the twin brother of Gary Winter or should I say Gary Martin…” Jake explained
Jason gapped in shock being familiar with the Martin family name, “Wait you mean he’s the son of the great fire trainer of Sootopolis?”
“Silence!” Jake snapped, then continued his tirade, “A few years ago Blaze defeated Steven Martin while David watched. Furious with how a young upstart defeated the family’s greatest trainer; he swore revenge on Blaze at all costs.”
“And how does this fit in with your plan?” Rich asked
“I happen to know that David’s in Celadon City as is Blaze’s twin Martin.” Jake snickered, “What if I had David arrange a little ‘crisis’ for the St. Helens family?”
Rich and Jason gave some thought and conversed with each other over the plan.
“You know Rich,” Jason whispered, “It could make our job much easier if we split their little group into two. Would give us a tactical advantage; with Erik injured and Lee a pacifist. This should make our mission infinitely easier.”
Rich nodded, “And if we can find a way to keep them separated as long as possible this plan could go even more smoothly.”
Both turned to Jake then Rich told him, “Very well, call your friend and make the arrangements.”
Jake’s snicker turned into malevolent and roaring laughter, “Excellent, if we take out the lead domino: the rest shall fall!”
Three Days Later
Silence reigned at the Vermilion City Pokecenter as all the trainers on hand were sound asleep in the guest rooms. In the room our heroes were in, Erik and Lee were sound asleep but Gary and Blaze? Gary went AWOL and Blaze is still wake awake staring at the ceiling.
As most would attest; patience and teamwork were virtues lost on the fiery trainer. He was grew tired of waiting of wait for Erik to heal hour by hour then eventually minute by minute.
“Team Aqua and Team Magma must be halfway to Saffron by now.” Blaze thought to himself, “And here I am sitting on my butt and letting Jake and his little friends run.”
He knew it was no fault of him or his friends that Erik was injured in that battle. But rest assured Blaze would leap at any opportunity to leave the city if the chance ever came up. Fate rewarded his wished when his pokenav rang, scurrying to get it before Lee or Erik could wake up. He activated the phone function on it and whispered, “Hello?”
A digitally altered voice on the phone got straight to business as it spoke, “I have your brother Martin held hostage. If you want him to live; go to the roof of Celadon Towers at 3:00 PM tomorrow. There we shall engage in a pokemon battle. My family’s honor shall be restored upon your defeat.
Oh yes, and come alone or else he dies.”
Before Blaze could respond the voice hung up. “Family honor?” he groaned, “What did I do to that guy’s family…? Whoever he is.”
Without further delay Blaze got dressed up and packed his bags, not willing to take a chance with his brother’s life. Because the voice instructed him to come alone, Blaze never even bothered to inform Lee or Erik he was leaving for Celadon.
“They’ll only slow me down,” He grumbled passing the bathroom and turning to the lobby.
The bathroom door then opened and Gary looked up and down the hallway, “I swear I heard someone pass by and if I didn’t know any better; I’d say it was Blaze.”
He only shrugged as his Mr. Mime darted out with a bowl of water and some shaving cream. “Mime!” It whined.
“Don’t worry we can do it now if you want,” Gary told it pulling a Pidgeot feather from his pajama pocket, “They may be classics. But that doesn’t make them any less fun.”
Blaze was almost out of the lobby when he was stopped by Nurse Joy who called out with an authoritative “Stop!”
The trainer having a respect for the Nurse Joys stopped, letting her approach him. “Where do you think you’re going at the time of night?” She asked pointing at the Meowth clock that read “4:37”
“I have a family emergency that can’t wait Nurse Joy,” Blaze explained handing her a note, “Can you give this to the trainers in Guest Room ‘E’? It will explain everything.”
Nurse Joy took it and sighed, “All right, but be careful out there.”
Blaze smirked smugly and walk out of the Pokecenter and called out his flygon Concorde.
“Guah!” It yawned
“Sorry or waking you up this early Con.” Blaze told him, “But Martin’s in danger and I need a ride to Celadon City.”
Concorde eyes widened and he hunched down for Blaze to climb onto him. Once on Blaze said to him, “Onward to Celadon City.” And with that Concord lifted off and flew northwest to Celadon City where a danger waited for Blaze… and one of his friends.

Chapter 9: My Brothers Keeper
The next sun rise after Blaze’s departure from the Vermilion Pokecenter; Gary, Erik and Lee searched the facility top to bottom with no sign of the fiery-tempered trainer. Gary came back into Guest Room ‘E’ where Erik was packing up as if he was intending to follow Ben despite his condition. Lee was sitting on the bed meditating.
“It’s official.” Gary sighed, “Blaze is not here. Any luck with the psychic?”
Erik stopped packing his stuff and shook his head, “All he’s getting is more premonitions about trouble in Saffron.”
“Cripes.” Gary cursed getting to packing his stuff, “Will we ever find Blaze?”
“Not by the signals I’m getting,” Lee replied snapping out his the trance, “All I’m getting is impending danger in Saffron City. I’m sorry but we can’t ignore it.”
“Dammit Lee, Blaze is out there doing who knows what. We’ll find him first and then go to Saffron.”
Lee countered with, “By then it will be too late!”
Then he added with a resentful remark, “Who made you boss anyway?”
“Am I interrupting anything,” Nurse Joy interjected walking in with the note Blaze left.
“No, just interrupting Erik and Lee duke it out like Tyson and Hollyfield,” Gary joked, “With twice as much ear biting!”
Erik and Lee let out a collective groan with Erik growling, “If only I had a Magikarp to whack him on the head with…”
Nurse Joy answered with a bewildered, “Oh, Your friend asked me to give you this note .”
Gary snatched the note; blurting out, “Yoink.”
Quickly he gave it a swift read over then read it out.
“Dear Erik, Gary and Lee
I’m sorry I had to run out on you last night but I got a call from a stranger who claimed he was holding Marty against his will. I will be in Celadon City, but I urge you all to stay away. If he knows that any of you are coming, Marty’s life will be in serious danger. Hope you all can contact me as soon as possible. Again I apologize for leaving you like this.
See You Soon
-Ben “Blaze” St. Helens”
There was an awkward pause in the room this all sounded like a trap and in Erik’s mind he couldn’t just leave Blaze alone.
“Someone has to go to Celadon City even if it’s against Blaze’s wishes.” Erik proposed.
“I say it should be Gary. Erik; you and I should go to Saffron if my premonition is accurate.” Lee then said almost as soon as the last word rolled off Erik’s lips. That brought a puzzled look from both Gary and Erik. Lee sighed and explained, “Look I didn’t get the precise lock on Ben that I was hoping for but I detected an aura that concerns you Gary.”
“Oh? Why?” asked Gary
“I don’t know.” Lee told him, “But the answer lies Celadon City.”
It was almost high one in the afternoon in Celadon City; on the outskirts at a cheap motel Blaze was sleeping soundly even as there was a ruckus coming from all the other rooms. Concorde was too tuckered out from the flight so Blaze couldn’t get to the city center so here he was. Deluge was on the bed beside Blaze, looking at the time so he nudged his trainer a little.
“Rai? Rai rai rai!”
Blaze stirred a little grunting, “Five more minutes. That’s all I ask.”
Being as stubborn and persistent as Blaze, Deluge’s cheeks sparked and the Raichu gave his trainer a nice little Thundershock as a wake-up call.
“Damnation!” Blaze cursed as the shock flipped him off the bed. His head popped up and saw the time on the alarm clock, “Deluge?! Why didn’t you tell me it was one in the afternoon?!”
Deluge shrugged and sighed, “Raiiiii…”
Blaze hastily put on his shirt and pack all his stuff and checked out of the motel as fast as fate would allow him. Calling out Concorde again, Deluge jumped on his back as Blaze saddled in and ordered, “To Celadon Towers, Concorde.”
Without hesitation Concorde took off, the trip was pretty silent until Blaze had a quick thought, “Deluge, Concorde. Jake couldn’t be behind this as I would first suspected.”
Getting both of their attention he continued, “I know he had something to do with this. But you know Jake he can’t catch a zigzagoon, or kidnap a person.”
“But who else would hate me so much that they would go kidnap my brother?”
Neither Deluge or Concorde could think of anybody who would do that so they shook their heads. Then Celadon Towers, the tallest residential building in the city was coming up fast and the only way they could get to the top was a sharp arc upwards. So Blaze coiled one arm around Deluge and another one around Concorde’s neck as the flygon increased his speed upwards for another hundred meters before dipping below onto the roof. Blaze and Deluge hopped off and Blaze patted Concorde on the head…
“Another perfect landing Con…” He complimented
Concorde sheepishly blushed, “Guah.”
Blaze then looked around and looked at his watch, “3:00 PM as the guy on the phone said, where is Marty!”
“Gon!” Concorde called out pointing to a transformer with Marty tied to it.
Blaze ran to his brother and saw him unconscious, “Still breathing so that must mean he was sedated. But who did this to you Marty?”
“I did,” a voice replied, a vaguely familiar one.
“I know that voice,” Blaze said quickly turning around and confronting Marty’s captor, “David Martin of Sootopolis!”
“How nice of you to remember me.” The other trainer replied, “I remember you well, you defeated my father. He was the greatest fire-trainer in all of Hoenn.”
“If this is about that David,” Blaze scowled, “Winning and losing is a normal part of training, there is now need to bring my brother into this you sick bastard!”
“Temper, temper!” David cooed in a taunting tone, “After you, a young upstart trainer beat my dad, you left him a broken man. No longer does he accept challenges; he just sits there like an empty shell devoid of what make him so proud.”
“If you and your dad want pity about his bruised ego from me.” Blaze said the fires of anger stoking in his eyes, “You aren’t getting it! He should accept his loss like a real trainer!”
“You aren’t in any position to call yourself a trainer!” David exclaimed then pointed an accusing finger at Blaze, “A young trainer like you never should’ve defeated a master like my father.”
“Should’ve, would’ve, could’ve.” Blaze scoffed, “What do you plan to do about it?”
“To restore my family honor,” David replied taking a pokeball from his belt, “First I’ll defeat you in battle, then I shall slay you.”
“If that’s a challenge,” Blaze growled, “Bring it on David!”

Chapter 9 continued
David threw the pokeball into the air, it opened and the pokemon inside was one Blaze was not familiar with. So he took out his pokedex and pointed at the eevee-like pokemon.
POKEDEX ENTRY –[ Chloreon – "The Moss Pokemon"- "A newly-discovered evolution of Eevee when exposed to the Leaf Stone. Chloreon prefers to live in temperate forests; leaving this pokemon in arid climates can rapidly dehydrate and weaken this pokemon.]-
"Chlor!" It growled
Blaze whistled and Concorde fluttered his way to Blaze, hovering opposite of Chloreon and hissing at the moss pokemon.
"Concorde! Flamethrower attack!"
"Chloreon, counter with Double Team!"
The flames couldn’t reach Chloreon as its speed allowed it to confuse Concorde and before the flygon could land a flamethrower on Chloreon. David was already barking his next orders.
"Grab it with your Frenzy Plant Chloreon!"
From under the clover-like collar and moss-like fur; vines shot out and whipped and grabbed Concorde. Concorde valiantly struggled against Chloreon’s tendrils. Blaze was stuck wondering of what to do next.
"Wait, Concord’s still hovering," Blaze noticed, "That gives me an idea."
Blaze eyed Concorde, "Fly up and give that Chloreon no footing!"
"Guah!" Concorde replied lifting off.
With Chloreon having Concorde tangled up in it’s vines, it was lifted off as well Concorde stopped leaving Chloreon dangling about 4 or five feet in the air.
"Now spin it!" Blaze ordered.
The flygon then started to spin rapidly, even creating a small vortex that kicked up and dust and loose pieces of paper. Chloreon tried its hardest to cling onto Concorde but with every revolution its dizziness increased and its grip loosened. It took 15 seconds for Chloreon to release Concorde, sending it flying back to the roof.
With Chloreon disoriented Blaze saw an opportunity to strike.
"Finish it off with Aerial Ace"
Concorde flew in for the victory gracefully diving at Chloreon and striking the final blow KO-ing it. David recalled it and only scoffed at Concorde’s win.
Blaze sent Concorde back to his pokeball and smirked at David, "News flash David, I’ve been in this game for seven years."
"Whatever," David snorted unclipping another pokeball and tossing it, "Go Flareon!"
"Go Sizzle!" Blaze countered
"Ken…" Sizzle hissed staring down at the Flareon.
“It’s been awhile since I fought a Flareon,” Blaze said to himself pulling out his Pokedex again, “Hold it off with your slash attack.”
Sizzle started wailing on Flareon, long enough for Blaze to come up with a strategy.
POKEDEX AMMENDIUM –[ Among the current known evolutions Flareon in the strongest in terms of physical strength though its defense is comparatively low. A warning to fire trainers, fire-type attacks will revitalize Flareon’s health in battle.]-
“Flareon! Hyper Beam attack!”
Orange energy welled in Flareon’s mouth and it fired the hyper beam. An attack so powerful it knocked Sizzle halfway across the roof and the recoil sent Flareon backwards. Slamming Sizzle into the transformer barely missed Marty.
“Yes!” David cheered, “Like shooting Magikarp in a barrel!”
“Eeeeeen.” Sizzle groaned, weakened but still able to battle.
“I must say I must thank you David.” Blaze snickered
Flareon panted heavily, still recovering from the hyper beam was all too vulnerable to a reprisal from its opponent.
Sizzle’s wrists burst into flames as it rushed at Flareon and grabbed it, flipped over and slammed it into the floor fainting Flareon. An apparent critical hit.
“Lucky,” Blaze sighed. He then sneered at David, “Had you remembered that reversal’s power increases as a pokemon’s energy decreases.”
“Hmmm… perhaps I underestimated you. Flareon return!” David said, “But that still doesn’t change the fact you must be defeated. Go Vaporeon!”
Blaze recalled Sizzle, “Thanks for staying in there for me. That deserves a good rest.”
He was about to call out Deep End but a pokeball dropped from the sky across Vaporeon. From it a tyranitar emerged and looked threateningly onto the much-smaller Vaporeon that quivered in its presence. Blaze instantly recognized the markings.
“What in the world?! That’s Gary’s tyranitar!”
He then looked up to see Gary (on the back of a pidgeot) descending from the sky, the prankster trainer looked his brother dead in the eyes when he dismounted.
“I always knew you were an indignant little suck up David,” Gary mocked, “But kidnapping that’s a new low even for you.”
“Stay out of matters that don’t concern you Gary.” David threatened, “Or I’ll have to force you out of my way!”
“If this concerns Blaze then it concerns me too. He’s my friend and I won’t abandon him.” Gary answered
Blaze meanwhile didn’t know whether to be angry at Gary for following him to Celadon when he expressly told him not to. Or whether to be flattered because Gary wanted to help him.
“So be it Gary,” David lowly replied, “Finally we can put to rest the question which one of us is the better trainer…”

Chapter 9 continued...
The tyranitar let out bellowing roar that mimicked that of Godzilla’s. The very sound sent shivers down the vaporeon’s spine.
“Remember Vaporeon!” David assured him, “He’s part rock type, you’re water type. It’ll take more than some flimsy roar to beat you.”
“I’m insulted.” Gary scoff, trying his best to mimic an indignant manner, “You know how many hours I put into teaching him that roar?”
“So sore-ee brother.” David mocked , “Vaporeon attack with Hydro Pump!”
“Gojira, Hyper Beam attack pronto!”
The jet stream of water collided with the hyper beam resulting in a blast scattering water droplets everywhere. Not missing a beat; Gojira thrashed about trying to strike at Vaporeon who kept dodging the lumbering giant. It fired a Hydro Pump at Gojira sending the tyranitar flying backwards. Gary ran to beside him..
“Come on Gojira,” Gary told him giving all the encouragement he could muster, “Give that tight-ass a good thrashing!”
“Heh,” David jeered, “Vaporeon! Finish that oaf with another Hydro Pump.
“Quick! Use Protect!” Gary ordered
Promptly Gojira surrounded itself with a force field that absorbed Vaporeon’s attack.
“Try Dynamic Punch!”
White energy swirled around the tyrantiar’s fist and Gojira punch the vaporeon with its explosive power. Disoriented and confused Vaporeon couldn’t retaliate so Gary saw his chance to best his brother.
“Finish it off Gojira!” He yelled, “Iron Tail!”
Covered with silver-white energy Gojira swung his tail at Vaporeon hitting it straight in the kisser and tossing it back at David’s feet.
“Impossible!” He cried in disbelief.
“Believe it David,” Gary cheered, “I beat you!”
“I still have three pokemon left and I’ll beat you with them if I have to!”
“But I don’t think you could beat all three of us,” Ben called walking in with Marty along side him, “Marty and I were just getting started.”
David looked onto the three of them, all ready to battle. He recalled his Vaporeon and growled, “You may have won this time but I swear I’ll make you all pay for this defeat.”
Angrily he marched down the stairs and (for now) out of their lives. Gary looked to blaze and bowed his head.
“Sorry, I went against your wishes Ben but Lee told me I had to come here and…”
“Don’t be.” Blaze interrupted, “It all worked out for the best.”
“Anyway how did Marty recover from those sedatives?”
A gloom walked up beside Marty who smiled as he replied to Gary’s question, “Ben released Doomin here and you know the scent a gloom can make. Could wake up a hibernating slaking.”
“And then I had the ropes cut by Reaper and well, your tyranitar had already beaten David’s vaporeon,” Blaze continued, “As much as I like this conversation, let’s continue on ground level and I think our pokemon can use a recharge.”
Gary and Marty seemed to agree then recalled their pokemon and joined him down the stairs.
After giving their pokemon a much-needed recharge at the Celadon Pokecenter, the trio walked to an old, rustic city street with a row of outdoor cafes of which the chose to dine at the Celadon Garden Café. Exchanging stories about their recent adventures Blaze seemed to push a subject, even his twin would anticipate.
“Seeing anyone Marty?”
Marty blushed but sheepishly admitted, “There is this one girl…”
“Ooooooh” Gary murmured like a schoolboy and got elbowed by Blaze who replied. “Continue on.”
“She’s one of Erika (the Gym Leader’s) pupils and we share the same interest in the raising of and care of grass-types.” Marty continued his voice getting softer, “She’s so loving and sweet, I want to stay here and well… be with her.”
“My brother in love,” Blaze teased, “Does this love have a name?”
“Yeah,” Marty replied, “It’s Courtney.”
“Oh cripes,” Gary then yelled out of nowhere.
Blaze looked at him, “What?!”
“I can’t reach Erik or Lee on my cell.” Gary said
“They know which city we’re in right?”
“Well we can do some sightseeing while we’re here.” Blaze told him, looking to Marty he asked, “Is the Gym Leader taking challenges today Marty?”
“Yeah,” Marty answered, “And you can meet Courtney too.”
“Then what do you say Gary? Erik and Lee can wait, let’s get us another Kanto badge.”
“Hell yeah,” Gary roared
Both got up and were about to leave the café until Marty had to remind them, “Eh? Guys?” Getting their attention he continued, “Our orders have yet to come in yet.” A bit red in the face the overly-anxious Blaze and Gary scurried back to their seats.
“Don’t worry,” He nervously assured them, “We have enough time.”

Chapter 10: The Saffron Job
Special Thanks to Erik, again
Lee and Erik landed in Saffron only a short distance from the Silph Co. tower, of course some plainclothes Team Aqua members saw the two and pulled out their radios.
“Boss, the psychic and the big guy are here.”
Rich was at a small air field and over the plans to raid Silph Co. at the time. He wasn’t surprised by their arrival, “Leave them be right now,” He instructed, “I’ll have our troubleshooter take care of it understood?”
“Understood chief,” They replied obediently, “Over and out.”
Rich turned from the radio and walked into the conference room where a few of his elites and Jake were waiting for his return.
“It’s confirmed.” he announced, “Erik Wyrven and Lee Atone are in Saffron as expected. You’re going to take care of them Jake.”
“Wyrven was lucky because Blaze was with him the last time.” Jake said sneering at the two with his typical ‘superior’ attitude, “And Atone’s a pacifist, I don’t expect him to be much trouble.”
“Good we need some sort of diversion so our agents can enter the Silph Co. building from the roof and various exits on the ground floor. Our target’s on the 16th floor where Silph Co. developing a generator for increasing a pokemon’s power.”
“But Boss, wouldn’t something like that be banned from the pokemon leagues?”
“It’s not for competition you dolt!” Rich snapped back, “It’s for pokemon that do labor. This is supposed to maximize their efficiency.”
He the pulled our a copy of the blue prints, laying them out.
“From our source the generator itself is not complete however all the parts Team Magma asked us to get are finished and stored in a lab on the aforementioned 16th floor. Jerry your porygon will be our ticket in and out okay?”
Jerry nodded, rolling the porygon’s pokeball in his palm.
“Then we nab the parts and get out, if Jake’s distraction works no one will know we even came in.”
“Wait,” Shelley said, “Aren’t there scientists that run the labs up there. What about them.”
Rich only address her concern with a chilling and devious smile, “We have ways to ensure their silence. We move out in ten minutes got it?”
The others nodded and Rich motioned, “Dismissed.”
Erik and Lee were wandering the streets, coming out of a fast food restaurant. Going nowhere they stopped at a bench and sat on it.
“So where to next?” Erik asked before swallowing his hamburger.
“The Silph Co. tower, that’s where my vision took me.” Lee said.
“How sure are you?”
Lee looked back at Erik, “Who’s the psychic here?”
“Touché” Erik smirked, then finished off his hamburger as Lee ate his wrap pulling out his Pokenav he looked to see any information on Silph Co. his query was answered with.
“The Silph Company of Saffron City is the leading manufacturer and retailer of pokemon related products in the Kanto and Johto regions. The company owns many of the most sophisticated laboratories centered towards Pokemon research.
See Also: Master Ball, Silph Scope”
Erik looked at the information and hummed, “I could see why someone would want to attack Silph Co. Them possessing the most advanced pokemon-related technology on the planet.”
Lee finished his wrap and cleaned his hand with the napkin, “Makes sense that Team Aqua or Team Magma would do so.”
“Did you get the feeling that they organized this and Marty’s kidnapping to separate the group?” Erik asked a shiver now racing down his spine, “I’m just getting that signal.”
“Perhaps.” Lee said, then paused for a second, “I think this is just the smaller piece of a bigger puzzle. Let’s go.”
Walking into the lobby Erik and Lee were both amazed at the lavishly decorated interior with marble floors and columns. Exquisite paintings of legendary pokemon lined the walls.
Erik whistled, “Swanky place.”
Lee nodded but was more captivated at the fountain, “Look at that!” he gasped
In the center of the lobby was a giant fountain, carved out to resemble the sea guardian Lugia himself with the water spouting out of its mouth and into the basin below. On the other side of the fountain was a tour group waiting for the guide to come in.
“Over there,” Erik pointed, “That’s our way in!”
Meanwhile in a small corner of the lobby Jake was reading the Saffron Sun keeping an eye on the two once in a while. On the radio he reported.
“They’re joining up with the tour group as expected. Going to pursue.”
Jake gestured the four other grunts took a stairway to the second floor and readied their next move.
On the roof a helicopter landed on the pad, usually reserved for the president’s personal chopper. But this one was a pain green helicopter and it crew adorned in black. The leader pointed to a small hangar and the group scurried pointing to the lock. The female took out a small detonator and a small glob of C4 and shoved it into the keyhole. She quickly moved out of the way and blew the lock.
The men pushed open the doors and inside the hangar was the service elevator.
“Jerry!” The leader yelled out pulling of his mask revealing Rich’s face, “Find a security port.”
“On it sir.” Jerry replied scanning the hangar for a security port.
Rich then pressed the button on his watch, “Group Beta, this is Group Alpha. “Operation Snatch” begins in three minutes.”
The tour group moved onto the second floor where the guide stopped them in front of a displaying with a pokeball on a silver pedestal.
“Around three years ago Silph developed a pokeball that would catch any pokemon no matter how powerful. Rumors even say this pokeball could even catch a legendary pokemon. Any questions.”
A trainer beside Erik held up his hand, “Why haven’t I seen this pokeball on the market.”
“Excellent question.” The guide replied, them moved to answer his question, “Because of potential losses in wild pokemon this pokeball is manufactured in small quantities and only given out as prizes through contests and lotteries. Moving on…”
“So when are the creeps in your vision going to show up?” Erik whispered
“Soon,” Lee replied, “They were in this very room.”
“Now,” The guide began but was interrupted by the alarms and the intercom.
“Intruder Alert! Security lockdown procedures initiating!”
The guide then lead the group to the door but when she tired to open them they were locked after trying making several futile tries she gave up and sighed, “I guess it’s a glitch in the security software.”
A voice echoed from the other end of the museum, “Oh, this is no glitch miss.”
The guide turned around and asked, “Who’s there?”
“Jake Dumont,” The voice answered, both Erik and Lee hissed at that news, “And I’m here to make Erik Wyrven and Lee Atone suffer another defeat like the one at Vermilion.”
04-14-2004, 11:34 PM
Chapter 10 continued...
In utter disbelief Erik yelled, "And just HOW do you figure THAT????
"Because I never lose!"
"Yes you do" Erik countered, "Blaze and I won back in Vermilion, how the hell did you figure YOU won??"
"I... never... lose... unlike lower trainers like yourself."
Erik gave a sideways glance towards Jake, "The only thing I'm lower than you on, is the tax bracket... and the ass-hole-meter pally boy."
"Don't tell me you're going to battle him." Lee whispered, "You know how I feel about it. I won't allow myself to succumb to his taunts."
Erik closed his eyes, "Yes well, unfortunately I have a temper... and I don't like being insulted. There is more than one way to battle." he whispered back
"Well I'm not saying you can't." Lee countered.
"Are you 'ladies' finished?" Jake taunted, "The security doors are locked and you're not leaving until you face me."
Erik grimaced, "You did not just insult my sex...." Erik never really gave him time to answer because he grabbed a nearby pipe and brandished it like a sword as he charged the *******, screaming, "BAAAANZAAAAI!!!"
The scientists on the 16th floor were pretty antsy, a security lockdown means that someone invaded the building and with the experimental technologies here that means millions, possibly billion of dollars in research stolen not to mention the useful applications would fall into someone else’s plans.
“Security Lockdown?! That hasn’t happened in over 5 years!” One said in near-panic.
“I know it could be Team Rocket or one of those new-fangled teams that are popping up everywhere.” Another added.
Then they heard the service elevator running, this didn’t go down well with them. “Here they come! Call security!”
The Scientist quickly ran to the phone, the service elevator door opened and two snorunts jumped out. Their trainers ordering “Ice Beam!”
“This is Dr. Johnson, they’re on…” The frenzied scientist said before the ice beam hit him, the man scream in writhing agony as his innards froze inside out. His partner didn’t stand a chance either.
“Damn it all.” Rich cursed walking into the lab, “One of the lab coats called security. Jerry will they be able to make it through?”
“I’ll have Trace change the security codes that should buy us a few minutes.” Jerry replied.
Rich nodded then ordered the other three, “We go to the lab down the hall and grab those parted got it?”
“Got it.” They replied like unthinking robots.
Remaining calm, Jake swung his fist upwards at Erik's jaw connecting and sending Erik staggering backwards. "My intellect is superior."
Erik tripped him with a leg sweep, "Yeah well, I play more fighting games *******."
Erik got up quickly, "Come Jake, lets see how you fair when you don't have pokemon to beat up because You failed"
Jake thrust his knee into Erik's gut, "How about a rematch? 2 on 2 pokemon battle."
Erik had caught it and grabbed his leg, swing Jake off his other foot and spinning him off to smack against the wall, "I said no, Jake, I'm not allowing you to make them fight. This battle is just you and me. Think you can take it?"
Lee had never really seen Erik this mad before
"So you're 'painfully' admitting your pokemon can't stand up to mine?"
Erik sighed, "No, I'm saying I won't let you use them as living shields to hide behind. God you're such as ******* and a coward"
"Admit it. You're too weak and helpless, even Blaze put up more of a fight than you ever could."
Erik growled, "I am my own person Jake, not to be measured to the standards of others. Now, kindly... SHUT THE F*** UP!!" Erik, with all his force, slammed his fist into Jake's nose.
Jake fell backwards and laughed so hard and eerily even the Team Aqua grunts were confused by his rather erratic behavior. Though he was just buying time for the group upstairs.
Erik leapt on him and continued to punch him, intent on breaking the bastards nose
"Stop laughing at me damn it!!! Stop it!!!" Erik cried out in anger
Team Aqua was tearing the lab apart with no sigh of the parts.
“Damn it!” Rich screamed, “Where are those slaggin’ parts?”
Jerry looked at the safes in the room and transferred his Porygon to the safe’s computer mechanism.
“I think they’re in the safe.” Jerry said, “It’ll only take Trace thirty seconds to crack the code.”
“Good boy,” Rich complimented.
Lee rushed to Erik and pried him off of Jake, "For the love of Groudon Erik!"
Erik shook Lee off, "No! I'm sick of his attitude, I'm sick of his treatment of others and pokemon, I'm just sick of him! Lets see how he likes it when someone treats him like ****!!"
"Don't give him what he wants!" Lee replied, "Can't you see he's manipulating you?!"
Erik growled, "Right now, I could care less Lee. I'm sick of him and his stupid...everything." he eye the aqua grunts, "And you Eco-terrorists are next" he hissed
Jake coughed, spitting out blood and a tooth. "Not to smart like your friend Lee. Who's the violent psychopath now? You or me." He smugly chuckled.
Erik smiled, "You." he said simply and suddenly calm, "This is merely a semi-volatile outburst while you're a sick and pathetic psycho twenty-four seven. And of course he's smarter than me, one needs a larger capacity brain for the implementing of psychic abilities, I have none, so there for...while not a retard like you, am not as smart as Lee." he stood up, then kicked Jake in the ribs, "Now if you excuse me, I have some ******** to deal with." he picked up his pipe and took a couple of steps towards the Aqua grunts
But not before pocketing the tooth he knocked out with a satisfied grin. Then one of the people from the tour group Erik and Lee came in with shouted, "Monster!"
Only that word wasn't directed at Jake, it was directed at Erik.
Erik twitched, "Bite me alright... I'm tired, and a little upset at being insulted by a cheat who abuses his pokemon and has the audacity to call me pathetic"
The rest of the group was in an uproar, they didn't know of Jake's previous indiscretions all they saw was Erik a violent psychopath. One of then even tossed an empty plastic bottle at his head.
Lee tried to appeal to them, "Wait you don't understand."
"Give it up Lee," Jake smirked, "People don't care for the truth, what I did in the past doesn't matter. But was you did now was make my job easier."
Erik growled, "EXCUSE ME!!!" he cried, "Jake Dumont is siding with Team Aqua, and you're pissed at Me for trying to stop him??? Morons"
"To all these people you are a stranger in a strange land. You really messed up your first impression."
Shelley and her male cohorts laid out the plastic case and opened them reveling foam backing to safely put the component in. After five second the safe’s locking mechanism clicked and they opened.
Without any more words the group snatched the components and placed them in the containers as soon as possible. As soon as they finished they marched back to the service elevator and went back out. Rich broke the silence when he radioed the other team.
“This is Group Alpha. Operation Snatch was a success. All teams return to base.”
Then Jake got the order from Group Alpha. He pressed the button on a device on his belt buckle. In the next moment he and his group teleported out of the building evading capture again. There was a tense silence as Erik was panting heavily and Lee too stunned at what happened.
"Security threat over! Security lockdown deactivated" Then the locks on all the doors clicked and the group could move out.
Erik bent the pipe he was holding and walked out of the nearest door angrily, defeated and heading towards the pokemon center once he got out of the Silph Co. Tower.

Chapter 10 continued...
Lee tried catching to Erik however his friend didn't seem to want company. While that was half-true, Erik always walked faster when he wanted to get away from a heavily emotional situation...like now. Lee could feel his emotions about how Jake Still seemed to best him, and the lonely solidarity that Erik always seemed to feel threatened to swallow him up like a void.
"Come on Erik, he was taunting you. I'd say he deserved what he got!"
"Yeah, and I'm sure you're thinking I deserved being called a monster and getting hit in the head too, huh?" Erik said scathingly, that feeling of loneliness growing, "Isn't it? You think you're better than me, don't you? Jake was right, I am a moron, you're so damn smart!" he threw up his hands, "Well, have fun, I'm going back to Hoenn and forgetting pokemon even exist"
You had every right to be angry, Jake manipulated them because of their and ignorance and you for you compassion! I know you're no monster. Gary knows that and Blaze knows that."
"Yeah well, I expect to be arrested anytime soon. bastards." Erik hissed, "Am I not a monster though, I lost my temper, wanted to...enjoyed beating the crap out of him, I know I'd want to do it again, because of what he did to me this time..." he said, stopping and sliding down a tree to sit, curled up, head buried between his knees
"Come on Erik, I'll die first before I'll see you arrested because of Jake."
Erik growled, "Go away Lee... I just want to go back to Hoenn and forget this godforsaken land where idiots like Jake can run free"
"Not with me around."
"Me going home or Jake running free?" Erik asked
Erik chuckled, "I Just.. I thought I was a good guy... that I just… ignore idiots like Jake." he sighed, tears gently streaming from his eyes, "god I hate myself"
Then Erik's pokenav beeped, was getting an incoming call from Celadon City.
Erik grunted, "What >.<"
"You greet all your friends like that?" Blaze asked
"Only when I'm a monster." he handed his pokenav to Lee, "I'm sulking, you two have fun"
"Hey Lee, what's with Erik?" Blaze asked
"He's just feeling down, don't think he wants to talk now." Lee explained
Erik grumbled something. it was pretty much a yes
"Damn, well we're going to challenge Erika the gym leader here when she finishes her lecture."
"Okay we'll meet you there when we can." Lee said, "G'bye"
"See ya Lee."
Lee tossed the pokenav back Erik caught it and put it away.
"You are. I'm going back to Hoenn"
"I'm taking you to Celadon Erik," Lee growled, "Even if I have to drag you myself."
Lee grabbed Erik's arm and started to drag. Gaining little leeway he grunted, "Stop being a big baby!"
Erik stood and grabbed Lee so they were face to face, "Lee... you're a psychic...would now be a good time to call me a baby, whether I am acting like one or not? considering my fragile emotions at this moment??"
"Erik, you can't go without saying goodbye to Blaze and Gary. Look at it that way"
Erik frowned, grumbling. Lee won
Lee released his skarmory and told him, "Let's go!"
Erik released his Salamance and climbed abroad, and he and Lee took off heading for Celadon.
Back at the airfield even as they group was packing up their supplies and were preparing to move in 20 minutes there was an air of celebration at the base. The group opened some beers and started to laugh at how easy it was to lift the components they wanted.
“..And all thanks to Jerry. Our master hacker!” Shelley roared planting a kiss on the young Aqua’s cheek. One could surmise that she may have had a little too much to drink. Jerry only blushed.
“Here here!” The other Aquas cheered
In the back room where Rich could report his success in quiet, “Yeah we got the components as requested…. Nope no trouble at all it was like shooting fish in a barrel… Okay then we’ll meet in Lavender Town on Friday and head to Fuchsia on Saturday.”
He then paused and gave the Team Magma administrator the intelligence his men picked up minutes ago.
“They’re headed to Celadon just to let you know... No worries…? Okay, See you in Lavender.”
Rich then turned off his cell phone join the party, reveling in the fact that Erik and Lee will be running into some major turbulence.

Chapter 11: Doom and Gloom
Blaze quietly pocketed his pokenav moving out of the small pokemon transfer room at the Celadon Gym. Gary busy reading the latest issue of “Pokemon Now” set the magazine on his lap.
“So are they coming?” He asked
“Yeah,” Blaze sighed, “Something’s up with Erik.”
Gary raised an eyebrow and brushed it off a little and shrugged, “He gets discouraged easily, that’s why I’m around someone has to assure him…”
“But he’s with Lee…”
“He’ll be fine.” Gary said, “Trust me.”
Blaze sat down and tapped his fingers impatiently on his knee caps. Gary unclipped a pokeball from his belt and rolled it.
“Who are you going to use against Erika?”
Unclipping the fourth pokeball from his belt, a great ball Blaze threw it upward and caught it. He then replied, “My sceptile Razorclaw, he may be a bit… excitable. But you know me Gary, got have a type disadvantage.”
Gary nodded. Blaze then asked back, “So who are ya going to use to beat Erika?”
Rolling a pokeball in his palm Gary replied, “Screamin’ Meemie.”
Blaze looked back at him confused, “Who?”
After a minute of “Who?” and “Screamin’ Meemie.” Blaze was showing obvious of frustration by rubbing his temples with his index fingers. Meanwhile Gary was taking spiteful pleasure out of aggravating his friend.
“Please Rayquaza give me enough strength not to rearrange his face…” He growled to himself, then asked one last time, “One last time. Which Pokemon of yours is Screamin’ Meemie?”
“Oh,” Gary snickered, “He’s my Glalie just renamed him too.”
Restraining his anger Blaze growled again and hissed, “Sometimes I wanna strangle you like a chicken.”
Gary smirked, “I know.”
Turning his attention to the time Blaze complained, “Cripes when will she arrive?!”
Meanwhile at Giovanni’s offices, the big man himself was signing some contracts when his secretary came him.
“You told me to watch that pokemon trainer that defeated Butch and Cassidy in Viridian?”
“Well…” Janice told him, “He’s at the Celadon City gym.”
Now this peaked Giovanni’s attention, “Really, do I have any appointments this afternoon.”
Janice looked at his day timer and flipped through his appointments, nothing was there so she replied, “ You’re free for the whole day Mr. Giovanni.”
Giovanni got up from his seat and told her, “Excellent. I’m going to the gym to see how this trainer fights myself.”
As he was walking out Janice turned to him and asked, “Why do you find this trainer interesting?”
“To give him an offer few would ever receive from me.” Giovanni slyly replied.
After around two hours of waiting Blaze and Gary were awarded for their patience by a visit from Marty and his girlfriend Courtney.
“Erika will battle you now.” She softly said
Blaze grunted and groaned stretching his muscles that were half-asleep. He then nudged Gary yawned and stretched.
“Took long enough,” Blaze muttered under his breath. Then loudly cracked his knuckles and followed them with Gary along in tow.
Courtney ran through both of their trainer profiles and made a couple oral notes, “Received all eight required badges for five different leagues? Not bad Blaze…”
“Wait,” Gary said, “I thought Blaze only participated in four leagues.”
“I did,” Blaze replied, “I never bothered to enter the Silver Conference.”
Blaze looked at Marty, “That was the year Marty and I split up. I didn’t feel like competing that year.”
Marty bit his lip as he didn’t was to say any cruel words to Blaze in the presence of his girlfriend. “You will never let that go won’t you won’t you Blaze.” He quietly thought to himself.
Despite his better judgement he caught up to his brother and gave Blaze something that looked like a potion bottle.
“What’s this?” he asked
“It’s a Full Restore.” Marty replied, “Trust me, Erika will use her absolute best Pokemon against yours.”
Blaze pocketed it but still maintained his smugness, “With Razorclaw I don’t think I don’t have to worry about her.”
“You’ll be surprised Blaze.” Marty snickered.

Chapter 11 continued...
Courtney then stopped at a door and motioned for the others to as well, “Erika’s waiting behind these doors. If you want to withdraw your challenge now is the time to do it.”
Gary scoffed, “We waited 2 hours later, we ain’t backing off now.”
“Heh,” Courtney snickered, “Just kidding. In you go…”
And so the doors swung open to the main part of the gym, this battlefield was surrounds by rich and exotic flora and some Grass-type pokemon like Bellsprout, Oddish even a Sunflora were basking in the foliage. On the other side of the field was Erika in her battle kimono. See peered at the two trainers and asked.
Acting as referee Courtney took her positing and announced to those watching, “Trainer Blaze St. Helens with a Sceptile challenge Gym Leader Erika with Bellossom! One on One Battle! Start!”
“Go Razorclaw!” Blaze called out.
“Scept!” Razorclaw hissed hyperactively slashing around and bouncing off the trees. Blaze groaned and told him, “Eyes on the target Razorclaw!”
“Amusing,” Erika smirked throwing he Pokemon, “Go Bellossom!”
Bellossom danced a little, waiting for the sceptile to make its move. Blaze ordered, “Use your Fury Cutter!”
“Tile!” Razorclaw screamed as it rushed the bellossom, but Erika quickly told it, “Sunny Day!”
The gym flooded with intense sunlight temporarily blinding Blaze, Razor Claw and Gary.
“Wait a sec,” Blaze growled, “Bellossom’s speed doubles in intense sunlight.” He then called to Razorclaw, “Raz! The bellossom is as fast as you are!”
“Okay Bellosom!” Erika pointed to the staggering sceptile, “Sludge Bomb!”
“Hurry!” Blaze yelled, “Detect and evade!”
Razorclaw braced itself and took the hit and protected itself from the sludge bomb. The sceptile took no damage but still Blaze knew he couldn’t stay on the defensive. Then a though came to him as he quietly though, “Bellossom may be able to keep up with him, but I bet it’s not faster than his claws. After all the hand… er claw is faster than the eye.”
Blaze ordered from Razorclaw, “Hyper Cutter attack Razorclaw!”
With increased fury Razorclaw slashed at Bellosom, with each connecting hit his power growing stronger. Even so much that on the fifth strike his slash threw Bellosom backwards at Erika’s feet.
“Bell,” it groaned as it struggled to get back up almost out of energy.
“Hold in the Bellosom,” Erika coaxed, “Nail it with Solarbeam!”
The Bellosom nodded as it collected the sunlight and fired ray of unimaginable power at Razorclaw sending him flying into the foliage and kicking up all the dust in the gym. Blaze looked around for a moment, “Razorclaw?”
Razorclaw crawled from the bushed bruised but not beaten, his grass-type save him from what would be heavy punishment for other pokemon.
“You underestimated me Blaze,” Erika called out, “Now our pokemon are even.”
“Yeah,” Blaze quietly snickered to Gary, “One more Fury Cutter and the bellossom’s history.”
“I know,” Gary whispered back, “But if the hit doesn’t connect the next attack looses its punch.”
“Bellosom!” Erik dictated, “Double Team!”
Bellossom darted around Razorclaw leaving afterimages behind, the sceptile grew confused and hissed, “Sceptile…”
“Listen!” Blaze called to him, “Just focus and relax and watch Bellossom’s closely.”
“One last time,” Erik said, “Solarbeam!”
Sceptile shot a glance and made a nearly blind slash. There was a odd silence as everyone looked to the battlefield. No solarbeam was fired thus it was logical to find Bellosom laying down fainted beside a triumphant Razorclaw who yelled, “SCEPTILE!” then hopped around like a hyperactive 6 year old.
Blaze sweatdropped and recalled Razorclaw, “Okay okay, don’t to excited Razorclaw. Great job by the way.”
Erika knelt next to her bellossom, “It’s okay Bellossom, you tried your hardest.”
Courtney announced, “Erika’s Bellossom is unable to battle! Blaze wins!”
Giovanni was watching intently from the bleachers with his Persian looking down on Blaze’s victory.
“Hmmm… he is skilled as they say,” He said to Persian, “But his friend, maybe we have another potential recruit.”
“Great job Blaze that rainbow badge is yours now.” Gary said to Blaze as he stepped back from the battlefield.
“Yeah and it should be yours.”
“Heh heh heh,” Gary snickered, “With Screamin’ Meemie this’ll be a piece of cake.”
Then Courtney announced, “Trainer Gary Frost with a Glalie challenges Gym Leader Erika with Cradily! One on One Battle! Start!”
Gary didn’t immediately notice Erika’s pokemon as he called out throwing a pokeball, “Go Screamin’ Meemie!”
Blaze however his jaw dropped, “Did Courtney just say “Cradily”?!”

Chapter 11 continued...
Gary looked back, “What’s a Cradily?”
Blaze pointed to Erika who threw up her next pokeball unleashing the long-extinct pokemon Cradily, Blaze took out his Pokedex and Gary took a look as well.
POKEDEX ENTRY –[ Cradily – "The Barnacle Pokemon"- "Cradily's body serves as an anchor, preventing it from being washed away in rough seas. This pokemon secretes a strong digestive fluid from its tentacles.”
“Additional Note: This Pokemon has been extinct for thousands, if not millions of years. However through fossil revival technology this Pokemon as been used by trainer lucky enough to obtain a fossil”]-
“How did she get a pokemon like this?!” Blaze asked out loud passed the Pokedex to Gary.
“Oh I acquired a fossil while lecturing in Rustboro City,” Erika explained, “I took it to Devon Corp. and had it revived, since then I’ve been training it.”
“According to this it’s a Rock and Grass type,” Gary read, “Cradily should fall easily to Meemie’s Ice Beam.”
Gary then handed back the pokedex back to Blaze who warn him, “Gary, remember Rock also crushes Ice. Be careful.”
Turning to Screamin’ Meemie; Gary ordered the glalie pointing at Cradily, “Nail it with Ice Beam attack!”
“Shield yourself Cradily! Protect!”
“Lee!” Meemie yelled as it shot a frigid beam at Cradily who blocked with a protective barrier. Gary cursed under his breath, knowing he needed to whittle down Cradily’s energy should Erika
use Protect again.
“Change of plans Meems,” Gary instructed his pokemon, “Use Toxic!”
“Lee,” Meemie his spiting out its toxic attack. The poison didn’t hurt Cradily off the bat but at least it was crippled.
“Ancient Power Cradily!” Erika countered
Cradily’s eye glowed as it summoned the ancient force into a wave of crackling-white energy nailing Meemie who cried in pain as the glalie had type-disadvantage. Then a white aura crackled around Cradily as its power increased. With the augmented speed it received Cradily was able to attack first.
“Rock Slide!” She ordered, knowing that attack could defeat Screamin’ Meemie.
“Craaaaaaaid,” Cradily shrieked summoning a landslide over Meemie chipping of pieces his ice armor, then the cascade of rocks buried him and Gary ran to save him by unearthing him.
“Don’t worry,” He said tossing off the rocks, “We’ll beat her just you wait…”
When he finally uncovered Screamin’ Meemie he saw the pokemon was nearly fainted, barely hanging onto consciousness.
“Come on,” Gary pleaded, “You can’t give up now.”
Blaze looked on, “Gary’s getting creamed.” He thought to himself before remembering the Full Restore Marty gave him. Blaze didn’t need it because he had already defeated Erika and Gary could really use it now. Digging it out of his pocket he called to Gary, “Hey Gary!”
“Yeah?” he called back.
Blaze threw the Full Restore and told him, “Catch!”
Catching it in his hands Gary saw it was the thing Marty gave Blaze knowing he needed it desperate he untwisted the cap and fed it the Screamin’ Meemie.
The glalie’s face lit up and Gary told him, “Get back in there and use Double Team!”
“Do it again Cradily! Rock Slide!”
Too late Meemie already split into a dozen after images and evaded the attack. Cradily cringed as Toxic’s effects really started to sink in.
Walking up to Gary; Blaze asked, “So what’s next? An attack with Ice Beam? Blizzard?”
Gary smirked, “Sheer Cold.”
“Are you nuts Gary?!” Blaze yelled, “That attack’s too inaccurate!”
“Blaze, Blaze, Blaze, Blaze, Blaze. Ye have little faith?” Gary teased, then shot an order at Meemie, “Finish this quickly! Sheer Cold!”
“Lee,” Meemie nodded, building up it energy. Leering at Cradily it summoned the bitter arctic winds inside it and blew a chilling gust of wind that nearly ripped Cradily off its suction cups. Frozen into place, Cradily was frozen solid and devoid of any more energy to fight on. Courtney paused for a moment before reported her verdict.
“Erika’s Cradily is unable to battle Gary and his Glalie win!”
Gary jumped in the air whooping, “I WON!”
Giovanni looked on Gary before. Even he had to admit that Gary was a trainer of high caliber. Should he join the ranks of Team Rocket Mr. Frost would become an administrator in no time at all. No, he should give him the same offer as his ally and friend Mr. St. Helens. Rising from his seat his told his Persian.
“Come now, they’ll do quite nicely…”

Chapter 11 continued...
Both looked proudly at their badge cases, Gary with his five badges and Blaze with his three. Having just won Gary was in a bragging mood.
“I am the greatest! Five badges!”
“Don’t get too cocky Gary,” Blaze warned, “I only went to four gyms and couldn’t bother with Misty’s challenge.”
“Is that jealousy I hear?” Gary taunted.
Blaze growled, pulling back his fist. However before he could even think of giving Gary a socking, Giovanni sneaked up behind them.
“Mr. Winter and Mr. St. Helens.”
Gary and Blaze turned, Blaze lowered his fist. Hinting some familiarity with Giovanni’s face Blaze asked.
“You look familiar. Do I know you.”
“No, not in person,” Giovanni replied, “I’m Giovanni, head of Team Rocket and I’ve come to made you two an offer.”
Gary used his turn to ask, “Offer?”
“Yes, I watched your battles with the gym leader and quite frankly I’m impressed,” Giovanni commented, “So much I’m willing to give you rather generous offers, both of you can be administrators should you accept. And don’t take it lightly, I’m giving you a chance of a life…”
Then his cell phone rang and he pardoned himself. Both Blaze and Gary considered it for a second but they knew they couldn’t accept.
“As much as I hate Team Aqua,” Blaze whispered, “I think we should refuse this offer.”
“Yeah,” Gary replied in the same hushed tone, “These guys steal pokemon and I have no interest in being a criminal.”
Giovanni growled as he hung up, “There is some trouble at the office so I have to insist for an answer no.”
“As tempting as it sounds,” Blaze replied, “World Domination is not our thing, so we respectfully decline your offer.
Nodding as he passed by, Giovanni looked a little disappointed walking between to the two with his loyal persian behind him. He stopped and gave the two a warning, “A word to the wise Mr. St. Helens, Mr. Winters. Do not interfere in the operations of Team Rocket or the consequences will be grave.”
A chill ran up Gary’s spine as well as Blaze’s as they watched Giovanni and the persian walk into the limo parked out front.
When it drove off and was lost to Celadon’s traffic Gary stuck out his tongue and spat, “Yeah and we’ll be ready for ya!”
“Let him go.” Blaze growled,, “I think Giovanni as bigger problems on his plate. Namely two teams starting with ‘m and a’ and both ending in ‘a’.”
“Whatever,” Gary shrugged, “You think Erik and Lee made it to the pokecenter?”
Blaze looked up to the sky and replied, “I doubt it.”
“What makes you say that?” Gary asked
Blaze pointed to the sky and circled around “You see the sky?”
Gary looked around and saw gray of varying contrasts, “Yeah so?”
“That’s smoke and it’s surrounding Celadon so that means there’s a huge forest fire circling the city.”
“Explains the smell. So what do we do?”
Blaze looked to the street, “We go back to the pokecenter and see what’s going on.”

Intermission 4: Inferno
A few hours ago…
In the thickest forests between Celadon and Saffron at a rarely used back road a van with the Team Magma logo stops. Its occupants clear out and spread across the forest. On of the grunts snorts at the lush foliage and the carpet of dead leaves and pine needles on the forest floors.
“Those morons, trying to stop forest fires so much they made these forests giant tinderboxes.”
His partner smirked at him, “Then let’s help mother nature along shall we? Go Slugma! Torkoal!”
“Go Vulpix! Go Combusken!”
The fire pokemon lined up in front of their trainers.
They both yelled, “Flamethrower!”
The fire pokemon spat out a jet stream of fire and did so repeated until the forest pokemon started to flee. Taking a cue from them the Team Magma grunts recalled their pokemon and fled to the van as the fire gained strength with every passing second. Swiftly they got in as the other two grunts came back. The driver hit the pedal and the van went speeding off as the flames started to engulf them.
The driver grabbed the radio microphone, “This is subgroup Vesuvius reporting. Operation Firestarter is a success at checkpoint Charlie.”
A voice crackled over the radio, “Acknowledged subgroup Vesuvius, return to base. Those trainers are going nowhere.”
Only within an hour of those fires being set Lee and Erik, flew over the forests after their adventure in Saffron.
Lee took a deep breath and sighed, “Beautiful day isn’t it?”
“Yeah,” Erik muttered, “Beautiful.”
Having less and less patience for dealing with it, “When you knock off the listlessness? Since when did you care about that creep Dumont says?”
“It’s those people Dumont made me look like a monster.”
“For the love of,” Lee groaned, “They were only 15 people!”
“The subject is closed.” Erik growled, “I’m going to Celadon, gonna tell Gary and Blaze I’m leaving and then I’m gone…”
Two dots in the sky were coming in and fast, two park rangers on pidegots were bee-lining it towards the skarmory and the salamance carrying Erik and Lee. Running parallel to the two the female one warned.
“You have to turn back now!”
Lee looked at her, “I thought this was public airspace.”
“It is,” She replied, “However due to multiple forest fires, all routes and low-altitude airspace westbound to Celadon City are closed.”
Lee nodded and told his skarmory, “Turn back, we’re going back.”
Erik gave the salamance a light kick and it turned around following Lee on his skarmory, the two forest rangers broke off and went to search for more trainers trying to fly to Celadon.
“Looks like we’ll have to go back to the pokecenter in Saffron,” Lee said.
“Yeah the sooner we get there, the sooner I can tell them I’m leaving.”
“You’re not going anywhere Erik.” Lee told him sternly, “I’ll give you, three guesses who started those fires.”
Giovanni was looking over his office with papers scattered everywhere, books knocked their shelves and the wastebasket kicked over.
“Do you know who did this?” he growled.
“We don’t know, the security tapes when it happened were ‘blanked out’.” The security chief replied.
“What was taken?”
“Nothing valuable,” The chief explained, “Just a technical machine.”
Giovanni paused. Then he said, “That’s it?”
He then turned to his security chief, “Fail me again Mr. Laurio and I’ll make sure you will never find a job in Kanto. Got it?”
Mr. Laurio nodded nervously, “Yes sir, it won’t happen again sir.”
“Now get out of my sight.” Giovanni ordered. The security chief briskly walked out of the office to avoid incurring his employer’s wrath. Giovanni walked up to his desk turned the wastebasket right side up and sat down in his chair.
There was no doubt who dared come into his office to steal his property, but why they wanted his rare TM ‘Fissure’ was a mystery. He then picked up the phone, “Janice, call in the Team Rocket executives and have them come to my office by 10:40 tomorrow morning.”
Back at the pokecenter in Celadon City, Blaze had his laptop open and was writing an e-mail to his parents. Gary was sitting across from him playing on his gameboy advance and by the moment of cursing the other trainers could assume it was a final boss or something.
Nurse Joy’s voice came over the intercom, “Will Blaze St. Helens and Gary Winter come to the front desk, again it’s Blaze St. Helens and Gary Winter come to the front desk.”
“Looks like that call we’ve been expecting has come in…” Blaze sighed, saving the e-mail and shutting down his laptop.
Gary was still snarling and cursing. Blaze put the laptop in his backpack and then looked at Gary, “You kiss your mother with that mouth?”
Gary didn’t even respond. Blaze groaned and snatched the GBA and shut it off.
“Hey!” Gary yelled, “I was playing that…”
“Did you save the game before that boss?”
“Of course.” Gary replied.
“Good,” Blaze said tossing the GBA onto Gary’s lap, “We’ve been called to the front desk.”
When the two came to the front desk, Blaze looked to Nurse Joy.
“I’m Blaze St. Helens and he’s Gary Winter. We were called here a minute ago?”
“Oh yes,” Nurse joy said, “You have a call off videophone three.”
She pointed to the videophones, Blaze thanked her and he and Gary sat down in front of it. As anticipated it was Lee, Blaze greeted with a cheerful look.
“Lee, what’s up?”
“You heard about the forest fires Blaze?” Lee asked
“Yeah. Many of the trainers here are stuck because the wanted to challenge Erika before they challenged Sabrina.” Blaze replied.
“So you know why Erik and I couldn’t make it.”
Blaze looked to Gary, “Should we tell them?”
“Tell us what?”
“He can meet up in Fuchsia City,” Blaze explained, “Routes 16 through 18 are still open so Gary and I can go that way.”
“Where’s Erik?” Gary asked.
Lee’s looked turned to a somber one, “There was an incident with Jake Dumont and now Erik wants to leave.”
“What?” Gary gasped, “He can’t leave now!”
Blaze nodded in agreement.
“I am,” Erik came up to the videophone Lee was sitting at and replied, “I’ve had enough of Kanto. I’m going home.”
“You’re going nowhere Erik.” Blaze told him.
“Yeah!” Gary agreed, “We’re gonna kick Team Magma and Team Aqua’s butts back to Hoenn!”
Blaze saddled up his backpack and told Lee, “Make sure he goes nowhere. If Gary and I hurry we can make it to Route 17 by sunset. Ready Gary?”
“Always.” Gary nodded.
“Well no time to waste… see you in Fuchsia Lee… Erik…”
“But… but…” Erik protested.
Lee waved, “See you there Gary, Blaze.”
“Adios amigos…” Gary said before the two hung up.
At the Saffron pokecenter Erik was speechless, they never even gave him a say in edgewise, “Did you hear that?”
Lee replied, “Yup.”
“I am not going.” Erik snorted.
Lee gave a devious grin and snickered, “Well if you want me to pry into your mind and read your darkest secrets…”
Defensively Erik growled, “You wouldn’t dare!”
“Would I? I (unofficially) made a promise to them that I’d take you along.” Lee told him, “And I’ll do by any means.”
Erik grumbled for a bit before muttering, “Fine… I’ll go.”
“Great,” Lee replied, “Next stop, Lavender Town.”

Chapter 12: Encounters with Ken
The routes from Celadon City to Fuchsia City in the south are a series of bridges and islands full of unique pokemon and trainers (though many are biker gangs.) Such a path comes with many adventures for the trainers Blaze St. Helens and Gary Frost. About to find themselves in a big mess coming to the next bridge.
"Welp Blaze, turns out we may have some excitement on this route..." Gary said turning to Blaze with a wicked smile.
Blaze was somewhat concerned about what David told him about their father, and then he sighed
Gary noted the sigh but best thought to leave the thought to Blaze. "Ken told me there was a trainer on this route...a really good one who challenged whomever walked this way." He said looking ahead
"Think he was talking about himself?"
"I hope not...I suppose if we run into this person, we'll find out eh?" Gary sighed in confusion, "We could use a challenge for a change..." Gary said under his breath
"Indeed," Blaze smirked, "You know why David is hell-bent on beating me right?"
Gary thought for a bit remembering one of David's old rants about their father losing to a wannabe Fire Trainer. "Yeah...he wants to beat you cause you defeated our dad in a honorable, and fair fight." Gary said shining his glasses. "That's how he uses his brain. If he or dad loses, it's automatically the winners fault."
"And your dad? Was he shattered by his defeat like David said?"
Gary sighed. "After his defeat, my dad retired, but not happily. He said he was to old to continue battling. He put his trust in David. To carry out his work. Continue the blood line. Hell, he even gave him his Flareon." Gary took a breath. "David is pretty much fighting for both of them now." He concluded
"And apparently wants to settle old blood debts."
"Yup." Gary said plainly and simply.
Finally coming to the end of the bridge connecting Celadon to the Indigo Archipelago was the trainer Gary spoke of earlier. Looking familiar Ben cried out.
"Sweet Jebus it's him!"
Gary didn't believe his eyes. It "WAS" Ken....but soon another figure appeared behind him. Ken approached the two and spoke. "This is the guy...he beat me again! For the 8th time today!" Gary laughed to himself on how even Jesse and James could beat him. With just Meowth in their bags.
Gary then looked at the other Trainer. He didn't look familiar. "You know this guy Blaze?" Gary whispered to him.
"A-Nope." Ben replied "How many times were you trying to beat this guy again Ken?
The trainer in question approached with short spiky purple hair. He wore a plain black shirt, along with blue stylish jeans. He brushed his purple hair with his fingers and posed a stature. "I'm Luke..." He said looking to the others with his brown eyes. "I'm the best trainer in Fuchsia City, and you're walking on my route." He said with a vile smile
Ken only mouthed off. "Eight or so..."
Gary whispered. "Well, he shouldn't be to hard...he's only tried to beat you about 1000." Gary joked softly
“Last time I checked moron," Blaze snarled at Luke, "It was a public route and my friend and I can use it any time we desire. Now get out of my way!"
Luke snarled a bit at Blaze's outburst but quickly regained his posture. "You're right...it 'was' a public route. That is until I took over by defeating all the trainers who came by here." He walked towards the three. "You should back track now. Like I told your friend. You're not welcome on this path." He said turning away. "But...I'll let you pass. If you beat me in a battle." He concluded
Blaze pulled out the Ultra Ball that contained his Dragonair, "How about this? If I beat you, you never show up on this route again."
Then Blaze taunted, "Unless you're a coward which is fine with me."
Luke was impressed on how Blaze challenged him so, but he knew like all the others. The outcome will be the same, and he'll be the victor. "Deal." Luke pulled out his first Pokeball. "Heh...Me a coward! I never back down from a fight! Three on three!" He commanded in a battle position. Gary was a bit nervous but was anxious to see a real fight
"Ladies first Luke."
"Grrrr..." Luke growled as he threw out his first pokeball. "Go Dusclops!" He yelled as the Ghost-type Pokemon appeared in front of Blaze with red eye glowing.
“Dussss...clops!” The ghost pokemon growled
"Get him Imperium!" Ben ordered as he threw the ultra ball in the ring.
The Dragonair unwrapped and looked upon the Dusclops. One would have to be impressed Blaze found one of the rarest pokemon on the planet.
"Use Dragon Rage!"
Luke was quite shocked to see such a rare find, but he quickly yelled out "Dusclops! Evade quickly!" Dusclops was swift enough to breeze away from the powerful projectile in time!
Gary was shocked. He had a Duskull of his own, and he knew the evolution was slow. He'd never seen a Dusclops move so fast! "You can still get him Blaze!" He shouted for his friend.
"Change of plans! Use Twister!" Blaze yelled
"Nair!" Imperium nodded and sent a tiny (but powerful) vortex of blue flame at the Dusclops.
Dusclops wasn't fast enough to react this time as the tiny blue flame hit home. Dusclops closed its eye and flew backwards into the trunk of a tree. "Dusclops no!" Luke shouted. "It's not over yet friend!" Dusclops red eye again opened and he stood back up.
Ken sat back and watched lazily. "Thing's got spunk..."
Blaze knew that Dusclops was particularly very resilient of special attack. “Maybe I should use Outrage it's a powerful attack but will leave Imperium confused and vulnerable. Otherwise Dusclops does have very little stamina.”
Luke grinned. "You've got a strong pokemon there...I admit that. But now it's time to show off Dusclops power." He said magnificently. "Dusclops! Double Team!"
“Dussssssss!” Dusclops closes his eye and soon several more clones of the creature appear around Dragonair.
Luke then called out again before Blaze could use another attack. "Dusclops! Use Shadow Punch!" The ghost pokemon rose a fist and charged straight for Dragonair with fist hurling with incredible strength.
"Nair" Imperium cried as the attack connected, but Dusclops was a pretty weak attacker.
"Not that it'll help you Luke!" Blaze counter, "Imperium! Use Outrage!"
The orbs on Imperium started to shine bright as blue energy surrounded it. It exploded in an attack that hit Dusclops and all its clones with a dragon's ferocity.
Luke's eyes grew large as he witnessed his Dusclops getting hit by the straight Dragon fury.
“Dusssss...clops!” And that was it. The Ghost Pokemon had fallen with a large thud to the ground.
"Dusclops! No!" Luke shouted out. "You got lucky cause you have a Dragon Pokemon."
“Looks like some has a case of sour grapes.” Blaze shot back
Luke grumbled as he called back his first pokemon. Gary grew with excitement while Ken brushed off a wave. "I would of beaten him too if he didn't use Double Team..."
"I'm just getting warmed up Luke," Blaze told him recalling Imperium, "Now bring out your next pokemon!"
Blaze took his next pokeball and called out, "Go Deluge!"
05-29-2004, 04:57 AM
Chapter 12 continued
"Rai!" The legendary Raichu cried out, he had started to gain a reputation as one of the fastest pokemon alive.
Gary mumbled. "He could of just had him sit there...and you still would of lost." He said to himself as he turned his attention back to the match
Luke grit his teeth as he threw out his next pokeball. "Go Golem! We'll teach this guy!" Luke said enjoying that this match he had the upper advantage! The large rock-type Pokemon clashed onto the ground with a loud boom.
“GOOOLEEEMM!” It shouted with massive strength.
"Deluge! Peel some rubber! Use Agility!" Blaze yelled.
Deluge started to dart around at extreme speed matching that of a European sports car. Confusing the Golem very much.
Luke was impressed to see such a speedy pokemon, but refused to let Blaze get a 1 up on him. "Golem! Use Roll out and roll yourself all over the field!" Golem tucked himself into a ball and began spinning madly as he rolled all over the area. In hoping to clash into the speedy Raichu.
Deluge quickly sidestepped the Golem and Blaze decided to show Luke something surprising, "Deluge! Use Surf!"
Luke couldn't believe it! The Water smashed into the grounded Golem and threw him back to roughly. He was already knocked out from the blast.
"What the!?" Luke was speechless.
"You never heard of a Surfing Pikachu that evolved into a Raichu?"
Gary was laughing. "What happened Luke? Your mouth got stuck from running to much?" Gary laughed. Ken however didn't take it so lightly.
Luke grunted. He couldn't believe he was losing. And so easily too. This guy was a far better trainer than he thought. "Hah! I saved the best for last!
"I won two out of three Luke." Blaze sneered, "Even a puny little Metapod gave me a harder time than you did!"
Luke didn't respond as he held out his third pokeball.
Gary was anxious to see what he'd throw out. But Ken already knew. He sat back full of jealousy. "I could of won two out of three rounds..."
Blaze was waiting too, "What's the matter Luke? You're having a change of heart?"
Luke grinned as he spun out his third and final pokemon. "Go Sudowoodo!" The Tree-like Pokemon landed abruptly with a loud wooden thump as it stared at Deluge with nasty intentions.
"Deluge combine Agility with Double Team!"
Deluge ran again filling the battle field with a staggering 32 doubles. But Luke probably had something up his sleeve.
Luke Shouted out with "Sudowoodo Use Earthquake Now!" The Tree-Rock Creature implanted its weight into the ground causing a massive tremor. The ground started shaking violently beneath the feet of the quick and agile Raichu and its doubles.
Blaze recalled Deluge as he fainted from the tremendous shock and took another ultra ball and call out. "Razorclaw go get him!"
Then the Sceptile hissed at the Sudowoodo and started showing off its leaves like a swordsman.
Luckily Razorclaw was very quick and agile much like Deluge. One look at the Sceptile only made one thing clear... Sudowoodo was toast. From Blaze's point of view.
"Leaf Blade, Razorclaw!"
Razorclaw sprinted at the Sudowoodo and slashed it elegantly with its razor-sharp leaf. For the finale it slashed at Sudowoodo with it's claws in an 'X' pattern.
The branches began to break apart from SudoWoodo's stance and it looked like it took massive damage. Luke shouted out again. "Oh no you don't! SudoWoodo! Use Slam attack!" He wasn't about to throw in the towel, even at his slight disadvantage. Razorclaw was just to fast for his pokemon to keep up.
"Suck it dry Razorclaw! Giga Drain!"
"Ile" Razorclaw hissed as it evaded Sudowoodo's attack. Glowing and yellow-green aura it and sapped the Sudowoodo dry of its energy.
Sudowoodo's eyes crossed out and it fell to the ground defeated. Along with its owner who also was defeated. He stood motionless with pokeball in hand. Gary cheered loudly as he knew Blaze would pull through in the end. "You won...." Luke looked towards Blaze with slight fear, aggression, and respect.
Razorclaw cheered "Scep! Ile!" then started to bound like a 5 year-old jumped off on coffee and sugar.
"You weren't so bad yourself. Now can we pass?"
Luke looked disappointed, but he figured he would lose sometime. "Yeah...the paths all yours. With a trainer like you around, I don't think anyone would dare try to take over a route. Good battle." The Purple haired clad slung his backpack over his shoulder as he called back his pokemon. "Maybe I'll see you guys again some day..." He said nodding to the three as he walked off and vanished out of sight.
Gary ran up to Ben and his hyper Razorclaw. "That was intense..."
Ken however remained seated under the tree pouting with a nose rose in the air.
"I knew I would win, Luke was like all the other trainers I beat in the past. Too sure of themselves."
Gary nodded. "Reminds me of a certain short man." Gary ushered to Ken who finally joined the duo. "Don't you have anywhere else you can go?" Gary remarked at Ken who followed shortly behind.
"I doubt it." Blaze quietly remarked
Ken ignored Gary's comment and followed along. "You guys know I could of beaten him easily. Just an off day for me! That's all!" Ken said grinning full of himself. Gary mumbled "Sure..." As he stepped up to keep up with Blaze.
"Reallllly big off day." Ben added, “Come one, let go cross this bridge and set up camp.”
