Pidgeotto. I used my Pidgeotto against the Gengar and the only move it could use was Sucker Punch. After five turns, all it did was put it to sleep and do nothing. Shadow Ball doesn't affect Pidgeotto apparently. From there it was super easy.

I was having a really hard time until I found this out. :]

It is because Ghost doesn't effect Normal type Pokemon, and vise versa

Golbat FTW. His bite did the trick. (or was he a zubat then...?)

Anyway, nice strategic thinking with the normal+flying!

Well, I leveled a Magikarp for like an hour and a half so I could have Gyarados, and he learns Bite at 20. That's what I used.

Any Normal type will own a Ghost gym with ease. I remember my Togetic wiping the floor with Morty in Crystal.

Porygon2 and Psybeam. *nods head* Good thing I had that Awakening for Haunter's Hypnosis, though.

Killed him with many Pokemon. I think it was Noctowl who fought Gengar, crushing it with confusion.

No, Normal- and Ghost-types aren't affected by one another. Ghost-types however are weak against themselves, so teaching a Normal-type a Ghost-type move will give you an advantage over them.

A Noctowl with Insomnia and Confusion helped me quite a lot.

It is best to use a pkmn that knows bite.

See his Gengar is level 25. When i beat him ( yesterday) my pkmn were level 29, 30. Yeah, that was a HARD gym leader, especially to that stupid Haunter that kept on using Hypnosis.

well why i was sitting in bed sick yesterday i beat him. my scyther was level 21 when he started and came out level 27.

ok so i had scyther use pursuit and wing feather (i think thata right xD) and he was able to 1 hit every thing until the last medium. and then i beat mortys gengar in a 2 hit ko

Well it was pretty easy for me and Quilava. I beat him with only one move: Flame weal

I had Flaffy lead my team in this Gym, and Thunder shock pretty much took care of most of the trainers here. Morty had a good team, but I just kept switching in & out and using electric type moves on his team. in the end I was left with 2 pokemon in my team standing.

Nobody tried Stantler. Lured the Haunters and the Gastly to Stantler's hypnotic trance, then Astonished them to death. Polished Gengar off with my disobeying Event Arceus, who tried to do Spatial Rend but did Shadow Force instead.
Blasted Curse and Hypnosis. Had to switch Quilava, Stantler, Arceus, and Ace (Pidgeotto) out a LOT.
And you know what was funky? Morty's Hypnosis always hit.

Don't laugh; but I've been stuck at this gym for quite a while! I can easily get him, I have a Togetic that has been sweeping, but I just have the worst luck with sleeping / Hypnosis and it has gotten me on multiple accounts, it's ridiculous.

I should beat him soon, though, I've gotten the game yesterday; haven't played enough. It's just been four losses, it's getting sad!

Yup, I taught my stantler shadow ball and it was soo pwning morty. It also knew hypnosis but i think gengar had Insomina anyways...

I just used drowzee who had insomnia so hypnosis wasn't a problem. And it was a piece of cake.

My brother just used a kadabra with confusion 1 hit ko. I would reccomend using a murkrow or a noctowl or xatu.

I beat Morty this morning with my Growlithe's bite. =D Thank goodness I had luck and his Hypnosis didn't hit that often....^^;

haha i just used croconaws bite.

I used my Noctowl and kicked Mortys butt. Noctowl's ability insomia prevents it from falling asleep and being part normal type ghost types have no effect. Noctowl also can learn confusion which I used to kick but with, pretty much took out all of Morty's pokes in one or two moves

For me, it was Golbat. She saved my bacon Thanka to plenty of bite.

It was easy for me, seeing as my team was Croconaw, Golbat, Machop, Haunter, Growlithe and Scyther. Five each had a move that was super effective to his Ghost type. xD.

I've been getting past gym leaders and their strongest pokemon with my Haunter using Curse to slowly kill them  That should take care of Gengar
