Prebattle

The wind whistled quietly over the hills, bringing clouds over the ancient-looking stadium nestled in the dip between a pair of rises. There had once been a bustling city here, with this stadium as its sports arena, but now this monolith was all that remained. In it were a pair of Trainers, ready to fight, to make the stadium come back to life, if only for a short while.

One of them, a younger girl, let fly a Pokeball which released something as phantasmal as the beam it rode on. The grey marionette's face was split by a gold zipper that eerily mimicked the grin of an ax-murderer. A long crest swung behind the Banette's head, drifting like hair in the breeze, and it held its draping arms out before it like a zombie as it floated.

The other, a teenage boy, made the choice of loosing an orange fox. Its muzzle was short and tipped with a twitching black nose, the same color as its intelligent, shining eyes. The long hair on its neck, tail, and head was golden, and it curled elegantly into a texture rather like wool. The Flareon growled in excitement and flexed its graceful paws. It turned toward Banette and the two stares - one glowing red and the other a rich dark brown - met in readiness for the coming battle.

Round One

Flare and Banette were matched in speed, but someone had to move first, and since the tie of quickness wouldn't last for very long, Flare figured it may as well be her moving first. She sat down on the sparse grass and closed her eyes, drawing in energy.

A miasma of pink-and-black energy soon surrounded Flare. The energy thrummed and glowed, pulsating like a heartbeat. It gathered around Flare, filling her body and making her power grow. The fox smiled as she felt her claws sharpening, her muscles strengthening, her nerves steeling. Her body was full of energy, coursing with the power... but as the black energy filled Flare, she felt, too, a dulling of her reflexes. She knew she would be significantly slower now, but she could cope. The new strength she felt would be a significant help to her, after all.
[Curse: Flare, -4% Energy, +1 ATK, +1 DEF, -1 SPD]

Banette was next, and as she watched Flare boosting herself, she knew that she would have to hinder the Flareon in some way, at least. Gathering up some energy of her own, Banette lifted her hands and face to the sky. She closed her eyes and used the wind to drift eerily around, hoping to catch the eye of Arceus with her slow, crude dance. She moved and drifted for about half a minute before the cloudy sky clouded blacker, and fat raindrops began to pour from the sky. The drops fizzled through Banette's body, but Flare was soaked to the skin - and furious about it - in seconds. The Flareon began to steam, and to growl.
[Rain Dance: Banette, -7% Energy]

Banette was ready to attack again as the rain fell. She stretched her hands out even further before her, and a sphere of purple energy formed there. Instead of remaining as energy, however, it turned into a thick pile of disgusting purple sludge that dripped and fizzed and steamed ominously in the rain. Banette grinned coldly and threw the glob of goop at Flare. The Flareon, what with her dull reflexes, had no time to dodge. The poison coated her fur, seeping into her skin and then her bloodstream. The rain had washed her clean in a few seconds, but by then the damage had been done.
[Toxic: Banette, -6% Energy; Flare, + TOX]

Flare was spitting angry at that point. She snarled at Banette, drawing her body into a compact crouch. She then sprang at Banette - and her low speed was still quite enough to get her there. The fire boiled in her guts, and, while it was slightly quenched by the rain, Flare's jaws began to glow with bright orange and red flames that swirled around her teeth. She latched onto Banette and gripped, hard, making Banette shriek like a banshee as fiery pain spread through the limb. Flare let go after a few seconds, but not before she had left her mark. Banette was hissing with how much the flames stung. In her ancient, clever mind, Banette vowed revenge on the smug Fire-Type.

Sunny Day ~ Fire Fang

Round Two

Banette eyed Flare's poison-and-cold-freaking-rain-induced shivers with a mixture of contempt and triumph. She knew what the perfect thing to do to her foe would be: taking advantage of the Flareon's toxin-riddled torture.

Banette began to chant slowly, words that sounded to Flare like ugly curses but that sounded just like "Banette" over and over again to the humans. As Banette's chanting grew faster, a haze of purple energy began to form between her palms. The energy began to glow, reshaping itself into a vague, purple-and-black orb. Then several things happened at once: Banette's eyes suddenly lit up red, her chanting peaked in a final loud wail, and a huge, fierce-looking slitted eye appeared out of the fog of purple. The eye blinked, then glared at Flare, who looked absolutely stricken with terror. The eye glowed, and a volley of glowing blue rings came off of it, flying at Flare. The fiery fox was slammed to her knees - so to speak - by the power of the attack. Her whole body ached with pain, which was coupled and amplified by the poison burning her veins.
[Hex: Banette, -4% Energy; Flare, -12% HP]

Flare got steadily to her paws. She felt tired and cold, and she glared up hatefully at the baleful rain clouds above her. She was annoyed at how Banette had insisted upon darkening the skies above this crumbling arena with rain. Flare decided to do something about it. She concentrated on her prowess with flame, feeling heat rising up into her throat and then her jaws. She opened her mouth slightly to reveal a small nugget of gold light, which her snout sheltered from the steady torrent from above. Her every breath further served to stoke the flame in her mouth and grow it; once it was big enough, Flare lifted her muzzle to the sky and sent the orb of flame flying at the clouds. There was a light, and in seconds the storm set out for parts unknown while the sun came out, making the dilapidated stadium look more stark and less eerie in the star's shining rays.
[Sunny Day: Flare, -7% Energy]

Banette was minorly annoyed about the light - she was a Pokemon of darkness, shadows, and mystery - but she refused to let it bother her too much. Instead, she focused on making her opponent suffer. She raised her hands and began the chant again, forming the ball of purple-black energy which made Flare snarl with dread and loathing. Once again, Banette's eyes lit in tune with her wail and with the opening of the hex-casting eye. This time, the rays released were a richer shade of indigo, but the pain remained the same. The rings burned through Flare's vulnerable and rather shell-shocked body, making her feel sick inside.
[Hex: Banette, -4% Energy; Flare, -12% HP]

But Flare knew that she had to and could push her discomfort aside in order to help her Trainer be victorious. She had lost a good bit of time, to be sure, but that did not mean that there was no catching up. The heat of the sun was making her feel stronger, and she could feel it magnifying the flame inside her. She smiled confidently, then lunged at Banette just as she had done before. Her jaws were wide open, and as Banette watched the little fox approach, she saw that Flare's jaws were suddenly glowing and rippling with blazing red flames. Flare sank her fiery teeth into Banette's arm, causing the ghostly 'mon to howl and writhe with the pain as it blazed - quite literally - all through the limb. Battete shrieked, tossing her arm out as hard as she could. Flare released and skidded through the grass, smirking as she left Banette to nurse her fire-touched arm. Flare smirked, for she had done as the Sunny-D commercials commanded. She had unleashed the power of the sun.
[Fire Fang: Banette, -42% HP; Flare, -5% Energy]

Round III

Flareon, ignoring her lower speed, jumped into action immediately. She focused her energy into the form of fire, and felt it build to a scorching temperature. She then coated her fangs in the fire, and rushed towards the ghost floating before her. The sun beating down on the arena only intensified the flames, and when Flare sank her teeth into the Banette’s other arm, the heat of her attack flared and the Banette shrieked once again in pain, flinging her arm around to rid herself of the Flareon attached to her.
(Flareon > -5 Energy; Banette > -26 HP)

Rather than flinging the Flareon off, however, Banette’s body began to glow orange and she felt the pain from the Fire Fang surging through her, and going back into her arm where Flare was still attached. Focusing on that, Banette pushed all of her pain into that spot. Flare’s eyes opened wide in surprise, and tried to let go and jump back. Banette didn’t allow that however, instead surging the pain from her arm to Flare with a burst of her own energy, sending the Flareon flying back where she landed hard on her side and skidded to a stop.
(Banette > -18 Energy; Flareon > -52 HP)

Banette doubled over from exhaustion and pain after she sent Flare flying. She had just realized how battered she had become, and decided that maybe it was a good time to take a small nap. Backing away from Flare, she sat down and closed her eyes. Shortly, she was fast asleep, and some of her worse wounds were starting to look a little better. As long as she remained asleep, she would feel much better when she woke up.
(Banette > -8 Energy, +20 HP, SLP)

Flare watched her opponent fall asleep, and decided to take a hint from her and heal herself a little bit. Sitting up, she relaxed her stance and focused on the toxin hurting her. The Flareon’s body began to glow blue, and she opened her mouth to emit blue sound waves. Each wave sounded like bells chiming, and it soothed Flare. The sound waves bounced off the walls of the stadium, and reflected back onto Flare. As the sounds calmed her, the Flareon felt the toxin in her body disappearing and she was ready to jump back into the fight.
(Flareon > -7 Energy, cured of TXN)

Jenn will post her moves next, then sammy.

I have calculated, and recalculated, and Fire Fang does not come out to 25% damage at all. It is 17. 65 BP + STAB = 17. 17 x 1.5 = 26. Earlier in the match, Velocity calculated a Fire Fang during Rain. 17 x .5 = 9. If it had done 25% damage, then in Rain it would have been 13%. I don't see how you are getting 25%

3m0d0ll

Math is all messed up, hun. xD

1) If I lost 26% Health from Fire Fang, then Flareon should take 53% damage from Counter. :/ Where did the 17 in your notes come from?

2) Banette should've taken 38% damage from Fire Fang, since it normally does 25%, then you multiply that by 1.5 and round up. :/ Meaning that Counter accurately did 76% damage and Flareon is KO'd.

3) 49 - 26 from Fire Fang = 23 + 20 from Rest = 43, not 32. :/

These changes need to be made before I can post my moves, as Sammy needs to send out his next Pokemon; Banette hasn't used Rest yet--this Round was only two actions, one from each battler. Once Sammy sends out his next 'Mon, then Banette uses Rest.

If you would see the edit in my above post, and explain to me how I am wrong. I checked the compendium and someone had been checking math like this battle, and they had Flamethrower's BP = 25% damage. So I'm not sure what is going on, but Fire Fang does not do that much.

Banette may have been asleep, but that wasn’t going to stop her from continuing the fight with her opponent. Deep within her mind there were areas which had not been permeated by the restoring sleep that had shut down most of her body; it was this part of her that had been determined to hang on, to continue the fight despite the fact that the body was nearly useless. Without the parts of her which made logical decisions or interpreted her trainer’s orders, she was forced to choose an attack she knew completely at random and hope for the best. The move she ended up with wasn’t ideal in that it required her to physically hit the opponent in order for it to work. However, the determination that had gotten the possessed puppet this far hadn’t run out yet – she was going to hit this Flareon and hit her hard. After a couple of twitches to make sure that she had control of her body again, she moved jerkily to her feet and began a lopsided run at Flare. Dark energy swirled around her fist as she went so that one of her hands was coated in the shadows. Her target watched the approach, preparing to make some effort at dodging; her health was already low enough, after all. But then Banette vanished. Everyone blinked and looked again but the fact remained that the pokémon was gone. A second later she was back, but not in the place she had been before; she was next to Flare and had punched her in the side with her dark fist. The orange fox turned with a look of despair on her face; she was too late to do anything now. This wasn’t going well for her.

She now had a chance to replenish her health a little and was going to grasp it with both hands. She closed her eyes and began to mumble a prayer to Arceus, Jirachi and whoever else happened to be listening. A green aura enveloped the praying fox, taking a good deal of energy from her, and then moved away from her body to form an orb, which went on to fly away from the ground and hover above the abandoned stadium like a green sun. Now the Flareon would be healed by quite a bit at the end of the next round – if she could survive until then.

But the ghost-type had other plans, her body may have sagged back down to the ground after the last action but at least part of her mind was still active and eager to cause even more damage to the struggling Flareon. One arm rose above the crumpled body and soon more ethereal energy was swirling around it, creating a ball of tightly packed energy. Banette lazily flicked her wrist, throwing the sphere at Flare; it moved through the air, a writhing mess of blackness that was trying to tear itself apart but was held together by an immensely strong force. It smashed into the wounded eeveelution, hitting the same spot as the punch had. This attack was too much for Flare; the ball had hurt her ribs badly so that she found it difficult to move. She collapsed, on the verge of passing out. “Beaten by a sleeping pokémon,” she thought. “How embarrassing.” While the fox stumbled and fell, the puppet was doing even better than before as new health surged through her. She could certainly put a sizeable dent in whatever came up against her next – as long as she could wake up first.

Round 5

sammy0295 recalled his fallen comrade, throwing a different Poké Ball in its place. The ball burst open in a flash of light, and a yellow Electric-type materialized. As it began to poise for battle, the Jolteon was surprised as 3m0d0ll also opted for a switch - recalling Banette in exchange for a large purple scorpion looking Pokémon. Both new Pokémon stared each other down, ready to destroy the opposition for their Trainer.

Jolteon, being faster, sprung into action, lifting its small head as a small purple orb formed above the creature's mouth. The orb quickly drew in ghastly energies and grew in size, cackling with purple sparks as the size of the orb grew. As the orb grew to be the size of a basketball, Jolteon whipped its head forward, sending the Shadow Ball sliding across the stadium ground. Drapion took the force of the strike as the ball exploded, sending Drapion sliding backwards.

As Drapion slowed down and began to right itself, it faces Jolteon, ready to carry out its orders. Drapion opened its mouth, like Jolteon, but this ball was surrounded by magenta energy, as opposed to the purple of Jolteon. Drapion fired the ball from its mouth into the air, and as the ball flew through the air, a stream of purple smoke left trails in the air. As the orb reached its maximum height, it exploded, showering the field in smaller purple orbs that covered the field. As the orbs fell, they hit the ground and began to slide into the ground itself, leaving a bright magenta flash after they had disapeared. Jolteon looked confused, but Drapion looked confident, as its trap was set.

Jolteon, ignoring the earlier tactic, decided to go back on the offensive, launching yet another Shadow Ball at Drapion. The strike was too fast for Drapion to avoid, and hit the Poison-type head on yet again, but still not dealing terrible amounts of damage. Both Pokémon certainly appeared ready for more.

Jolt, with his superior speed, moved first. He began to tunnel with his little paws, eventually burrowing himself underground. His little feet avoided the rocks as he traveled, totally invisible to his enemy. When he was confident he was behind his foe, he leapt out of the ground, crashing his spiny body into the scorpion. It happened in a split second, and Drapion had no time to react. As Jolt tackled Drapion bellowed in pain, cringing at the spines on Jolt’s neck. The electric pokemon took his place back on the other side of the stadium, fairly happy with the results of his current situation. He flexed his back, removing some stray spines that had been removed during the attack. Then he waited, knowing some major revenge was coming.
(-8% Health, -11% Energy)

Drapion was not happy at all. She knew that her foe was stronger than her, and had to get rid of him. Her trainer had devised a plan that solved just that; albeit in a rather unconventional way. How did Drapion end up learning Whirlwind anyways? She kind of just took a big breath, and when she let it out it was a fearsome blast of wind. The sheer force of the move sent wind flying across the arena, whipping back all pokemon except Drapion. It knocked Jolteon back into its pokeball, by some weird means. Maybe his trainer had recalled him, maybe he ran back in; there was no way to tell how the move actually worked. What just happened? Drapion wondered. She had been so caught up in the move that she hadn’t actually seen what pokemon had come back out. She wasn't even sure if something was going to be coming out. Nothing so far…she thought. Maybe the round is over? Who knows. Drapion put these thoughts out of her head and used the time for a nice long rest.

Round 7

Vapor landed in front of her trainer ready to fight, only to let out a sharp cry of pain as the spikes in the ground dug deeply into her pads. She managed to limp off of the spikes, but there was still a burning substance in her blood that made her shiver feverishly.
[Toxic Spikes: Vapor, +PSN]

Drapion clicked her mandibles together, glaring at the incompetent Vapor. She began to retch and cough, bringing up poison from the glands in her throat. Her tongue twitched with a tingling sensation; as soon as her mouth was full, she spat the acidic poison at Vapor. The Vaporeon was taken by surprise and the liquid toxins drenched her, smelling like a mixture of oil and antifreeze. She yelped as the poison burned her skin. She managed to shake most of it off, but beneath her short, fuzzy fur, her skin continued to tingle and burn.
[Venoshock: Drapion, -5% Energy; Vapor, -8% HP]

Vapor didn't particularly feel like replying to the insult with an injury; her orders went against it anyway. So instead of getting vengeance, she lifted her head to the sky and began to chant. Her voice rose to the cloudy skies, seeming to go straight into the heavens. She finished her chant and sat down calmly, leaving Drapion puzzled. Nothing had happened. Drapion was about to start laughing when distant thunder boomed, and water poured down from the heavens. Vapor smirked; Drapion glowered.
[Rain Dance: Vapor, -7% Energy]

Drapion refused to let the pouring rain put her off. She began to gather a mouthful of poison again, shuffling closer to her opponent so as not to let the rain ruin the spray of poison. She then spat yet another jet of venom at Vapor. Once again, the Vaporeon squealed as the venom responded to the poison in her blood - though the pain was less lingering this time, due to the rain that washed her fur.
[Venoshock: Drapion, -5% Energy; Vapor, -8% HP]

But Vapor wasn't finished - far from it. She opened her mouth, calling on the power of water once again. The rain around her seemed to gravitate toward her, seeping into her and giving her strength. A boiling hot tide spewed from Vapor's guts, sending a wave of super-heated water flying at Drapion through the rain. The scorpion screeched in surprise as the stinging water billowed around her. It was gone in a few seconds, but it left her smarting - and her side was throbbing. She stifled a groan as she realized that she had been burned by effing water.

Figuring that her opponent might try and heal herself or boost her stats, Damon decided to act in advance to stop her. A wide grin spread across her face and she called out a selection of insults and putdowns at Vapor. The Vaporeon growled at the stream of abuse. Who did this Drapion think she was? There was no way she was going to stand there and be insulted like that; she was going to wipe that stupid smirk off of that face of hers.

However, her orders were to follow a more peaceful course of action and heal herself. She decided that she’d give it a go, but she wasn’t pinning much hope on it working. She shut her eyes so that she could focus her energy on healing. A small ball of energy began to grow in front of the water dweller; its size and colour changed with each passing moment while she tried to gain control of it. Unfortunately, just as she was able to wrestle the energy into submission, the Drapion’s smirking face filled her vision and made her lose focus and control. The ball of energy exploded, knocking her off her feet. Damon watched, still smiling. Her plan was working so far.

But her wounds from earlier hurt her a lot; she needed a good bit of rest to recover from her injuries before she could start doing anything more. So the ogre scorp lay down behind some of the taller grass to give herself some cover before falling into a deep, unbreakable sleep.

Vapor had just about had enough. First this Drapion taunted and insulted her and now it was falling asleep in the middle of their battle. She was going to teach the brute some manners in a way he wouldn’t forget. Water and salt filled her mouth, creating a foul tasting mixture. Once the salt had all dissolved, Vapor spat out the liquid as forcefully as she could. She also spat a few times after that to get rid of the taste, but that part isn’t important. The salty water shot through the grass unhindered and caught the sleeping Drapion in the chest. As it happened, Vapor’s anger had meant that the attack was even stronger than it normally would have been. As well as this, the salty water got into some of Damon’s unhealed wounds, making her groan in agony despite his sleep. She rolled over and then was still. The attack had done too much damage before she had been able to heal – it was over for her.

Despite her pokémon’s defeat, 3m0d0ll didn’t seem too upset. She still seemed to be in quite a good mood as she recalled the crumpled Drapion and pulled out her third and final poké ball. She tossed it through the air and it landed on the untamed grass, filling the air with light. A furry humanoid appeared in front of Vapor, a small smile on his face. The two battlers looked each other in the eye – ready to continue the battle.

Except that sammy didn’t want Vapor to fight when she would be at such a disadvantage. She pulled the Vaporeon’s poké ball from her pocket and recalled the fish-dog before she could be harmed. Then she reached for another ball – Jolt’s ball. The lightning pokémon sped out of the flash of light which heralded his arrival. His triumphant arrival was cut short only by a couple of yelps as he trod on the pointed spikes which had been scattered around his teams feet by Drapion. Wincing as the poison coursed through his blood, he turned to face Doctor, who faltered a little as he took in the details of his new opponent. He had been expecting to go up against a water-type; this would be something completely different.

Nevertheless, he wasn’t going to let it get the better of him. A torrent of abuse flowed from the grinning Electivire, making Jolt’s blood boil as rage flooded his system. He couldn’t stand being treated like that by anyone, let alone another battler. His mind started to become unfocused as clouds of rage began to circles; he wouldn’t be able to string together two of the same attack at this rate.

Fortunately, he wouldn’t have to at the moment. All he needed to do was dig his way to the smirking Electivire and hit him as hard as he could. He began to claw at the ground beneath him, tearing out chunks of grass and soil as he did. Dirt filled the air as the Jolteon burrowed his way under the ground. Soon he had disappeared into the hole he had created and Doctor was left looking slightly puzzled – he had expected the dog to at least try and fight him. He shook his head, wondering what his opponent was up to. He wasn’t waiting long. Jolt burst out of the ground beneath him, pummelling him with his paws. The Electivire stumbled back; he was a little surprised by the outburst. However, he did have the satisfaction of knowing that he would get his own back soon.

Electricity crackled around his fist as he prepared his counterattack. His hefty body was illuminated by the energy coming off the powered fist. Jolt frowned, trying to figure out what on earth his opponent was doing. Doctor didn’t seem to notice the Jolteon’s confusion; his smile only grew wider as the power of his attack grew. Finally, with a bone-shattering bellow, he leapt at Jolt and smashed him in the side with his fist. The lightning-hound grunted as the wind was knocked out of him, but didn’t feel any pain at all; his body had absorbed the attack completely. Doctor stepped back, his smile had disappeared for the first time so far in the battle. He couldn’t believe that he’d forgotten something so simple. Fortunately, Jolt didn’t quite get off as freely as he wanted either; he was soon doubled over in pain as the poison he had been inflicted with attacked his body. Neither pokémon was doing as well as they would have wanted, but the battle was still far from over. Anything could still happen.

Determined not to let his opponent get the better of him again, Doctor began to scream at Jolt. A torrent of abuse filled the air, making the Jolteon’s fur begin to prickle. He growled at the Electivire but the thunderbolt pokémon only continued to heap on the insults, knowing that his plan was working. This went on for several minutes before Jolt decided to stop growling; he would have to show his annoyance in some other way.

However, his orders were to use an attack that would cause damage to his target over several rounds. He didn’t want that. He wanted to hit him as hard as he could as many times as he could. Nevertheless, he had to at least try and follow his orders. Deadly poisons began to form in his stomach, only to break apart again when Doctor’s arrogant smirk caught his eye. He snarled at the cocky Electivire, barely restraining himself from attacking.

His orders for the next action were no better. He half-heartedly began to run around Doctor, trying to melt into a blur. Unfortunately, he couldn’t focus on building up his speed enough to do so and the only thing that actually built up was his annoyance. He gave up on tactics and jumped at the Electivire, electricity crackling through his spiky fur. The humanoid caught the snarling hound with his tail and tossed him back to the ground; the throw wasn’t hard enough to hurt Jolt but it was enough to keep him still for a moment.

Now it was time for Doctor to take his move. His foot slammed into the ground, making the ground around him tremble. Ripples appeared in the grass, moving towards the motionless Jolteon. The dog groaned as the earth moved beneath him; he hadn’t wanted this at all. Then he began to clutch his stomach as poison attacked his gut. He threw up in the grass but most of the poison stayed in his body, ready to attack again later. Things certainly weren’t looking too good for the Jolteon.

Round Ten

Doctor was ready, by this time, to do some real damage to Jolt. Starting out with a quick-yet damaging attack, he dashed across the field, his short-yet strong legs powering him toward his foe. Before Jolt had a chance to react properly, Doctor swept one of those aforementioned legs beneath Jolt's paws. Jolt yelped with surprise as his legs were swept out from under him. He fell gracelessly on his side, slamming hard into the tough ground. Jolt grunted, managing to stagger upright but feeling rather bruised on his side. He glared at Doctor, ready to retaliate.
[Low Sweep: Doctor, -8% Energy; Jolt, -12% HP, -1 SPD]

Jolt began to dig into the earth, the same ground that had made his fall painful now his cover and the point of his whole attack. Jolt burrowed underground at top speed, throwing up dirt until all that was left of him was a hole. Doctor frowned at the earth, trying to figure out where his opponent would strike. However, that was useless. While he was pondering, Jolt leaped up in a shower of earth, slamming powerfully into Doctor's side. Jolt and Doctor landed in two different ways - Doctor on his back and Jolt on graceful paws. Jolt smirked - payback was sweet.
[Dig: Doctor, -16% HP; Jolt, -14% Energy]

Doctor was far from ready to let this little yellow dog show him up and actually do more damage. Jolt was in way over his pointy little ears and Doctor was about to show him why. The Electivire smashed a huge foot into the ground, causing the earth to ripple. A wave of moving ground, spraying rocks and huge dirt clods, headed right for Jolt, who shrieked in alarm but was too late to run. He was forced to endure the barrage of the moving earth, then forced to be yet again knocked off his paws by the rippling wave of soil. Jolt snarled in anger, peeling himself off the ground and frowning at his scratches and at his soiled coat.
[Earthquake: Doctor, -10% Energy; Jolt, -24% HP]

Jolt was not to be outdone. The power had been ramping up all round, and now Jolt was ready to take the last step. He opened his mouth, and a small ray of white light shone out of his jaws. This ray of light, with a quick flash, transformed into a rampaging ray of orange energy that spewed from Jolt's jaws, blasting Doctor with a surge of pure, searing, agonizing energy. Doctor howled with pain as the energy burned him. However, when the blast faded, it was Jolt who seemed worst for wear - the cost of using the attack had left Jolt weak and tired.

Doctor began the new round with a cunning new plan. Now that his opponent was beginning to flag, he was certain that he would try and heal himself fairly soon; the plan was simply to prevent this from happening. With this goal in mind, he began to hurl abuse at the Jolteon, trying to make his blood boil. It seemed to work. Jolt was nearly unable to restrain himself once again after just a few seconds. Old anger flared up, causing the dog to want nothing more that to tear the Electivire’s smug smile off of his face.

However, his next orders did not agree with his wishes. His trainer had told him to try and go to sleep in an attempt to regain some health. Jolt lay down in the grass and shut his eyes, but, whenever he did, Doctor’s grinning face filled his vision. He was feeling far too angry to sleep, but kept trying anyway since he didn’t want to disappoint his trainer. Doctor watched the lightning hound as he tossed and turned – it seemed that he wasn’t going to get any rest at the moment.

While the Jolteon continued his futile attempts to get some sleep, his opponent began to dig through the stadium ground. The bulky electric-type tunnelled through the thick grass roots until he could feel Jolt thrashing on the ground above him. An even wider grin spread across his face as he burst up through the soil, catching the dog with a punch to the side. Jolt yelped and shot away from his assailant; the attack had hurt so much that he thought one of his ribs was broken. He stumbled a little but managed to just about stay upright. The two pokémon stood watching each other until Jolt got over the shock and his anger returned – and by jingo was he feeling angry.

But he still wasn’t able to do anything about it – his orders would only work if he was asleep. A scream flooded the abandoned stadium in sound as the dog released the anger he had built up. Shaking as he did so, he looked into Doctor’s eyes and felt what could only be hate. He hated this Electivire and wanted nothing more to stab him straight through the chest. This hatred reached its peak as poison flared through his blood once again, making him burn on the inside. Jolt was weakening quickly now, but he was still determined to fight until the end.
