Minimize~Mud Bomb
Cinder leaps forward with a growl, ready to lay a beatdown. Her mouth fills with natural flames which escape between the teeth, and when she opens it a torrent of fire comes rushing out and washes over Muk. As a very slow Pokemon, Muk can do little but sit there and wait it out. Unfortunately for all involved, the heat also increases Muk’s stink, which you, Houndoom, and the Ranger all wrinkle your noses at.
Cinder refuses to let up, but that doesn’t stop Muk from taking her own action. Her body consists of large piles of slime which, while essential over the long term, can be separated from her for a short period of time. She relaxes her body, allowing the sludge to slide off and greatly decrease her physical size. Though most of her weight is in the core of her body, which remains, she is now much smaller, and as a result, a harder target to hit. Unfortunately for Muk, she’s already caught under Cinder’s flames, and thus continues to take damage until finally Cinder stops to catch her breath.
The unusually long Flamethrower finished, Muk unleashes a proper attack of her own. The concrete of the road behind her begins to crack, and then split apart, revealing the dirt underneath. As the asphalt flies apart, the dirt visibly liquefies, becoming instant mud. Muk’s mighty arms steadily rise, causing all of that mud to rise with them, compressed into a ball. She swings in a throwing motion, and like a rocket the mud flies forward, directly targeting Cinder. Ordinarily a Mud Bomb like this would hit the ground in front of Cinder, due to natural inaccuracy, and hit her with the backlash, but instead Muk seems to have gotten lucky, and it hits her head on. The mud explodes on contact with her face, releasing both a concussive force and a wave of mud focused on her. She’s knocked back and onto her side, and although she manages to stand, she’s clearly taken a significantly heavy hit.

Houndoom, although still covered in mud, decides to get back on the offensive. This time, Houndoom inhales deeply, taking in a large breath of air. It holds the air in its mouth, making it hotter with every passing second. Soon, Houndoom shot back a blast of painfully hot air, which melting the concrete as it flew onto Muk. The attack was certainly painful but not unbearable, although the stink in the arena did siginficantly increase.
[Heat Wave: Houndoom, -9 Energy; Muk, -12 HP]
Hurting from the onslaught of fire, Muk had little willpower. Rather, using the mud from its previous strike, Muk lazily waved its arm at Houndoom, sending a significantly smaller portion of mud at the dog-like Pokémon. This time, the mud contacted directly with Houndoom's face - the Fire-type sprawled backward, as it was not blind. Despite this, she attempted to attack - her mouth filled again, this time with a ghastly blue flame. As opposed to a long stream of fire, smaller, contained fireballs were set off in a volley towards Muk. However, Houndoom's eyesight was too poor to see, and the assault hit nowhere near Muk. She did however, almost burn the Ranger and the Trainers involved.
[Mud-Slap: Houndoom, -4 HP, -1 ACC; Muk, -2 Energy]
[Will-O-Wisp: Houndoom, -3 Energy;]
Feeling more confident now, the wild Muk struck the ground again, drawing more mud up from within the earth. Another large ball was formed and thrown by the Poison-type, hitting its mark once again. While this strike did not do nearly as much damage, Houndoom was rather frustrated, and now dipping with stinking mud.

Despite the fact that this Muk seems incredibly hard to capture, you decide to have a go. After rummaging around in your bag for a while, you find a poké ball and toss it at the stinking creature, who doesn’t react to it. It sinks about an inch into her sludgy body before splitting and sucking her in. It falls to the ground and shakes for less than a second before opening again. Muk reappears with an angry look on her face – she wanted revenge for that.
However, she allows her head to overrule her heart this time. She begins to store energy beneath her thick layer of slime, creating a protective layer. She hopes that it will be able to protect her from any attacks from Cinder.
As it happened, the Houndoom is preparing for an attack. Fire fills her snarling mouth as she tries to figure out where her opponent was. She blinks, trying to get the dirt out of her eye, and thinks that she sees her target. Flames erupt from between her jaws, enveloping her target and just about destroying it. The flames died away and a twisted, misshaped lamp post is revealed. Muk begins to giggle – her plan to stop her opponent from hitting her seems to be working.
Now isn’t the time for her to celebrate though. She continues to build up her layer of energy so that it can insulate her from any attacks that do manage to hit her.
With nothing better to try, you decide to attempt another capture. The second ball flies through the air and hits Muk on the head. There is a sound like porridge being thrown against a wall and then the poisonous beast is sucked into the poké ball. Unfortunately, she breaks out before the ball hits the ground. This time, rather than becoming angry, she laughs; it’s obvious that she was beginning to think of this as a joke.
Rather than continuing to build up her layer of energy, Muk now reabsorbs the energy so that she can rebuild her body tissues and so heal herself. She smiles smugly at you, as if attempting to taunt you.

As you run down the twisting maze of streets, an ethereal glow from one of the alleys catches your eye. When you take a closer look, you realise that it is a pokémon. The Rotom looks back at you, sparking angrily, and you realise that you’re going to have to battle it before it starts throwing random thunderbolts at you. Not that you mind – you’d probably try and capture it in any case.
You give Cinder her orders quickly and she steps forward into an aggressive pose. Purple flames begin to appear around her mouth and she forms small fireballs, which she releases into orbits around Rotom. The poltergeist is unable to dodge as they converge on it, somehow burning its incorporeal body. It chirps slightly but seems mainly unaffected... for now.
So the ghost goes about its ordinary strategy for dealing with predators which are bigger than it is. Electricity crackles around its body and moves out in a wave, washing over Cinder before she has time to react. The electricity is absorbed by the dog’s body and goes straight to the nerves. The signals they carry are made scrambled and end up in the wrong places. You can tell what’s happened by the sudden stiffness you see in your pokémon’s limbs: she’s been paralysed.
With this stiffness now in place, Rotom is able to move more quickly than Cinder, allowing it to get the first strikes. The phantasm begins to chant ominously and a black aura grows around it. A flicker of pain appears on Cinder’s face, and this quickly turns into a mask of agony. Even though she is unable to make a sound, you can see how much she is being hurt by whatever her opponent is doing.
However, the pain is not enough for her to overcome her paralysis, so she is unable to even take a single shot at her opponent. This seems to frustrate her, but there is nothing she can do about for the time being except bide her time.

Before Cinder is able to recover control of her body, Rotom begins to chant again, bringing similar displays of pain from the fiery hound. The black shroud pulses ominously around your opponent’s body the same as before, but something a little different happens this time: Cinder’s body begins to shake from the pain. As the malevolent song dies down, the Houndoom seems to realise that she is no longer prevented from moving.
For a moment she looks as though she’s about to collapse, but then she corrects herself and begins to draw in shadows from the corners of the alley, concentrating them into a large orb, which she seems to balance on the tip of her nose. Then she tosses it towards Rotom, who is helpless to avoid it in such a confined space. However, he doesn’t need to; while still celebrating the ability to use her limbs, Cinder had not aimed as well as she normally would have, and the pulse had gone wide, smashing the wall of a nearby building.
Rotom seemed to sigh with relief before starting to mumble to itself for the third time. Black energy enveloped the ball of plasma and lightning and Cinder screwed up her face in agony and howled, begging for it to stop. When it did, she was near her limit; another one of those would finish her for good – she had to make her next move count.
More shadows were drawn towards her, creating another large ball. She balanced it perfectly and carefully aimed, not wanting to miss again when she needed to hit so badly. She flicked her head and the ball was fired at Rotom, who still had nowhere to go. The ball smashed the ghost into a wall, cracking the concrete behind it. A cry of pain showed that it had been hurt significantly, but it still wasn’t as badly damaged as your pokémon. At least the paralysis now seemed to have disappeared, but it would still be dangerous to drag this battle out for too much longer.

Dino bit his lip. The Rotom was still relatively healthy, even considering the singed patch on its carapace. However, he feared that Cinder wasn't going to last much longer. He decided that, however risky it was, he was going to at least make an attempt at capturing this rare Pokemon. He tugged a Pokeball out of his pocket and tossed it at the Rotom, who was quickly sucked inside by a beam of red lite. Dino held his breath as the Pokeball fell onto the road and began to wobble and shake. Seconds like minutes passed, and suddenly the ball went still as a stone and let out a little ping. Dino let out a sigh of relief. He had caught Rotom!

The Kirlia slipped out of a shady alley, looking a little bit annoyed at Dino and Cinder's intrusion. Dino focused immediately; this could be his last opportunity for a capture. Hypnosis
Since Kirlia didn’t seem to be interested in fighting back for the moment, Cinder went in for another blow. The dark dog leapt forwards, unleashing another stream of dark energy from her gaping maw. This time, much more energy seemed to issue forth from the Houndoom’s mouth; Kirlia seemed to notice this and raised his arms in just about enough time to protect his face. Even this wasn’t enough to protect him though - the pure power of the attack picked him up and threw him against a wall. He groaned in pain, which was fair enough: the attack had been incredibly strong, and collapsed to the ground.
He eventually managed to get back to his feet, Cinder only holding back from attacking because she knew her trainer wanted to capture the poor creature. As Kirlia stumbled forwards, his eyes began to glow red; this caught his opponent’s attention and the Houndoom looked straight into them... only to find that she couldn’t look away. As she stared into the glowing red eyes, her eyelids became heavier and heavier. The hellhound slowly succumbed to slumber, collapsing onto the tarmac as the exhaustion overwhelmed her. It was difficult to blame her really, she was tired and battle-damaged after multiple battles, surely some rest wouldn’t be a bad thing. Kirlia smiled a little as he leant against the wall of a building, maybe this wasn’t going as badly as he thought.
