View Full Version : The Official Euro 2012 Football Thread

06-08-2012, 03:08 PM

That is right, this is the official thread for all the discussion and speculation for this years Euro 2012.

Post here you match predictions or even who you want to win the competition. Match time commentary is allowed, however refrain from posting posts like: 'Nice Tackle'

Also, I am willing to host a small sweepstate. Which is where you are given a random team in the competition and hope that they win the final. The winner will receive something from me. Just post below if you want to be involved.

You lovely little jam! I never see any football-related threads here. Thank you! *hugs into submission*

Now that I have that out of the way - sure, sign me up for the sweepstake! Even though I'll be cheering for England all the way :L

This thread makes me so happy :') lol

Ha yeah, I'm from England as well, so I'll be routing for England. I'll add you right away.

I wanted to get this up before, however I didn't have much time. At least I got it up before the first match started.

Russia's gonna wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin. :cheeky:

Greece beating Poland would be nice also, cause of all the turmoil in Greece as of late. Football's a great way of uniting people and giving them hope.

But yeah, I'm stoked. Gonna try and watch the first couple of matches today.

06-08-2012, 04:35 PM
Hm... England against France on Monday - why do I get the feeling that we're gonna get railed?

'Twas a shame about Defoe - don't think he'll play for a while due to the family issues he's had.

06-08-2012, 05:59 PM
Yeah, I'm not looking forward to the France game.

On another note, I really do believe now that after watching Poland vs Greece, Russia or Czech Republic have to surely advance through to the the quarters

06-08-2012, 07:38 PM
Russia's gonna do really good this year.

Poland vs Greece: What an opener. It had it all - goals, controversy and even some comedy in the form of Georgio Samaras lol. The sending off for the Greek was very soft, and I think an extra man could have made the difference. Poland looked the far better side, but all credit to Greece for equalising while a goal and a man down. Szczesny had a bit of a howler, but Tyton made up for it with a save. I had this game as a 0-0 draw, so I got the result right :)

Czech Republic vs Russia: One of the more noticeable things was how good all of the goals were. Russia had some pretty poor finishing and could have easily scored another two or three, but I guess that's how football works. I predicted Russia to win 3-1 so although I once again got the result correct, the score was slightly off.

Tomorrow, I think Holland will win 4-0 and Germany will win 1-0.

And finally, using the UEFA websites tournament predictor, this is how I think the knockout rounds will play out (winners in caps)

RUSSIA vs Germany
SPAIN vs England
HOLLAND vs Czech Republic
FRANCE vs Italy

RUSSIA vs Spain
HOLLAND vs France

HOLLAND vs Russia

Good news - Defoe has returned with the team after two days back at England. However, his father's just died, so I don't see his form being great for a while. My best wishes with him and his family.

I'd say Portugal vs Germany could be a tough one - maybe 1-1 or 2-2?

Wanting Ireland to do well - I don't think I've ever seen them in a big Tournament. Hoping they beat Croatia tomorrow :)

Tomorrow, I think Holland will win 4-0

Really? ;)

Good news - Defoe has returned with the team after two days back at England. However, his father's just died, so I don't see his form being great for a while. My best wishes with him and his family.

It's good to see Defoe back, shame we might not see him in action or on the bench against the French.

06-09-2012, 07:07 PM

I think Welbeck and Young are starting for us, I'm sure Defoe will be ready for the Sweden game, however.

Predicting 2-1 Spain over Italy and 1-0 Croatia over Ireland.

06-11-2012, 06:33 AM

I was #124 worldwide on the Euro 2012 predictor, and I got the last game as 2-1. Of course, they have to score another goal :( #185 now, but that's still amazing.

Looking forward to watching England later, I'm calling it as 2-2.

06-11-2012, 06:54 AM
England's gonna win 2-1.

And I'm gonna say Sweden over Ukraine 2-0.

06-11-2012, 01:38 PM
England gonna lose 2-0. I really don't see them beating France - we struggled against both Norway and Belgium. We need more moulding together in my opinion.

Gonna say Sweden 1-0 over Ukraine just because PewDiePie's Swedish and I know not much about either team xD

06-12-2012, 05:31 AM
Ehh, I'll take a draw.

06-12-2012, 09:16 AM
France vs. England... boring match, lol. Kind of reminded me of the CL final.

06-16-2012, 04:10 PM
Crazy that England almost lost to Sweden, eh?

06-16-2012, 04:37 PM
Not really. First time England had beat Sweden in a competitive game ever. They've always been a real bogey side for us.

Welbeck's finish was sublime, and Walcott's goal was a real cracker. Both deserved to win the match for us.

06-16-2012, 06:14 PM
Who do you think's gonna win today? I hope Russia takes group A and the Czechs follow them into the next round.

06-17-2012, 03:21 AM
Well you got one right...

06-17-2012, 05:48 AM

There are no words...

06-17-2012, 07:42 AM
I've got 3.

Lol dem Greeks

06-17-2012, 10:28 PM
Worst tournament ever for the Dutch...

Worst Euro ever imo...

06-18-2012, 02:01 PM
2004 when Greece won it?

06-18-2012, 02:07 PM
I hope Croatia goes through over Italy...

06-18-2012, 02:43 PM
Worst tournament ever for the Dutch...

I agree - seems a shame. 2010 they came second in World Cup - in the Euro's they've just crashed ._. Germany seem to have a strong team this year! Finalists perhaps?

Ireland to qualify tonight :L (hehehe)

06-18-2012, 03:07 PM
Ireland could score 130+ goals today and still not qualify for the next round.

Germany's probably gonna win.

06-19-2012, 06:44 AM
Holland just fell apart, didn't they?

Bit disappointed with Poland; we played well in patches but not so for most of your last match, and our coach made some questionable choices too. Ah well...

06-19-2012, 07:26 AM
Well, judgement day for Woy.

Win & Top the group -> Expectations skyrocket and anything below a semi is a failure

Win & come 2nd -> "We're on a roll and should easily win to the semis"

Draw -> Best solution IMO

Lose - He's the worst manager, why didn't we go with Taxdodging Harry

06-19-2012, 09:22 AM
Roy's been a great manager so far - he's given us some great results and has given us hope. We're not a great team yet, but I reckon he could do it. England to win 3-0

06-19-2012, 03:28 PM
Rooney's back in today, right?

06-19-2012, 04:56 PM
Yeah, probably starting for Carroll.

06-19-2012, 09:01 PM
I do love a good controversy <3

Right team won in the end, give them their "goal" and we'll have the 2 good penalty shouts we never got given.

06-19-2012, 09:29 PM
Our possession was terrible, but hey, we won. A few close calls

I really don't see Italy winning - their form isn't amazing lately, is it?

06-19-2012, 10:57 PM
I reckon if we beat Italy then karma will give us a spectacular goal that doesn't actually cross the line against Germany to put us in the final.

06-20-2012, 02:01 PM
My picks are Czech Republic (for fun lol), Germany, France, and England.

06-20-2012, 02:48 PM
Yeah, goalline technology and so forth really should have already been implemented, and I feel there's workarounds for each argument against it too, tbh. And now Blatter says such technology is a necessity. A bit late, Blatter! -_-

I only really cared about Poland so as they are out I have not much else to support. =p

How about the first goal against France btw? That was a screamer.

06-22-2012, 04:08 AM
Portugal vs the Czechs was pretty dull, made even worse by the BBC commentary.

Germany vs Greece, only 1 logical conclusion here...

06-22-2012, 06:06 PM
Obviously the logical conclusion is Greece.

And I agree, almost fell asleep watching CZE-POR...

06-24-2012, 11:33 AM
Oh wow. A football thread.
Did anybody watch yesterday's match? (silly question:oops:)
And so do we have any Spain supporters? :]

06-24-2012, 02:02 PM
Why the French didn't start Nasri is beyond me.
