As I watched my icy Mirror recover from the Air Slash of the Farfetch'd. I needed to come up with a quick plan to narrow down its health.
The Ice Beam must of slowed down the brown bird and reduce as much damage as possible. I sure love my Cryogonal. Lots and Lots <3 The Farfetch'd is too fast, I thought.

"I need to come up with something to narrow its health down even more." I said to myself. I know I can rely on Crygonal to perform. As the bird squawked at the Ice cold beam. I noticed its leek stem started to charge at my icicle mirror. Therefore, this would cause devastation.

"Oh dear," I said to Cryogonal. "Are you okay?" As the leek was picked up by Farfetch'd again, Cryogonal shivered for a moment. Then, my Pokemon turned around and nodded in a mysterious levitiational nod.
"Cryogonal, quickly use Substitute!" I shouted at the top of my voice. "Let's make that crazy bird that two can be tougher than one!" Cryogonal used to roam free and alone before it became my Pokemon. The mirror creature used to always tell me about its past. Therefore, we combined forces to conquer the Pokemon ladder to greatness. I frequently reminisce of how I protected Cryogonal from an evil poacher who tried to capture it. Then , that’s when it hit me that we were meant to be!

“Cryogonal, you can do it,” I shouted. “I believe in you!”

"I need to come up with something to narrow its health down even more," Chris said, more to himself than me or his Pokemon. He seemed to weigh his options before turning to his rare Ice Pokemon.

I didn't pay much attention to what Chris was saying, but as an observer I could tell that two shared a closer than normal bond. I remembered from Chris's file that he had acquired the Pokemon not too long ago, so it was possible that something happened when he caught the Pokemon that made them close.

Chris gave the Pokemon some words of encourage then called out a Substitute command, which protect Cryogonal from losing too much health from one attack or a combination of attacks. Substitute was where the host Pokemon made a completely copy of its self by using its own health. It was a useful move for dodging status attacks and limiting damage. I would have to see how Chris used it here.

The Farfetch saw Cryogonal use the Substitute and saw an opening. It brought its leek hard upon the ice covering it, taking slight damage, but clearing the ice from its wings and feet. Free from the icy tendrils, the Flying Pokemon launched itself at Crygonal, its natural weapon held before it. The Pokemon squawked again and brought the look down upon Cryogonal, hitting the substitute.

Both Pokemon eyed each other wearily as they waited for the other to move first.

As I watched Cryogonal levitating in the cold air, I was anticipating the Substitute’s presence. It would be awesome to have twin Cryogonal! However, this icy mirror is top notch all by itself. I added thumbs up to my mirror creature.

“Cry,” Cryogonal whispered, and caught my attention. It seemed to be preparing its Substitute techniques. This would mean my Cryogonal would cut twenty five % of its overall health and stream it to keep the clone icy mirror alive. I watched Gaius closely behind me, and he seemed to not be listening to me as much as I would have of liked. I guess that is a bit attention seeking of me, alas I wanted to get to know my Ranger a little better.

As I encouraged Cryogonal some more I called out my Substitute command and watched Cryogonal perform. However, I did feel a little guilty when it removed some health from this special manoeuvre. I noticed that the copy Cryogonal was formed and my plan was put into place. Substitute protection works wonder and protects from many Status Problems. Therefore, no more sleep, paralysis, burn, freeze, or poison for my trusty mirror, Cryogonal.

I remember before when Cryogonal was poisoned. It was back when we were battling a Drapion. The Drapion ferociously used Poison Fang and crunched my creature sharply in the centre of its crystal, blue body. As I shrieked as Cryogonal was in so much, and it struggled to levitate as much. Suddenly, I noticed big, toxicities purple bubbles. Therefore, the bubbles had poisoned and bubbled around the Ice-Type Pokemon. I was so worried; I swore to myself I would never let this happen again! I also pledged to Cryogonal that I would try my absolute best and use all my strength to negate him from being poisoned.

Therefore, that is why I chose Substitute. This would protect the mirror from a possible Toxic attack. However, Farfetch’d might get crafty and destroy the Substitute first and then launch an attack like this. I watched closely as Cryogonal and the Cryogonal clone levitated through the cold air. Suddenly, I noticed Farfetch’d brought its leek, which was covered in ice and launched it at my precious mirror. I was gobsmacked as it sliced the Substitute. The sharp attack dented the mirror. My Cryogonal substitute was bashed across the air and shook in pain. It did not seem like a lot, but it seemed to have caused a lot of pain. Now, it was payback time
I then turned back and stared over at the fuzzy duck across the land again. This naughty duck creature was going to pay. Farfetch’d have been known for being mischievous and I did not trust that fuzzy duck one bit. I guess I have to hit it hard.

“Crygonal,” I said, and waved. “Be careful, it must be scheming something.” I had to warn Cryogonal just in case it went reckless. I had an idea now! I could use my clone to attack Farfetch’d and use my original Cryogonal to recover from previous damage with a special power known as Recover.

“Cryogonal clone,” I shouted, and waved. “Prepare an Ice Shard.” The Ice Shard attack would have a priority if it would be performed right! I scratched my head and thought to myself. “I wonder if I can pull this off.”
“Cryogonal lets recover some of that energy of yours,” I shouted, and said. “Use Recover!” I had bundles of confidence in this routine. (Sounds like I am in a Contest, but I am not!) I clenched my fist and pointed in the direction of the fuzzy duck, Farfetch’d. Cryogonal and Substitute Cryogonal use Ice Shard and Recover like I said before. Let’s do this. The cold air was getting to my skin, perhaps I should have brought a jumper.
“Gaius,” I said. “Do you have a spare jumper I could borrow?” I guess all the icy conditions from Cryogonal make me cold.

“Crygonal,” Chris said, and waved. “Be careful, it must be scheming something. Cryogonal clone,” Chris shouted, and waved. “Prepare an Ice Shard.”

I thought this was an interesting choice. Substitutes couldn't do too much at all because of what they were, but since they were a portion of the original Pokemon's life force, they could do certain movements. The substitute could launch an Ice Shard, but it would be like a hologram and pass right through the Farfetch without doing any damage. I'm sure Chris knew this, so I could only surmise he just wanted to distract the Farfetch while he did something else.

“Cryogonal lets recover some of that energy of yours,” Chris shouted next. “Use Recover! Gaius,” he said, looking over at me. “Do you have a spare jumper I could borrow?”

Luckily for him, as a Ranger I was prepared for almost every situation one could encounter out here. I reached into my pack and tossed him the item to place over his clothing.

I turned back to the battle just as the clone Cryogonal fired off the Ice Shard. The Farfetch looked at the Ice Shard coming towards it and simply payed it no mind. As Cryogonal focused on recovering its lost health, the bird Pokemon started to use its leek to draw in the dirt. Once he had completed what he was drawing he started to dance about. A moment or two later the sun started to shine brightly. I immediately felt the heat.

It was a smart move by the Flying type. The sunny weather would stop Cryogonal from freezing the Pokemon again.

I watched my icy Cryogonal Substitute prepare the sharp, shiny Ice Shard. I thought this would be a good distraction, whilst the real Cryogonal recovered from damage. Therefore, making Farfetch’d worried. However, that fuzzy, brown Farfetch’d been a scheming one. However, it is not invincible! All Pokemon have its limits. For example, I remember when my Crobat was at such low health due to taking a Rock Slide attack. The rocks and tumbled down on my poisonous bat but the attack of a Rhydon for dangerous. It crashed to the ground in the hot, volcano. This was because it lived there and was a wild one. I was so worried about my Crobat that I called out and cheered. My poisonous Crobat knew what to do and instantly used Roost. Therefore, outsmarting that dumb Rhydon and owning it with Giga Drain! Crobat absorbed lots of damage off of Rhydon and won the battle! I was so proud, and therefore believed in all of my Pokemon. This is because they try their hardest with every battle they are in! Now Cryogonal will be the same here and come out on top of all these wild Pokemon in the Park!

As I asked Gaius for a jumper. I rubbed my arms quickly in the cold temperature and suddenly he responded with actions. He opened his back pack and unzipped it quickly. He tossed over through the cold air a jumper. I wrapped it around me to keep me warm!

“Thanks, Gaius,” I said and gave a thumbs up. “This should keep me warm and I’ll repay the favour back soon!” I wonder how I could repay my ranger, Gaius? I thought to myself. Anyways, I looked up at both Cryogonal, and Cryogonal Substitute. I watched the Substitute, icy mirror blast out an Ice Shard. The fuzzy duck, Farfetch’d looked at it and seemed to not be fazed. It simply shot straight towards it. Farfetch’d seemed to not be bothered and dazed off the Ice Shard illusion. In the background my Cryogonal was focusing on recovering its health. The recovery would be good for future battles, and Cryogonal could be at better strength. Suddenly, the fuzzy, brown duck grabbed its leek to draw the dirt. I wondered what this creature could be scheming now. The dirt was scrubbed about and the sunshine started to shiny brightly. I looked up as the clouds cleared and the temperature suddenly got really warm.

“So much for the icy temperatures,” I said out loud. “Cryogonal be careful, we cannot use your Ice-cold moves as effective here. I quickly took off Gaius’ spare jumper and tossed it back. Hopefully he captured it.

“Here, Gaius hold on to it for now,” I said and thanked. “Thanks so much for the assistance!” Cryogonal seemed a little depressed at the bright sunshine, which reflected off its icy mirror like body. “Cheer up Cryogonal,” I said with some encouragement. “No need to be down.”

“I have an idea but that Farfetch’d is becoming a pain now!” I said and shouted. “Cryogonal, let’s do this!” Cryogonal nodded as the sun shone brightly over the battlefield. Cryogonal levitated across the scorched air and pierced its dark eyes at the fuzzy, brown duck, “Cryogonal,” I said. “Let’s try a special move nobody would expect!” I smiled and laughed a little. I liked to goof around. “Cryogonal take the sunlight in and use Solarbeam!” This attack was just to use the bright sunshine to its advantage. Cryogonal started to absorb the bright sky’s sunshine and started to shine brightly. I remember in previously when my Venusaur did the same technique and used Sunny Day alongside Solarbeam. It blasted a Blastoise into a giant rock and crushed up the rock into small pieces. I love the move Solarbeam; it means so much and represents happiness. This is because it requires sunlight to work effectively.

“Take this giant Solarbeam, Farfetch’d,” I said, and pointed. “Your time is running out little bird.” Farfetch’d been a cool Pokemon, I could do with this mischievous on my side and include in alongside the team. That male fuzzy, brown duck would make a lot of friends within my Pokemon roster. Aerodactly would then have a soaring partner in the skies and both of them would be mischievous and cause havoc.

"Thanks, Gaius," Chris said, giving me a thumbs up as he snagged the jumper from the air. "This should keep me warm and repay the favour soon," he finished, turning his attention back to the battle.

I would have stopped to think about what he meant by that, but the battle was still going on and Farfetch'd was far from out of it.

“So much for the icy temperatures,” Chris said, musing aloud about his situation. “Cryogonal be careful, we cannot use your Ice-cold moves as effective here." He shrugged out of the now useless jumper and tossed it back to me. “Here, Gaius hold on to it for now,” I he said to me. “Thanks so much for the assistance!” His Cryogonal seemed upset by the sudden change in weather, so Chris said a few encouraging words to the Ice type. "Cheer up, Cryogonal. No need to be down. I have an idea, but that Farfetch’d is becoming a pain now! Cryogonal, let’s do this!”

Cryogonal's spirits seemed buoyed up by his master's words as its demeanor took on a more positive bearing.

“Cryogonal, let’s try a special move nobody would expect! Cryogonal, take the sunlight in and use Solarbeam!”

I was a little surprised by this tactic because I knew it wouldn't do that much damage to the Pokemon because it was a Flying type, which made Grass typed moves not very effective against it. It was however a good use of the sudden weather. Since Solarbeam normally took twice as long to use as a normal attack, it was efficient to use it now. Plus, Chris might be thinking that with this low damaging attack plus another he could lower the health of Farfetch'd enough to capture it next.

“Take this giant Solarbeam, Farfetch’d,” he said, and pointed. “Your time is running out little bird.”

If the bird could have scowled I'm sure it would have. As Cryogonal's crystal body started to light up and it drew in the sunlight needed for the Solarbeam, the wild Pokemon flapped its wings and flew forward straight at Chris's Pokemon. One of its wings was trailing a dark substance behind it, which told me it was using Night Slash, a Dark type move. Before the Pokemon could attack its rival though, the Substitute materialized in front of the attack, taking the Night Slash and fading from sight.

Because Farfetch'd had flown directly at Cryogonal it made an easy target for the Solarbeam. The Pokemon was blasted by the full power of the concentrated beam of light. Farfetch'd dropped to the ground and appeared dazed as it struggled to its feet. This would be a perfect time for Chris to land a punishing blow and try and capture the Pokemon.

As the bright sunshine shone above me, Gaius, Cryogonal and Farfetch’d, I wondered if this battle would end soon. Cryogonal levitated in a circle and was quite merrier due to my kind words and encouragement. Farfetch’d seemed to be in this battle to win it. I could do with a bird of this calibre to help me win many future battles. As I commanded Cryogonal to use Solarbeam I had hoped it would be a powerful one. Grass moves were not as affective against Flying-Typed Pokemon. Alas, Type advantage was not always the norm for Pokemon battles. I watched as my powerful, icy Cryogonal’s crystal body started to brighten up and absorbed the bright sunlight. Suddenly, the fuzzy, brown duck flapped it wings and flew straight forward to Cryogonal.

“Woah, watch out,” I shouted and shrieked. I was quite worried. I carefully glimpsed up at the fuzzy duck’s dark substance around its back end. What could this move be? Could it be critical? I was really nervous because it had so many tricks up its feathers. Suddenly, Cryogonal’s Substitute hazed in front of the attack and crumbled into pieces.

“Thanks Substitute,” I said for Cryogonal. “That was a lucky defense.” Cryogonal’s Solarbeam technique was unleashed and blasted full power at the fuzzy duck. It rapidly dropped to the crusty ground. I watched as it struggled to its feet. I guess I should attempt a capture soon. Yes, that’s right. I just need to whittle down its health a little more. Cryogonal hovered back slightly in the sunlight and appeared to be quite content. This was a shock considering the weather. I needed to take advantage of this sudden outcome of the battle. Therefore, I should blast an attack to pin it down some more and then attempt the capture with a Park Ball.

“I think we got this covered,” I said, and clapped at the Cryogonal. “Good job as always Cryogonal. Let’s finish this up!” I cheered with excitement on the possibility of having a new Pokemon friend to add to my collection. Now, let’s do this. I thought to myself.

“Cryogonal, I think you should use Ice Beam,” I said. “I know it does not do as much in the sunny weather. However, we need to finish this up quick and press on. Therefore, use Ice Beam!” Cryogonal’s eyes pierced with a crimson colour and it prepared its Ice Beam command with action. I watched closely as the fuzzy, brown duck was a bit concussed.

“I hope Farfetch’d will enjoy becoming my friend eventually,” I said, and smiled. “Cryogonal use your Ice Beam, quickly now!” This all brings back memories from seven years ago, when I first became a Pokemon Trainer. I started out with my trusty Numel and we ventured out to the Hoenn region. There, we met the Bug-Type Pokemon, Wurmple. It was a tough creature, and took a lot of strength to over power. (Even with a Fire-Type Pokemon). Numel had used Ember countless times and Wurmple kept countering with String Shot, and fast movements. Eventually, I captured it and it was my friend. In the end, it evolved into a Beautifly and later I released it to be with its friends once again.

Anyways! “Cryogonal, use Ice Beam now!” I shouted. “Then, when it hits I will throw my Park Ball!” I stretched for my backpack and brought out the beautiful sphere and readied it for capturing Farfetch’d!

“I think we got this covered,” Chris said to his Pokemon. “Good job as always, Cryogonal. Let’s finish this up!” He was clearly getting worked up as he sensed the battle was nearing its end. I could understand this, as it had been a long and close battle between the two Pokemon; and if this battle was any indication, the Farfetch'd would make and excellent addition to Chris's team.

“Cryogonal, I think you should use Ice Beam,” he ordered the Ice type next. “I know it does not do as much in the sunny weather. However, we need to finish this up quick and press on. Therefore, use Ice Beam! I hope Farfetch’d will enjoy becoming my friend eventually,” he said, as Cryogonol started to charge up the Icebeam attack, which would take a bit more energy than usual because of the sunny weather. “Cryogonal use your Ice Beam, quickly now! Then, when it hits I will throw my Park Ball!”

As Chris started going through his bag looking for a Pokeball, the Cryogonol launched the Icebeam attack at Farfetch. The Pokemon was still slightly dazed, but saw the attack coming. It started to flap its wing to try and dodge the attack, but it couldn't do so in time. The Icebeam struck it clearly, doing as much damage as possible to the Pokemon.

Soon as the Icebeam ended, Chris tossed a Pokeball at Farfetch. The ball hit the wild Pokemon on the bill and sucked it inside. The red and white sphere started to wiggle as the vastly weakened Pokemon struggled to break through. After a few wriggles the ball slowed and looked as if it had stopped moving. I was about to congratulate Chris on the capture when the ball opened and the Farfetch burst forth. The Pokemon was panting and struggling to stand. The Icebeam coupled with the Pokeball had left the Pokemon with zero energy. Chris would just have to try and capture it once more.

As I watched the Ice Beam attack, the fuzzy brown duck noticed my onslaught of cold ice and flapped its wings continuously. Unfortunately for that bird it could not get away in time and was injured some more. I quickly tossed my Pokeball at the fuzzy Farfetch’d. I watched as it was absorbed by bashing its bill. The red and white sphere wiggled across the floor. Suddenly, the ball slowly stopped moving and then released out. Farfetch’d started to pant some more and struggled to stand.

“Oh no,” I said. “I shall throw it again!” I quickly walked over to the loose Park Ball and grabbed it. I quickly tossed it in the direction of the brown, duck creature again.

"oh no," Chris exclaimed, surprised he didn't catch the bird Pokemon. "I shall throw it again." He walked over to the Pokeball he had just thrown and picked it up. He hit the center button once more and tossed it at the wild Pokemon again.

Farfetchd was sucked inside the capture device once more and tried to escape again. This time it only took a few seconds for the ball to settle still and issue the ping that meant the Pokemon was captured.

"Congratulations," I said to Chris as I walked over and retrieved the Pokemon, dropping it into my bag. "We can continue whenever you are ready."

Chris had only caught one Pokemon so far, so he could still catch three more if he found any three he wanted. So far the run hadn't been that productive, but the Pokemon hadn't been washouts either. He had just hadn't found anything he wanted as of yet besides the bird. Hopefully that would change soon. It would suck for him to leave with just one Pokemon instead of the four he could take out. We would just have to wait and see what the Ruins had in store for us.

I watched as my Park Ball soared in the direction of Farfetch’d. It bounced on the creature and consumed it once again. I watched as it wiggled around the floor continuously. It was wriggling away and then I awaited the ping sound for capture.

“Come on…” I said to myself. “We got this Cryogonal,” Cryogonal levitated around and watched carefully too. PING. I waved my arms in the air and noticed the Park Ball stood still.

“YES,” I shouted. “I captured Farfetch’d!” I was so happy. I watched Gaius walk over to the captured Park Ball and slipped it into his back pack.

“Congratulations,” Gaius said to me. “We can continue whenever you are ready.”

"Sure, I'm positive we can find more Pokemon for you."

No sooner had the words left my mouth when the scene around us started to change like it had been doing. The tree shrank into the ground as wall sprouted up and a building materialized. I took a step forward and found myself in a large open area with a single computer console facing towards the middle of the room. Atop the console was a cat-like Pokemon with blue markings. It was a young Shinx, a common Electric type Pokemon. Once it evolved it was a pretty decent Pokemon, but that didn't Chris would want it.

I looked around for a way out and spotted a door behind and off to the left of the Shinx. We could get around it, if it decided not to bother us. Cats could be finicky like that, which is a reason I avoid the creatures.

The Pokemon kept tracked our movement with one eye, but did do anything. When we reached the door I opened it and stepped inside. A large snowy mountain towered above me and Chris. The door we had just passed through was now a solid wall of rock.

The snowbanks were low, but the air still held a slight chill to it. In the snow I spotted a Pokemon. It was low to the ground, brown, and had a snout. It was Swinub, a Ground and Ice Pokemon. It was pretty popular and powerful. I wasn't sure if Chris had one though.

I just opened my wallet and was about to buy a Pokedoll in case we could not escape. Suddenly, my Ranger Gaius looked around for a moment and spotted a door behind and off to the left of Shinx. I followed him has we tried to avoid the kitty Pokemon. Gaius seemed pretty relaxed about walking around the kitty and pressed on.

I noticed Shinx kept tracking our movements with one eye. Gaius opened the door and entered. We went inside and it was a large snowy mountain that towered above us. Unexpectly the solid door turned into rock. I looked around and I felt a cold chill. I thought about taking Gaius’ jumper again…
I looked around some more and noticed Gaius spot something in the snow. It was a Pokemon! It appeared to be a small brown creature with a soft looking pink nose. It resembled the features of a Swinub! I would love to have another one… however I already have a Mamoswine in my big party!

“Hey Gaius,” I said, and asked. “I think I shall pass on this one, if we fail I have my Pokedollars ready!”

“Hey Gaius,” Chris said, and asked. “I think I shall pass on this one, if we fail I have my Pokedollars ready!”

"I think we can escape without the Pokemon coming after us, but I'm not sure, we'll have to see," Gaius responded, watching the wild Pokemon clearly.

The Swinub was slowly making its way towards the ranger and trainer, searching for food if Gaius guessed correctly. Gaius started to lead Chris around the Ice Pokemon, but suddenly the Pokemon's snouted lifted up and took a sniff of the air. Gaius froze, hoping the Pokemon wouldn't spot him or his charge, but the Swinub took another whiff of air and swung around to face them. It's black and beady eyes focused on them and the ranger knew that Chris would have to use a Pokedoll if he wanted to escape.

Chris knew this also because he handed Gaius the money needed for the item. Gaius withdrew one of the toys from his pack and tossed it at Swinub. Just as all the other Pokemon had done, the Swinub took the toy and retreated from sight a moment later. Soon as the Pokemon was gone the environment began to change.

The snow melted away and was replaced by rock, molten rock. The mountains stretched to the sky and soon a point had formed. They had moved from the icy mountain of Oktori to the fiery hot volcano of Deckbi. Two eyes on a pair of fire stalks poked out from behind a rock. It was a Slugma, a Fire Pokemon that evolve into a Fire and Rock type. It was a common enough Pokemon, but not many people happened to own one.

As I got my Pokedollars ready for a Pokedoll to escape from Swinub. Gaius said. “I think we can escape without the Pokemon coming after us, but I’m not sure, we’ll have to see.”

I watched as Swinub slowly made its way towards us. My Ranger started to lead us around the Ice-Type Pokemon. Suddenly, it’s snout lifted and would not let us leave. Therefore, Gaius took the money for the item. Swinub took the doll and retreated.

“Phew,” I said. Then, the scenery began to change once again. It turned into the fiery hot volcano of Mt. Deckbi. I watched as a Slugma approached us. I haven’t seen Magcargo or Slug ma for some time. However, I was not interested this time.

“Let’s move on Gaius,” I said. I grabbed my wallet once more just in case we could not get away. “Let’s get going!”

“Let’s move on Gaius,” Chris said. He grabbed his wallet once more just in case we could not get away. “Let’s get going!”

Gaius nodded in his direction to confirm that he heard his wishes and turned his attention to the Pokemon. The Slugma took one look at the two humans standing there and yawned. It turned away and moved away, as if they were the ones bothering it.

Gaius simply shrugged and moved forward, waiting for the next Pokemon. After the pair had traveled about one=hundred feet, the scene changed again. Once again, a vast change had occurred. This time they were in front of a large lake, with trees and foliage all around. It looked like something out of a calender, it was the Great Lakes.

Swimming in the water was a Totodile. A strong Pokemon, but one that was used as a starter, meaning it was was everywhere and easy to obtain. Gaius doubted Chris would want it, but it was his job, so he pointed it out anyway.

My Ranger, Gaius shrugged his shoulders and moved away. We escaped Slugma! I was quite happy I could save some cash. We waited for the next Pokemon. I followed Gaius and the scene changed around us. We were in front of a large lake, with lots of trees with foliage all around. It was a great lake.

“This is a relaxing atmosphere,” I said, and smiled. I noticed a Totodile nearby and was ready to battle.

“Gaius, let’s move on again,” I said. “Here’s some money just in case we need a Poke Doll!” I handed out some cash just in case. $6250 – 500 = 5750.

“Gaius, let’s move on again,” Chris said. “Here’s some money just in case we need a Poke Doll!”

Chris had already handed out a good amount of cash this run already for Pokedolls, so Gaius was really hoping it wouldn't happen more. Every run had it fair share of fail escapes, but when it kept happening it became annoying for ranger and trainer. Especially for the trainer since they were the ones paying for it.

Whenever Gaius went on a run he made sure that he had at least 15 Pokedolls with him for this exact reason. Plus, it kept him from having to keep handing money over. The only downside was that you had to have the seven and a half thousand to pay for the fifteen dolls at once. That was easy for most people if they didn't make a fair amount of money.

The Tototile took notice of the duo and started to swim towards them. Chris handed Gaius the money and threw a Magikarp doll at the wild Pokemon before it could get any closer.

The Water Pokemon took the offering and dived underwater with its new prize. Gaius led Chris past the lake until the Enigma Ruins changed again.

The new environment was the Power Plant, the home for Electric Pokemon. Levitating near a computer was the Steel and Electric Pokemon Magnemite.

Magnemite evolved into Magneton, then Magnezone, pretty powerful Pokemon. Gaius once owned one, but he had gifted it to a young and upcoming trainer. Not many people owned this Pokemon, and gaius wasn't sure if Chris did.

I handed over my Pokedoll money to Gaius and he used it effectively. I was hoping I would see a decent Pokemon I could capture, and not something I already have. I watched as a Totodile took notice of us and started to swim towards us. Gaius threw a Magikarp doll at the wild Totodile before it got to close to us. The Water Pokemon took the doll and I watched as it dived underwater.

“Let’s move on,” I said. Gaius led us past the like until the scenery changed. I felt kind of sad a little because of this Power Plant area. Electric Pokemon sparking me made me sad and hurt. But, alas I must continue! Suddenly, a Magnemite levitated towards us.
“I would like to pass here too!” I said. “Before it sparks at me.” I handed over some money just in case we could not escape… $2750 – 500 = $2250

“I would like to pass here too!” Chris commented. “Before it sparks at me.”

Gaius was a little surprised that he wanted to pass up the Magnemite, but he clearly knew what he was doing. It was possible that he already owned such a Pokemon, or that he just wasn't interested in it.

However, even if not interested, the run so far hadn't yielded that great results so far, so Gaius would have caught it even if he didn't want it. That must have meant Chris already owned the Pokemon.

Sadly for Chris, the Magnemite advanced further and he had to pass over more money to escape from the dual typed Pokemon. After the Magnemite encounter the pair continued onward. Ten minutes passed before another POkemon was seen, a Yanma this time.

Gaius looked over at Chris with a questioning glance and waited for his response.

As I said “I would like to pass here too!” I wanted to move on and find some Pokemon I actually would love to capture. I really fancied a Croagunk, Ponyta, Oddish, and Kangaskhan. I prefer mostly the Kanto Region Pokemon. However, it is luck of the draw here and within the Pokemon world. Gaius looked surprised that I wanted to move on from a Magnemite. However, I knew what I wanted, and what I was doing. I already have a powerful Magnezone within my large roster of Pokemon. I loved Magnezone so much, it is a wonderful Pokemon. It used to always love sparking my Jolteon though to charge each other.

Gaius seemed to be interested within the Magnemite. I could tell by his look in his eye. It showed her loved powerful Pokemon. Magnezone is definitely a powerful Electric and Steel Pokemon! Magnemite levitated further towards us; therefore I passed over some of my valuable Pokedollars in exchange for some freedom. Magnemite soon zapped away and we continued on with our National Park Special Journey!

“This is taking some time,” I said to Gaius. “Nine whole minutes and no Pokemon!” Suddenly, as another minute ticked by. I noticed a flying, bug creature hover towards us. Gaius turned to me and awaited a response from me. I was not sure what Pokemon it was until got a whole lot closer. I watched carefully as it hovered around in a circle. It was… a YANMA. That Bug Pokemon was a really fast one with its Special Ability of Speed Boost. Only Ninjask and Blaziken could have that ability. However, the Blaziken Pokemon has to have their dreams unlocked to use such a powerful ability. The common denominator is that all these Pokemon learn Baton Pass. Yanmega is also a pretty powerful Pokemon as well. I lost to one in Mossdeep Gym once because sleep haxed me with Hypnosis after one Protect.

“I have decided Gaius I will go for this one!” I said, and shouted with hope. “Yanma let’s battle!” The large red dragonfly creature hovered in front of me whilst it flapped its two pairs of wings through the air. It’s tail waggled slightly and was prepared for battle.

“Let’s go,” I shouted, and grabbed a Pokeball. “Cryogonal I choose you!” I tossed the ball quickly, and it bounced onto the ground. I watched as the flash of red light unleashed my icey mirror once more. “Cryogonal,” It said, and levitated. It still appeared weak from the past battle with Farfetch’d. It pierced its sharp eyes at Yanma.

“Alright Cryogonal,” I said and waved. “I would like you to use a combination of moves this time. Firstly, quickly use Icy Wind, and then attack with an Ice Beam.” I did hope my plan worked, this was because Yanma was too fast.

“Cryogonal, aim your Icy Wind at Yanma’s wings, and then blast the Ice Beam at its tail.” I said, and pointed. Cryogonal nodded a little in pain, and was prepared to go all out on the Yanma as well. We could do it because we were a very good team.

“I have decided Gaius I will go for this one!” Chris said feverently, a clear sign of some hope for this run in his voice. Gaius was just glad they had come across something that caught Chris's eye. “Yanma let’s battle!”

“Let’s go,” he shouted, and grabbing a Pokeball off his belt. “Cryogonal I choose you!”

Just as he he had done in the battle earlier, he decided to fight with his Cryogonal, a strong and rare Ice type. Since the Yanma was also Flying type, just like the Farfetch, Chris's Pokemon would have a strong advantage over the wild Pokemon.

“Alright Cryogonal,” he said, catching the eye of his Pokemon. “I would like you to use a combination of moves this time. Firstly, quickly use Icy Wind, and then attack with an Ice Beam. Cryogonal, aim your Icy Wind at Yanma’s wings, and then blast the Ice Beam at its tail.”

Gaius knew the direction that Chris wanted this battle to take. One thing that made Yanma and its evolved form Yanmega powerful was it's ability Speed Boost. Speed Boost enabled the Pokemon to increase its speed passively as the battle increased in length. Obviously this provided a good advantage to the Pokemon.

Chris was seeking to level the playing field by playing with the Yanma's speed. The ice attacks wouldn't stop the Pokemon;s ability, but it would limit the effectiveness of the ability.

Cryogonal reacted faster than the Yanma. The Pokemon spoke its name and a gust of wind sprang forth from its body and made for the Yanma. The Yanma beat its wing furiously and tried to climb higher, but the attack reached too fast. The breath of cold wind wrapped around the Bug Pokemon like a blanket. It was easy to see the small ice crystals starting to form on the Pokemon's wings.

The Yanma started to fall from the sky as it couldn't move its wings fast enough to stay that high in the sky. When the Pokemon managed to regain control of its flight path it turned to Cryogonal and its multifacited eyes flashed white for the tiniest of seconds. The Pokemon flapped its wings next and a wind sprang up. Unlike the Icy Wind, this gust didn't feel like it had a temperature. It had an emotional ting to it, it felt really sinister.

It took Gaius a moment, but he realized that the Pokemon had used Omnious Wind. It wasn't a strong attack, but it had the chance of increasing the user Pokemon's stats one stage each. Judging by the way the Yanma's body had just started to glow, there was a good chance that had just happened.

If Crygonal seemed fazed by this, it didn't show it. The Ice Pokemon started on preparing the Icebeam attack. Yanma saw the same thing and decided a defensive approach would be best. Immediately ten copies of the Bug Pokemon appeared in the air around Cryogonal. As the bugs started to form a circle around Chris's Pokemon, it loosed the Icebeam. It shot the beam in a wide circle to make sure it hit every image.

The attack managed to connect the right copy, doing even more damage. The Bug Pokemon fluttered in the air for a few seconds, but was soon able to regain control. Gaius wondered what would take place next.

My icy mirror Cryogonal was ready to battle Yanma with its powerful Ice-type moves. Cryogonal’s favourite moves are Ice Beam and Blizzard. It loves using Ice Beam, especially when it battled a Dragonite once. The Dragonite had used Dragon Dance, which raised its Attack and Speed statistics by so much. Cryogonal had used Ice Beam to take down most of its health. Luckily this Dragonite did not have Multiscale, and therefore my Cryogonal could take it down with one more attack. Cryogonal quickly darted at the Dragonite with Ice Shard and knocked it out! That’s why Cryogonal sure loves its Ice-Type moves. I am so proud of my Ice-type mirror Pokemon.

I watched carefully and awaited my combination of moves to onslaught onto Yanma. My strategy was to slow it down because of its special ability known as Speed Boost. I watched carefully as Yanma buzzed around within the cold air. I knew my attacks would not removes its Speed Boost abilities, however I can try to counter their effects, effectively.

A gust of wind formed as Cryogonal made the first move, which sprang forth from its body in the direction for Yanma. I watched carefully as Yanma tried to flap its wings away and climb higher. Icy Wind had blasted it too quickly before it could do anything. Yanma had started to descend from the cold sky and twitched its wings slightly to stay in the high, sky. I watched as the rare bug Pokemon tried to regain flight and then suddenly, my icy mirror, was blasted by a wing, which sprang up and around my Cryogonal. It seemed my Pokemon mirror was consumed by an Omnious Wind, with a lot of emotions from Yanma.

“Not bad Yanma,” I said. “I knew you had a lot of suprises. Cryogonal seemed to not be taken by this Omnious Wind and appeared raring to go. Unexpectly, the buzzy Yanma started to glow with a bright light. I recognised such talents as Omnious Wind had a chance to increase all statistics by one. “Clever, Yanma,” I thought to myself. “You will now be even more trickier this time too!” This attack had similar effects as to Ancient Power, which my Claydol and Aerodactyl knew. Such powerful effects with a lot of chance involved. I much prefer Rock Slide! I prefer power to effects. However, Stone Edge is stronger but does not have super accuracy.

Cryogonal started preparing its favourite move Ice Beam. Suddenly, I watched Yanma prepare lots of clones and copies of it. It appeared to be the technique Double Team! Cryogonal had multiple bug-type clones around it in a circle. Cryogonal unleashed its Ice Beam, I watched carefully as it shot it around in a wide circle.

“That was impressive, Cryogonal,” I said with a smile. “Good work, you hit them all at least.” I glazed as Yanmaa fluttered in the air for a second and regained control. Now I had to keep an eye on this creature’s speed. Yanma seemed to be down some health, I need to whittle it down some more and then attempt a capture with my lovely Park Ball.

“Cryogonal, wanna fog out that Yanma over their?” I asked my icy mirror. It nodded with respect. “Let’s plan a Haze attack and use it to consume around the Yanma.” Cryogonal seemed pretty content with this attack. However, could it perform it effectively.

“Then, I would like you to attack it with an Ice Shard,” I said. “One of your favourite moves, but be careful. I don’t want you to be too forceful at the Yanma. Else it will faint and disappear!” I raised my thumb at Cryogonal once more like before. I hoped Gaius was enjoying this battle after we ran away from so many.

“Go, Cryogonal. Use Haze and then Ice Shard let’s go!” I said with such enthusiasm. I awaited for Yanma’s response and had hoped I could attempt capture soon.

Chris seemed impressed by the Yanma's battle prowess and smarts. It looked as if he would happy to catch this Pokemon at the end of day. However, the battle wasn't quite decided yet. The Yanma had its wings full, but it could still pull an upset and knock out the Crygonol. Gaius has seen it before in the national park.

Gaius was pretty sure that Chris would manage to bring down the Pokemon easily enough though, he was that good a battler.

“Cryogonal, wanna fog out that Yanma over their?” Chris asked his icy mirror. The Pokemon replied with a simple nod of acknowledgement. “Let’s plan a Haze attack and use it to consume around the Yanma. Then, I would like you to attack it with an Ice Shard,” Chris continued, “one of your favourite moves, but be careful. I don’t want you to be too forceful at the Yanma. Else it will faint and disappear!”

Chris had decided to counter the effects of the Omnious Wind boost by using Haze, a move that reverted all stat changes back to their original mark of zero. It was a counter to Pokemon that managed to set up and raise their stats really high. It was a pretty smart move, and the following Ice Shard was probably meant to be the final attack before Chris could attempt to capture the Pokemon, meaning that he wanted to do it very soon.

Cryogonal began to bear down on the Yanma as the thick purple haze started to roll up from around the Ice Pokemon. Yanma saw the Haze starting to form and reacted quite quickly. It climbed higher into the sky and began to start a series of flying maneuvers.

Gaius wondered what the Pokemon was trying to do, but then he started to feel warm. He began to suspect what the Pokemon was doing, and a moment later his suspicions were confirmed when the sun began to shine even more brightly than it had at the start of the battle.

Sunny Day was a counter to the move Haze as it stopped the Haze from forming as it was all burned away before the effects could take place. Just as fast as it had started to form, the Haze was gone from the battlefield. As the Yanma returned to an attitude below the tree tops to continue fighting the Cryogonal, a single shard of Ice shot forth at the Pokemon. When the piece of ice just passed through Yanma's body I knew that the attack had one of the Double Team clones.

A sharp buzzing filled the air as Yanma used its next attack. It wasn't that loud to Gaius's ears, but it wasn't directed at him or Chris, it was directed at the Cryogonal, where it probably sounded like a train was roaring past. Cryogonal was a hard Pokemon to read, so its emotions weren't determinable to the human eye, they might be to Chris as he was the Pokemon's master.

The sound faded a moment later when the Bug Buzz attack ended. Yanma had come through the latest round of attacks unscathed and doing well for itself, but it was still in a dangerous position, one Chris could still exploit easily enough.

I glazed over at my Cryogonal and waited for the outcome of the battle, and hoped it could take down naughty Yanma soon. I had hoped to capture the buzzy, bug Pokemon and add it to my collection of Pokemon! I watched and noticed Gaius observing the battle with quite a big perspective. I waited some more for my Cryogonal’s Haze attack and combination of Ice Shard. Cryogonal nodded. It loved its Ice Shard so much. I do not know why, it just did. I had hoped my plan would work, because Yanma still had plenty of strength to take down my icy mirror, Cryogonal. I needed to capture this creature shortly; I needed to whittle down its health some more!

I watched as Cryogonal began to levitate down at Yanma with a thick, purple haze. It rolled up from around my icy Cryogonal. Suddenly, Yanma soared quickly into the sky and reacted quickly. It started to use more aerial attacks, and I was quite concerned at my plan slightly failing. It was not a good sign. Unexpectedly, the temperature starting to get hotter and sun shone brightly. It was like a tiny heat wave. It was a Sunny Day! This countered my Cryogonal’s Haze. “Oh this is not good, you naughty Yanma,” I said with my fist clenched. “I guess you wanted to keep your stat ups.” Haze had burned away quickly, and countered the move. Cryogonal then blasted out the Ice Shard, which shot through one of the Double Team clones.

“Oh no!” I said. My eyes started hearing a buzzing sound, which sliced through the air and buzzed loudly at Cryogonal. I could tell Cryogonal was having hearing problems after the Bug Buzz attack. “Cryogonal, be careful!” The sound faded and Yanma became unscratched from my onslaught of the attacks. I needed to work hard this round before anything else!

“Cryogonal we have to act fast!” I shouted. “This time I want you to use Hidden Power on every Yanma you see! If you hit the real Yanma then we are in big jackpot!” I watched as Cryogonal nodded, I had high hopes to hit all the Pokemon. I wanted to avoid using an Ice-Type move whilst the sun was bright, else my Pokemon’s moves would be less damaging because it is hot.

“Cryogonal, be careful not to make Yanma faint,” I shouted, and smiled. “I’ll have my Parkball ready just in case!” I reached for my Parkball and readied in just in case!

Chris seemed a little shock that the Yanma had managed to come through the last bout entirely unscathed, but it served to strengthen his resolve. He clenched a fist at the Bug Pokemon and spoke to it in harsh tones.

Chris decided to throw caution to the wind and went all out with his next attack.

“Cryogonal, we have to act fast!” he shouted. “This time I want you to use Hidden Power on every Yanma you see! If you hit the real Yanma then we are in big jackpot!”

Hidden Power was perhaps the most unexplained move in the entire world of Pokemon. Every Pokemon possessed the means to use the move, but with the exception of only a couple, all had to be taught to utilize it. The power of the move always remained the same across all the Pokemon, but the type varied among each Pokemon. With the right Hidden Power, a Pokemon could counter a Pokemon that was supposed to counter it. An example of this would be an Hidden Power Grass Jolteon. It was a rare thing to have, but it allowed Jolteon's to counter Ground types that went up against it, something that was very handy.

The Yanma, being faster, struck first. It climbed higher, then dived bombed the Cryogonal, moving so fast the Gaius barely saw the Aerial Ace attack. Cryogonal bellowed in pain, which sounded like nails on a chalkboard, but the Aerial Ace didn't stop Cryogonal from lashing out with the Hidden Power.

The attack struck the right Yanma and sent the Pokemon to the ground. Yanma hit hard, and lay there winded for a moment or two. Chris enlarged the Pokeball he had pulled out and chucked it at the Yanma.

The ball wiggled furiously upon the ground for a few brief moments, but the Pokemon popped out a moment later. It was breathing hard and its body was shaking from the effort, but it had escaped and could still fight.

Seeing how this had already happened earlier to Chris, Gaius felt a little sympathy for the bad luck he was getting.

I waited and watched for Cryogonal’s Hidden Power affects to work against Yanma. Yanma was faster and struck first. I watched as it climbed higher and dived bombed my precious icy mirror. I barely saw the Yanma flicker past my eyes with an Aerial Ace attack. Cryogonal did not stop and I watched my icy mirror, Cryogonal use its special Hidden Power!

I watched as Yanma was struck and sent to the ground. Then, I had tossed my Parkball and pulled it out. As I tossed it, I watched Yanma be consumed and wriggle for a few moments. I needed to hope and then it bust out and Yanma buzzed around. “Oh damn,” I shouted. “I must use another Park Ball shortly again!”

“Parkball go!” I shouted. I picked it up off the ground and tossed it through the air to attempt at Yanma.

Chris was dissapointed by the Pokemon not getting captured, but he didn't allow it to faze him. He simply pulled out another Pokeball and threw it at Yanma again. The Yanma didn't make an attempt to move and was sucked inside. Unlike the first time, this ball wiggled once then settled still, a ding coming from it.

"Congrats," Gaius said as he retrieved the Pokemon and the empty Pokeball. He tossed the empty Pokeball back to Chris and dropped the Yanma into his bag, where Chris could get it after the run had concluded.

Once Chris was ready to move on we would do so. He had only caught two Pokemon so far, so he still had the option of catching two more if he wanted them should we come across any Pokemon that caught his fancy. Gaius wasn't sure what lay in store ahead of them, but he sincerely hoped this run would be worth the money and effort Chris had expended so far. Nothing was worse than wasting money and time.

I watched as the Park Ball consumed Yanma, once again for another capture attempt. It bounced to the floor and wiggled on the floor… Once and then I heard a ding sound.

“Yes, Yanma is now ours!” I shouted, and gave thumbs up to Cryogonal. “Good job, Cryogonal we now have two new Pokemon!” I watched as Gaius retrieved the full Park Ball and placed it into his backpack.

“Congrats,” Gaius said to me with a relaxed tone. He tossed back the empty Park Ball to me and I placed it into my pocket. I returned Cryogonal back for a little rest, and was ready to press on.

“Come on Gaius, I have lots of more Pokemon to encounter!” I said.” Let’s go!”

“Come on Gaius, I have lots of more Pokemon to encounter!” Chris said, his enthusiasm returning to him now that he caught another Pokemon.” Let’s go!”

Very rarely did someone leave a run early without catching the full amount, so Gaius figured that was what Chris wanted to do, especially since the Pokemon that run across so far left much to be desired.

While the Enigma Ruins were a total mystery, all the rangers knew the layout of the place in case they ever got lost or needed to locate something. The two had already penetrated deep into the interior of the ruins, and Gaius knew them to be on the second level underground. Chris could only encounter four more Pokemon that he had the option of catching, so it was best for them to be working their way to the front as soon as possible. Luckily, there was a shaft just a little ways ahead that would work it's way to a room near the front. It was only a ten minute walk so they would reach it shortly.

Gaius located the direction he wanted to take and set off. After a few minutes of walking Gaius saw the opening to the tunnel. Guarding the entrance however was a small grey and black dog, a Poochyena.

As the background of the ruins started to change to resemble the from of the Meteor Valley, Gaius turned to Chris. "Are you interested in a Poochyena?"

I waited for Gaius to lead me to a different scenery of the Engima Ruins. He seemed to know where he was going, considering the areas or the Engima Ruins change so much. We had penetrated deep into the interior of the ruins. It seemed like an Underground. I have only four more encounters before I had to leave. I already captured Farfetch’d and Yanma. Both awesome Pokemon!

“Yawn,” I welped. “I am kind of tired, but alas let’s press on!” I followed Gaius through a shaft, which seemed to walk on for ages. I followed slowly behind. Suddenly, guarding the entrance was a small puppy. Poochyena! The background behind me warped into a valley. Gaius turned to me.

“Are you interested in a Poochyena?” He said. I looked at him for a moment and shook my head.

“Poochyena is cute an all, but let’s move on.” I said. “I have my Pokedollars just in case we cannot get away so easily.”

“Poochyena is cute an all, but let’s move on.” Chris said. “I have my Pokedollars just in case we cannot get away so easily.”

The small dog Pokemon looked over at us and began to wag its tail in excitement. While Poochyena were known to be a vicious Pokemon in battle, they were still dogs and had that softer side to them. This one clearly wanted to play with the both the ranger and trainer. The only problem was that it could want to play for hours, time they didn't have.

Chris handed over the cash wordlessly and Gaius passed him a Zubat Pokedoll in return. Chris tossed the toy behind and away from them and the Pokemon took after it at full speed.

"Better get out of here before it return," Gaius commented to Chris.

Gaius led the way into the tunnel and the pair continued to walk. This time it was only a few minutes for a new Pokemon to appear. Gaius knew when they had found a Pokemon because the Ruins shifted to a heavily wooded area. Sure enough, hand from a tree was a Pokemon that resembled both a flower and vines. It was a Carnivine, a rare Pokemon not often spotted or owned. Gaius wondered if Chris would try to capture this one.

If Gaius was reading the situation correctly, Chris was impressed by the rare plant Pokemon, but it appeared that he didn't really want the Pokemon. This was no problem, because there were simply some Pokemon out there that trainer wasn't looking for, even if they were powerful and/or rare.

Gaius nodded sagely and looked over at the Pokemon wondering what the best course of action would be. However, before he make a decision, the Carnivine made one. It climbed higher into the tree and vanished from sight.

Gaius shrugged his shoulders and started to walk again. They were walking for only a few minutes before the Enigma Ruins worked their magic and changed again. They found themselves in a rocky region. Gaius quickly spotted the Pokemon hiding in plain sight.

He nudged Chris and pointed out the Geodude.

Gaius nodded at Chris and looked back to the Pokemon. The Geodude was still sitting there, unmoving, as if it didn't want us to spot it. Gaius took this as a clue that the Pokemon wasn't looking for a fight.

"Let's just get out of here," Gaius said aside to Chris. "Pretty sure it doesn't want to fight."

Gaius simply walked past the Geodude, and the Pokemon still didn't move. Soon as they were past it, the scene shifted. During each shift, you would be able to see the place you were truly in, so Gaius knew they were about five minutes from leaving the ruins.

When the shift ended, Gaius spotted a Pokemon chewing on some tree leaves. It was a Girafarig, a Psychic type Pokemon. Gaius was pretty sure Chris owned this Pokemon, but only he could confirm it.

As we tried to escape Geodude. Gaius nodded and looked back at the Geodude. It seemed to still sit, unmoved and appeared like we did not want to spot it. Therefore, I thought to myself, perhaps it did not want to battle.
