This RP is for 5TailedDemonLizard and Ant2011

For years the city of Kalam has been the symbol of a perfect city. Low crime rates, fertile farming ground on the outskirts of the city's walls, abundant mineral resources in the mountains close by, and a stable economy. Surrounded by a large forest with towering mountains to the North, Kalam hasn't been threatened by invaders.

Recently though, a thief has made Kalam her place of business. She has been known to steal from wealthy merchants and nobles. The guards of Kalam have chased her out of their city and into the forest.

Because the guards cannot leave Kalam unprotected to chase this criminal down, you have been asked to bring her in, for a hefty reward.

You find yourself trekking through the thick forest, the moss covered trees towering high above you. All you have to go on to find this thief is a map, sketched by the guard who saw the direction she ran. Finally, you come to a fork in the path. The map in your hand ends at this fork, and now you must continue searching without guidance.

01-25-2013, 07:34 PM
Kharre glanced around at the surrounding forest, the small paper map hanging loosely in her hand now. It had faded off into nothing and left the Dragonborn in the forest with no more guidance. That didn't bother her, she was used to going to great lengths to protect cities. Her problem was that the thief knew these woods better than she did. Though the Dragonborn's senses were on high alert, the twisting vines and thick foliage made it hard to see. The element of surprise would surely be in the thief's favor.

Letting out an annoyed sigh before adjusting her grip on her shield, Kharre continued down the path that led left. She might as well start searching for the thief, whoever they were. Since she was a mercenary, it was obvious that the city guards would send her out. Kharre was expendable. Not that she was even considering the idea that she wouldn't come back alive. This thief wouldn't last a second against her sword if it came to blows, that she was sure of. She had encountered thieves before throughout other cities, and their weapons hadn't been able to harm her through her shield and armor. This was the first one she had seen manage to get away from any guard in her presence. Whoever it was, they were good at what they did.

"Hopefully I'm better." Kharre said to herself, her mouth curling into an amused smile at the thought.

As you continue on your path something catches your eye, half of a footprint in the mud.

((I provided have a link here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jadH8QOPVRE) to a music track on youtube for ambiance if you would like to use it. I normally have ambiance music playing with my local group))

01-25-2013, 09:27 PM
"Hm..?" Kharre bends down just behind the small footprint, letting her fingers trace in the cool mud. It was fresh...And by the angle it was at in the mud could only mean the person had been running. She was on the right path...

Standing up once more, Kharre let her eyes scan over the trees around her before she turned them skyward, towards the thick branches they loomed over her head. Thieves were agile and quick, so the treetops were an ideal escape route for them. It was a wonder that more thieves didn't escape through the forest and instead take the stupid path through the streets.

"Where are you..." The dragonborn muttered, her golden eyes narrowed as she passed them over the trees "I know you're here somewhere."

She continued on at a slower pace, her senses on high alert.

Please make a Perception check

01-25-2013, 10:52 PM
Perception Check

Passive Perception: 10

d20 roll: 6

Total: 16

Kharre casts her eyes around the dense forest, hoping I catch sight of whoever he was chasing. They had to be close...

01-25-2013, 10:57 PM
You notice some light footprints in the dirt. They follow the path a ways and then suddenly turn right into the thick dense trees.

01-25-2013, 11:16 PM
Kharre lets her eyes travel over the footprints, looking at what she could see of their path before following them carefully. The thick woods turn the ambient light a dark green hue as she follows the path, keeping close to the footprints.

01-26-2013, 12:02 AM
You follow the footprints and come to a small clearing. You see a tent about 35 feet away, and the soft glow of a campfire.

01-26-2013, 01:02 AM
Kharre crouched low to the side of the path, creeping a bit farther forward. She strained her eyes to attempt to see if there was anything in the camp.

Perception Check (Just in case):

Passive Perception: 10

d20: 7

Total: 17

01-26-2013, 01:11 AM
You see an old man, probably human, counting gold and giggling.

01-26-2013, 01:30 AM
Kharre drew her sword quietly as she observed the man, narrowing her eyes. This had to be her thief...She slowly began to proceed forward, her face set in a snarl. Hopefully he wouldn't notice her until she was close enough.

01-26-2013, 01:37 AM
Perception check: Rolled 14, +6 bonus, total 20

The old man looks up and stares at you. He stands up quickly and snaps his fingers, transforming from an old man to a young girl. Her skin as white as snow and her hair a shimmering silver. "You know, there are better ways to sneak up on someone. I can only assume you were sent from Kalam, no?" She doesn't seem intimidated by you, but rather calm and hoping to talk for a bit.

01-26-2013, 01:52 AM
"And I can only assume you're the thief that I've been looking for." Kharre says, standing to her full height as she steps from the foliage, now standing face to face with the girl. She holds her sword at her side with a tight grip. Being a dragonborn, Kharre wasn't naturally stealthy so she wasn't surprised the girl had noticed her.

"Come quietly with me and I can avoid hurting you." She disliked the idea of hurting the girl, but if it came to that she wouldn't hold back.

01-26-2013, 01:57 AM
She giggled,"Oh, now what's the fuss about this time? I bet it's because I stole that greedy blacksmith's gold, right?" She grabbed the sack of gold and tossed it at the Dragonborn, "Take it back to him. It wasn't enough for what I need." She smirked, "Or, you could keep it and be on your way."

01-26-2013, 02:13 AM
"That's not how it works, Thief." Kharre said, catching the sack if gold with her shield hand as she rested her sword on her shoulder "I have to take you in, one way or another. Whether you come quietly or bound, that is not my choice. That falls to you."

01-26-2013, 02:35 AM
She sighs and grabs her bag, "You're not making it easy for me to like you..." As she grabs a handful of dirt to put out the fire a loud chirping fills the air. The girl gives you a look of fear, "Look, I know we're not on good terms right now, but if you really want to collect your payment and see me hang, you need to help me fight these spiders."

Before you can react a swarm of medium spiders leap from the trees around you and begin creeping toward you.
