I think the first issue that needs disscussion, is some suggestions Shane made for the board. She suggested boards for Recognition(birthdays etc), a board for welcome back and leaving threads, as well as a board for MotM.

I joined a while back, but never got added.
Anyway, about the Recognition board: I think we should just have a stickied "Birthday Thread". And seeing all the people making "Back" threads we should have a thread for that too; at least until the wave has crashed. MOTM seems ok how it is now; if it ever gets done that is.

I would like to say that MOTM is rather pointless, and MOTY is the only thing that should be done.

Hmm. Good point. Perhaps we could do a MotS(Member of the Season) Then it wouldn't be once a year, but not as rushed as it being once a month.
i like the idea of a birthday thread, but I think that seperate threads, while taking up more space, makes it feel less personal. It really depends on what is more important.
And yes VT, we need to get MotY started as soon as possible. If someone could get me a list of categories I would go ahead and make the thread.

MotS would be better. But do we do it by quarter or by actual season?
Seasonal:Spring = March 21 ~ June 20
Summer = June 21 ~ September 20
Autumn = September 21 ~ December 20
Winter = December 21 ~ March 20
Or
Quarterly:Q1 = January 1 ~ March 31
Q2 = April 1 ~ June 30
Q3 = July 1 ~ September 30
Q4 = October 1 ~ December 31
Quarterly is much easier to keep track of, but we could still just call it seasonal.

Personally I don't see any real point to birthday, leaving, or back threads, but if we gotta have 'em; put 'em all together in one thread to keep the clutter down. We already have too many forums.

Yeah, I also agree that Member of the Season would be better than month. 12 times a year is quite a lot...
Karisuma-Teichou
01-08-2006, 05:08 AM
Doing it 12 times a years is a lot seeing as how not that many people vote. Although I do like the season idea we just need to remember when this start.
I think having a sub-forum for Birthdays would be good because yuo get that once a year.
Can I ask how Pika57 was made Captain of Other Chat....when I was the only one that posted idea's for it? If so then anything having to do with my idea's I must see seeing as how I seemed to be the only one that took a good hard look at that section and tryed to come up with something.
Surly Professor
01-08-2006, 05:18 AM
But why do we need a whole forum for something people only get once a year?
Leaves & backs only come in fits & starts so one thread each could contain them and be much more orderly. And the MotS/Y is only 2 threads every few months.
Lets just make a few stickies instead of making another forum for this "time to time" stuff.

Pika57 won the position with unanimous votes from the TMI executives. We discussed this pretty carefully in an AIM conversation yesterday, and that’s what we had agreed upon, as well as the other captains in for their own sections.
It was based on a lot more than just who put out the most ideas.
Karisuma-Teichou

It seems kinda hard to be made Captain when you haven't posted anything about it. I thought it was based on peoples plans on the section. That's why I went through and did it because no one else had even bothered to do it. I gto some good reactions from my ideas yet someone else gets the spot when I saw that they haven't posted anything about the section. When they get the spot they think they can put my plans into action when they haven't even talked to me about it. It's not like I'm that hard to reach. Not to be mean but I come up with ideas et someone else gets the glory.

To me it sounds like you’re angry at Pika57 because he’s using your ideas. We’re meant to work together as a team, if you’re submitting ideas to the TMI, then we’re all going to do our best effort to work on them and make them possible. You can’t “steal” ideas from another TMI member, because those ideas are on the behalf of all of the TMI, not just one individual person. This is not meant to be a competition among ourselves…
Second, I really don’t want anyone to think that because they didn’t make captain that it automatically means they’re no longer considered and their voices aren’t heard. No way. Captains are the ones in charge of their sections and seeing to it that the best ideas are put into action, and that everything is in order. But it's the individual members of each section working together that makes the biggest impact.
This isn’t something that should be annoying you that much, Tony. Everyone here doesn’t need to be a captain to make a difference.
Karisuma-Teichou
01-08-2006, 06:11 AM
Well you were sappose to fill out an application to become a Captain and all the current Captains filled one out but Pika57 never did. So what was the point of that? I haven't really see him do anything sence I posted my ideas. You think it doesn't bother me...well in a way it does. I do everything right...fill out everything I'm sappose to, and take time out of my life to help with something and I get nothing. If yuor gonna do it...do it like you say your gonna not not what you wanna do.

Shane, i beleive I was as suprised as you were. I didn't know they were going to make me captain. I hadn't really thought about applying at all. All I do know is that they had a reason for choosing me. I don't know what it is.
If you feel something is going to happen by you arguing(for lack of a more appropriate word, because it isn't exactly arguing)that will benefit this department then feel free to continue.
Now to buissness.
Surly, Quarterly is good, Easier to keep track of than seasonal.
And if we are going to make a welcomes and leaves board, it might as well also have birthdays. So just one sub board for that should work.
Also we need to start on MotY as soon as possible. I may go ahead and put the threads up today.
Also, as far as i know, the votes fro mthe November Motm were never tallied. I'll also try to get that done.

Why can't we just have one big "Recognition" board? It covers everything. Recognizing Leaves/Welcome Backs, recognizing Birthdays. Then we could create a sub-forum for MotS and MotY.
Having MotS quartly is definately better than seasonally. But would we call it Spring MotS, Summer MotS, Fall MotS, and Winter MotS? If we did that it should probably go like this - January 1 ~ March 31: Winter / April 1 ~ June 30: Spring / July 1 ~ September 30: Summer / October 1 ~ December 31: Fall
Shane, don't worry about it. It doesn't really matter who the leader is. We all work together anyways. Plus, I'm pretty sure the MotS idea was borrowed from Dani and she's not in here getting mad at everyone.
One last thing, this is my "join" post.

Welcome to the department.
The recognition board is good. However If we move to MotS/Q, I guess a sub board would be nice for that as well. ASnd naming each quarter sounds muc hbetter than just Quarter 1 Quarter2 etc.

I'm going ahead and putting up MotY. Or at least for now it will be that. in awhile I'll probably put up a thread explaining the new system.
Another idea I would like to bring up is a Hall of Fame. Neo and I discussed a possibility earlier and it seems like a good idea.
There are many contests and events on the forum. Yes, the winners do win prizes, but perhaps we can do more and honor them in a Hall of Fame. It should be a simple thread that lists members based on what awards they have won and such. Similar to both the PE2K Art Museum and the URPG Record List, the Hall of Fame would stands as a totem to the accomplishments of the members.

Yes Double Post... Won't kill anyone.
Hkim brought up the idea of bringing back the commedy competion, that was normally used in WAR.
I like the idea and think it would be a fun thing to read.
My thoughts: Maybe once a month, to give everyone time to get it done. A poll would be good for deciding the winner, as judges are often hard to come by.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Miscellaneous idea: I'm hearing complaints over from the RP and Fan Fic areas of lots of pointless threads that sometimes mods don't notice. My suggestion is this: if we have one thread, most likely in Other Chat, where people can post links to threads anywhere on the forum that they think should be locked. That way the moderators can check there to see if there's any jobs that need doing, making it easier for them, and better for everyone as the forum gets tidied up.

Might be a good idea actually. VT used to help me by pointing out threads that I sometimes overlooked and didn't catch. Not every thread easily looks like spam (even though there are plenty that do).

Well, my only thing with that is... which mod do you PM if none of them are on? Do you PM one, or PM them all? And if one, who should it be to ensure that it's taken care of?
Other than that, you're right though. That's been my only problem with it...

Well, only thing with that is it clutters up your email. Yeah, it works all right, expect it sends ALL mods an email.
I remember getting 20 emails whenever there was a bad spam attack. It's a lot to delete, but yeah, it does get your attention. I guess that can work, but it seems like there's no surefire way of handling it without some kind of drawback.
But for now, just stick with the report button. That's probably the best way to handle it.

I like the idea of the poll. Letting members decide what entry is the funniest. I'm sure there will be a lot of insanity, but all entries inappropriate to the forum should be disqualified. I'm sure you know what those entries would be.
Do you plan on running it yourself or will someone else do it? Also, anyone have a name for it?

In the WAR a topic was made and competitors would write a screenplay or make a picture or something.

Unfortunately for me, Neo speaks the truth. Just like all other comedy, making fun of the forum leaders is always popular.
This looks like an easy contest to get going in terms of organization. Shall we make it monthly or is that too long?

Monthly sounds a little too long. Let's keep in mind that PE2K banner of the week is only like... a week.
Biweekly at most sounds best, otherwise people easily forget about it and lose their interest over it. Besides, most humor entries that were done for the War were only one post long. They don't take that long to write...

I think one is definately needed. But how it would be organized, I don't know. It would also need to be decided, what qualifies for the Hall of Fame. You say "banner contest", but which ones? BOTW? What about the various spriting competions that come up? Should the winners of those be included too? I feel that those who defeat a gym(s) definately deserve a spot.
Then the organization. Should it be split into topics? Art contests (includes spriting, banner making, ect.), Gyms, Comedy Competition, ect. Or should there be another way to set it up? Or should the categories just be more specific, or more broad?

Split into topics is definitely good. And yes by Banner making competitions I meant BotW.
I don't think topics will need to be incredibly specific, though.

Well this section has been inactive for over a month. What's going on? How come very little has been done?
Well I've been gone the last week..
The main problem is that very few people are checking this board. As you can see quite a while ago I tried to disscuss a Hall of Fame, but there was very little creative input.
Also I'm glad to see how much you care about the Other Chat Department, seeing that the other departments are more or less doing the same, and I failed to notice any comments in those areas.
But you are correct, TMI has done very little for several months now, the only exception I can see being Brons RPing school.
So if anyone happens to see this, please offer some input on the Hall of Fame idea.

Heh, we've done a lot more or less, but we've had a bit of troube in some areas.
I do like the Hall of Fame idea, especially considering the numerous competitions and activies we have around here. It would be nice to show PE2K what's going on.
As I see it, it can be organized two ways. We can do it by sections based on different competitions or we can base it by members.
If we do it by section, we would probably have one person in charge of the thread listing out the different competitions with the winners in each and updating every so often. This would be an organized and efficient manner to do things and would allow members to see the various events on the forum. The problem is that it is difficult for one person to update alone.
The second option is to let members update their own personal records in a sort of URPG Stats method. Members can keep track of their victories in their own post, which other people can see. It makes it easier on the moderators who would have to update the thread otherwise.
The idea will work. The only thing I worry about is the Other Chat section. There are already over a million stickies there...

I know... so many stickies...
I know I need to get the Commedy Contest unstickied... it didn't have much participation, and we need some new ideas to boost activity in it before another challenge is created.
Also, while i have been agaisnt having a board to store threads related to MotS, It may be necesary to reduce the number.
I also had a thought relating to the Trivia/Games Boards. Pidge stopped the Mafia, becasue once it was moved to the Other Trivia/Games Board, and it imediately lost activity. Is it possible that the Other Trivia/Games Board could possibly be annexed to the Other Chat Board, and that the Pokemon Trivia/Games Board be put under the General Pokemon board? I know this was one situation, but some games fit the other chat theme well.

You know what, that sounds like a great idea. It would help us with space in Other Chat and increase activity in that board. Plus, the real benefit for this idea is that it is easy for Ryan to implement. If he approves, he can do it within minutes.

Shane, do you mean a board/sub-board for ALL stickies?
Didn't we discuss this HoF a while back? Oh well.
I am in total support of the Hall of Fame. Though I think it would be easier for everyone to update their own awards, I think one person should be in charge of it for organizational purposes. That way awards can be listed in categories and the format will all be the same. For example, in the VPP Hof thread, everyone posts their stats the way that they like it. Not a very uniform way to do it, but it works best for that situation. I think this HoF would work better with just one person running it. If it is decided that the thread should be made, the question is how do we organize it? What contests will go in which section? Increased support for this thread would greatly help....but yeah. I (and I'm sure plenty of other people) would love to see this thread go up.
I have some thoughts of my own as to how to organize it, but meh, I'd like to see if there's any support for this thing first.

Hmm.. I guess I should Suggest a Format:
Title
Explanation of HoF
Winners of each seasons MotS Award(Just the Award for MotS, not any of the other awards), followed by a link to the results thread for each MotS contest.
List of Winners of Repeating Contests(Contests that occur at reguarly set times of year, such as Smeargles Art Challenge, Commedy Contest[If it ever becomes active], etc)
List of winners of one time contests, or contests that don't run on a set schedule(various art contests and such)
The Contests that are displayed would probably have to sign up.

Hmm, I was thinking it should focus more on categories. Like all of the art contests grouped together, writing contests together, ect. But you're idea is probably better.
What do you think about giving these re-occuring contests each their own post? After a while, the first post could get a bit crowded with things like BotW being updated every other week. I think the one time contests could all be placed in the same post. Then each of the re-occuring contests have a post or two reserved for them only. Thoughts?

Good point. And yes Categories is a a good idea, this organizational patern was thought of on a whim, so to speak. Just to have some ground work to build off of.
So Categpries might be a good way to do it. I can't see any downside to either way.

I was serious when I said I like your idea better. But really the two can be merged. We can have two major categories - One time contests and Re-occuring contests. Which will then be divided into categories. Each will have the categories in the same order, for uniformity's sake.
One Time Contests
-[art contests listed first]
-[then writing contests]
-[ect.]
Re-Occuring Contests
-[art contests listed first, like Smeargle's Art Challenge and BotW]
-[then writing contests]
ect, ect. That's just an example. I don't know. Thoughts?
What about gym contests? There would be tons of those to list though. Should we include the individual gym challenges? Or just like Gyms challenging Gyms? Personally, I think it should include Gyms challenging Gyms and no more. Though so far there haven't been any of those...

i owuld think It would be all right to list people who have beaten gyms(so far there have been only so many, less than ten i beleive)
That's because gym trainers are too slow or innactive and the contests take way too long.
Have we decided already on one person updating a single list?
If so, perhaps we should have multiple people doing it so as to not overburden that one person.
Do you plan on keeping track of awards for sections that already have such a thing such as the War or URPG?

Duh! (that was directed toward myself) I was referring to the individual challenges (it takes two to get a badge, I think). But your right, we'll include people who have defeated gyms. And unfortunately, things are very slow, like D.2 said. But I really think that problem would be solved if the gyms got their own board.

Hmm, well are you saying each person keep track of one section? That's a good idea (I hope that's what you meant). I had originally thought that one person would post the results in the HoF thread and the leaders of the contests would PM the results to that person. And/or have a seperate thread where the HoF could be discussed and errors pointed out, ect. If Pika57 agrees, though, we'll go with separate people for each section (and/or one person can cover more than one section). And what do you think about a discussion thread? Is it necessary? Or should we wait and see how the HoF goes first?
Do you plan on keeping track of awards for sections that already have such a thing such as the War or URPG?
I don't know much about the War or URPG. So it's Pika's call. Though I would assume that we would include the War because it's such a major part of pe2k, and the URPG is exclusive to pe2k (I think) so....

Having multiple people doing it would be good, if each one was in charge of some section or other. But I think it would work well with a single active member incharge. If we do, use a multiple person format, we'd need at least one mod to handle the posts of people who go away over a short period of time.
On War and URPG, I would say no too URPG(perhaps a link to there HoF in the first post), but I beleive that War could work well(depending on the number of awards there are, if there are to many, then we may just include a link to the thread).

A Seperate Disscussion Thread might be a good idea. I would recomend not stickying it though. If it is a good idea, people will post in it, if not then it will eventually die.

On a note that isn't strictly related to this department, the gyms were pretty inactive before War preparations had begun. Even after the War, there will be a drop in activity, that migth hurt gyms even more.

*grumbles* I still insist that our own board would increase activity...
Anywho, um, so what must be done next to get this thing started? Why don't we go ahead and decide on some of the specifics as to what should be included?
Under Re-Occurring Contests, we'll start with art as it is probably one of the largest. BotW and Smeargle's Art Challenge are the two obvious ones that we've already stated. It seems that Surly Professor has started an Evolutionary Sprite Challenge? If there are any others, please tell me. There's also MotS. I think we should just provide a link to the winners of each of those though. Like, update it with different links every time there's a voting. That is, if you think it should even be included. I think it should, but feel free to disagree. Then of course the War. Once again, totally your call on how they're listed, because I've never seen the War results before.
Under One-time Contests, we have various spriting contests and the whole Winter Festival thing that was done a while back. So far I've dug up....*sigh* a million that were never finished. Scratch that. Then there's the comedy competition. I don't know where you would include that. Re-Occurring or One-Time?
I know that you are (or at least you mentioned it) going to put up a contest application thing, but I think it's important that we include contests that have already passed, too. That's why this post is here. :)
Edit: This post is directed toward Pika57 and HKim.

All those listed are good, and I would definitely recomend the Evolutionoary Sprite Challenge.

If the results were taken down, then they're probably too far back to bother putting them in the HoF anyways. As for those that weren't published, I think they should be included as long as the contests were finished. If the results were just never officially posted, but are there, the winners still deserve a place for their accomplishments.

I don't think we should go very far back looking for contests where the winners were not contacted. So i really don't think we should go looknig for anything. We could be better spending our time in other ways.

Sorry about the double post. Major discussion topics.
Note that me and Pidge are going to Be doing the MotS tally for now.
Current Stickies(10 total)
DCC
Leaves/Temporary Leaves/I'm Back
The Pair Up Thread
What do you look like?
MotS Discussion Thread
PE2K Comedy Contest
Find a PE2K Member Near You
PE2K Photo Album
The PE2K Address Book
Suggested list(5 in all)
DCC
Leaves/Temporary Leaves/I'm Back
The Pair Up Thread
PE2K Member Fact file
HoF
The MotS Threads will be taken down, as soon as Pidge as I finish the tally. New thread swill probably be added again for the spring contest, but we can probably not use/sticky, the discussion thread.
What do you look like?
Find a PE2K Member Near You
PE2K Photo Album
The PE2K Address Book
All of these can be compiled into Katera's PE2K Fact file.
PE2K Comedy Contest.
This can be locked and unstickied as soon as a mod wishes it. It didn't last very long, and had very little activity whatsoever. If it ever returns, I'll recommend it for the creative writing board.
Also, I want to bring back up the idea of putting the Other Trivia/Games Board as a sub board to the other Chat Board, and moving Pokemon Trivia/Games, under the Pokemon General Board.

DCC = fine
Leaves/Temporary Leaves/I'm Back = fine
The Pair Up Thread = a joke, should have been unstickied long ago.
What do you look like? = unsticky.
MotS Discussion Thread = unsticky asap.
PE2K Comedy Contest = burn it down.
Find a PE2K Member Near You = fine, but the creator should be updating it.
PE2K Photo Album = fine
The PE2K Address Book = turn it into FactFile info, and sticky THAT.
Most basic Factfile and Address information can be found on our own profiles. I'm wondering how much we really need those threads to begin with...
Why not create a FactFile form, for anyone who wants to, to send out to whoever wants it? Then we don't have to keep making these tedious threads which are inevitably going to become chit-chat threads. I know if i want to know somebody's age or email address, i look on their individual profile, not go sifting through a friggin thread. They may be fun to fill out or whatever, but how necessary are they?

Katera recently made a factiflie, so the plan would be to dump all of the threads(photos address and etc) into that. If people want to discuss it, do it in another non-stickied thread, or in the DCC. I don't See why a photo album should be separate.
I believe that the pair up thread needs to be started anew, with an active member or moderator put in charge, so the list is on the first page.

Hmm, I'm kind of with !ceman on the separate photo album thing. People are always getting new pictures and commenting on others. If you updated your file with a new picture every time, no one would know. If you did it like that, "What do you look like?" and the "Photo Album" can probably be combined.
The other stuff you mentioned though ("Pe2k Address Book" and "Find a Pe2k Member near you"), does need to be combined into Katera's Pe2k Factfile thread.

I do beleive you, I'm sure peoples opinions differ. Thats why this thread is here. So we can disscuss it. The point is, we need to cut back on some stickies. Everyone is complaining about them. So why have two threads with very similar purposes?
Edit: Also, I've decided to make Sky Girl this sections second Co-Captian. She seems like she really wants to help improve the Other chat board, and is one of the only members of this department active in this thread.

The DCC has seemed dry recently, and the other threads just don't interest me. Would you post if the didn't interest you?

Yeah, the photo album is better than the what do you like thread, if used for the intended purpose :P.
What Sky Girl and !ce kinda said, why not make ONE <Fact thread> where everything is combined, a pic + all the info (location/fact file/whatever), and have the first page be as in the URPG stats (a name with a hyperlink to the post).
There's no need for a discussion thread, cus what's there to discuss? "OML YOU LOOK TEH NICE, OML YOU TEH HAWT FACTS" period :\.
(Btw, the what do you look like thread should still exist in unstickied form to have fun with :P).

Well actually I had also thought that "What do you look like?" and "Photo Album" should be combined. But you do make a good point. Since the Photo Album and Factfile are both threads which you browse through without them being cluttered by comments, how about this arrangement...
[Find a PE2K Member Near You, Pe2k Photo Album, and The PE2K Address Book] -> Pe2k Member Fact file (sticky)
"What do you look like?" (unsticky)
Then if it becomes nessecary we can create a discussion thread for the factfile, because a lot of the time people end up commenting on what each other posted instead of limiting it to their info. (I think that's kind of what Pika meant when he suggested a discussion in the first place)
Also, I used to be very active in the OC, but recently I just haven't seen much that I wanted to reply to.

Yeah thats pretty much what I meant by removing most of those threads, and replacing them with the Factfile. In fatc, Katera has already made a factfile, so we'll just need to contact him.

Yes but they can work together. The basis of the photo album was to put photos of yourself on only one page, so it would be easy fro people to scroll down and find your page. You can put pictures in the Factfile, and it works the same way.
And Iceman, The Tally was a joke. VT would not get off my back about every single little thing I suggested.

I don't think PE2K is in a rut, not since we finally found a stable server and the entire mess was cleaned up. Just some member disagree with how Ryan runs things. Even I do at times.
But I believe Ryan has done as well as he can given the wide variety of opinions everyone has had. And VT, of course, running things your way would lead only to a Pokemon Forum similar to Noob4Haxorz. The forum has remained a stable and free community for pokemon fans.
We may not have as many moderators as Serebii, PC, or BMG; but neither do we have the chocking beauracracy that they all have to deal with. Serebii's admin is a dictator, PC mods don't agree with each other, and BMG's leadership structure keeps changing because they haven't found a system that works yet. We have it pretty good being able to do what we want and still be free from a wide variety of problems such as DDoS attacks and massive spam raids.
Of course, Ryan does change his mind guys. Heh, I've known him long enough to know that he does grow to like new ideas. It just takes time. As long as we have a valid argument and support to back it up (and time to wait), he does come around to agreeing. Not many admins even listen to what the members say.
