View Full Version : [POLL] Stats Sub-Board?

Since the forum is at last using the Sub-Boards how about creating a Sub-Board in "URPG: General Board" for Trainers Stats. Of course with some rules for restrictions and violations that might accure due to this system. First of all, a member posts his stats ONCE in his life time and updates. Secondly, each stats thread can have a maximum number of THREE posts (A post for Trainer stats, another for Gym stats or Elite stats, and in VT's case, he has a stats that is 10,000 characters in length, how will he add Pokemon if he didn't have multi-pages stats and such...). And as a stickied three threads in that Sub-Board, I will have a Guide that will show us which members are in which pages, and I will have a locked Stats rules thread, and a Stats Discussion thread (Here you can say who is cheating or not, and whose stats needs updating and such).
Please do comment and do vote, personally, I vote "Yes" for this because I liked the idea, and it reduces the crowdness in the current Stats Thread and even the General Board by having Stats Guide (Unupdated due to MANY members, most unactive). I hope you agree with me.
The current Stats Page will be locked and stickied in the Stats Sub-Board for archieve, if an old member came and wanted his stats back or something like that, he'll simply find it untouched.

Very nice Idea Tamer San. But if people were to have their own thread, they could keep posting their pokes if they have more than they can have in 1 post. Some people like having images for pokes and if it goes over 40, the post limit, then people want to keep going. They abviously are going to complain. So you can keep letting them post, or require no images. That is my opinion. Also, I agree.

As I said, each stats thread can have a maximum of 3 posts. And each stats thread is only for ONE member and no one else is allowed to post in it. ^_^

But what if someone had no images and filled up their pokemon post? Would they post again?
Tamer San
02-12-2006, 12:17 PM
It depends Light Espeon, I mean, if they don't need to post again, why would they post? It is just a maximum limit of three posts, but if everything is fine in only one or two posts then there is no need for a third post.

Well, if they need to extend beyond 3 posts, what would they do?

I doubt any one will need over 30,000 characters for a stats page, trust me.

Ok, but if that ever happens, I'll tell you.

I don't think everybody having their own thread works, it takes wayy too long to navigate through and people would end up bumping their own threads often.
I was thinking of making a few threads, maybe put them all in a new board, then limit that thread to a certain number of posts before a new thread is made to accomodate the new stats. I think this would be pretty easy and wouldn't cause people to bump since most likely they'd all be on the first page of threads on the board.
The problem is there, definitely, I spent quite a while looking through for a person's stats. I guided myself by their join date, usually the people who joined earlier started URPG earlier. It worked. I think I'll give myself a pat on the back for this

Good point SS, but I still do believe that a Trainer Stats guide will help you find the thread you want if it was for each member. And about bumping threads, I will simply not allow it, because this will ruin the Trainer Stats Guide and the member will be banned for a while for doing so. When you do your first page of stats, you do "Place holders" so you would have 3 posts each stats thread like planned. And you simply edit instead of posting new stuff in your own thread. And I will be strict about this subject.

Our suggestions don't actually differ much anyway. Both requires two clicks after entering the board, yours is probably better because trainers don't have to memorize the thread they posted their stat in and they get more space for it too.

Lol, good point, all you have to do is either read Stats Guide or remember which page you have your stats in!

I like this idea. Instead of having to memorize which page my stats are on. Ijust search the word "Chaobreeder" Much easier. I don't think I'll be able to pass 30,000 characters ever.

Its a nice idea Tamer but i think it would create more problems so my answer is No, i think the Trainer Stats Guide does its job quite well :wink2:

Except, when I try and get to mine. There is TT's stats on the same page. So I got to waste like 5 seconds on his post just to get to the next 8 or 9.

You would say so because you aren't the one who has to update it any more ^^
We now have hundreds of members, most of them are inactive and that makes the Stats Thread and the Guide Thread crowded for no reason at all.

Ooh, I like this. My stats were posted in <2004>. No one is just gonna look at them, they'd have to click my sig. :P
So, yeah, I'm all for the new subforum~ I also bet it'd be easier to catch cheating now. :)

Good, cheating will be easier to be caught now, never thought of it but it is correct. Thanks Miravana.

Yes because it is frickin' easyer my stats where on page 24 but I put them on a Pro boards forum 'cos the trainer stats guide it to clutered.

Ok, you do have a point :P but still after everyone posts there stats in the forum, the people who posted first would have to go through numerous pages just to get to there own. And if someone wanted to look at thier opponents stats, how would they go about finding them? (unless this have already been stated and im too much of a idiot to notice)

One other flaw I noticed about the current system. What if somebody does surpass 10,000 characters in their stats? Then they'd have to post again. So just to look up the stats you got to go to two different pages.

I won't be calling you idiot, but I already mentioned a better system of a Stats Guide depending on forum page numbers instead of alphabets. It is easier to update that way, and just a little bit to search through it, but at least an updated Guide can be surfed while an unupdated Guide is actually, "useless".

Please people, try to read posts. I already said so >_>
I like the idea, because the Trainer Stats Guide has like over 20 names of inactive members and you can make the stats cleaner and more accurate when you have more space to use.

Well, you can just do a rollcall if you need to find out the active trainers. Plain text is pretty clean actually, you don't actually need images to make a post clean(Oh the poor dialup users, let us think for them too).

How sweet, you remind me of Raik, but you are "nice"! XD
And a rollcall for trainers is...hard and will be messy and take much time xD

well if its not broke why the hell do you want to fix it?
The current system works fine...however get someone in there to clean out all the inactive trainers..I'm of course speaking of trainers who have been banned or inactive for a certain period of time and havent really made any progress.(There are probably a couple dozen with mons that have never battled...)

Current system is fine
New system "could" be better
Personally, I am ready to risk and try to create a better system that can be better, if I failed, I can get back to the old system easily, since as I said, I will never delete the current Stats thread because it is archieve.

I just dont see the point in making unnecesary "improvements" the current system works fine

I don't see the problem. The current system is close to perfect. I have no bother with the inactive trainers in the Stats Guide, since I just go to the name I want, I don't mind if I come across a few inactive names. We'd have to go through a lot of work to set this up Tamer, while there's nothing wrong with the current system.

But still it will be easyer all you have to to is search for your name and you have got your stats up.

i would agree with this idea. With the trainer stat guide thread,it wouldn't change so much,so we would keep more accurate stats.
Problems:
1) is boring to fix the trainer stats guide
2) boring to make a new one and add all the stats...
3) without guide,is hard to make it work.

I like this idea. If your in active in the URPG (aka Me), you can keep track of all of your stats in a single board.

Actually what you told me two nights ago inspired me to rethink of it, you told me that you have over 10,000 characters in your stats and you wanted Ryan to change that thing at least for URPG. I thought of it and said: "What the heck?!" I revived a dead idea that most of you agreed on it in the past, but not as a Sub-Board but as a new board.

As long as no one comes up with a better idea, I'm all for this one.

People want more space, basically. I think it's retarded but I think the new idea is much neater and people get their own personal space. Basically we want to make the people who don't feel special feel special

As a lazy ahole, I didn't bother reading the thread, but...
An extra board is nice. If you're really worried about clutter of 100000 topics, how about this instead? Have a seperate trainer stat list for names from A-D, E-H, etc... , and then another seperate thread for GYM stats. That way, trainers will be trainers, gyms will be kept seperate, and all will be well. The rest of the forum can be dedicated to Stat inquiries and such, like "How did you get the Skarmory" or "wtf why isn't my snorlax wearing any pants" or something like that.
