Scylla Gym's Umbreon Shadow versus the challenger, Surly Professor!
Their challenge was a simple one; to create an evolution for the Pokemon Qwilfish. Both had free-range on their entries. Here is what they came up with:

Umbreon Shadow's 'Spikemish'

Surly Professor's 'Fencer'
Please vote for which entry you think is the best. Voting ends on March 7th, so make sure you cast those votes!
Beautiful job on Surly's part. It looks like it came from a game, plus it's all spikey.

As much as I like Umbreon Shadow's, I'm going to have to go with Surly's. They are both great, but Surly's has, less to be desired.
I like both, but Surly's rock, a marlin!I really like the pose and the colors.

I liked US's. It's not that I don't like Surly's; infact I like his better. However...Surly's doesn't really look like quilfish, but if it was a...maybe huntail evo, Surly woulda got my vote.

I like Surly's, it's amazing, he made the outline look very smooth, the coloring and shading is amazing. He's got my vote. But US's is very nice too, I like the idea of it, a fish with spikes on it's back is cool.

This one is tough for me.
Fencer looks really clean and executed, but it needs more of the Qwilfish look.
US captures Qwilfish's evolution better than Surly. The colors seem a little bland compared to Fencer. Spikemish's head looks weird too.
I voted for US.
Hmmm, both are good entries and both work.
If you put Surly's pokemon's head on Umbreon's pokemon's body, that actually might be better overall as an evolution.
Anyway, I voted for Surly based on appearance.
They both rock. But I chose SP's. It is better in quality, plus, I think its more of a likely evo for Quilfish.
Yours is very creative, US.

Both are fantastic, but Surly's seemed more like Qwilfish in its colour scheme and continues the Pokemon tradition of looking like a familiar animal. Well done to both.

They're both fantastic sprites, but I'll have to choose Surly Professor's because IMO, it was sprited better. Yet Umbreon Shadow's captured Qwilfish more to me, so it was a rather tough decision.

I voted for Surly's because I thought it was a much more refined sprite than US's. Both very good sprites though

Surly's sprite has no obvious shading, while it is still there if you look closly.

Fencer doesn't look much like Qwilfish, and it looks a lot like a real animal... BUT THAT THING IS BEAUTIFUL! I've never seen anything like it! You've superbly executed the "shiny" look, gave it an amazingly 3-D pose, and managed to keep enough cartoony look to qualify it as a pokemon! Sweet!
Anyway, Spikemish is cool, but its pose is just another side view, the shading doesn't look natural... and it just looks sad! A better pose, cooler expression. It has lots more originality, but the sprite is poorly executed in itself. This isn't a contest on concept, it is specifically a sprite contest.

Everyone keeps saying that Surly's poke doesn't look like Qwilfish at all, but I must bring this up..
How does a Remoraid look anything like an Octillery? :3

O.O D*** SURLEY!! You freakin went all out with that sprite. I love it so much! To me it looks nothing like a pokemon which is great. I have always wanted pokemon sprites that look realistic and you my friend have given me that sprite.

Voted for Surly.
US's looked more unrealistically, and had some weird pixels near the left top.

Surly by far. It's just so awesome... it even looks realistic!
