This for Emerald anyways Mudkip for easy play through the game eventually evolving to a Water/Ground Marshtomp.Good Poke to use a gainst most of the gyms.

Treecko Easy to train but had to use sometimes but is helpful in the elite four(Emerald).I Used this one

Torchic good Fire Type and when Combusken part Fire/Fighting Type helpful later on in the game hard to train at the start.Helpful at Elite Four too.

Treecko requires breeding for good moves same as Mudkip.
Torchic you dont have to.
So its up to you what you choose.I used Treecko but its totally up to you.

Sort of what Link said.

If you want an easy beginning, start off with Mudkip. It takes the first gym no problem. When it evolves, it becomes a ground/water and obviously gains both types of moves. It can come in handy if you're battling team Magma.

Torchic, when it evolves, becomes quite good for later gyms. It's a good pokemon to use when you battle your father, who, in my opinion, is the hardest gym leader to beat.(I started out with Torchic)

Treecko is pretty useless without breeding. Before you beat the E4 and such, I don't know if you'll be willing to gain what you need to use it right. Not to mention, you'd have to get a female. =P It stays pure grass type all game. It is very fast though.

When I started Sapphire with Treecko, I soon learned I could not use it early on or at all really. If you're not willing to breed and take the time and effort, Treecko is not for you.

I always use Torchic as a starter, I like a good disavatage at the start.

There isn't an advantage with Torchic....

Who said anthything about an advantage and yes there is an advantage in the E4 against the first elite 4 and third elite 4 with Blaziken. I admit Torchic looks retarded and Combusken isn't to cool but Blaziken pays off.

rby- charmander
gsc- totodile
rse- treeko

its just my opinion =\ they really balanced them out in RSE, making swampert ground/water so sceptile beats it no matter what pretty much. in rby and gsc if blastoise/feraligatr had an ice attack, they stood a decent chance =\

Well I'm new here, but I know my way around Pokémon as I've been a member of Psypoke for over one year. (I'm Magus over there)

It's really up to you.

Mudkip-gets alot of type advantages making it easy to use early on, plus when it evolves into Swampert it can learn Earthquake, Surf and Ice Beam some of the best attacks in the game.

Treecko-it's also got an advantage against the first gym and also against the last gym, Sceptile can learn a unique move called Leaf Blade and Aerial Ace, Earthquake making it a good Pokémon to have around in some tight situations.

Torchic-has a bit of difficulty against the first gym if it's not evolved, Blaziken can learn Flamethrower, Earthquake, Sky Uppercut, Aerial Ace, Brick Break, really a great pokémon to have.

I personally like Mudkip best, but that's just me it's really up to you.

Swampert wins best starter hands down.

After all, it's actually usable in link battles. And unlike Sceptile, it doesn't have a problem with taking hits.
