View Full Version : The Rare Candy

I have read several times that the rare candy is not good for your Pokemon because of the stats and EVs won't boost enough. But once you have your EVs full, is it safe to use a Rare Candy? If the answer is no, then excuse me for asking. I am very anxious to level my Pokemon:nervous:.

I am truly sorry about the double post but I am anxious. Will anybody shed light on the topic about the rare candy and when it is safe to use?

You could've edited your post, silly.
Anyway, I am fairly certain that it is perfectly safe to use Rare Candies after EV training your Pokemon. However, I am not sure if they make the stats of your Pokemon lower than they should be, since I once heard that leveling them up like normal will get you better stats in the long run.
Hope I've helped...

If I edited the post the post would still haven't appeared as new. Darn. You have helped but only half way. You did clarify the EV training safety thing. But like you said about leveling stats and rare candies could be unsafe.
My Metagross already has the effort ribbon so I know it would be safe.

To be honest; I would only use Rare Candies if I was desperate to level up my Pokemon. You should try leveling your Metagross up as many levels as you can by yourself, and then using Rare Candies if you must.
Hmm, I just got an idea. Level up your Metagross with a Rare Candy, and then reset your game (as in, don't save it). Level it up the normal way then and see if you get different stat results. It's worth a shot.

Yeah it is...my Metagross is at level 93. I'm only 7 levels away . But when stats increase doesn't it change depending on what pokemon you battle. Ok but gonna try your idea.
I really dont think rare candies change anything... my pokemon got +4 HP, +6 ATK, +3 DEF, +4 SPATK, +3 SPDEF, +3 SPD (I remeber because of the +6 ATK  ) when i used a rare candy, and his stats have been fine ever since, and ive trained him about 15 levels... it was an arcanine for the record

Megumi, I tried your idea and they get they same stat level up. I leveled up and used the rare candy and they give the same results. I guess it is safe to use Rare Candies after you finish EV training.

That's great! Congrats on finishing leveling up your Metagross. I remember one time I raised my Milotic to level 76-ish, and its Sp. Atk. stat went up by 22 in just one level. Not sure if it was the EV training, or the fact that I never used Candies...

22? How is that possible. From one level to the next, 22? WOW! Well it is Milotic. A Pokemon that seems strange to me. And what was its nature?

Candies don't do anything to your stats other than raising a level.
It offers no EVs whatsoever, so there's no difference to use them at Lv 5 or 95. The stat gain is always determined by the amount of EVs in that stat, the pokemon's IV in that stat, and the species base for that stat at that level.
There is never any harm in using Rare candy, unless it's from 99 to 100 before you complete your EV training, I think. But don't quote me on that one.
Personally, I'd Candy a pokemon up to ~30, EV train, and then boost the rest of the way with candies I find with my linoones.

Please don't pseudomod. If the mods want to close it, they will.
I think there's perfectly good grounds for discussion still, but that's really up to everyone else.

There something I still need cleared up about the Rare Candy. When Linoone or Zigzagoon use Pickup, what are the chances of them getting a Rare Candy?

If I remember correctly the chances of getting a Rare Condy is 5%. I have a bunch of Meowth I use for getting Rare Candies but, I haven't really found any yet.

It depepnds.
In Ruby and Sapphire, it was something like that, I dunno, it was random no matter what.
In Emerald, the chance depends on the level of the pick upper. At Lv 21+ you'd start picking them up, though it's like a 3% chance at 21-30, 5% at 31-40, 10% at 41-100.
Though the higher you go, the better the rest of the items get too. At Lv 91-100, you have a 30% chance for Hyper potion, a 10% chance for the Rare Candy, Protein, HP Up, Revive, Full Restore and Max Revive.
Although really, once you hit Lv 41, you can stop training the pickupper.

No if you plan to EV train later on.
Horrible if you plan to just use it to get to Lv 100 without battling.

Well I finished EV training my Ninetales and had 5 Linoones with me and whaddaya know, no Rare Candies. This really sucks. Gonna start EV training my Bagon and gonna have those Linoones, but they are at Lv. 25 or 27 so really low chance. But at least there IS a chance of getting Rare Candies. Thanks for the help everyone!

10% chance. And my Milotic had a Modest nature (+Sp Atk) so that might explain the freaky stat change!

Oh, and by the way, that just happened to me a few hours ago. My Ninetales got +17 in Speed. So your not the only one. It was the EV training that helped.

If you don't understand after you read it, your aren't/weren't the only one...It took me weeks to understand what EV training was and how it worked. Just today I fully understood the concept and how to do it.

Hey! I wrote that! :D
Which part was so difficult to understand? Well, it wasn't hard for me because I learned about Stat EXP back in RBY so the transition wasn't too bad, I guess.

It actually took me awhile to understand EVs. It's just confusing at first. And yes, I have looked at your guide before.

This MIGHT be considered spamming but the last thing I found out about the EV training that helped me understand was when I read that the way to get an EV point was to KO a pokemon and then you get your EV point. I originally thought you get EV points when you level up. That is when I realized EV training was SO easy compared to what I thought it was. I think EV training would be better explained in person. But, mlugia, your guide is still good. Helped clear up a lot of things.

Have no fear, I'll be sure to reword the guide someday.
Someday as defined as anywhere from a month to the time I get a girlfriend.
So... Yeah, pretty big timespan there :D

Q: What is thoses Efforts and how do you get those EVs?
A: When you get your pokémon, it will have all Efforts on 0, and
you will gain EVs from every battle where you get EXP.points (no Link Battles,
Battle Tower, etc.). Every KO pokémon (opponents) gives to your each
pokémon (which was on battle or have EXP. Share) some Effort (1-3).
Where it says "Every KO pokémon (opponents) gives to your each
pokémon" you should put To get an EV just KO a pokemon.
Every KO pokemon sounds like KO is a pokemon type and sounds unclear.
