I hope that this hasn't already been resolved somewhere, but I was kind of wondering, do you still get EV's from fighting pokemon in linked battles or in the union room? If this is a really stupid question, them I'm very sorry!

Eh? You can only get EVs from certain wild Pokemon and vitamins. I've never heard of getting EVs from linked battles.

I don't think you can. If your pokemon can't gain exp. points from linked battles, Im pretty sure they can't get any EVs, either.
It would be too easy for trainers to bulk up their EVs if they could just battle the same poke over and over.

I didn't think so, but I wasnt sure, so I thought I might as well ask, thanks. Also, is there a way you can tell how many EV's they have in each stat, or do you just have to keep track from the very start?
You have to keep track yourself.
It would be nice if there was an EV section in the stats. :P

There's no way of telling how many EV's your Pokemon have in any stat, unless you keep track of them from the get-go. It's a hassle but it's worth it.
BTW Megumi, you gets EV's from any wild/in-game Trainer Pokemon, not just from certain Mon.

It doesn't keep track for you, but there is a lady in Slateport (Emerald) who is able to tell you if your EVs on a Pokemon are maxed out - and only that.
EVs are such a pain sometimes. :ermm:
EDIT: Really? You can get EVs from trainers? Sounds like you have to EV train from the start if you don't want to get EVs that you don't need. Thanks for clearing that up for me, Tyrainitar.

Ah well, It was too much to hope for. Thanks for all the help! also, this might be just a little bit off of the subject, but what are IV's?
P. S. I heard that in Emerald there were berries that lowered your EV's!

Individual Values. They are values assigned to a Pokemon's six stats that determine how high or low the stat will be. They're only useful if you are trying to get a certain Hidden Power move. Also, you cannot change them.
EDIT: You are correct about the EV-decreasing berries in Emerald. They are extremely useful, actually. ;)

So if a pokemon has really low IV's for a particular stat, there is nothing that can be done about it and I should just try for one with higher IV's? That seems like so much useless work!

Yep. But both that and EV training can be quite beneficial. I recently finished EV training my Milotic, and its Sp. Atk became about 40 points higher than the non-EV trained Milotic I had before.

I have a question also.
When I try to beat the Spinda to increase my Sp.Atk, I check the stats and nothing changed.
Why.

I think that the ev's gained through battling only affect your stats at the level gain. I've another Question: in emerald, when you use the ev lowering berries, how can you tell when your ev's are full again, because they might already have an effort ribbon, and the lady only says it looks good on them or something like that.

*Nods.* Yeah, and also I think that a Mon holding Exp. Share gets EVs as well, though I'm not sure. It's kinda hard when you first start EV training a new Mon, especially one that you've hatched, since their levels are so low ><.

Yup, it's only after leveling up. For every four EV points you get into any stat, it'll increase by one point (yeah it sounds confusing I know ) upon leveling up.

So, if my Rayquaza beat ,I don't know, say, 25 spinda, and gained one level, how many points will it get in Sp. Atk?
P.S. What about lv.100 pkmn? They can't gain lv.s!

It'd get six extra points to Spe. Atk. And yeah, level 100 Mon can't level up anymore, so you wouldn't be able to apply the EV's a Mon would gain if it's level 100 and hasn't gotten all it's EV's yet.

For every 4 points, you gain 1 stat point at Lv 100. It's not even distribution, so it's not like you gain 1 point per 8 EVs at Lv 50, but you'll see the effects at Lv 100, so meh.

I think I kinda get it now. "Ding! Bum bada bum! RICHIE grew to level 79."
I see he gained 10 in Sp.Atk.
So, how many pokemon should I beat to totally max out my Sp.Atk and HP?
Help.

Hold on, doesn't the amount of EVs you get from a Pokemon change if the Pokemon that you are EV training is wearing the Macho Brace?

If your pokemon is level 100 than you are just out of luck, and you need four ev's in a stat for 1 stat gain when you levelup to level 100.

If the pokemon you're EV training is wearing a Macho Brace, then you only have to battle half the the amount of pokemon you would normally.
Most wild pokemon will give you 1 EV point upon defeating them, so to completely max out the stat, you would need to take down 255 of that pokemon (better to go to 252 because you can't get another stat point beyond that because 255 is not divisible by 4). However, if you have the Macho Brace on your pokemon, then you would only have to battle 126 of a pokemon that gives 1 EV point.
It's explained in depth on Serebii, here's the link http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-rs/ev.shtml

This is explained on Serebii too, but for those who are too lazy to go and look, pokemon holding EXP. Shares do get EV's, any pokemon that gains EXP in a battle will receive EV points. The EXP. Share way is slower though, because you can't use the Macho Brace.
