Well, I should be getting Emerald tomorrow - Thursday. And I was wondering about what pokemon should I choose (I like them all), what ones to prefferably catch and all that.

I also want tips of the use of pokemon and levels for which gyms.

Swampert, if you go solo, rapes just about every gym. I can see Mossdeep being a bit difficult with double battles though.

I ran through the game with a high level Linoone (candy hunter later) and a swampert...

Lol. I don't plan going solo. I also plan getting a Ralts, Swellow and Skitty at some point. :D

Get a Shroomish. Spore helps.

Yeah, early on (and perhaps later; might wanna ditch Swellow though) that party you suggested sounds good. Although Skitty...........uhh...your better off getting like a Geodude :) .

Shroomish is harder to train, it's growth curve or something like that takes 1,640,000 EXP points.

It's easier to train a Rayquaza!!

That information most likely isn't appliable, as I restarted my Sapphire, and caught a Shroomish. Torchic was my starter. Both are at the same level (22), and I've used Shroomish about half of how much I used Torchic/Combusken. Unless if they've changed those things in Emerald, Shroomish is not hard to train. (It gets Spore and Leech Seed! :D) Each pokemon also requires different amounts of EXP. to level up to 100 (in the same species, of course), so 1,640,000 EXP points is most likely on the high end.

How can you NOT resist that cute little mushroom?

Shroomish is a good idea. Breloom is cute too.

It probably suffers the erratic growth curve, which exponentially gets harder as level goes higher.

Keep in mind you have to raise a Shroomish to level 54 if you want your Breloom to know Spore. If you don't want to use a Shroomish, Sceptile is a nice choice for a Grass Pokemon as well. :D

This is me being biased, but I'd say that Milotic is mandatory. It tears through the Elite Four like you wouldn't believe. Not only that, it is one of the most powerful Water Pokemon in the whole game. The only real problem is finding a Feebas, obviously. It took me close to an hour to find mine...

Yes, Ralts would be a good choice. Gardevoir kicks serious butt.

BELIEVE me, I can RESIST that little mushroom.

I tried to raise a Breloom, but only got to lv.55. It's 4x weakness to Flying- type made me not raise it any more (its atk. stat is outrageous).

Because Breloom is part grass, part fighting. And Breloom has it's own advantages(such as over grass and dark).

Anyway, about Ralts. It took me forever to locate one.

By outrageous, I hope you mean great. Breloom's a better Fighting-type than a Grass-type, and he can sweep the floor with just about anything if you use Swords Dance on him with some Fighting move. It's hard to raise, but he's well worth it.

Emerald arrived today.

No one was here to get it. We have to get it in the morning because the post office is closed.

When I first got my Emerald, it took me weeks to get out of Littleroot.
I didn't know you could fly.
Or surf...
Or anything.
Or what Goudon or Kyogre was.
I will never forgive myself for putting Torchic in the computer and NEVER training it.
I trained every pokemon I caught/seen.
I was like Ash when he first started in pokemon-dom.

Lets just say I didn't know diddly-squat about that game.
