View Full Version : Signture Limits (with cut off)

I put in a new signature limit that will cut off your signature if you exceed a certain amount of pixels in height. For now, it's set at 220 pixels.
Keeping the signatures to a reasonable size makes loading the forum faster for everyone, and scrolling down pages easier/faster as well.

Ah, I was wondering what that was...
Quite a smart idea to do it with banners and text so people don't resort to incredibly wordy sigs either.

One thing i've noticed is this is making it difficult for people with T cards (I suppose because T cards are so big....)

Does this comply only with images or the whole signature?
And even with the new limit, there'll still be tons of offenders. o_O

Images and text are included in the 220 pixel limit. The new limit is another way to limit signatures, combined with the existing characters limit, it's a pretty decent system.

Well at least with this the forum does it by itself, rather than me having to resize again and again never being able to tell when mine is okay...

You're a crazy bastard, Ryan. =(
This shouldn't effect me at all! To compensate for this, I will most likely be taking mini-trainer card requests in my request thread.

I kinda disagree with it.. I know big sigs are annoying.. But, it just seems a bit too small now...
But if loading times is all people care about these days. Sure, keep small siggy..

I don't know who you're talking about...Some people care and the rest don't. =P
Personally, my sig does get cut, even after I shortened it, so I'm kinda pissed. You're just mini sig crazy in my eyes, Ryan. =( Wonder how long it is before he takes them away completly. I bet that would increase our loading times. =P

I'm not saying I am against this smaller sig thingie, but I think that our forums really were not that bad in terms of loading times before hand. Really, next to some other places I can name, ours is likely the one without most of the bells and whistles to began with, which is fine...
And with more and more percentage of people getting DSL\Cable internet all the time, loading really isn’t as much of an issue as it was before...
Heck, even when I did have dail up (which was for years up until a month ago) this site was speedy beyond belief.
There aren’t quite as many members on at one time anymore ether....
Big sigs or little ones this forum loads just fine IMHO...

For the sigs, I think around 170-180 Pixels should be plenty of room for a sig.
As for Avas, I think 90x90 is large enough for it.

Yea, that's mainly how I feel. I have a high speed internet connection, so loading stuff doesn't take long at all. I just don't like scrolling through long signatures and it takes up a lot of monitor screen space.

For god sake 100x100 is big enoth for an avatar and you can have smaller if you want as for sigs they are a resonable size.

Choose a color for that pixel, and whee, you've made your avatar!

I agree, rather than making the limit smaller if you want a smaller icon just make and use one ourself. I still don't know, why in an age were we have the fastest internet ever and settings which can make it so you never see sigs on forums from the get go, people have ti make such a big deal about it:confused:

Well it's not the loading part for me (for many others as well), it's the scrolling through it part. I have high speed internet, everything loads in an instant. But if you have a 800 pixel height image, it can load in a fraction of the second, but it's annoying to scroll through it. It kind of clutters the screen, when what I really want to see is the message in the post.
Signatures are suppose to be small, hence, called "signatures." They're meant to be just that, a simple signature at the end of each post. Not a picture gallery. A picture gallery is for a inside a thread or in a website, not a signature. Sure, it's nice that people have images to make things more lively, but to a certain extent. I'm sure most people would agree that having 10 big pictures of your artwork in your signature is not the best idea, not that it looks bad (and on my internet, it loads instantly), but it takes up the entire screen. That's the main problem.
To a certain extent, I guess that's my main point. Images in signatures are good, but so is ice cream, but you don't want to eat too much ice cream.

10 images is of course too much..I give scrolling does not bug me as much though...and the setting to block being able to see sigs is always there on many forums I go to. A forum without sigs and icons to me is just a like yahoo mailing list IMHO. Of course if one of the many reasons you are putting the limit in place to be able to add more forum layouts that is very understandable :)

Heh, thanks for telling me about that, I use a high resolution (1280x1024), so don't notice that. The maximum characters in the Location field is now set to 35. So that should fix it. If you can, just PM me the names of people that have long locations that you have noticed, so I can edit the existing ones.
If its your own sig you don't see it right...?
KT told me mine was cut off.
Everyone see's the cut off in posts, whether it's your own sig or not. The only place where your signature and everyone else's signature is not cut off is if you click on a person's profile (since you can see a person's signature in their profile).
I don't really care, because somehow, I can see the full length of everybody's sig. The only problem is, I can't tell what is cut off. Do you know what's up?
And RayquanzaFan: Eyesores? Your sig is HUGE.
Sorry to double post, but this needs attention:
I have a fairly small sig that I made, but it's a navi, so it has a lot of characters, and I would like you to take out the character limit. I don't see the point in it anyway, if we have a sig cutoff. Nobody writes that much...
If you can't, I can TRY to make it smaller...
