View Full Version : Thoughts on Ubers

What are your thoughts on Pokemon such as Kyogre and Groudon. For those of you who dont know, Ubers are the Pokemon banned from the Battle Frontier, Battle Tower etc:sad: . I go with the rule "play with your favourites", 2 of which are Mewtwo and Kyogre. I love those 2 Pokemon to death, but I feel guilty when I verse some poor kid with to Ubers that have over 430 Special Attack!

Ubers are certainly fun to play with, but they're rather limited in scope. With a few exceptions, are they not all primarily physical/special sweepers?

Yes, they are. However, I designed a party where Kyogre is the healer:eek: Ill let u lot figure it out...same Kyogre that I mentioned I had before too...the one with 430 Sp.Att.

It's an interesting concept, I suppose, but whenever a non-uber user "battles" someone with ubers, it tends to zealously motivate them for a win.
And then a win for you is that much less satisfying.

I know. I choose not to use them unless i'm bored or in a tournament with high stakes (e.g, winning Pokemon XD a day before the release date...and i did). I can run the same party without the Kyogre...the one where he's meant to be the healer that is. Or i'll use my Perish Song Party.

Ah, I see. I suppose so long as you can survive without ubers (and with withdrawal symptoms), nobody should "persecute" you for liking strong pokemon.

Sorry; but my opinion that only power-hungry noobs use Legends stands.
I refuse to use them in competitive play or in-game due to the fact that I just do not agree with them. I don't need a Pokemon with above-average stats to get me through battles, nor do I need them to make myself appear more "powerful" or just plain "cool".
They are unsatisfying and utterly unnecessary. If you have to rely on an Uber to consider yourself a good battler, then you're just pathetic. A true expert will use their own teams and strategies without the help of these Legendary Pokemon to prevail.

Heh, I forgot to say that using them for fun can be okay. Just as long as you don't abuse them to death.
Maybe I would use a Legendary if it got me a copy of Pokemon XD...

I overestimated anyways...there were a bunch of undertrained Mewtwo and Charizards...I tried to stay away from using my Kyogre or Mewtwo when I saw the parties...but when they KOd my Jolteon...I got angry. Jolteon is my fave Pokemon...so when they killed it...Kyogre came out..and yeah...with 430 sp.att...:silenced:
Kyogre is THE best Pokemon in the game. He can be a healer, and an attacker, he can learn thunder...with his ability thats absolutely nuts. Groudon can learn solarbeam, but his Special attack is hopelessly bad. In 2 on 2, the dreaded Skarmbliss combo is crazy. Blissey with Seismic Toss:eek:

I think most of the people who play the games don't have a clue as to what EV training is. Needless to say, a friend of mine who had never heard about it was thorougly surprised when my in-game, EV trained Milotic ripped her team to shreds.
Kyogre's always been a favorite of mine because it looks just like my favorite animal; the orca whale. I've heard it's good in competitive play, although Smogon says that Groudon is by far the best Pokemon out of them all because of its ability to shut down Water Pokemon and it having a phenomenal Attack stat.

Thats one more reason why Kyogre is the best Pokemon in the game, based on playability.

Your team tanks if you take Vap over Kyogre. With such a water team and missing the free rain dance, it's more along the lines of hello SE moves. Multiple weakness with one resistance (and a frail one at that) = bad.
In any case, I think ubers are overpowered and tilts the balance of gameplay, along with some of the overused standards. But I've really been out of pokemon for awhile now. I preferred GSC UU. It's nice watching Pidgeot try and almost succeed in doing useful things.

Your team can easily be taken out by a high level Grass or Electric Pokemon unless you equipped them with a large variety of attacks.
And if your American and you plan on entering them in Journey Across America I promise you that you'd be torn to shreds. When people enter that tournament they do NOT kid around. They want that grand prize of going to Tokyo with a 500$ gift certificate to the Pokemon Center!!! :)

sorry, I didnt mean to scream. I just wanted to see if anyone could actually get it. Basically, in 2 on 2, everyone can heal and attack because if their abilities.
To heal itself using the water/electric attacks. N-L, you're forgetting that it only heals 25% max, and that % of Hit Points are EASILY taken down by one attack.

I think we should all keep in mind that this is an in-game team and not competitive battling. It's not like Neo L here is going to be attacked by an all-Electric team somewhere. I think it's good that you're experimenting with a team such as this, although it does have flaws. Then again, most mono teams will always have one glaring weakness unless you can cover it well.

Actually, I played this team at a local tourney, and I lost 1 game out of 8, and ended up winning the finals. Its completely anti Uber. Lapras doesnt let Ubers live, and isnt killed unless criticled ot OHKOed...even then, 50% of the time, Focus Band stops that.

Sorry, I have to ask this. What's EV? I've always played the pokémon games but after coming to these forums, I've never seen the games become so strategically genius. I've actually tried some things out on my games and it's made the game a whole lot better for me. Also, I've become a much better trainer in a short amount of time.
Thanks everyone on these forums!!
Back to the topic...
I like Ubers, but I refrain from using them on my games, unless it's for fun. In my old Red version I have Mewtwo & Articuno (I love Articuno to death). I've always loved playing with Mewtwo just because he is one of my favorite pokémon. Before the two I used to have Hypno and Fearow. I think they're just as good (I defintely believe Hypno rules over Kadabra/Alakazam, or maybe I'm just sick of them).
I like to train pokémon that aren't Ubers to their peak. Some I'd like to prove that they actually can be good and powerful with the right moves. I'm doing this with my Lickitung on Gold and I'd like to do this with Luvdisc and Nosepass once I catch them on Sapphire (I just started over today). If I bump into Kyogre again I won't want to use him... I mean he's so cool but I dunno. I'll stick with Luvdisc for now. I like weird poké's :hungry: Of course this is also with HM's. I never feel right switching the pokémon I'd definitely have in my party with some other pokémon only to use an HM for a split second. Plus, for me, it's training time taken away from leveling up the pokémon I put away.
In closing... Ubers are mucho fun to play with, but it's more fun attempting to make a certain pokémon to be just as strong or if possible stronger than an Uber(s). It also feels much more better because I feel a sense of incredible achievement when the pokémon has become very good ^_^!

I see all Legendary Pokemon as ubers, since most of their stats are generally higher than that of a Pokemon of the same type.
I prefer to use them as a tool to easily level up my weaker Pokemon. I only captured Mewtwo, Lugia, Kyogre, and Rayquaza for completetion purposes and to raise Pokemon.

Your stupidity is beyond the comprehension of the common being and thus, your departure from this forum, hopefully voluntarily, would be highly beneficial to the slightly more intelligent community here. Simply put, we cannot bear someone of your intelligence here, and it is clear that many stand with me.
And yes, I'm quite boastful of my capabilities at strategising. At least I have the skills to show it, you know, unlike a certain mentally-challenged folk here that lack the fairly common sense to back out when he's defeated.
Also, just for your information, Netbattle completely emulates the competitive battling part of the Pokemon games. That includes formulas for damages and such and also, data of Pokemon. You're again boasting your stupidity by doubting Netbattle's accuracy.
Let you depart and never return, you are not welcome.

I'm leaning towards something like...
JOLTEON USED THUNDERBOLT!
ZAPDOS USED THUNDERBOLT! WATER POKEMON FAINTED!

along those lines in terms of 2V2 battling with you have a Jolteon and some water types out.

Well, I just got into this conversation and whew!! What he said was a KO! Listen buddy. Every pokemon has a potential; from Abra to Zubat. It all depends on strategies, stats, and your personal experience as a trainer yourself. My thoughts are that ubers suck, and are only for lazy trainers who do not bother training their own non-uber pokemon to their full potential. People think that whatever move you give to an uber will make them the best; like a Kyogre with Dive, Surf, Waterfall, and Water Pulse, etc. Whenever I see an uber I frown upon their trainers. Try raising other pokemon than ubers to their full potential; because that is why they call you a trainer. Well, that are my thoughts on ubers. You may have different thoughts, but I really don't give a freaking care. Ciao.

I don't believe in the word usage of "Ubers". A pokemon is a pokemon, nothing more, nothing less. My party has ONE "Uber" (take a wild guess who  ), and it's not like it's that hard beat. I think "Ubers" have superb weaknesses, like when Kyogre makes it rain, he's totaly defensless to Thunder. And Groudon only makes it worse for him against plant-type pokemon with Solar Beam. Rayquaza is just bad against ice. My party never had a single problem with "Ubers".

Well when you have Ubers they tend to have higher stats. If you get them with all the right DV's then they are really good. If I was to enter a big tournament I would probably use a few ubers because I nearly lost my last one due to ubers. Just because Ubers are strong they dont have to sweep, people can use their high stats for other stuff like Kyogre as a healer. But they do have their weaknesses. Some of them have high weaknesses even the non-ubers that are strong. For example Dragonite, Mence and Rayquaza totally suck against Ice. T-tar sucks against fighting. Deoxys f, e and normal suck against ninjask. I OHKO'd a guys fully speed EV trained Deoxys F in the final of a tounament with my jask's silver wind. Ho-oh sucks against rock. So yeah Ubers are awesomely powerful but still can be beaten by good opponents (like me... lol). But yeah if there are big prizes i dont mind if you uber away. I will.

That's right.Ubers have big time weaknesses. While battling my friend's Rayquaza, all it took was one Ice Beam to finish it.My friend's expression was .That was priceless.
