View Full Version : bandwith
With my little knowledge of html, hosting and domains I am quite sure bandwith is related to visitors. if ya get too many visitors, the site shuts down for a while. Pe2k has that "problem" a lot. My suggestion is: purchase something ( I dunno how this works) so that you have greater bandwith. I could be totally off on this but..

Not necessarily just members, but posts from members, member information, downloads from the forums (if there are any) also contribute to the bandwidth.
I'd suggest allying with a major online search engine. All Mr. PE2K would have to do is advertise, and BAM...they help us out with bandwidth.
I really wouldn't know but I think that's a great idea.

I'm not into advertising.....but, uh, how about members start using other uploading sites instead of a direct link off PEK2? That's a problem right there.
another good idea. I can imagine people reading this and trhinking "well, where should I upload it then? there was a thread about this before and in that thread I found one to my liking: www.walagata.com . don't worry, it's completely free.

You people don't seem to notice something. Ryan's .com site is not hosting the Board. That's the reason why it's still here when the site goes down. TheRealOne is hosting the Board. Could you imagine how often it would be down if it was in the PE2K.com directory like the phpbb board was?
The Board doesn't have the Bandwith problem. The .com site does. He needs to figure out how to get more Bandwith for the .com site, not this Board.
Edit: I could be wrong, maybe.

Actually, finding a host to host my site, that has been the problem. The reason it has been down the past, for weeks at a time, is because the site had no host, and it's not because of bandwidth running out. Of course, finding a host supplying me with enough bandwidth is one problem, but if I had a host (which I have), bandwidth is generally not a problem. But usually when I do find one, it's something I will be staying on for a while unless the person decides to quit or something.
Now, about the current state of the website. There's plenty of space, and plenty of bandwidth. The "exceeded bandwidth" thing is an error, I'm suppose to have to more bandwidth than that, and it has been fixed by my host. My host just moved to a new server (that means I move too), so there's a few minor problems like that.
Am I rich? Not exactly. And I'm not too excited about purchases online either (paranoid about that kind of stuff). So if there's someone out there that wants to host my site (if and when I need it), contact me, it's always good to have a backup plan to turn to if my current host fails. But the current host I am on has been working fine, I have the bandwidth I need, we're just running into some minor problems with the new server, I don't expect it to be an ongoing problem.

That's not really a problem. I have stats for the website, and direct linking isn't causing a major bandwidth issue. Like I said, bandwidth is not an issue, I have enough, and the bandwidth exceeded thing has just been an error.
