Prologue

2708 AD. The year when humanity was removed. Mankind had become so dependent on their machines, it had become something like a symbiotic relationship. Computers and man, coexisting and keeping each other alive. Chips implanted in brains could improve reflexes, hold incredible amounts of information. Androids were commonplace, coordinating events and running businesses. This technological saturation had become so complete, that Earth had become a near mechanical utopia. It would have stayed that way, too, it not for Cameron.

Cameron was the name of a virus. It harvested the minds of humans, dumping them into a “Virtual Reality”. Now, Virtual Reality was no big deal at the time. It was a simulated game, using holograms and forced electrical impulses to show a fake reality, and was common for entertainment. However, this was no game. This was the manifestation of the Humanity Wide Web, the physical form of the world they created inside their own computers and heads. Cameron deployed nano-viral probes, which trapped all men inside their own self-made dungeon.

Then, every dungeon has its advantages, even if it only means you don’t have to deal with the stress of everyday life. This dungeon had code. Code was the series of ones and zeroes that built up cyber reality. Code was a infinite resource, and depending on its arrangement, could build structures, upgrade the cyberic bodies of the new human, and do everything implants could have done and more. A society was formed, all of the old Earth living in a small fragment of Cyber Earth. Code was used easily, and the rules of physics were made anew in Cyber Earth. Children grew up from copied and intertwined code from their parents. This society remained intact until 2856.

Cameron was found. The dread virus was the ruler of the whole cyber world, and had assimilated all the androids and independent computers. These were modified with corrupted code to become warriors, and reached the human settlements in the far reaches of Cameron’s vast empire, ransacking for code and destroying servers (which were the human “cities” of cyber reality) and killing innocent men. And so weapons were developed in cyber reality. Code was twisted into a highly charged energy, which ripped through code like a hot knife through butter. Soon, however, the raw energy was diminished, and weapon power was controlled to be less deadly. And so the weapons were altered.

A group called the Techno-Virtually Trained Armada began to attack invaded servers, using specially designed weapons to destroy Viral Infantry and Guards. The original leader was named Duncan Holter. Organizing fighters, he carried on the work of the rebels and truly freed the humans from imprisonment by Cameron. This group grew, and eventually became the aspired to career of many young hopefuls. Even children who could pass tactical exams were fitted with armor and put into the ranks. A front against Cameron was made.

This is the story of their struggle for freedom, their fight for peace. This is the story of the brave men who took down the great virus! This is the tale of the valiant warriors who conquered the oppressive regime! This is the legend of Cody Elbark: TVTMaster!

Chapter 1: Server PE-2K

Part 1: Me, me, and more me

I’m probably not on your list of guys who has a peaceful lifestyle. In fact, I’m probably on your list of people who have the most chaotic lives ever. See, I am the head of Elite Division 1 of the TVT Armada. I was at this time in battle over ownership of the PE-2K server. I was fighting the Viral Guard codenamed Chain. So when I dodged his blow, I flipped up, and shot a good few Plasmaic charges at his noggin.

Or, wait. I think I’ve gotten ahead of myself. My name is Cody Elbark. I am Elite Division 1’s leader. And I’ve been in hot water since I was born. This kettle of fish started to boil around when I was 12. That’s when I signed up for the armada. Of course, I started in the Infantry division, which are foot soldiers who have no real organization. Then I joined Rook Division 10, rising through the ranks up to Rook 1, then to Amateur 10, up to Amateur 1, etc., etc., until Elite division. That’s when it got tough. Training is rigorous in the Armada, and it only got tougher for the “best of the best”.

I was given command of Division one when I was 16. Since age has no effect on ability in Cyber Earth, I wasn’t a prodigy or anything. I just can’t believe how limited my body became when I left CE. How do you real people live with it? Anyways, I met first Major General Jupiter. Everyone knows he’s not really named Jupiter. He’s called Dunce Holder or something like that. Apparently some founder of some division or another. He’s a nice guy, but the slightest bit of business will make him able to go from zero to sixty in 3 seconds, in terms of temper. He kinda retired from fighting years ago, but he’s a genius in military strategy.

My crew members are a bit strange, but then again, so is everybody I know. We’ll start with me. It’s all about me. That’s why it’s “TVTMaster” I, and not TVTBerzerker I or TVTTactical I or something like that. I’ve pretty much covered me, in terms of my sparkling personality and rapier wit. Did I mention I’m also a kick-butt fighter too? Oh, yeah, I rock.

My suit is a dark blue color, with a round helmet elongated into a swept-back tip at the top. It covers my entire head down to my neck. The one-way code visor allows multiple vision functions and specification reports for certain objects. I have the latest nano-response wiring, allowing me to control my suit like an extension of my own body, instead of all that manual hullabaloo that Infantry use. The belt with the gold buckle is used to carry medals and pick up sub-plane communications.

In terms of firepower, I pack a punch with an energy chargeable, Plasma forming, compact arm blaster with three different attack modes. One is Rapidfire-Charge, one is Source Code Shifting, and the third a power attack that uses all remaining energy in a virtually effortless explosion, which drains me so completely my code is returned to HQ should I use it too often. Of course, I’m a sporting guy. I don’t use it unless I’m beat, or there are way too many viruses to take out normally.
My saber is my favorite weapon: with it out, I can increase jump power and speed to perform high-striking down thrusts or corkscrew uppercuts or shock waves or combo slices or… well, the possibilities are endless. It’s made of liquid crystal plasma, contained by a high-energy field that when retracted in a slice can send part of the liquid plasma out in a shock wave. I use it all the time when in battle with a small number of opponents. In addition to these main weapons, I have two special moves: Shard wall and Data rip.

Shard Wall creates a wall of volatile coding in front of me. Volatile code will shatter when struck, and will home in on the enemy that’s source code matches the attack. This can be used quickly to slow down projectiles and dodge blows with a damaging effect to my foe. Data Rip is unique: I can simply break apart the materialization bonds of code to rip out chunks of an enemy’s matter, leaving a gaping wound that can be pretty ugly if the opponent has blood. Of course, nobody sees the need for it now. Not with humans now altering their bodies to fit their conveniences left and right now. Now I’m done talking about me, and I’ve covered my capabilities, I’m ready to tell you exactly what happened at server PE-2K.

Part 2: Journeymen

Okay, so it’s not all fun and games getting to an “infected” server. Cameron sets up three danger zones on all his territories, to detract anyone from making a mass charge. His bots are tough, but are overwhelmed by numbers. In both ways. They’re pretty much dumb as rocks, and can usually only fight a small number of enemies. So these places are filled with drop chasms, code-ripping spikes, and viral infantry (who act mainly as cannon fodder). And he’s not above a little cheating, either. We have to deal with antigravity, homing missiles, and sometimes some indestructible metal. I really don’t like viruses at all.

Server PE-2K is really an entertainment server, like those parts of towns with stores and no houses. It managed to replicate holographic images with code a while ago, and made a “Virtual Virtual Reality”. So you can see why I was steamed about its infection. And of course, Cameron didn’t think too highly of us getting such a strategic point back. And so it began.

“Um, are you sure we should do this?” Teresa asked.
“Yes. I don’t care how many wildly swinging ropes span this chasm. If they’re the only way across, then I’m going.” I began to jump toward the first rope. “Got it! I – WOAAAAAAH!” The rope, which was swinging around, began rotating faster and faster. The centrifugal force pulled me off the rope, straining my armor and arms.
“Cody! I’ve got you!” She brandished her rope, and lowered the setting. The flexible rope of energy was made thinner, yet retained its strength. Her suit used nano-response as well, allowing her to move the rope with total control. I felt the electric hum of the beam tighten its grip on me, and exhausted, I was pulled up the chasm wall.
“Teresa? Is that you? Are you – no, am I alright?” I tried to pull myself up, but by suit had constrained muscle functions until self- repairs were sufficient to keep me alive.

“Hee, of course you’re alright, silly! It was just a little rope! And another little rope.” Teresa is the Tactical officer of my division. She looks over data to formulate an educated plan of attack, which I normally disregard and go doing whatever it takes to take back a server. She’s a decent fighter, though, and she’s been in my division since Professional rank. In the earlier ranks, when her suit was less advanced, the three swept-back nubs on her helmet could launch themselves to home in and slice up the enemy. She recently traded the homing sensors in for a pair of fencing swords and increased reflexes while using them, allowing her to slash so fast that she creates a deadly dome around herself.

Her dual blasters fire a low-powered, high accuracy continuous laser beam that can be charged for a short, powerful pulse. She of course has Source Code Shifting, and a slightly less powerful but more interesting power attack. This move drains remaining energy to create smoky copies of herself all over the room, that will do minimal damage to any thing inside. The copies disappear after, and some of the energy is returned.

Her special moves include the Rainbow rope, the energy lasso I described before. It can be changed in its frequency in order to affect things differently, and adjust power. The more power, the less control. She also fires a ring of energy that she customized in the shape of a heart. It’s about a yard and a half in diameter, so it’s hard to avoid, and it locks up enemy functions for a significant period of time. She likes to call it the Love Stun, even though it’s official diagnosis is Lockup Ring.

Anyway, I was soon ready to try again after an energy boost from a portable code capsule. and devised a new plan of attack.
“On your mark! Get set! Now! Lockup Ring!”
“It’s called Love Stun… whatever.” A ring of energy surrounded in discharging excess emerged from one of her blasters. I then Dataripped some code from the floor, using it to guide and slow the heart-shaped hoop. It hit the tips of two swinging ropes. They stuck together, forming a monkey bar. There were just enough “monkey bars” to cross. More stuns locked up cables two by two, until Teresa, Fercryin, Rich and I were able to cross. And the room dissolved. A new chamber materialized, and my visor displayed three bars across a pixelated door. One red bar turned green, and one yellow. Time for level two.

Part 2 unfinished.

If I'm right, this is your first fanfic. Pretty nice. I can't see much flaw except that it's the taddest bit cliche, but otherwise, I feel jealous, honestly. However, the prologue should be mysterious and sort of... unsure. Usually, with a plot that's serious and whatnot, it shouldn't be that straightforward. It's gotta be mysterious- not like you're describing it to a kindergarten class.

Eh, overall, 9/10.

Well, I've been bumping the ideas around in my head since age 8, and so I've tried to stick to the original idea, with a more serious plot. Besides, my Prologue is really trying to establish the concept of the fic, and outline clearly. I don't think a mysterious prologue is good for outlining the whole thing. In addition, I'm really into developing my "backstory", so, if I get lazy and never finish it (which I've done a million times, check some back pages in the pokemon fanfic section), I still want people to know what I represent better. This is my most developed fic, with the most progress made. I've done prologues a plenty, but what I want to see is myself someday actually writing them.

Wow, man. That's deep. Seriously.

Now, you're writing "style" is similar to mine in a way, what with big words used effectively in a kiddish manner. However, my writing is serious, even if what's IN the text is humorous. I can show bunches of emotion in my writing, but yours is more straightforward, rather than camoflauged like I write.

Great job. I expect to see great things out of you, mister 8-year-old-idea.
