Water type... How about Milotic? If you have the patience to find a Feebas.

Trade with a pokemon ruby/sapphire game to get Mudkip. Trade with Fire Red/Leaf Green to get Squirtle.
Or Catch Staryu then train it then buy a water stone from FR/LG. Evolve it into Starmie. If you have patience for Feebas go for Milotic. But I reccomend Swampert, Blastoise, Starmie or Milotic.

Yeah, I could trade for them, but for my first time beating the game I always like doing it with pokemon that I catch and train, no traded, so *sigh* I'll try for Feebas, wish me luck!
But what about my last spot?

Not sure, maybe I'll just go with 5 pokemon for now. Any suggestions of any type of pokemon?

Ok, Flygon or Salamence? You can still get Bagon in Emerald, right?

Flygon is good with Adanamant nature, don't tech it any SP.ATK moves.

Yes, good idea,.
Feratagatr@Leftovers, Nature: Adanamant
- Aerial Ace
- Brick Break/Focus Punch
- Earthquake
- Substitute
Remember Envoy of Chaos, Feratagatr doesn't have good SP.ATK.
How about Brick Break from the choice, and instead of sub, give it Swords Dance!

Gyarados only fits as a physical sweeper, and you can't get Lapras without trading, unfortunately.

I would say a Modest nature is good for Lapras, mine usually knows maybe one physical attack. So I would say Modest or maybe another nature that raises sp. attack.
