My friend has this game and says it's good. I'll just wait for him to give it to me rather than put my father in a further depression of me spending my money on video games. ;-P

Wow, so many people haven't played this yet huh. The game's pretty awesome. :)
The only major complaint I have with the game is its insanity in "Item Invention". It's just...too...stupid... The style and how they pulled it off was uninspired really. That's pretty much my only complaint. Backtracking is done a lot, too. :-/
Anyway, I just got the secret "Versus Mode". :D

I like that idea... especially with the Uber mind.

It's not as exciting as it sounds. Though you can customize weapons this way, that's pretty much all you can do with it that's worthwhile anyway. And it costs wayyyyy too much. -.-
I just noticed that I missed the second part of this one sidequest that opens up the best shop in the game (which unlocks the best engineer in the game). :(

Yeah, I was making a joke. I wouldn't think that it would that cheap, from both perspectives.
Still, is it like customizing weapon in FE: PoR?
Oh, do quality Engineers reduce the expense of customization? ... or would that be a SPOILER?

Well IC is the only way you can actually make ultimate weapons (you get them in sucky form) good. Otherwise, the only thing good about it is that it gives you access to powerhouse weapons that you can't possibly get in the late-game. IC is only useful in the late game anyway, when you have fol coming out of your ears.
And IC, I don't think it's like PoR (I haven't played it yet). Basically, you can either invent an item using "original creation", which costs only fol, or upgrade a specific item (which costs fol and "ingredients"). You can also merge certain items with parameters to your weapons, but each time you do it, it uses up a rather rare synthesis material. I'm at the end of the game, and I've only seen maybe 18 or so of those, and I'm a compulsive map completer. XD
The difference between most games and SO is that IC is practically manditory. I'm not sure how people can deal with BOSS CHARACTERS as REGULAR MONSTERS by the beginning of disc 2. That's right. You fight a boss monster in one area, and the next area, that boss monster comes in a pair and is a regular monster. Your characters proceed to get owned if you had a difficult time with just one of them.
I didn't have a problem with it, since I got the warning ahead of time and made sure I made an uber weapon first, but it was a fol-drainer. And the uber weapon also had like 4000+ attack (aka higher than everything else you can get in the game), so the aforementioned boss took maybe 10 hits or so before dying. There. The game's not hard again. Then you make more fol and create more uber weapons until you're too tired to bother with it. In the end, I made 3 uber weapons for my 3 characters, and the last one was just a mish-mash of random items I decided was good enough to put into the weapon. However, the last one also costed me more synthesis materials than the former two since I refined the ore for the weapon a LOT (like 6 times each) so that I wouldn't was synthesis materials...and I went ahead and blew like 5 of them on the last uber weapon. XD
Quality engineers/cooks/crafters/etc. have no effect on the cost of customization unless they have a cost reduction ability. Some have a -cost, +time modifier, where the more time it takes, the more expensive it gets. Overall, IC sucks. I don't want to have anything to do with it. XD
