View Full Version : Help with Watson? >_<

Ah! I feel like a total n00b, because I can't beat him!

I just got Emerald, and the last Pokemon game I played was Gold back when it came out in 2000 (or was it '99??). Anyway, I just thought it would be fun to try somthing new, since I used to be one of those kids who went to the Pokemon Trading Card League with all teh other geek-ums.

I have a level 27 Grovyle, level 24 Mightyena, lvl 24 Gyarados, lvl 22 Gloom, 21 Minun (or alternatively Electrike), and lvl 18 Makuhita. I can beat Watson's Electrike and Voltorb pretty easy (using Gyarados actually), but when it comes to his Manectric I can't beat it! I can't even get to his Magneton!! I thought that Grovyle would blow the Manectric out of the water easy because of the level difference, but with Shock Wave it always knocks him out. And none of the others even stand a chance against it.

So, does anyone have a strategy or words of advice I could use? It would realllly help!!! TY.

If you evolve your mahukita would be able to beat or use a geodude I trained one till he learned magnitude it was around level 14 or 15.

Alright, I guess I'll just have to train it more. I tried using it before, but it would always get knocked out within two hits.

just catch a geodude... it will be piece of cake

Give Makuhita something like three or four levels, that should give it enough strength to attack Manectric. Also, I suggest using Arm Thrust, Vital Throw is only helpful if you know you won't be knocked out in one hit..

Geodude is the best way, with little difficulty.

Just curious what inspired your name?

Just train your pokemon until at least 2 of them are between level 25-32. It's simple, but boring.

If you aren't so worried about good moves at an early level, teach one of your pokes rock smash and train until the level is higher than wattsons.

If you had started with a Torchic, or had a Fire Pokemon it would be a simple as Pie. Mmmm....

Anyway, if you don't have a fire Pokemon, Geodude would be your best choice.

im having this same problem but in ruby... i cant seem to beat wattson. (i feel so pathetic.. ive never had any trouble before)

i know that all you people have suggested to get geodude but i really hate training pokemon that im not actually going to use later on. It seems like a waste.

my main pokemon against him is aron, its moves are:

-mud slap
-headbutt
-take down
-metal claw

i also have a sceptile but it isnt much use against a steel pokemon.

my main problem is his magneton.. the only move it uses is shock wave.. 2 shockwaves and i faint.. my aron doesnt have the speed to outrun it. I tried giving it a quick claw but it hardly worked. If i could hit it a few times with mud slap it should faint... but i can never hit it because i have to heal every turn from his shock wave.

ill just train aron up to about 28-30 then just keep trying until one day he might not use shock wave:rolleyes:

With Combusken,Double Kick away to victory.Otherwise,Gyarados is MORE than strong enough to take it out.Otherwise, attack him madly without bothering about the damage.

Gyarados wouldn't work, one shock wave and it would be dead. Combusken is the easiest way to beat the game at the start, once it learns double kick it easily beats roxanne and wattson (maybe a little help from fire as well) and if you teach it peck beofre it evolves it easily beats brawly. Treeko is the hardest to start with.

I had trouble with Watson at first too - I just battled wild Pokemon like crazy and got all my Pokemon to level 35 before taking him on again. It took forever and was really boring, but it worked really well. I even beat him with my Marill because she knew Double-Edge and Bubblebeam. Water seems to do pretty good damage against Magneton.
