View Full Version : A Painful Revelation

Okay, here’s a quick little experience from Hell I just had to deal with before I go back to bed. This is for my ranting and your utter amusement. I’m sure the sadistic side of you will enjoy hearing this one… XD

Ready…?

I’ve waited a long, long time for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon to come out. I’ve seen quick flickers of screenshots before, but after going to the Party of the Decade and really getting the inside scoop of this game, I wanted it. Badly. However, this was way back on August 8th, and I was harassed with seeing a release date of September 18, which… as many of us have painfully found out… really wasn’t the date most retailers got the game in. We all… suffered for another 24 hours thanks to that, some obviously more. Thank you… ever so much… the person/people who were responsible for that. I will say I love you and then I will say I’m being very sarcastic.

Second, this was a fantastic opportunity to play a game where I’m actually playing as Pikachu. Plus, it was an adventure game, not the badge collecting nonsense I’ve gotten a little tired of. This was the game I was dreaming for, a totally fresh new experience unlike any Pokémon game I’ve played before. I mean, this was awesome, I was getting a little tired of always playing games about some random trainer always doing almost the same things throughout the journey.

And so I waited. Days passed by, and for some strange reason, almost every single day, thoughts about this game came up. And… I even started a fan fiction based on the game to somehow quench the thirst I had for this game. It royally failed, but it was good to help pass the days down.

Waiting over a month is painful. Wishing I could have changed my shipping method as I watch the rest of you now have the game is painful. Watching a YouToob video Orange Flaaffy made of her getting the game in the mail while I’m still waiting is painful. Seeing endless screenshots and falling further into the vortex of wanting this game badly is also painful.

But there is nothing, nothing… more miserable and endlessly relentlessly painful than actually FREAKING DREAMING YOU HAVE THE GAME WHEN REALLY YOU DON’T. I can endure waiting. I can endure watching other people around me get the game before I do, and talk about it ever so happily. But this was a flat-out kick to the balls.

But it was actually really kind of weird, I felt like I was playing someone else’s game that had already been started. My team was totally stuffed, I had a Pikachu as leader, Charmander as the buddy, and a few other Pokémon but here’s the really weird part. Pikachu was level 1, the Charmander was level 20, a Chikorita at level 40 or something, I had some Cyndaquil from god-knows-where at level 50, and a freaking Weedle at level 99 (Of all Pokémon to be suddenly randomly blessed with at that level). Meanwhile, the Weedle was starving and I kept frantically running through the inventory menus to see if there was anything I could do about it. But oh my god, I went through misery and a half trying to navigate through them, and ultimately couldn’t find anything. Weirdly enough, I came across one weird thing in the menu that showed that some of the food I actually did have had to be cooked by individual Pokémon, which… I know for a fact isn’t in the real game either. Of course, nothing was ready. I love it.

And yes, for some sadistic reason, my “game” wasn’t started in some random grassy field like I know the game starts you off in, I was in some damned lava-infested cave totally freaking lost without a clue as to what I was doing (which lead me to believe my game really did start my team off in Hell). And meanwhile… the really weird music and sound… seemed to be playing in surround all around my entire room (However, that wasn’t the first thing that lead me to think “Oh, I must be dreaming…”). And then… and then the whole freaking thing ended. There were other elements that were obvious to leading me to believe I was actually playing Pokémon Mystery Dungeon but I’ve forgotten them. I know that one of them was with each Pokémon had some really weird special ability of their own and another was the Kecleon brothers actually charge you a lower price the first time you buy from the store, but then things return to normal prices. I know that they were probably wrong and don't actually happen in the actual game though. It was all just... so freaking weird. A lot of it was right... but then... so much of it was totally freaking wrong.

It ended though. But the bloody, worst, freaking part of it was actually waking up and realizing “Well oh crap, you don’t really have the game now, do you?”

Saying that was sad and painful is an understatement, and for the most part, I can’t believe it happened in the first place. I’ve had wierd dreams about video games before, but never about one I don’t actually have… yet. But… chances are when I have the actual game and have been playing it for a while, I’m going to look back at this thread and laugh my ass off.

I had to write that down, and yes, obviously a lot of it was exaggerated for humorous intentions. But still, I just can't believe I actually had that happen only a few minutes ago... XD

Enjoy the game.

Neo, I can understand your pain. Your posts, have been showing your desire for the game for days on end. Just recently, I, too, have joined the crowd rush for being excited for the game (ordering it today from play-asia, so I don't have to wait for it in Australia on the 28th.) To have that kick you in the balls, is just gut-wrenching. That IS a bloody kick to the balls.

I hope you get the game soon, buddy.

Aaaaaw poor Neo *hugs*! I'm sorry if I made you feel bad...my random videos are only a mix of me getting excited by the game and the fact that my cam can make videos (which I had no clue it could before :/ )
And how can your fic be a flop? I don't see it as one at all...

Lol, I know this must look pretty funny... and maybe a little pathetic. And your video was fine, but... gah, it was hard to watch. Meh, I could have easily parted with $9 just to have this a little earlier, but I lost the order number before the game was shipped. Only now they've sent it to me... after it was already shipped. XD

And I didn't say the fic was a flop, but it didn't help in trying to quench the thirst to have this game.

And yay, I scratched up the side of the car this morning trying to pull it out of the driveway, so I have to take care of that as soon as I get home. Watch... just watch, the day I have to get distracted with something like this is the day it's going to come. I just feel it...

You are not alone. I have drempt of owning this game. In fact, I begged my dad to go to Wal-mart to play the demo. We went, but because he needed something there. I RAN to the electronics section, to get to the demo.

Me:*reading GBA screen, skimming through it* I feel a pleasant blahblahblah, you're finally awake!*looks up from screen* NOW!!! Now, I shall finally see something that wasn't on the personality quiz!

GBA screen:*Pikachu begins to look around*

My dad: *dragging me(almost literally) Comenow, weneedtogo!!!!

Me: Rotten luck!! I KNEW IT! I WAS SET UP!

Neo, that's pretty sad all right. look, here's my dilemma, to maybe make oyu feel better.

I was on my way to but PMD (yes, I was inside the store when this happend), when I dropped my wallet. I bent down to pick it up, and (I am NOT making this up) somebody knocked me down, grabbed the wallet and ran. I yelled after him, but no luck, nobody cared enough to try to stop him. Instead, they got out of his way. So I have no money and can't buy it. for me and  for you. :(

That is SAD. Gosh doesn't anyone see that they are stealing?! Doesn't anyone KNOW that that money isn't theirs? Don't they have a consious(sorry, I can't spell it) thingy! That's why I always return stuff to folks, even if it IS money. An d they were totally careless.

I'm sorry, but when you use too much sarcasm online, most of all in a forum, your posts come across as being that of a troll\flamer. It is far better to just say what you mean as people online cannot hear your tone of voice :P.

OFF TOPIC:Okay, then. Everytime I use sarcasm, I will end it with A)*sarcasm*, B)[/sarcasm], C) "And don't worry, I'm being sarcastic", or D), none of the above, because it is so OBVIOUS I'm sarcastic. BTW, I act like this all the time, and not in a evil trolly thingy way, in an "ONG!" kinda way.

I've had that same thing happen, only with Kingdom Hearts 2. And I didn't dream about playing it, I dreamt about buying it. Ah, well. I still don't have it. >< And, at least you'll be getting Mystery Dungeon sometime in September. I won't be getting mine until at least November, since I won't be getting any money until then. Somehow, I hope I make my birthday money stretch over the numerous games I want (Emerald, Mystery Dungeon, KH2) and still have money left over to buy some books or manga...

Well, thanks. I actually checked the mail yesterday, and it wasn't by the front door at first... but it did come by later.

And Lan... you beat it already? Geez. But, I take my time with these kinds of things. And even so, I've heard there's plenty you can do even after you beat the game.

Of course you could always restart and try going through the entire game again with different Pokemon.

And yes... I realized the game... isn't quite like the experience I had in my dream. The one I had in my dream was like... the mutilated and psychotic version of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon... XP

Meh, I think it's quite decent. First time, it may seem a little dry, but it really does grow on you. I honestly find escort missions to be quite fun, since you need to keep the client alive while heading through the dungeon. And usually they're at level 1 and don't have a lot of HP, so it puts a whole new spin on it. Trust me, that's something you haven't done with Pokemon before. Not to mention a lot more tactics are involved.

To me, it's a fun and fresh Pokemon experience. It's nice not to have to think about badges or running around to find where HM Cut or HM Surf is this time. Not to mention, I like the sprites as well, as well as the new gameplay, the tactics involved, and the storyline is completely new and pretty interesting. Also, most of the music is pretty good. Mt. Steel's music gets a little repetitive, but that's the only one. The Great Canyon's music is actually awesome in my opinion.

Sorry, but I strongly disagree with you. I love this game, a lot. Considering how fast and how furious these games sold, I hope it encourages Nintendo that players would definitely love playing as Pokemon as well, and not just trainers all the time. My only negative point is that I wish there were more towns in the game, kind of like the setup that Golden Sun has. That's not a big deal though.

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl... ah, they can wait.

I was glad I got it when I did, otherwise I would have smashed a lot of glass. But November? Geez...

I got this game last Thursday and I've been playing nothing but. It's awesome.
