Camp Jr. Poke

It is true that at age 10 a child starts his or her Pokemon journey but what is never covered in most stories and tales of victory is the life before becoming a hero. Where do kids discover their favorite Pokemon and how do they know how to react to starting life away from home?

The answer is Camp Jr.Poke, a camp for children 5-10 years old, introduces youngsters to the life of training. They are given a PokeEgg on their first day of camp and expected to care for it and, once it hatches, the Pokemon inside.
The camp is new but in the future the children will ethier take their Pokemon home or leave them at camp and get them back the next time they visit.

The camp teaches children to pitch a tent, how to pick a safe place for sleeping at night, basic camp fire rules and more.
Campers are also taught the school lessons they might be missing from school while visiting.

Campers are also encouraged to form groups together, also called 'travel buddies'. Buddies help eachother out and keep eachother safe from danger.
The camp is located in a huge forest that is loaded with Pokemon posing as wild Pokemon. This tame Pokemon act like their wild relatives, only stop attacking or such when the child becomes for too frightened.

The first night of camp is the only one spent in a group. After that night the campers go out alone to train their Pokemon for a week, sometimes 2, with beepers on them so everyone knows where they are.
On the last 2 days of camp a tornement is held and everyone puts there Pokemon together in a fight to decide who is the top camper.

Samantha was sitting in the car, ready to go to her first camp, and get her first Pokemon. She was nervous, seeing as she didn't know anyone there, but it didn't bother her too much, she would most likely make friends easially and quickly. She was more excited than anything. She had never really battled before, her parents had never been trainers, and so she hadn't really gotton to know Pokemon all that well. This was her chance to learn everything there was to learn, or some of it anyways.

"Are we there yet?" Samantha asked anxiousaly.

"Not yet," said her mother, "but almost."

I sighed, and started playing my Gameboy SP again, moving the virtual Kirby around the screen. I couldn't really concentrate on the game though, my thoughts were wandering all over the place. What would it be like there? Would the food taste bad, like most camp food did? Would I get homesick? There were so many questions I had, and I couldn't wait to get most of them answered. Some, like the taste of camp food, I could live without knowing.

I looked out the window, and saw nothing but lush green fields, and forests. We definatly wern't in my hometown of Celedon anymore. I didn't mind though, there were too many people at my hometown. If you wern't careful, you could get lost in no time at all.

"Ok honey, here we are," my dad said while pulling onto a dirt road. A sign was on the side, and it read: "Camp Jr. Poke". I couldn't wait to get out there, and I opened the door as soon as my dad parked the car. I stepped outside, letting the summer's rays shine down on me. I saw a couple other girls and waved.

[Agent Orange]

I was lounging in the nearby woods where I could see the camp. The new kids would be here soon.

Hope they don't freak out when the "wild" battles come...

I thought to myself.

Berri Shiroyuki had gotten to camp earlier then most girls. Having waken herself at 5am simply so that she could be at the camp early. At her side was a tattered leather suitcase and on her head was a yellow cap with fake rabbit ears sticking through.
"Oh, Hello!" She cried out in greeting to Sam, eyes glowing with excitement. Was she going to make friends? "My name's Shiroyuki Berri!"

[Lucky Flareon]

"Hi," Sammy said, glad that there was someone that she could talk to. "I'm Samantha, Samantha Malak." I could see my parnets smiling while they filled out paperwork, glad that I wasn't shy. "So is this your first time here too?"

[Satou]

"Of course, you silly!" Berri said with a giggle "The camp just opened. We're getting our eggs tonight! I hear we'll be pretending to be Pokemon trainers!" She said in excitement, putting her hand out to shake with Sammy.
"We're friends, right? Maybe we can travel together!!!"

[Lucky Flareon]

Sammy extended her hand and shook Berri's. "Oh, well I can add that to the list of things my parents didn't tell me about this camp," Sammy said with a giggle. "I can't wait to see what my Pokemon will be. I sure hope it likes me. And seeing as how we're friends, we can travel together. Thank goodness, I was a little nervous about maybe having to train solo."

[Satou]

"Haha. I know what you mean. I think hatching them from eggs will help... What about you?" Berri said happily, leading Sammy to a table with eggs on it.
"Uh... You pick first?"

[Lucky Flareon]

"Me too. Then we will be the first humans they ever know, and if we are kind to them, they shoud like us from the start," Sammy said hopefully.

She walked over with Berri to the table, where a variety of eggs laid. There were rows and rows, and no way to tell what Pokemon would come out of them. Her mom said that it was part of the fun, but she would much rather choose out a Pokemon that she liked.

"Uh ... Sure," Sammy said, unsure of which Pokemon she should choose. "Uh ... this one," she said while pointing to a light pink egg, with small white spots that were barely visible.

[Satou]

The egg was handed to Lucky just as Berri recieved her plain white egg.
"Welp... We've got some time before the first meeting... Let's go check out the forest! Maybe there are wild Pokemon there!" The 7 year old said cheerfully, her eyes twinkling with delight.

Florena lay in the moss at the base of a tree, her deep brown eyes glistening with happiness. She was glad that it was finally time for camp to begin, and awaited the moment that the campers would come into the woods and play.

[Agent Orange]

I saw one of the girls point this way. It looked like they were coming.

I lifted my head and waited.

Sammy held the egg carefully, not wanting to drop it by accident.

"All right," she said cheerfully. She quickly waved good-bye to her parents before skipping down the dirt road that lead to the forest.

[Agent Orange]

Here comes one....

Remember, don't attack if the freak, don't attack if they freak....wait the don't have Pokes yet...

"Growlithe!"

"Oh my god, Berri! Come here, it's soooo cute! It's a doggy Pokemon!" screamed Sammy, excited to finally see her first wild Pokemon.

[Agent Orange]

*Sigh* I...need....pay....

I walked up to the girl.

"Lith!"

I sat down in front of her.

[Lucky Flareon]

"Berri, hurry up, its sitting down!" Sammy screamed, getting overly excited. She bent down, and pet the Growithe's head, but only for a second. "Oh my god, I pet it!"

OOC: Being a little kid is so fun. ^.^ I wanna be little again!

Samara stood in front of the sign that read 'Camp Jr Poke.' and waved after her fathers car. He had dropped her off, signed the paper work, kissed her goodbye and told her to ring home as often as possible and to write to him to tell him what type of Pokemon she had gotten. Her mum had said the same thing that morning over the Video phone. Her mum lived in Kanto in Pewter city near Mt Moon doing research on Pokemon.

Looking around with nerves she noticed the table full of Pokemon eggs and small crowd of other children wanting to be future Pokemon trainers crowd around it to get there begginer eggs.

Hefting her backpack and playing with the visor on her cap she walked over and began to look at all the eggs. A bright orange one with small yellow spots caught her attention.

"Excuse me? Can I have that one?" She asked pointing it out.

The Camp Co-ordinator smiled and passed it to her carefully.

"Congradulations." She said before turning back to the other children.

"Thanks." Sammy said holding the egg close but not to tight, she didnt want to hurt it.

"A few of the other girls went into the forest a few minutes ago if you want to try and catch up to them." Another young Co-ordinator said pointing down a small dirt path into the forest.

Sammy nodded and holding her egg carefully jogged down the path eager to meet others who wanted to be trainers.

Sammy turned away from the Pokemon for a moment to wave at the girl who had just arrived. She, like herself and Berri, held an egg, carefully so that she wouldn't break it.

"Hi. I'm Samantha Malak," Sammy said while extrending her free hand out to the new camper.

"Lith!"

"Samara O'Neill, Sammy to my friends." Samara smiled happily moving the egg around so she could shake the other girls hands.

"Nice to meet you both!" She said happily shaking Berri's hand.

"Is that a growlithe?" She asked noticing the large dog like Pokemon sitting behind the two girls.

"You know what it is?" Samantha asked.

Samara nodded and smiled.

"My daddy has one, he gaurds the chickens in the hen house." Samara giggled and patted the large orange and black stripped Pokemon on the head.

"So, where are you girls from?" Samara asked turned back around the talk to what she hoped would be her new friends while once again shifting the egg in her arms.

Berri went into a fit of giggles and reached into her shirt pocket.
"I think I've got a cookie in here. I saved one for the trip. Do Growlithe like sugar cookies, Samara?"

OOC: I'll refer to myself as Samantha instead of Sammy to aviod too much confusion.

Samanatha laughed while Berri pulled a cookie out of her pocket. She wished she had something too, but she didn't dwell on it for long.

"Thats cool," Samantha said to Sammy. (OOC: Thats confusing, lol.) "My parents don't have any Pokemon. They said you don't need one when you live in Celedon. They said the police take care of protecting us, but I think Pokemon would do a better job."

[Satou]

Berri held the sugar cookie out to Growlithe, eyes wide with joy. This was the first wild Pokemon she'd seen in so long!
"Yeah, I know what you mean. The Police in Celadon have Growlithe though, right? The Police in Goldenrod do."

[Lucky Flareon]

"They do, but they have the whole city to worry about. If we had our own Pokemon, it would be there for us 24/7, and we wouldn't have to worry about traffic jams or anything to slow down the police," Samantha said.

[Satou]

"I know. I hope we get to keep our Pokemon when they hatch." Berri said happily, hugging her egg close "I wonder when they'll hatch..."

I took the cookie and barked in thanks.

Florena heard the campers' voices and looked up, her tawny brown ears pricked in curiosity. She rolled over onto her paws and started moving towards them, bushy brown and creme tail held loosely behind her.

[Azhure]

Samara giggled as the Growlithe took the cookie and woofed it down in one gulp.

"We live in Eruteck city, well we did, then dad moved us to New bark town and my mum got a job as a researcher in Pewter city in Kanto so my families been all over the place." Samara said hugging her egg close.

"My dad used to be a Pokemon trainer so we have lots of Pokemon all over the place... I hope my egg hatches soon. I want to know what type of Pokemon it is." Sammy said looking at the other girls.

"Yeah me too." Berri agreed.

"Same." said Samantha looking down at the egg in her arms.

A rustling bush off the side of the track caught all three girls attention.

"Whats that?" Samantha said slightly frightened.

"Maybe its another wild Pokemon!" Berri said excitedly.

Sammy agreed and they held there breath as they waited to see what it was.

Samantha's egg was wiggling in her fingers, a crack running up the side and then meeting its beginning. It crumbled and she was left with a shiney Eevee, a female one at that, and the little creature seemed to like her already.

OOC: I agree with Berri on the whole character thing.

Samantha felt like she was going to die right then and there. Here she was, 7 years old, and already she had a Pokemon, 3 years younger than most would be when they recieved their first. To top it all off, the Pokemon her egg had hatched into was considered fairly rare, and for an uncommon Pokemon to be shiney, and hers, was too much for the young girl to grasp at the moment.

The young Eevee looked up at her, making a slight whining sound. Samantha sat down, put the silver coated Eevee in her lap, and began to stoke the top of it's head with her hand.

"I need to think up a name for you..." Samantha sighed, naming the Pokemon was going to be harder than she had first thought. She studied her newly hatched Pokemon, hoping that would give her clues that would lead to a good name, but, to her dismay, it didn't. "How about ... Samantha Jr," said Samantha with a slight giggle.

Eevee looked up at her in confusion. "Oh don't worry, I wasn't serious. I will have to think up a better name for you. It will come in time, I'm sure of it."

[Satou]

EVENT

Samara's egg was also wiggling at an abnormally fast rate. The shell was growing warmer and warmer until finally it was too hot to hold!
(Sry, hope you don't mind this mild bunnying but I don't Samara would be able to hold the egg after how hot it got ^.^')
The egg wiggled more and wiggled free of her grasp, smashing against the ground. The shell bits fell away and a Houndour lifted its head up, his eyes bright with life. He didn't seem to be in much pain.
He then shot a playful ember at the ground but it didn't do much damage. The black dog walked a circle around Samara in wonder before playfully tackling her, an unbreakable friendship made.

(OOC: Guys I dont mind if you use my character, saying she was giggling or dropped the egg or whatever it doesnt bother me, but just dont make her do something thats not in her nature and we'll be fine, i'll tell you if you do and we can work on it together :biggrin: )

IC:

Samara was shocked that she now had her very own Houndour but also amazingly happy! Houndours made etremely loyal partners for trainers and are very strong and capable fighters Sammy was so pleased that she didnt even mind the minor burns and blisters on her palms from her Pokemons firey entrance.

Rolling around on the groud she wrestled the Houndour pup off her and cuddled it close while it licked her face with its ruff pink tongue.

"You need a name too." Samara laughed hysterically as the dog tried to squirm futher into her lap.

"How about.... Shadowflame? Its a good name. Your a dark type and fire type, kind of mixes the two up. What do you think?" Samara said scratching the dark pokemon behind the ears. He barked in response.

"I think that means yes." Berri laughed.

Samantha didnt say anything she was still shocked that she had a shinning silver evee.

[Satou]

Berri hugged her egg, which still wasn't even close to hatching.

Event of Doom

The camp bell rang. It was time for everyone to come in a get their basic camp supplies before heading off on their "journey".

((If anyone else wnats to join this is a good time.))

Samantha sighed at the bell, assoiating it with the same tone she heard at school. In her mind it marked the beginning, and maybe this beginning would be better than that of a school day. She picked up her Eevee, careful not to cause discomfort to her in any way. She looked around, and saw the Growithe not too far away. She walked over, gave him one last pat on the back before walking away. She hoped she would see the Pokemon again some time during the days at camp. Maybe she would even battle him!

Samantha, who was usually very talkative, was deep in thought about a name for her young Pokemon. No matter how hard she thought, a name wouldn't come to her ... not yet anyways. She decided to give it time. Her parents always told her "Good things come to those who wait," and Samantha hoped that they were right.

"Come on guys," Samantha called to the other two while walking up the same dirt path they had come down. She smiled as the main building came into view. This marked the beginning of her Jr. Pokemon Journey.

[Agent Orange]

I barked one last time as the girls left.

I hope I see them again....probably be a battle....

[Azhure]

The girls laughed happily together as they neared the main building. Lots of other Jr. Trainers were also making there way there, some with still unhatched eggs. Others with newly hatched Pokemon.

Houndour trotted happily at Samara's side and she smiled down at him. It was nice to have human friends at this camp, but she was looking forward to making many more Pokemon friends.

The large group of trainers stopped in front of the main building as a young women stood up on a podium to speak to the assembled trainers. A nervous and anxious silence fell over the group as she cleared her throat to speak.

[Satou]

The young woman hosting the camp cleared her throat and began to speak.

"Welcome to Camp Jr. Poke. As I am sure you know from your parents basicly what'll happen. You will go on a mini Pokemon Quest in the camp grounds. Tonight you will learn to pitch a tent and how to be sure you'll be safe at night while sleeping but tomorrow you'll be out on your own. There are wild Pokemon here but don't be afraid. Your Pokemon will protect you."

A Ninetails cried out in the forest, a Pokemon Gather also starting.

Florena perked her ears as she heard the Ninetails. ~The gathering is starting...I have to hurry!~ She began running towards the Ninetail's voice, hoping she wasn't late...again...

[Agent Orange]

I perked up my head.

Oh damn! I cain't be late!

I ran towards where the metting was going to take place.

[Satou]

The ninetails looked at the young Pokemon and nodded her head.
"Now. You must act like wild Pokemon. You are to run if the trainers get scared or try and catch you. Got it? Letting yourself appear beat up is also helpful to the baby Pokemon."

Florena nodded, understanding clearly what she must do. She watched the Ninetails carefully, awaiting to see if she would say anything else.
