Simplest answer would be....no. Effort Value points mean that you have to make an effort to train your pokemon as in battle other pokemon. Leaving them in the Day Care does nothing. Every Pokemon gives a certain amount of Effort Value points as explained here:

That website has helped me alot. You can also check in GameFAQs.com.

It works like this:
You have a Charizard. Now, you want to make it stronger by training it's EV's, effort values. Well, you can do this with any Pokemon, if you have an opponent with THE VALUE YOU WANT TO BE INCREASED (every Pokemon has a value, which is from Attack to Speed).
For example, an Electrike increases your Pokemon's Speed value. Well, when you kill an Electrike with your Charizard, it's Speed EV gets up! Magic? No, effort values. Same with all Pokemon. You just need to know which ones get which EV's up.
Of course there's a limit for EV's.
Also, vitamins (like Protein and Calcium) get the EV's up. That's a good way too. If you're rich. But there's a limit too. Eh.
But I'd REEALLY recommend Serebii (www.serebii.net). It's DAMN useful.
