View Full Version : Seperate place for shops?

I think there should be a seperate thread for sprite shops so sprite galleries don't drown in the flood of stores.

Is this a good idea?

I think this has been brought up before, but I'm too lazy to find the thread. :sleepy:

I have brought it up at least 3 times, and it has been brought up many times before that. I hate to say its not gonna happen.

We really, really need this. All those n00b sprite shops really bug me. Can mods make new boards, or is it just Ryan?

Just Ryan can make boards. I, too, have been pushing for a separte board for sprites. I would be nice to separate them. But as Defense said, it's been mentioned numerous times, and denied each.

Yeah, it'll be a good idea if there is a seperate thread for shops. All the sprite galleries, they don't remain for too long, they die quickly. The graphics art sedction should be only for the sprite galleries.

Did you hear what you just said? "The graphics art section should be only for the sprite galleries." Since when were sprites the only form of graphic art? I know Callum and I have been making a stand to get some art pieces done, I'm sure others would like to try it as well. It really is hard to make people around here see that graphic art is more than just banners and sprites.

Oh yeah I'm sorry. I forgot that many more things come under graphic arts. I'm sorry.

Well said D.2.
I still think the issue SHOULD be raised with Ryan atleast. Even if it is denied, atleast it'll be brought to his attention. It would be sensible, seeing as graphic arts is one of the more successfull areas of the forum.

Why exactly was it denied?

IIRC, Ryan didn't see it as a problem, figured the majority were sprite shops anyway, and if we made a new board, there would be no more threads left in the GA board. I disagree, I think it'd be a change for the better. Maybe he'll change his mind after seeing yet another of these threads.

I agree, there will be many threads, including more room for galleries, like graphics, for example. All I ever see are shops, and no galleries for people to create graphics and other kinds of sprites, and do as they please, without the hassle of requests.

I like this idea.

The Graphics Art area would die, mainly because 80% of the art is sprites. Hate to say it, but it's true.

I beg to differ. Most spriters have atleast a little talent in Graphics, even they could contribute. I think rather than die, it would inspire others to get up and make something decent. Most who currently make decent graphics are too passionate about it to let it die out anyway.

I'd say atleast 50% of spriters can make minimal graphics.

I'm just going on what I've seen. You're just throwing out a "what if" thing.

What if it inspired them.

It's a nice idea, but most people with a lot of talent make a deviantArt or something. This is a pokemon forum, most people who come here want to make pokemon sprites.

Edit: Minimal, yes, but not thread worthy, they can use the sticky for sharing one piece.

Ahh, touche.
I guess you're right, this is a Pokemon Forum. You could argue that people also make Pokemon art aswell though.
I just think it'd be beneficial to see a split between Pixels and Graphics. This should become a poll.

For a Pixel Board?

Yes
No
Not Needed.

The only other art I see thats pokemon related is drawings, most of the real cool stuff is shared in the photoshop club, because it's appreciated there.

I don't like saying it, but I really think the area would just lose a lot of activity. It would be like the Other Cards section that got merged with Other Games a while back.

They need each other. No one likes their work pushed back, but its all thats keeping it alive.

If Sprites got moved to a separate board, I'd be one of the many people there to keep the GA board alive. :ermm:

Like, I don't even feel like making a thread anymore because no one ends up looking at it after 5 minutes because it's already gone to the second page. :sleepy:

It's all prediction. You say you'll keep it alive, but do you know it for a fact?

How quickly can you make something really good?

I only know around four members who could actually have decent galleries, and that just isn't enough.

If a person newer to the graphics art business tries, they'll get criticized by some flamer. 9/10 times, that discourages them, and they want to give up.

This isn't a graphics forum, friends, think about the community around you. I hate to say it, trust me, I would like a separate area myself, but it can't happen without some kind of outburst of talent and people who are willing to take the time to read tutorials and things like that.

I can make stuff pretty fast.

A Gallery doesn't have to be decent. I can think of multiple active members who are worthy anyhow.

D.2, Lan, Shady, Yourself, Gaia, Myself, Gamabunta, Finchy, and many others. We aren't say this is a board for the Graphical God's, it is just nicer for others to appreciate your work, without multiple sprite shops that don't even get noticed cropping up all over the place.

Pretty fast if you are dedicated. And alot of people who make good graphics are dedicated. Look at someone like Gaia, a new comer. She still may have alot to learn, but she makes great banners, and atleast 1 a day at the rate she's going. I appreciate your point Shadow, sure this isn't a graphics forum, but I think it's just a nice step to keeping people happy.

So what you're saying is, Lan, you can make a ton of stuff for no reason whatsoever (requests), and constantly update a gallery.

If you can do that, heck, I support the idea all the way.

I'm just trying to point out that theres other things you can do, rather than wanting a whole separate board for requests. >_>

Although, I've seen people mixing together their galleries and shops. They can make two seperate ones so they don't get crashed with requests if there was one for shops and one for galleries.

Or maybe galleries can just be a sub-forum.

Can there be sub-sub forums? O_o

No, but it is art, and a normal sub forum for galleries would look pretty next to the other ones. Then again, my say in this matter is of the uselessness.

Obviously, I agree with this idea.

I would love to see this happen. I, too, am tired of seeing an avalanche of sprite shops when I click "Mixed: Graphics Arts". I'd like a place to easily view other artwork, such as abstract graphics, banners, and other images. Sprites are only about 25% or less of what graphics art is...at least, that's how it is when you consider the big picture and not just Pokemon art. :| *chants* Down with the joined boards!
