Has anyone here got shinies?

I caught a shiny this afternoon. I was searching for a Jigglypuff to evolve, to complete the pokedex. I came across thousands of Taillow and a Swablu. Then a pokemon appeared. I looked at the PC and heard a noise off the GBASP. I turned to it and saw a Taillow. I looked closely and saw it was a very dark green. So I threw a ball and caught it. I looked at it's summary and saw that behind the sprite was a lighter background and the number of the Taillow was in gold. I evolved it into Swellow and in the battle a star went around the Swellow.

So my shiny is Swellow!

I have a long list of shinies now,since I have restarted a million times just too get my wanted Shiney Torchic..but anyway,my shinies:

In ruby I have a shiny trapinch that my brother traded me because he knows how much I love Flygon lol. And in Sapphire I caught a shiny sandshrew while riding around hatching eggs on route 114 and then I got distracted and so I didn't notice that I had changed directions on my bike (riding all the way through Fallarbor (amazing I didn't crash into anyone or anything) and right into the ash fields and out popped a shiny sandshrew!

I got a shiney Trapinch, but traded it off to my sister who likes the flygon family a lot... That was in a Ruby File of mine.

Earlier ones include a Caterpie, (gold) Psyduck, (silver) and of course The Gyarados...

They are 100% random. Hours don't matter, cause' I had been playing less than an hour when I found my caterpie in gold...

But no. I had a lucky thing once. I was cheating to catch a Mewtwo (mufufufufu AR :rolleyes:) and stepped into the grass and Latias (this was sapphire) appeared. So the cheat for getting Mewtwo didn't work, but catching Latias just when I wasn't thinking of it... ha!

They Appear randomly so if your not looking for one you just might find one.

Sorry for reviving an 11 day old thread but this is actually an interesting one. At least think so!

Gold: Gyarados (duh!), Onix, Zubat (given to me) and Voltorb

I was in the Lapras Cave getting to the way down on a Friday night co catch my Lapras and I just ran into the Onix. I was like Whoah! A gold Onix. Can't let this one get away. He was a measly level 8 and I think I put him to sleep and then used something that was not very effective on him or maybe I just was throwing Balls at full HP with him asleep. I relaly forgot. He wasted all my Balls and I finally had to use my last one: a Luxury Ball. That was my last one and the only one I had of it's kind. I had ot use it to get the Shiny even if I was never gonna teach him Return. And I caught it finally. A friend of mine wanted a Shiny Steelix so I cloned mine and traded it with a Metal Coat for the Zubat mentioned above.

I got the Voltorb while accidentaly veering off into the grass above Rock Tunnel on my way to the Power Plant for my TM from the Guy at the Generator. Had to use Electric attacks since he was pretty low level.

Ruby: The only one I ever got was a Luvdisk.

I was fishing for Luvdisks to steal Scales and I just got that one so I stole the Scale and then got it into the Red and caught it. Forgot the Gender, though since I haven't been playing my Ruby for a while already.

Man shinies are sooo rare, you might as well boast about your good luck, lol. I was pretty lucky to get the Pokerus early in the game. I never noticed it doubled effort points.

My sister encountered a Pink Nidorina in her Pokemon Silver game. But she didn't have a moonstone. I could've seen it evolve into a Shiny Nidoqueen!

On my Sapphire version, I was off to train my Milotic until I encountered a Shiny Sableye, a golden one too! So I called it Goldeneye because it sounds quite catchy ya know? lol.

At level 46, it looks good to look at, but the status is rather the same, lol.

But I havent tried to breed it to get a shiny offspring.

I caught a yellow swablu above the berry house in Ruby. I didn't even know at the time that shiny pokemon had been incorporated into the Ru/Sa games. I nearly dropped my gba! Anyway, I caught the little bugger and made it into a powerhouse for the e4. I had it up to level 63 Altaria when I first challenged them, and all the rest of my pogeys were no better than 48, lol.

I also caught a tentacool. That one was weird. I'm a big fan of blue, but those dark blue bulbous thingies kinda creeped me out. I tried playing with him, but his stats were abysmal. So I ended up training him for the smart contests. :biggrin: He got me a painting, anyway. :silly:

I'm glad they put shinies in FR/LG too. I already have two of 'em on my team! Yay!

I don't have the patience to restart for shiny once-a-game pokemon. I wish I had a shiny latios or latias. :depress:

Koffing: I was looking for a Magmar in Burned Tower and it just appeared, :P, I caught it, but erased the file a lot later.

Hoothoot: This just appeared about 20 minutes into the game, I trained it to level 17, then gave up on the file. The Hoothoot was traded to my Crystal version for safe keeping, and it's still there.

Gyarados: Duh!

Zubat: I found this while playing my Silver version on the old GB, so I saw the stars appear, but I thought that I was just seeing things. I knocked out the Zubat, and at a later date I was informed as to why those stars appeared. I was annoyed!

I've gotten to the point where I almost hate shining Pokemon. I've had seriously bad luck when it comes to catching them (it particularly bugs me that the only one that doesn't give me so much trouble was Gyarados.) Here's my sad story...

This is the version I've cought most of my Shinies, 3 to be exact. Gyarados, is a duh.

Magikarp: Yes, I actually cought a shining Magikarp. I was fishing in Cinwood for Corsola when the Magikarp appeared. I was so happy that I finally cought a wild Shining Pokemon. But I was so unhappy that it was basically just another Shining Gyarados after I evolved it, so I didn't. And we all know how much Magikarp sucks.

Golbat: I found this in Victory Road. For those of you who haven't captured Shining Pokemon, don't think that this was easy. I'm VERY stubborn when it comes to training my Pokemon intensively. I only started through victory road about 200 hours later after catching that Magikarp. Anyway, I was glad to have actually captured 2 wild shinies in one game... but I didn't like the fact that it was a Golbat, I'm not a fan of Golbat. But, I loved the fact that It was Green, my favorate color that I obsess over. :hungry:

Sapphire was disappointing. Any shining I chought wasn't really mine. and any that would have been... well, Let's just say fell to unfortunate circumstance.

Golbat: Yes, I captured ANOTHER Golbat, in VICTORY ROAD, in a different game. :susp: But, I couldn't really keep it due to a certain circumstance. But at least since then I knew that R/S had shining Pokemon!

Numel: The unfortunate one. I was training near Firey Path in that patch for Numel because I was training some low level water Pokemon. It was late, and the Pokemon show was on and I figured I'd watch it to pass the time. I noticed that my pokemon could KO a numel in 2 shots, then I continued to watch TV. I looked back at my screen and saw another numel, already taken his first hit, and I went to hit it again. then I saw the unusual color on it's hump! DARN IT! IT WAS A SHINING! I had to suffer watching it get KO'd completly by accident! Oh the cruel Irony! Out of all the crummy things that i've done, I regret that the most. Let this be a lesson to all of you! Never KO a wild Pokemon until you are sure that it's not a Shiny! Don't make my same mistake... ( I know what you're thinking... ahem... :Cough:CRAZY:Cough:!)

Whismur: I was working on a project, and I burrowed a friends game to start the game over. (I had way too many good things in my own version to start over.) It just so happened that my friend had gone through the game in a hurry and missed a lot of stuff, so I decided that since she didn't want any of it, I'll collect it all and transfer it to my game. And almost as soon as I started, I ran through Rusturf (I think it's called) cave, and there it was! I cought it and transfered it to my game. But It still isn't quite mine.

That's my entire history: The shinings I've captured either I have cought them before, couldn't keep them, or both. I have yet to come across a shining that I can really enjoy like the rest of you do. As for those of you who can't seem to find any shinings... here's my advice...

General Rule of the Thumb: you'll find a Shining Pokemon for about every 200 hours of play. (that's not a sure thing, but it's close; sorry for the person unlucky enough to play for over 700 hours and not find one.)

Second General Rule of the Thumb, As mentioned before, DON'T look, or hunt for shinings. Though I have known someone who was sucessful at capturing a rare Shining Pokemon through reseting and such, it's a big time waster. As mentioned, they come when you least expect it... like for instance, when you're watching TV. :dazed:

Same here. My Taillow appeared when I was busy on the PC. It's just luck it happens at those times.

I found my first Shiny (Golbat) at around 30 hours. Second Shiny (Wingull) at around 120 hours (During Latios hunt. Found Latios an hour later, so extremely lucky).

Truthfully, you have the same chance of seeing a Shiny in your next battle, as seeing one in several months. Chances never change, and there is absolutely no set time. For example, if you flip a coin ten thousand times, does it have to be heads even once? No. It might be likely, but there is still the exact same chance of getting a heads as tails (Though dont think of it as 1000; think of it as each flip is a new chance, just as each Pokemon battle is a new chance to encounter a shiny).

I don't suggest Shiny hunting however; it's a waste of time.

Gah! Monheart! The numel was just painful to hear about. I missed a shiny ponyta the same D***M way. Mindlessly leveling up and oops -- I got to see it as it fainted away...I wanna second channnnnnce.

Hundreds of hours and all the shinies I have (other than the ubiquious gyarados) is a (I kid you not) yellow magicarp (sound familiar -- I was soo bummed when it evo'd red !!!!) and a green-gemmed tentacool.

I've finished, pokedex and all, silver, gold, crystal, ruby and am way deep 150 hrs+ in fr, lg, and sapphire, and not another shiny seen.

And I train slow and beat up lots of wild mons. I tried to have patience to get a shiny starter, but gave up after 2 hours and just settled for a girl charizard and blubasaur with good natures.

one day I Sharked a low level team of ledgendaries* and cauth them in a luxury ball. I wass leveling entai and had the game shark make me encounter Deoxys so entai's bite would be super effectived and get a lot of exp. then I encounterd a Shiny ????? but the game shark made it a Deoxys!!!!!!! :biggrin:
BUT all I had where luxery balls and ledgendaries* are hard to catch with luxery balls. I used about 50 luxery balls when it started to use struggle :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then it fainted it self!
