Hey there are so many stupid moves out there and i'm thinking why do you think the people even made them.
post the move and right the reason why it was created
for instance why did they make splash may be the programmers wanted to get wet with a female freebas
for instance why did they make splash may be the programmers wanted to get wet with a female freebas
Heh a Hydro Pump would get them more wet.
But seriously the reason why they have Splash is so Magikarp < Level 15 can't deal damage. They put in a super high PP move that does nothing so that Magikarp can't use struggle without already using 40 Splashes (extremely hard to do with a Magikarp under level 15).

Well, I guess every move has some kind of a meaning, though some of them are pointless. But yeah, some moves just need more power. Like Rock Smash. Damn I hate that move.
bigboy, don't double post. That means posting two or more posts in a row.

Mud Sport and Water Sport are freaking useless as well. Especially since the Pokemon who learns these moves will be able to kill the fire and electric Pokemon without that. I mean, it would make more sense if a Grass type had Water Sport, to guard itself against a Fire Pokemon. But, even so... just can't see the point in these two moves.

I think splash was created to show how a really weak pokemon could become really strong if you are patient. But, that's just plain stupidity.

I think they made rock smash suck cause its a HM and to piss you off.
I can really relate to you about the dumb moves. I really hate splash, water sport, rock smash, ect, you guys know them all. The reason there made is to balance out the game. Look at the difference between Magicrap and Garry. A huge one. He's powerful so they make you work hard to get one. Although I'm sure everyone hates splash, he's worth it right?

I don't think that Gyarados is worth after R/B/Y. His special stats were slashed going into G/S/C and their the same now in Ru/Sa. To bad too. He was always my favorite bruiser.

Meh Tauntrados is pretty damn good and can be a killer. Dragon Dance helped it out a lot and so did Earthquake. I still prefer the RBY Gyarados though - pure all out offensive monster both on the Physical and Special side.

They are not stupid moves, persay, but right now I'd fed up with Roar and Whirlwind.
It's really annoying try to level up in Victory Road when the pokemon that give you good EXP take you out of the battle when you're about to land the final blow. :susp:

Rocksmash can't be too strong people because..remember? Infinite tutoring of HMs to Pokemon?

What about Surf though? 95 base power Water move. There isn't much that can beat that .
I think Splash is not a dumb move at all. It serves a purpose: to make it impossible to level Magikarp up to level 15 by itself.
The Sport moves are probably the most useless but they could help with certain Gym Leaders and E4 Members.

Wrap and constrict are the two most annoying moves to me...I want to kill them, but they are not living things.
Personally, I like splash. Why? Because, for me, the sole purpose of Magikarp is to laugh at it in it's lameness. Besides, it teaches the virtue of teamwork (aka, sending out Magikarp and immediately switching) as well as EXP Share. :D

To me no offensive move (Except for splash) is that useless. But in the case of whirlwind and roar, look at it this way, you hate it when it's working against you, but if your pokemon has it it can be kinda useful. Just not for me. I'm one of those people who can't stand stat lowering moves. I ALWAYS replace them with something offensive. A semi-pointless move is Sleep Powder and Hypnosis. Sure they're useful for putting the enimy to sleep, but in most cases it only lasts about 3 turns.

I like splash for the reason that if you get a high level garydos, delete all the moves but splash, and have six of them, then make it your team when you record mix and you can gain lots of experience on very weak pokemon by fighting the garydos in your secret base, and the garydos will not even be able to fight back in any way, also useful in gaining EV's.

I really dont't get why they put in things like sonicboom..it deals only 20 damage each time, now if your a lvl 5 thats great, but fo a magniton lvl 100 that knows sonicboom thats just sad...same with dragon rage that only deals 40 damage..

That is a bloody brilliant idea.
Mud Sport and Water Sport are there so you can try and breed them into pokemon that can actually use them. ;)
To be honest, Struggle is the worst move. You cant even use it until all your other crap is gone, and then it does terrible damage.

Oy, there is the Contest matter in RSE. Slash is a pretty good move in the Cute contests, and Mud Sport/Watter Sport is a combo move in the same catagory. However for battle wise, they're useless, because a pokemon that could learn those moves probably could learn an offensive move to take a Fire/Electric pokemon out, same breeding wise. The only pokemon I ever kept Water Sport on was my Masquerain, only becasue it loses its water type when it evolves, and I had to battle Flannery. Yes, I found one when I first started my game outside Oldale town. That was a shocker, but still, thats off topic.

This is starting to become the "I hate Splash" thread.
First off, I don't see why people are saying that moves like hyper beam ands Frenzy Plant are bad.
I've got Frenzy Plant on my Venusaur and I use it quite effectively. I'll send him out in the elite four, kill steelix and other pokemon that are weak against grass with one hit of frenzy plant. and if you trade him out with another pokemon after he kills someone with it, the recharge doesn't effect the next pokemon.
As for useless moves, I don't really know any.
Furry Cutter is pretty lame, it's super effective against psychic of course, but even against those it's not that strong.

using it once, fury cutter isn't good. However, using it more times makes it a killer. *remembers the time Bugsy beat me in Silver because I let him Fury cutter* The problem is using it enough times....
one move that can be useless is snore. Low power, normal type, and can be used only while asleep. Yes, it can cause flinching, but who need it if you're slower?

They put in splash because of the TV show. I haven't watched the old series in awhile, but if I remember correctly. Splash was meant to see how poweful the Magikarp was. If it didn't splash high in the air, there was no point in keeping it, but if it did it was going to be a strong Magikarp. If this isn't true, I'm sorry. We all do know Splash is probably never going to have effects, but I think I remember that from the show.

Well, you have to have a good sense of how strong you are as opposed to your opponet. If you don't think it'll kill them in one hit, damage them a little first then finish them off.
I usually use my PP UPS on moves that only have 5 power points. It's definatly worth it.
Overheat sucks too, unless you use it at just the right time. I know it's saved me in a battle or two, but it makes your pokemon basically usless for the rest of the battle. If you try to use it more than once, it only does about half as well.
That reminds me, Close Combat is about the same, if you use it, you can deal some nice damage, but right afterwards your defence and special defence is sharply cut and you're left wide open to be taken down. It also only has 5 pp.

howl, growl, agility, growth, leer, and pretty much all moves that that heighten attact stats but deal no damage. Not that they're horrible moves, but in a turn base game these attacks just leave your pokemon open to damage, and certain attacks like howl need to performed at least 3 times in a row for them to really be useful and to wait that long to deal an attack is just asking to die. I kind of wish they'd allow you to couple these moves with attacks say like have your pokemon use agility and furry swipes together, that way it'd be a little be more realistic if you were actually battling someone (kind of like in the show).
Another move I hate is supersonic, not cause it's useless but because it's annoying when a pokemon uses it on one of your own and then it get's all confused and ends up doing itself in -_- what's most annoying about this move is if your own pokemon uses it on someone else the other pokemon sparingly hurts itself in it's confusion, it's so annoying.

Agility is great for things like Metagross. Defense raising moves are good for tanks. Things like Leer, Growl, ect. are great, because at times, it can force a switch.
Double Team is the one move I hate. Its just insane. Glad most people play with a DT clause.
