Hope it's not a bug...

I was trading A Flareon (Fire Red) for a Magnamite (Ruby) from Fire Red to Ruby today when I noticed something odd. The sprite for the Fire Red character on Ruby was a Brenden sprite (Male Ruby/Saphire trainer sprite) I told my friend and he said it should'nt do that, since he said his Sahpire had the correct sprite. Both Pokémon turned out fine when I traded them but I'm scared to trade again just incase my file corrupts or something. I have turned the game off and swtihced it back on and it's fine. So question is, Why did the sprites get mixed up? A bug? or is my friend wrong?
