What I mean is Skitty is a cat Pokemon, Poochyena is a dog Pokemon. Kyogre confuses me for it's a whale like Wailmer/Wailord, but it has these wings and I am not sure if it's a flying fish like Pokemon. What type of Pokemon would you say Kyogre is, a flying whale type Pokemon with the wings?

It just seems to be a more slender whale type thing...
I mean, it has a blowhole, but it has wings... it is weird...
Perhaps some research into this could give us some insight into where the idea behind Kyogre came from... maybe the name is some sort of clue.
Oh, and BTW, I just hit 700 posts, yay!!

Kyogre/Kaioga is an Orca or Killer Whale. It's name is believed to be something like "God Orca." But the pictures are enough to tell really.

Kyogre is the lord of the sea. Orca's reign supreme in the ocean. They are not whales but dolphins and they have the ability to kill even the great blue whale.
Ah, well I have to go for now. I'll be back later to finish. And remember, they are not going to make a pokemon look exactly like it's real world counter part. To me it's practically identical to an Orca. The fins kind of make it look more majestic and important as well as a little goofy lol.

DragonTamer is absolutely right. Though I think this should go in General Board! ^^

Now that Barret points it out I just realised that this is in the wrong board... meh, ah well... it happens.
Hmm, yeah, there is a resemblence, a more slender and more powerful-looking Orca then, suits me, XD.

How are Kyogre's fins wings, there are no feathers on it, they look more like the skeleton of a blue whale fin.

Are too much similar, Pokemon possess some differences with their real counter part, because it gives them a sense of powerfull creatures, since Kyogre is a Legendary, his has to look more powerfull than average pkm. The big fins, like all fins, works to increase mobility in water. Maybe Kyogre, swims like a Manta, because, Manta's have big fins.

Kyogre is 100% water pkm.

Pokemon are not supposed to be animals. Some resemble certain animals, but there are obviously different. So while Kyogre is more like an orca than anything, it will have its own unique features as well.

Pokemon are usually symbols, standing for or honoring something in real life. Like for instance, Ampharos got its name from "amp" in "amplify" + "Pharos", which is the name of a lighthouse built in Roman times and was said to be the brigthest lighthouse in history. Interesting, huh?

Yes that is.
And Jeikobu, Pikachu/Raichu-the mouse Pokemon, Growlithe-the Puppy Pokemon, Vulpix/Ninetales-the fox Pokemon, Char/mander/meleon/izard-the lizard Pokemon, Squirtle-the tiny turtle Pokemon, wartortle-the turtle Pokemon, Blastoise-the shellfish Pokemon, Rattata/Raticate-the rat Pokemon, Meowth-the scratch cat Pokemon, Persian-the classy cat Pokemon, Poli/wag/whirl/wrath-the tadpole Pokemon, I could go on forever but I'm sure you've heard enough.

Really? This is interesting for you to say this, because it has most often been presummed that Lapras was the "King of the Sea," as seen in FR/LG & R/B/Y. In Fuschia City there is a Lapras and the sign beside it says "Lapras AKA King of the Sea" or something to that effect.

Jeikobu mentioned that Pokémon are not soley based on animals, though some Pokémon are. Let's put it this way... Some Pokémon come directly from animals, but not all of them. That's what he was getting at. Exampe: Unown, Gengar. Those two aren't animals, thus making the statement of Jeikobu's true.

Theres some interesting ideas here. I like the whale one best. If you notice in Sapphire in the cave of Origin Kyogre is in the water. Also one Ruby/Sapphire it cannot learn fly.

1. But thats what the ppl of Kanto think. The ppl of hoenn don't care about what the ppl of Kanto say cause the have there own beliefs.
2. I know not all Pokemon are animals, but it sure was sounding like Jeikobu was saying none of them were. Gengar is a ghost, ghost tend to take on any odd form. Unown are letters, a-z and!/?. Geodude is a rock, wile bellsprout is a plant, but all in all a lot (if not half) of Pokemon were made after animals. One of my personal favs of Pokemon species is: Snorunt-the snow hat Pokemon, a Pokemon made after a hat, theres something that makes that funny to me  .
