War VI
Drawn Arts Contest Category
Welcome to the Drawn Arts section of the WAR! Yes, for those of you artists who neither sprite nor make banners, we now have a section you can compete in. Before you get started, however, there are a few ground rules....
General Parameters
All Artwork must be drawn entirely and solely by the person entering it
Entries may be drawn on a computer, or by hand. For some contests, they must be done by hand, and I will specify which these are.
Coloring and shading should be drawn, also. I don't care if you color, or just use charcoal pencils, or what.... But you may not use a computer program to provide shading for you. You have to actually do it yourself.
Submissions, or the link to them, should be PMed to me. This way, no one can steal your idea or work.
Only ONE change of submission will be allowed, and it must be done no later than 7 PM on friday night.
Entries should be submitted in .jpg, .gif, OR .png form.
Contests
Week One: Team Spirit. Won by Doroshii and Pokemon Trainer Sarah
Week Two: Old Movies. Won by Alpha Girl and Ali The Dark One.
Week Three: Family. Won by Rocketmeowth, Kenny.
Week four: Hunter judged
Week Five: Sky girl and Falcon
Week Six:
This week's contest's theme will be Psyduck.
This week’s drawing MUST be shaded. It may be colored in shades of grey if you want, but you can't just draw an outline.
The picture may be created in any way you like- drawn, painted, etc- as long as you do all of the work yourself. You may not, however, use stock, stamps in the shapes of Pokemon, and so on.
This week’s theme is Psyduck. Include one somewhere in your drawing.
The pictures will be due by midnight on Friday. Please post all submissions here!
Judging for this contest
Art will be judged on the following:
Basic drawing, or skill level.Intentionally abstract styles, as long as they still provide a reasonable level of detail, or are proportionate to themselves if not to normal standards, will not have points detracted. Neatness also counts- if I can see horizon lines (This does not include the horizon in a picture, for those of you who don't know of this method. It refers to lines drawn from the horizon to the rest of the drawing, to keep everything proportionate), or lines splitting up the face, that's not good. I should not be able to see what method you used to make your drawing.
Highest possible Grade: 15
Creativity/Originality.
No explanation needed here.
Highest possible grade: 12
Shading/Color.
If your shading is inconsistent, or does not make sense (You have a single light source but your shadows are all over the place, for example), this will lower your overall score. If you did not color or shade, then line thickness(If you have used this instead of shading to indicate location, lighting, or thickness of an object) and individual object placement will be taken into account instead.
Highest possible grade: 12
Other/Theme.
Everything else you did- unique choices of subject, a good depiction, the strengths and weaknesses of the drawing as a whole- will be judged here.
Highest possible grade: 6
Best possible score, overall: 45

Very cool. =) Thanks for entering!
Anyway, since I forgot to add this... This section will, of course, close on friday, as many others are doing. ;) So please have all entries in by then.
Also, 1st place and 2nd place will be awarded, at 1 point each.
Try to remember to send it by PM next time, however.
My entry is almost done, I'll have it in tomorrow, but it will be a webcam pic since I have nothing else.

I have a great idea for an entry. It is Friday tomorrow, but I will have some spare time in the day. Please could you close it Friday evening. That should give me some time to do it. My scanner is pretty poor, but if the outlines are thick it will show up. I will be able to get a drawing done sometime in the afternoon tomorrow.
EDIT: Sorry I can't find time to make my entry. I will have to duck out of this one.

It will indeed be closed in the evening on friday. I will close it at 11 PM, in my time zone (New York time). All entries after that will be ignored.
I'm sorry I wont be able to get my entry in tonight. Sick, busy, cant finish. Maybe next week.

You don't have to use color. It is preferred, but if you neglected to use it for artistic purposes, then it is not required.
The competition is now closed. Thank you to all those who entered.

Scoring has begun. Expect the results by Sunday at the latest.
Since I've gotten a few questions... Here's a bit more about how scoring will work.
Basic drawing, or skill level.
Intentionally abstract styles, as long as they still provide a reasonable level of detail, or are proportionate to themselves if not to normal standards, will not have points detracted.
Grade variables:
More than 2 minor errors will result in a 13 or lower.
From there, proportion and messiness (IE, failure to erase thoroughly, etc) will result in further deducations.
Generally, a well drawn picture will not get below an 11.
Creativity/Originality:
The average grade will likely be a 7-10. Should you neglect to include more than a single subject, or if you have an overly simple piece, it may fall lower. Only exceptional shows of creativity will get higher than a 10.
Shading/Color:
I will be lenient on this, because everyone does it differently. Unless you have glaring errors, you will likely get at least a 8. Perfect 12's will be given only to paintings where a reasonable, consistent light source(s) can be identified.
Other:
Default grade is a 6. Points will be deducted for sloppiness, and other errors not covered by the other categories.

They are posted farther up.
For privacy, I won't be posting the section scores or comments of each drawing, just the final score. The artists, however, can PM me if they would like to see exactly how their piece was scored.
Good job, everyone, and congratulations- The entries were all wonderful, and it was /very/ close.
Pokemon Trainer Sarah/ Team Trainer: 39
Ali The Dark One/ NSRK: 34
Emberon/ Syndicate: 38
Doroshii/Swarm: 39
This means there is a tie between Team Trainer and Team Swarm! ^_~ However, since both 1st and 2nd place are only worth 1 point each, there's no need for a tiebreaker. Both of you recieve a point. Congrats.
I hope to see a few more entries next week! (And to the person who sent her picture in literally 2 seconds before the time limit... Please try to be more timely. ;P You were very, veryyyy close to not making it!)

Congratulations to Skygirl and Ali~ Doro's drawing is really cute though <333
Edit: o____o;
Woah, my connection finally allowed Tabbz' entry to load. S-so cool...
I liked Doro's. But how in the world did Ali beat Saori or Tabbz?? I'd ask that no matter what team they were on....

Tis' true...
My drawing looked like a peanut compared to Saori's, Tabbz's, and Doroshii's... FK, could you PM me on what my exact grading was?
I'd say that there's a good chance that it was just a typo... Maybe FK just liked my theme, or liked how I made the pokemon look like they were from Green version...
Like how these guys look slightly awkward compared to their modern appearance:

Nn, FK is just really particular with the medium used~ Since yours was pencil, it followed the "Drawn Art" category FK desires. Sky Girl's entry is digital but she managed to make it look like it was pencil so I guess that's what placed her on top, aside of course with the fun looking drawing. As for Tab, Doro and me, FK actually didn't want mediums like paint, digital art [if it's not pencil-looking] and ink because it doesn't follow what drawn art is for her.
FK debated how she wanted the entries to be in Syndicate's thread > w <

I liked Doro's. But how in the world did Ali beat Saori or Tabbz?? I'd ask that no matter what team they were on....
Easy.
Doro's was okay, but it didn't seem very movie-like to me. Also, the creativity didn't really seem there this week... ^^; Ali's was very original, and her style improved a lot- last week, she had stray lines and such. This week's was very good. The shading was well done, and I could locate light sources. That's important.
Saori's was okay, but it was not at all like drawn art. It looked computer animated. Also, the theme was old black and white movies, but her drawing looks like it is from a modern-day anime... Which I felt did not fully complete the task at hand.
Tabbz was somewhat unclear- which is okay for some styles, but also did not remind me at all of a black and white movie. Ali's was not particularly movie like, either, but it did remind me of the black lagoon monster movies, so at least she had a good reference. Also, there were obvious proportions... Abstract ones are fine, but only if they fit the theme, and most old black and white movies were not done like an abstract portrait, which is what Tabb's reminded me of.
I am going to include more mediums in the future ones, since they will fit the themes. However, few of the entries this time really reminded me of black and white movies... SO I went with the one that at least had some connection, and reminded me of a drawing board sketch for such a movie. The reference to a slightly corny movie, combined with a sketch that reminded me of an early-model of a movie design character, was a nice touch.

Congrats to the winners! And thanks for the kind comments. I just love Saori's. :o
@FFK:XD sorry but I did specifically say it relates to old movies because its supposed to be a Flapper.
I hoped if it was unknown you might look it up, but I guess not?

Yes. ^^: Flappers are awesome... But while you explained it, it didn't really inspire one to me, I guess.
And yes, the entries have been pretty cool this time. ^_^ Hehe. I'm hoping for even more good ones in week 3.

I will be gone until tuesday (I did send a warning PM ahead of time) so a hunter judge should get this. And here's next week's challenge, which I will be bak in time for:
Vacation in the tropics
Translate this however you want, but include at least 3 pokemon in teh image.
Requierments:
- Use color! Paint, pencils, whatever, but I expect to see colors.
- Remember, tropical theme= tropical, 'warm' colors. If you dont' know which thiose are, ask an artist/art teacher.
- Tropical 'mon. If your image has a desert, I don't wanna see water types, there, okay? Common sense. Use tropical Pokemon, and scenery.
-No text!
I think this about covers it. Good luck to all. Please PM all entries to me this week.

Me Hunter Judging. SO the results.
1st Sky Girl 43 Points I loved your entry. It was amazing. I feel that that was what FireFly wanted.
2nd Sarah 40 points I loved yours quite a bit Sarah. I would see that for a Psyduck entry.. I loved the way you made it feel new.
Kudos
Mikey: Yours made me laugh, but it wasn't good enough. The creativity there was niced. I truthfully didn't expect to see that entry. You got a 38 so close. Keep on tryin and don't give up. You got the talent, you just need to push it a bit more
Further Explanations will be available over PM.
So Congratz to week 4 people and I won't probably be hunter judging next week, but I can't wait to see the entries.

This week's competition:
Grass types! Your entry may be of an theme, but it must include 2 grass type Pokemon, one of which should be a basic or a 1st stage.
This image should be done in color. Do not turn in just an outline.
For this week's entry, please do not draw it with a computer. Any other medium- paint, pencils, whatever- is allowed.
