It really is up to your style. raise them well from the start, and it's hard to go wrong. if you feel your team is strong, and you've got a bit of strategy, you can get very far. here's a few tips/recommendations:
-A "special sweeper" would really help. make it's special attack really high, and give it a ton of different, strong, types of attacks. ice beam, thunderbolt, flamethrower (fire blast, blizzard, and the like all have low accuracy. you want to hit often, and hard)
-A "tank." High defense and hp, like Chansey and Snorlax, are essential. No glaring weaknesses or 4x weaks (like Gyarados against an electric attack,)
-Any of your best pokemon. Your starter, since all starters are very good in stats, is almost always a gimme.
-You could also use a physical sweeper. same as special, but with regular attack and a variety of good strong moves like earthquake and such.
-Keep your moves all in different types, don't use, say, blaziken, with all fire moves. A better moveset would be blaze kick, sky uppercut, mirror move, bulk up. He can increase his own strength, use his opponents attacks against them (a lot of weaknesses can be exploited that way), and he's got 2 strong attacks in 2 different types.
Good luck!
I would go in with a team that suites you and then see what type pokemon most of your opponents are using and if you don't win, use a pokemon that has a type advantage over your opponents' pokemon.

I've beat the towe many times using this team
Umbreon@leftovers
bold nature
EVs: 252 Hp, 128 def, 128 sp def
toxic
double team
wish
baton pass
umbreon do almost all the job, just toxic the opponent and dt several times, wish when needed and BP when low hp or a poison, steel or a snorlax comes in
Smeargle@salac berry
Jolly nature
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Spd
spore
lock on
substitute
sheer cold
when evasion is BPed, this guy is really impressive, since it can ko most slow opponents with lock on + sheer cold
Alakazam@scope lens
Modest nature
EVs: 252 Spd, 252 SpAtk
fire punch
psychic
thunder punch
ice punch
my only sweeper, I only use this guy to take poison, steel, or sturdy pokemon, since it can easily OHKO them
just watch out for this guy, since it can screw the entire team:
Dragonite
dragon claw
dragon dance
thunder wave
aerial ace

i would say evolve your dragonair 1st then swap smeargle for a flygon if you have one as i believe there the best poke's on the game...good high attk with equal def and speed...its like the perfect pokemon

Thank you for the compliment.
Here's a well-made site to show different roles along with example pokemon, EV's and movesets: http://www.psypokes.com/dex/roles.php
I don't understand why people on this site recommend Smeargle so often, as great as It's move pool is, it has absolutely horrific stats, worse than even luvdisc. It's only saving point is speed, which is at 75 base.
I wish Eevee was catchable in RSE, as it is in every(?) other game in the series. Umbreon is another of my personal favorites...

well, it's true... smeargle's stats SUX, but this pokemon has a wide movepool, so it can be used in many roles.

baton pass
OHKOer:
spore
mean look/block/spider web

sheer cold/fissure/horn drill/guillotine
ANNOYER:

Also, using slow Pokemon will waste time, the best Pokemon to use there are: Wobaffet, Latias, Latios, and Slacking.

I was looking to conquer DP's tower, think you guys could help me out?
I was considering:
Magnezone,
Dusknoir,
Milotic,
Blastiose,
Lucicolo,
Armaldo,
Camerupt,
Poliwrath,
Salemance,
Charizard
and
Dragonite as options, but I can't decide... Maybe like, Armaldo, Magnezone, Lucicolo? Dusknoir?
...yeah, I'm just pretty confused.

Please, POST IT SOMEWHERE EVERYONE CAN UNDERSTAND.
It's kind of annoying that you post here in the EMERALD FORUM.
It's even MORE annoying that some of us here, like me, DO NOT have D/P.

Well, it all depends if you choose Lv 50 or 100. For Lv 50, I think its harder. This is because the pokemon are not all at their full potentil, and some pokemon evolve after Lv 50. If you you do try Lv 50,heres a great team:
All Lv 50 by the way.
Flygon: Aka, the sweaper. It has high stats, can learn awsome moves, and looks good to. My suggestions for the moves are: Flame Thrower, Dragon Claw, Earth Quake, ????.
It is the last evolution of trapinch, found in the dessert. It evolves from Vibrava at lv 35.
Swampert: Aka the power house/ back up. When in a jam, Swampert will almost always pull through, except with a grass pokemon. I suggest Surf, Protect, Earth Quake, and Ice Beam. It is a starter, obviously the last evolution of Mudkip. It evolves from Marshtomp at lv 36.
Wailord: Aka the blocker. This piece of blubber is off the charts with hp. Also, it can learn great moves like surf. You can pick the moves, as any will work. It is the evolution of wailmer, found by fishing anywhere with a super rod. ( In the LilyCove water, wailmer are common) It evolves from Wailmer at Lv 40.
For the Lv 100, you can choose the same team, or strong pokemon like Salamance, Gardavoir etc. The Lv 100 battle tower team is all about power. Be creative, and choose your favourites.
