No, I think so too.

If there was a move to avoid needing to Recharge...

The only poke'mon good for this is Slakoth and Slacking because they need to recharge with it.

Other pokemon with it sucks.

No! It is defently not useless! (me and my orignal combos) porygon z is the higest (tied) with alakazam that is not uber. Modest and ev traind to the max in the area, I gave it choice spects and with adabitabilty, and i have yet found SOMEONE to surrive it. its like a ohko.i haveother moves incase i dont need that ohko thou. ^_^ (i have said too much, but you get my point.)( and i battle where all levels are set to the same) I soppose a pokemon high in sp. defence and if its not very effective could surrvive thou...

i agree that slakoth and slaking are good with it because there gonna be incapasetaded:crackup:(ispell bad) either way but other than those 2 and maype a tank any one with skill will brake you open like a pinata while your recharging

Return is so much more effective on a CB Slaking (the most effective type of Slaking) than Hyper Beam. Return OHKOs about 96% of things that Hyper Beam does. The problem with Hyper Beam is that it leaves you unable to do ANYTHING. With Truant you can switch out during this turn. Against a computer this is fine but a competitive player can easily take advantage of this.

That being said, I actually believe that Hyper Beam does have its uses. I have used it effectively as a last-ditch move. It kind of works like a watered-down Explosion of sorts. It will definitely catch your opponent by surprise and could score you a KO.

As a primary attacking move, I would say that it is a bad choice. Other moves do a lot more damage-over-time and don't leave you helpless for a turn. The frontload attacking style is far more effective than charge up attacks like Solarbeam (without Sunny Day in effect) so I'll give it that.

Hyper Beam would really work well with Slaking, indeed. Apart from that, yes, it's basically a useless move.

yeah i see ur point but wouldn't double-edge be better than return in competitive battling cuz slaking will probably get killed fast anyways. wat do u think?:ermm:

Hyper Beam is completely useless, mainly because you need to recharge. It's the same with Solar Beam and the whole "taking in sunlight" thing really.

I really think this a dumb chioce.

Unless you have a pokemon with good defence and high HP.

its a 1-hit kill move or 2 hit killa move in Battle tower if you use it with charizard. If you think its useless with your pokemon, then obviously your pokemon sucks with it and that dosent mean its necessarily a crappy move.

I think that Hyper Beam can be useful as a last ditch move, much like Explosion. If you're going to faint soon, use a Hyper Beam. Even if you don't kill the opponent, you must have taken out a good chunk of HP.

People underrate Hyper Beam. It's useful for OHKO'ing an opponent that can OHKO you.

I agree. But it can't be super effective.

If Slaking is using Return with a full happiness scale, Return reaches about 120 damage. Double-Edge is weaker, and causes recoil.

I agree that Hyper Beam has no real use, though.
