PAUL IS LIKE A REPLACEMENT OF GARY..isn't it..
ALSO
Im VERY GLAD that Ash got Paul's Chimchar..he is just soo mean to all of his Pokemon, espeically Chimchar! Also, Paul looks way much stronger than Ash..he has all those heavy Pokemon like Torterra, Electabuzz.etc.
What is Paul?? Is he a starter or what? I alway thought that he was just a starter..how on earth could his Pokemon evovle so fast..and when did he got a turtwig?? cuz if he didn't get a Turtwig..wouldn't iot be rare for him to find a Torterra in the wild?

According to his bio (http://www.serebii.net/anime/characters/paul.shtml), he's been a pokemon trainer for as long as Ash has. So of course, he could've gotten turtwig the first time he was in Sinnoh, and Chimchar the second time.

I thought it was cool that Ash got Chimchar, too. I actually like Paul, though. Yeah, he's a jerk to his Pokemons(But they're fictional creatures.)Unlike everyone else he isn't like this:
-"ZOMG!1 Let's be BFF! I won't even catch or nothing, not even give you to Team Rocket even though you're WILD so it wouldn't matter! :D :D :D Joy! We'll be bestest buddies! But I'll end up releasing you anyways!! :D :D :D :D"
No... I don't know why i still love the Show(The silly-ness. mostly :P)
Ya' gotta' admit, though... It's nice to have a Character who's different.
By the way... I wouldn't say Paul is a Gary replacement, but Ash's Sinnoh Rival.

...did you really just make a thread to bash a character?
Anyways, it's better releasing them into the wild (he even told Chimchar to go where it wanted) than leaving them at Oak's where they don't battle at all but can't have a chance at another trainer.

No, I think Paul, if he put his mind to becoming a caring trainer, his Pokemon wouldn't mind him.

Do you get rid of pets just because they're not perfect? Would you really let your cat out into the wild, when he's been with you so long, just because he doesn't do exactly what you'd like him to do? And if so, would you like me to tell you the survival rate of previously domesticated animals who just suddenly and abruptly get left out in the wild?
Do you still think it's better to release them into the wild after all that?

Oh, undeniably. Gary was a bit stuck up, but he at least didn't go around belittling his own Pokemon every time something went wrong.
The problem with Paul is that whenever things don't go his way, he seems to put the blame on the Pokemon, when it's really his fault as a Trainer. Then if things go really badly (aka they fail too many times), he just ditches them.
Does that make him a bad character? No, not really. But it's something that still shouldn't be ignored.
Sadly, he'll probably turn around after some point in the series. Then he'll be like, 'Alright guys! <deep breath> Let's go to the League. <deep breath> I'm not going easy on you, Ash. <deep breath> Yeah, best friends forever!'

Yeah I guess. But Gary was just as bad, as ignorant. I hated him. I still do. :dazed:

1. Pets != Pokemon. Pokemon can live in the wild. Domestic animals can not. They have little honed instinct, and are likely to be picked up by the pound. He wild-caught all the Pokemon he releases, except maybe Chimcar or Torterra, which were probably wild-caught by Rowan. He doesn't bond with his Pokemon unless he is going to keep them. He didn't keep Azumarill long enough to form any kind of relationship with it, and Chimchar is probably the same. Chimchar will be happy with Ash.
2. Chimchar likes to battle. It is more humane to release it than what Ash is doing, which is not letting his Pokemon battle. Instead of getting to do what they love, they are stuck on a ranch and see him once a season.

I know you guys didn't like my ideas for a Pokemon version of the Foot clan or my idea for Ash having a sister. They all seemed like good ideas and they still could be. But my main reason for coming here, is this statement. In "When Pokemon Worlds Collide", the nararrator said that Paul was Ash's opposite in many ways and i've thought of a few.
Clothing:
ASH:
Ash's clothes throught the series have had the colors: red & blue, colors that represent fire and water, which reflects his nature (He can be as fierce and uncontrollable as a raging fire, yet as peaceful and flexible as a river). Ash also sports black & white a combination that has always been used to represent balance. Which matches Ash's personality (He can be stubborn, blunt, uncompromising and self-serving, but he's also kind, selfless, clever and responsible when he has to be).
PAUL:
Paul wears black and a darker shade of blue, a color combination that has always represented darkness and oppression. And lets face it, that's Paul to a T, nuff said.
Training style:
ASH:
In addition to helping his pokemon reach boundaries they had yet to discover. Ash has always respected his Pokemon, offering them sincere praise and congradulation. As well as treating his pokemon like they were no different than him and has always treated and spoken to all of them on the level of equals. And in return for this kind treatment, his pokemon (with at least one acception) were fiercely loyal to him, ignoring how battered they are in battle and continue to fight for their trainer's honor until they truly couldn't fight anymore. Only for Ash to come up to them with a hug and/or sincere praise for their effort. And if they fail, Ash comes to them, comforts them and compliments them for doing their best, because he knew they did all they could. Also, at times, Ash is willing to put his pokemon's needs and well-being above his own.
PAUL:
Paul has always treated his pokemon like they merely possesions that he could just get rid of and never once took their feelings into consideration. He also seems to govern them with fear and intimidation.
Anything you guys want to add?

Ok, today was the first time I ever watch Diamond/Pearl and I dont think Paul is a Gary ripoff.
Gary didn't bash/abandon his Pokemon he just had funny zingers about Ash and his Pokemon. From what you were able to see in the anime he was a good person. He was just extremely competitive and always wanted to be the best, whereas Paul was just pretty much an a-double crooked letter to his Pokemon and Mr. Ketchum.
Gary had awesome hair.
Gary had cool cheerleaders/groupies
Gary had an Arcanine & Umbreon..enough said!
Paul looks like a flamming homosexual (IMO)
