How about a Welsh Corgi (http://www.pembrokecorgiclub.com/images/txt/corgipuppy.jpg)? They're very small dogs, and they're absolutely adorable. They're one of my favorites.

That doggie is teh cuteness. x3

I'd get something with short hair, less to go through when you brush, hehe. I like small dogs too, they seem to be all the more cute. :3

I like, min-pins (http://www.dolphinstreet.com/uploads/pincher_smaller.jpg). They small, short haired energetic dogs. They're fun to play around with. :]

It really depends where you live. You're not going to have a Husky down in Texas are you?

I'd go with a Husky (http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:eUHhGEgtDmLfFM:http://www.huskamute.me.uk/images/Huskamute%2520804%2520lo.jpg) (As long as you do't live in texas <]=P). Here's a puppy (http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:8zOoxSx5oFjW1M:http://www.hickerphoto.com/data/media/25/husky-T0868.jpg)

I think they're cute and maybe someday I'll get one.:ermm:

EDIT: Get a Yorkshire Terrier (http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:J1Ej67sxBk64xM:http://www.pups4sale.com.au/yorkshire_terrier_pups_03a.jpg). Those are small and cute dogs.

(Thanks Mario for ruining my plans of getting a dog when they found out how big a Husky actually grew)

He said his mom wants something small, and huskies grow pretty big.

Anyway, how about a West Highland White Terrier (http://www.flickr.com/photos/westieplace/1467113997/)? (Westie for short.)

Heh, I personally love Huskies, but since you said something small, then may I recommend a Miniature Dachsund (http://www.dyrarikid.is/gallery/gallerymyndir/t0118815.jpg)? Or even a Welsh Corgi as Megumi suggested. Cardigan Corgi's could also be an option, though I'm pretty sure they grow slightly larger.

And if I'm honest I wouldn't really go with Terriers. Their frickin' nippy and yappy. But then again, that's just me. :P

Aww, how cool. ^^ I can help you-I've read a gajillion books on dogs before.

The australian terrier (http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:un69KD3h4DHbhM:http://www.puppydogweb.com/gallery/australianterriers/australianterrier_harvey.jpg) is a small dog that can live perfectly well in the city. It doesn't need long walks and fortunately, it doesn't suffer from the common health problems other dogs suffer from (ie, hip dysplasia).

The bichon frise is very cute. ^^ (like Pichu_master123 said.)

The cairn terrier (http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:DmJWUmI9Rg99EM:http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/817/602327.JPG) is a small dog that needs tons of excercise....seriously.

The chihuahua is the world's smallest dog and probably the hardest to take care of. Honestly, if it jumps off a bed or something it can get a bone fracture. And that's sad.

The cardigan welsh corgi (http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:ro1QB9qUDkUrSM:http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/794/90023934.JPG) (the corgi with the tail) is more serious and much tougher than the Pembroke welsh corgi. It gets tasks done if you need them done.

I have a pembroke welsh corgi (http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:Mg6KUDwUV_3SpM:http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/946/60004840.JPG). He loves absolutely everybody, he loves to be included (especially outside) and he loves to cleverly trick us by slipping out the door. This breed is just an awesome dog that lives for a considerably long time compared to other dogs. If I could reccommend any dog, it would be this one! ^^

I don't have a picture, but a Boston Terrier.

Pomerania
11-24-2007, 10:32 PM
Hm, I would say get a Pomeranian. Here's one sitting (http://www.breederretriever.com/photopost/data/524/medium/pommy.JPG), and Here's one standing (http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/992/50212392.JPG)
Of course, I only say that because it's my favorite type of dog. xD *shot*
They stay small, and I think they're really cute. From my experience (as I have a pomeranian) I would say that they're easy to train as well.

Of course, that's if you want a fluffball for a pet. xD

There's also the papillon (spelling?):
sitting (http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/dogs/i/papillon.jpg)
standing (http://www.petplanet.co.uk/petplanet/images/breeds/papillon.jpg)

Another personal favorite of mine though I don't have one. ^^;
They're supposed to be smart, and they stay small.

*Squee!*

I have two poms! One's 13, the other's 2, and they're both precious! Their combined weight is less than my friend's cat, though. The younger one is as stubborn and yappy as anything, and from what I've read they're all like that when they're young. They tend to shed, though. But that's ok, because they are complete and total snugglers. ^-^

Another breed I like is called a Japanese Chin, give me a minute to find the pic...

Edit: Here's one. (http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/dogs/i/japanese_chin.jpg) Here's one sitting and actually looking at the camera XD. (http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/813/637084.JPG)

Shiba Inu (http://www.lupus.hjem.wanadoo.dk/racer5/Shiba%20Inu.jpg) ftw. :3
They're said to be sort of cat-ish. Which means they're not all hyper and in-your-face like a German Shepherd or Husky might be.
Which, judging by the fact that your mom wants a small dog, she doesn't want a very hyperactive one either. xD
They're not exactly 'small.' More medium, but... smaller than medium. *Makes no sense* xD

My mom is looking into the cavalier King Charles spaniel (http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/dogprofile.do?id=2150)

I sent her an e-mail with your posts. Hopefully, she'll choose soon.

I would go with a Beagle, as long as you can put up with a little howling once in a while.

If she wants something, get something from the pound or a shelter, its cheaper than buying a purebred, and you get to save its life.

That being said, I'd get a Labrador Retriever. They're really sweet; I just got mine in the end of August. She's such a pwnsome dog! ^.^

There is three.

The above 3 are the best choices, loyal and behaved if trained well, and they're cute.

That's such a cutie.
I own a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and a puppy will probably look something like one of these (http://pictopia.com/perl/get_image?provider_id=207&size=550x550_mb&ptp_photo_id=137582).

If we didn't have a cat (and getting another), or if my cat wasn't a wimp, we'd be getting one.
