Winter Story Competition: Snow Forts!

Who's ready for the month long snowball fight? *grabs a handfull of snow* :happy:

It's that time of year again, and that means it's time for authors to bust out their best work to win the story capture competition. So all you URPG members that have been waiting for this, time to post that story. And for those new members, check this out.

-December 1st through December 31st
Any stories posted during that time interval are eligable for this competition. None before or after that date will be allowed. There is no exception. There will be time after the deadline for final grading and to give people the chance to read them before voting.

-Only URPG members are allowed to participate in writing.

-You can write as many stories as you want but you may only submit one story for the competition. Also, your story MUST be graded and capture at least 1 Pokemon to qualify.

-Hint: Long stories don't generally do better. Quality is very important.

The prizes:

Winner- The legendary of his/her choice that is not already taken. You also get $10,000.
Second Place- $5,000.
Everyone else- A nice shiny participation pin

The current winner is Megumi whom had chosen Giratina for her legendary. If you win, she loses that legendary and you get to choose one that's available. If Megumi wins again, she gets to keep her legendary and continue her bragging rights, and possibly be the first three-peat winner! :surp:

I have a question as well. It was not mentioned at all, so I just need clarification.

During the Newbie Comp that happened a while ago (I know, it was a teensy bit of a flop, and not necessarily comparable), only certain graders who signed up could grade the stories. Since I haven't been here for a competition before, my question is: Can any grader grade these stories, or only specific ones?

Anyone can join, as long as they're part of the URPG, which I know you are. Keep in mind that your story has to pass (as in, get a capture), to be accepted, however.

Well, I want to write a story, but the problem that I've noticed lately, is that ever since I started writing (only a few months ago...about 3.5...) all the characters are exactly the same. I may describe them as something different, but when I sit down to write, they automatically drift to fit a mold for characters that is stuck somewhere in my head, and I can't seem to understand what it's like to be different from me, and it's getting pretty boring...

....If we post an unfinished story, and edit it, will people decide not to vote for your story before you finish writing it, and editing it and all that jazz? (Man, lot's o' questions and complaints...)

Not really, I just kinda have nothing to prove now. I know people think I can write decent, and I frankly have nothing to prove anymore. I think I get why that British lady wasn't so overexcited about winning the Nobel price for literature.

Right now I have two options for my story:

1) Finish my Halloween story for Gastly, even though it's not extremely exciting or amazingly-written, and it's totally the wrong season for a story like that, but it's about three quarters done and I have a better chance of finishing it.
2) Finish the story I started writing for Psyduck, Sneasel and Electrike. This one's only about a quarter done and I've only caught Psyduck so far, and Sneasel will take a looooong time to write; I know it. It also doesn't help that I'll be away from the 17th onward with limited computer access, so writing so much of it won't be easy, even though the story is MUCH better and has a much better chance of doing well in the competition. D:


Gha, tough choice! And in both stories I'm capturing a Pokémon I'm gonna trade away for some good stuff. @_@

If it's the same plot line, just post the first part, wait for a grade, then post the second part. Counts as two stories. You need to make sure to have an introduction for each since they are both graded separate and could have a different grader.

Also, after I finish it I have to edit it, so I'll need to make a note to all Graders that even after the story is not to Grade it, so I can do all the edits.

I am here to request special permission from specific authorities affiliated and corresponding to the Winter Story Competition.

As it may already seem, it is a grim fact that my capture may not make it in time. I am not complaining, if anybody asks. If I am to succeed my Winter Story Comp story expectations I planned the month before, I will have to begin pre-writing the story. I ask for that I am able to bypass the capture (Although my future story will be biased upon the results of making the capture, I am willing to add on length to the previous story, edit it and whatnot if you will), and begin on my Winter Comp story.

Certain heads of the URPG may already know of what I am capable of. I have completed many captures and stories before, and it'll be no different for me even if I restarted on the URPG.

Yes. You can, just make sure you in some way, shape or form let the grader(s) know which one you'll be entering in the WSC so theres no mix up in between the lines. Which I know none of us like, or most anyways. :tongue: (though I don't get how you could like getting stuff mixed up. xD)

I wish the due date could be extended just one day or so. I've been busy with my mom all week (I had to take her to the hospital cause she was extremely ill) and with work (they made me work more hours =-.-=) that I didn't get the time to write my story.

I'm on chapter 3 of 8 with 31,186 characters out of 55-65k characters.

I'm doing my best to write the rest but... it's already 2:43 a.m. and I'm just exhausted beyond all reason. I'll do my best to get the rest typed out now.

actually, Psychic need to do mine too. And I would like to know who told her she can't delete her posts and re-post my failed grade in Catching Beautiflies. While i was fixing it, i added a few ks, enough to not make the story fit in 2 posts. I would just like if she would drop it by one post only, so the reader wouldn't find himself in the middle of the story, stopped by my failed grade. It can be degradating, you know

If the winner wants that Legend, they have to pick a different one until the previous winner's two months are over.

If the person wins a second time, they simply keep the Legend until the WWC. If they lose that time, they don't keep the Legend an extra two months. Keeping the Legend would only apply if they lose the first time.

That way the winner of this competition gets to keep their Legend at least for the full six months, and if they lose the next one, the winner of that one will still get THEIR Legend. Fair for everyone, ne?

My plan had been to vote over the weekend. Then I'm talking to DT and he's all "yeah, uh, voting just ended today" and I'm just standing there all "wtf" and yeah.

Fifth place is pretty darn good, though. Still gotta aim higher (the winner had more than double the number of points than me, so gotta step it up some), but I think that fifth is awesome considering that not only was it originally not going to be for the Winter Competition, but it was a Halloween story after Christmas.

Nobody is in a Halloweeny mood Christmas-time. o_O
