+Season's Greetings Aren’t Always Good+

NOTE: The point of view changes a few time, watch out for that. ^^;

Ding, ding, ding the doorbell rung, loud and sturdy like an ambulance siren. Houndour came racing around the corner as if he’d seen a ghost. Charging right up till he was at the door. Was he got there he stopped on the spot. I came running down the white carpet stairs to answer the door; I knew my cousins were coming over, but golly, it wasn’t even the twentieth, Christmas wasn’t until the twenty-fifth if I remembered right. I laughed at myself for thinking such a weird thought as I opened the door.

“Hey there Ron,” a voice said as I was opening the reef-covered door. “You’ve gotten taller since we last saw you.” It was aunt Jen; she was a slim, rich looking red head. Always had some form of money hanging on her neck, whether if it was diamonds or pearls, on this occasion Jen seemed to have a diamond necklace on. Standing behind her was her husband, son, and another teen-looking person.

“Hi there, aunt Jan, uncle Steve and Rob,” I said surprised that they were here and to see another girl from the looks of it with them. As uncle Steven walked by I asked him who the girl was. He answered by saying: Rob’s new girlfriend. Rob and I being the same age, and almost look-a-likes I was surprised he had a ‘love life’ as he started calling it. “Girlfriend,” I laughed quietly as Rob and the girl walked by. She wasn’t skinny, but not big. I’d say she was perfect looking, brunette, not too skinny, beautiful face. More then a kid, or myself at least, could ask for. She also looked like a girl I had known from school, but I wasn't going to asked something so weird like that.

All four of them walked straight into the kitchen were you could smell the deice odor of something getting roasted in the oven. I followed them into the kitchen as well, finding my mom sitting on top of the marble center-table watching TV. Some boring news channel, I didn’t watch much TV. I thought it was way too negative.

“Hey mom,” I kind of yelled at her, she looked connected to whatever they were playing on the news, and when she is into something she’s almost part of it. “Mom!” I yelled again, this time she moved her head in annoyance, “they’re here.” Now she seemed to care the slightest bit.

“Oh, sorry about that,” she said in a nervous voice, trying to care, “you guys know where the guest rooms are right?” She told the group of four, they nodded except the girl, she seemed shy and quite mysterious but of course Rob was like that too. I wondered what their conversations were like. The group of them walked back down the hallway toward the front door and up the carpeted stairs.

“Need any help?” I asked them being the polite, loud person I was.

“Sure,” aunt Jen answered me. She was always looking for an easy way out, but I was just a kind of person to ask those kind of questing all the time. It got annoying for everyone sometimes.

I walked up to where she was, which was just about maybe three to five steps from the top of the staircase. I liked at her, she just grinned. We walked down the purple painted hallway and down to the rooms next to mine; they were the ‘spare rooms’ as we called them. I wasn’t sure if others called them that, but then again, I didn’t really care.

“Thanks a lot,” she finally spoke, Rob’s girlfriend that is.

“So she speaks?” Steve said intrigued. Rob just looked at him with a dumb trying-to-be-cool smirk on his face. I noticed he hadn’t worn glasses anymore, unlike me. The doctor said I had too bad of eye sight the get contacts. Which I found odd since contacts were the same as glasses, or so I thought.

After we ate supper, we did the most boring and not to mention embarrassing thing ever, family game night. My mom and dad always had this on a Friday, but they tonight a special occasion since our relatives, or part of them, came down here early. “Hey, Steve,” my dad yelled across the table to my uncle, we were playing ‘Go Fish!” for some reason, “got any twos?”

My uncle looked angry as he had to two and my dad did too, Steve handed over his cards to my father. Next it was Rob’s girlfriends’ turn, she was quiet and hadn’t talked at all since she said thanks to me for carrying the stuff up to the rooms. She looked around the table and set her beautiful crystal blue eyes on me, “Ron,” she said in a questioning voice, “do you have any sevens?” she then asked.

I shook my head in signal of not having one; she had a disappointed look on her face. We continued the night playing the game, she didn’t speak another word.

At nine o’clock we went up stairs to go to bed. I had to go to school tomorrow, but Rob and his girlfriend, what ever her name was, didn’t have to go to school, which angered me a bit. I uncovered my bed and crawled in, I could hear noises from they room next to mine, and of course Rob and his girlfriend we making loud noises. I could not believe that they were aloud to sleep in the same room, yet the same bed. “Gosh, if they don’t shut up I’ll throw them outside,” I said aggravated. I knocked on the wall real hard, “can you guys shut up!” I yelled now quite pissed off.

It seemed as if every noise in the house went dead when I did that, was that all the noise that was going on in the house, or am I going crazy?” I thought. Then I heard footsteps coming down the hallway, my door opened and my pitch black room had a small ray of light flash in.

“Sorry about that,” the girl said, “he, Rob, was being loud, purposely trying to annoy you.” She explained to me.

“Oh, well, its okay now,” I confirmed her, “and by the way, what’s your name?” I asked her, it felt weird, as I hadn’t had to ask that question for a long time.

“Rob hadn’t told you?” She questioned I shook my head again, “well he said he did, and my name is Shelly.” My eyes widened. “What?”

“Oh, nothing, nothing there’s just a girl in my school that looks exactly like you, or there was a girl,” I said, “she moved a few weeks ago.”

She walked up to me, “I am that girl.” She said as she was leaned up against my bed. Then she walked out of the room suddenly I cared about her. She had been the only person to care for me in school, everyone else either ignored me completely or bullied me. I was kind of a shrimp for my age, didn’t have much muscle. It was like my view on her completely changed from just a quiet shy girl to a nice, out spoken person.

I walked back into the room, Rob was sitting on the bed, “you know,” I said to him in a serious voice, “your just an inconsiderate jerk!” I yelled at him. He looked surprised, didn’t know what was going on at all. I walked out of the room and down the hallway back to Ron’s room opened the door and hopped next to him in the bed. “Hey sweetie.”

He was surprised to see me and half asleep, “hi,” he said in a sleepy voice, “whatcha’ want?” he asked me.

“Just wanted to see if I could stay in here for the night.” I said, he was looking for the switch to turn on the lamp.

“Sure you can,” he said finally finding the lamp switch, and the light turned on bright as lemon. “You want the bed to yourself?” He asked me, I simply shook my head, although wasn’t sure if he could see me.

“No, you can stay on too,” I told him in an uprising tone. He grinned and turned the lamp off.

In the morning, around sunrise, which I loved to watch, I woke up and looked out the window, and of course, saw the beautiful, multi-colored sun rising from the bed of the earth. It always started my dad off well and I watched it everyday I could. I got redressed and walked down to the kitchen and found the adults sitting around the center table watching the news.

“Heya there, Shelly,” Rob’s mom, Jo said in another thing to up rise my sleepy looking mood, but to be honest I wasn’t tired one bit, I slept well in that small bed.
___

When I got up Shelly wasn’t in the bed anymore, but it hadn’t looked like she left or anything. She must’ve left to go with Ron again. “She doesn’t really care,” I said to my self still half asleep and sad, “like just never stays good.” I walked out of my room and down the hall and to the door of Ron’s guest room, he was there, but by himself. I was very surprised; I’d been that a lot in the past few days.

I walked back down the hallway toward the stairs and walked down the creaking-wooden-old things, they were out of their age, but my parent kept things till they were completely and utterly used up. Even Christmas trees, we’d have it for mouth till it was turning brown and smelled bad, it got quite disgusting sometimes, actually its disgusting all of the time. I was glad I was going to college the year after that, then I wouldn’t have to stand my parents whom were aggravating sometimes, most of the time just annoying and embarrassing.

When I got into the kitchen and just then noticed I wasn’t wearing clothes, well I was, but not a formal king, just boxers and a t-shirt. I walked in then my mom looked at my with a: Ron what are you thinking!? Look, then I realized it, so I ran from the kitchen area back into the laundry room where I had appeared from to get in the kitchen. After I creped back into the room, I charged up the stairs at the speed of a cheetah. I got dressed and walked back down stairs casually like nothing had happened. When I walked into the kitchen they all looked at me this time, they giggled a bit, “what?” I said very confused.

“I’m guessing you didn’t look in the mirror?” my mom said still giggling, “You might want to go look.” So I did look, and my hair was flipped up in the shape of bird’s wings, it was a wild look, but I would’ve laughed too. I got some water and splashed it on my dirty-blondish hair, it looked well now, but not perfect. I just sighed.

“This better?” I asked as when my mom grinned at me.

“Yeah, much, much better now,” but it wasn’t my mom that answered, it was Shelly who has answered, which again surprised me for some unknown reason. I smiled back at her.

“Oh, by the way,” my mom started saying, “I let you skip school today if you were wondering,” she said this all in a annoyed voice.

“Thanks mom,” I exclaimed happily.

Later, at about five-thirty in the afternoon, more of night though, we got in our big red truck, that was my families’ nickname for the truck of ours. I didn’t think all seven of us would fit in one car, but I was wrong. My parents sat in the front to set, which ironically were the dirtiest, most ripped up ones, I didn’t think they’d sit there, my dad made me drive all the time while he and my mom sat in the back or the way back. My aunt and uncle sat in the back and Rob, Shelly and I sat in the way far back, which were the cleaner and less ripped of sets, although, all the nice (well they were nice) leather sets were smashed up good, but that was just the way my parent were; kept everything till they were no use.

After we got all situated and buckled in, my dad turned the key and started the gas. Then he backed out of the gray top garage and down the driveway off onto the road. We drove off to the forest that was about twenty to thirty miles down the road. We were going to look for a Christmas tree; my family always had a tradition of buying our tree three to five days before Christmas day.

As we drove to down to the forest the landscape around us got darker and darker and darker. I noticed Shelly was looking at the sunset when the sun was going down out of the sky, like a bird shot dead. When we finally stopped all I could see was the brightly white colored snow. We all unbuckled ourselves and opened the doors on the truck. The snow was up to about Houndours thighs; I had to carry him the whole time, which was a bit of a drag. But, he did keep my warm.

“We’re going to split up,” my father said in a demanding voice, “kids with kids and adults with adults. We’ll get the axe and you guys get our little fire puppy.” Everyone nodded at him; he was a pretty big guy, no one really dared to disagree with him.

Shelly, Ron and I went off to one side of the woods and the adults, Uncle Steve, Aunt Jen, mom and dad, went on to the other side. Us, the kids had taken the darker of the two paths there was for us to go down. Shelly seemed to cling in-between Ron and I, “are you okay?” I asked, I could feel her shaking as she held onto my sleeve.

“She’s always been a little, or greatly, afraid of the dark, especially when she’s out in it.” Ron answered for her, he didn’t seem to care that she was scared. Then he stopped to look at a sign that was poorly smashed into the ground, it read: ‘Danger, be cautious when crossing path. Savage Pokemon.’ “Yeah sure,” Ron said will extreme sarcasm, “savage Pokemon,” now mocking the sign. He started to walk down the path.

“R-r-on, what are you doing?” Shelly questioned as her teeth started to chatter. He ignored her completely and kept walking, “fine, just be idiotic and get yourself killed!” She shouted to him, but again, he ignored her and kept on walking.

“Lets go,” I said to her, trying to calm her down knowing she was upset and afraid. “We have to find a tree or some fire wood, or something, we can’t go back to the “parents” empty handed,” she nodded at me, she understood that we’d look like we were slacking off, and I knew her, she wasn’t one to slack.
