Am I screwed?

hey everyone,

i've got up to the point where you get surf and the guy on the boat has dissapeared, and i need to teach a pokemon surf. But, i forgot to get the old rod in dewford, so i cant get a pokemon that will learn surf. Please help, because i guess i'm screwed and i'll have to start a new game :(

Have you gotten fly yet?
Edit: I know what you're talking about. I've been in the same position.
I think there are some Wingulls around (on land) that you can catch, and then evolve to teach surf.

What Version is this?

If R/S: Catch a Wingull around Route 103-ish.
If Emerald: Marill are quite common in the beginning of the game.

LV: Fly comes in around the 7th Gym, if he just got Surf he's probably only just beaten Norman.

I've caught a wingull but it wouldn't learn surf.

I completed the game like 8 times before and never got into this mess....

Then level it up and evolve it into Pelipper. I'm positive Pelipper can learn Surf.

That's only in Emerald Version.

Dixon: Try to refrain from double posting, but I suggest the volcanic route right before Lavaridge Town, since I believe the strongest Pokemon are there if you only just obtained the fifth badge.
