The Journey To Mt. Coronet

Chapter 1

" Grandpa, I'm ready to go now!", roared Juan.

Juan was a boy eleven years of age. Amber locks of hair fell from his head to his shoulders. Small in proportions, Juan reached about four feet tall from the tip of his muddy old boots, to the golden crown of his head.

Today was a special day for Juan. He and his Grandfather were going to travel to Mt. Coronet for the day. Juan was very excited for this day, for it would be his first day of his life to travel to Mt. Coronet. Juan's Grandfather, however, had traveled to Mt. Coronet many times, as he is a guide for tourists wanting to visit some of the many natural marvels that hide behind the mysterious entrance of the mountain.

Why had Juan not visited the mountain before? For today was his birthday!
Once a young Pokemon trainer is eleven years of age they are allowed to travel, with a guide, to the old mountain. The rules were established due to the fact that Mt. Coronet is a very treacherous mountain, filled with many strong Pokemon and hazardous obstacles. Juan did not fear though. He and his faithful companion, Hydra the Horsea, knew they were strong enough physically, and at heart, to make it through the mountain.

"Alright Juan, I'm ready to go, just let me just get some repels and oran berries!", said Grandpa.

Grandpa hastily swept up all of the necessary supplies for the journey, then packed them tightly into two back packs.

" Everything is ready, come get your backpack, Juan.", said Grandpa, as he weakly lifted the backpack from the desk, handing it to Juan.

The two eager hikers set off on their journey, now sure they had all the necessary supplies. Once out the door, the cold morning air nipped at Juan's nose as he cheerfully walked the journey to the mountain. Although Juan had never been allowed to go inside the mountain and explore, he and his friends used to always walk by the mountain on the way to Pokemon School. Since he walked by Mt. Coronet so often it, both he and Grandpa knew the way there almost perfectly.

" Well, looks like we're here. Mt. Coronet!", shouted Grandpa jubilantly.

Juan's eyes were glistening with exhilaration. The day was finally here. Excited and anxious, Juan creeped through the caves entrance. Juan had these feelings for he was excited to discover new things that are found beyond the caves entrance, but at the same time he was anxious for what adventures he might have or obstacles he would have to overcome.

Once in the cave, Juan noticed some large rocks blocking the entrance to one of the caves long corridors.

" See those huge rocks, Juan?", asked Grandpa.

" Well, this is how the professionals take care of them" exclaimed Grandpa.

Grandpa reached into his backpack and pulled out a dusty old Pokeball. He threw the ball and out came a huge, almost human like Pokemon called Machoke. Machoke had a massively powerful body, and wore a red belt, perhaps to symbolize its power.

" Machoke, use Strength to move those rocks!", yelled Grandpa.

Machoke walked proudly to the entrance, then charged with all its power at the rock. Pushing with all of its might, Machoke slowly began to heave the rock out of the way.

" Thats it Machoke, just a little more!", called Grandpa.

Almost as if he was trying to prove its strength to his master, Machoke gave one final heave, and the rock was out of their way, no longer blocking the path.

" Machoke, you did a great job! Return!"

Grandpa held out his Pokeball, and a blue light flashed from it, bringing Machoke back inside for some much needed rest.

Now that the rock was out of their way, Grandpa and Juan proceeded on their journey through Mt. Coronet. Grandpa showed Juan all sorts of interesting things about the cave. He taught him about the many Zubats that live there, and use sound to know where they are going. He showed him the rich water type Pokemon population that thrives in the rivers that go through the mountain. He also showed him the many Geodudes that often disguise as rocks here. Through it all, Juan kept an open mind, for his thirst for knowledge could not be quenched.

" Alright Juan, I'm growing famished, how about we get some lunch?" said Grandpa.

Grandpa explained that if Juan traveled down the corridor for a while he should come to a large bush full of berries to eat. While he did that, Grandpa would fish for Magikarp, and find some firewood. Juan understood what he must do and set off on his journey to obtain the berries. Juan had been walking for a few minutes now, when he started to realize the cave was getting dark. Juan reached into his backpack, and grabbed a flashlight. Suddenly, he heard a loud rustling noise. Juan franticly turned around. Thinking it was nothing important, Juan proceeded on his journey. Suddenly he heard the noise again, and a large Bronzor dropped down from a pile of rocks. Juan thought the Pokemon looked angry, so he knew the only way to get past it was to engage in battle.

" Go, Horsea!", Juan yelled.

Juan grabbed the Pokeball from his belt, and threw it out wildly in front of the Bronzor. A blue flash of light came, then his old pal Hydra the Horsea emerged from the Pokeball. Juan knew that Bronzor was steal type so the only way he could do much damage to it were with some of Horsea's water type attacks.

"Horsea, use Brine!", roared Juan.

The small Horsea shot off a powerful blast of water from its mouth. Water covered the wild Bronzor.

"Good job Horsea, looks like a direct hit!" exclaimed Juan.

To Juan's discontent, Bronzor emerged unharmed after protecting itself from the attack with a well timed Iron Defense move. Then, Bronzor began to charge at Horsea with a speedy Rapid Spin attack.

"Dodge it, then use Hydro Pump once more!",ordered Juan.

Horsea barely dodged Bronzor's Rapid Spin, then shot at Bronzor with Horsea's strongest attack, Hydro Pump. Bronzor used Iron Defense once more. Juan was flabbergasted.

"That is one strong Bronzor!", Juan thought to himself.

"Well, he can't possibly survive another Hydro Pump!", declared Juan.

Bronzor charged at Horsea with a Gyro Ball attack. Juan waited until Bronzor was close to hitting Horsea, then he made his move.

"Horsea, use Hydro Pump once more!", shouted Juan.

Horsea began charging up for a Hydro Pump; but it was too late. Bronzor charged at Horsea with a full powered Gyro Ball, sending Horsea flying in to the hard rocky walls of Mt. Coronet.

"No, Horsea!", Juan cried.

Juan ran to his Horsea to protect it from further harm. He fed it a few Oran Berries, then turned, ready to run from the attacking Bronzor. To Juan's surprise, the Bronzor was gone. Juan relaxed for a few moments, making sure Horsea was alright, and recovering from the hard battle. Once he was sure Horsea was fine, he continued on his adventure through Mt. Coronet. Juan figured that Grandpa would understand him not getting berries when Juan told him about the arduous battle he had.

"What happened!?", exclaimed Grandpa.

Juan told Grandpa everything that happened. Then, Grandpa explained that
"Bronzors are very rare in Mt. Coronet and they only battle trainers that they think would make a good trainer". After hearing this, Juan grew very excited. He knew what he must do. He would battle Bronzor again, and attempt to catch it if he manages to defeat it. Grandpa agreed with Juan's idea. But, he insisted that Juan eats the lunch that he had prepared so he was at tip top shape for battling Bronzor. The two boys quickly wolfed down the smoked Magikarp, and Horsea enjoyed some delicious Poke'Food. Now that they had finished their meal, they set off on their journey to find Bronzor.

Juan went to the exact spot that he had been when he first found Bronzor. But, there was no Bronzor to be found. Juan and Grandpa continued walking. Then it happened. Juan heard the familiar rustling noise that he heard when he first encountered Bronzor.

"Grandpa, Bronzor must be around here! That's the noise I heard last time I f-", Juan was cut short.

The wild Bronzor zoomed past Juan's head before he could even finish speaking.

"There it is, go Horsea!", shouted Juan anxiously.

Horsea emerged from the Pokeball once more.

"Alright Horsea, this time let's try using Smoke Screen!"

The little Horsea emitted a dark smoke from it's small mouth. Then, out of the darkness, emerged Bronzor with a fast Rapid Spin aimed at Horsea.

" Quick, Horsea, dodge it then use Focus Energy!"

Horsea dodged just in time before Bronzor attacked. Then, Horsea charged it's power with Focus Energy. Horsea began glowing a vibrant red color, that seemed to slice through the darkness of the cave. Juan sensed Bronzor was coming.

"Horsea use Hydro Pump, now!", commanded Juan.

Horsea launched a massively powerful Hydro Pump. It was a direct hit, and Bronzor appeared to have taken serious damage. Bronzor wasn't down yet though. It began charging it's Gyro Ball once more.

" Wait, Juan, don't attack it! If it get hits again Bronzor could take to much damage and faint. Just keep dodging it's attacks and wait for it to get tired out on it's own.", said Grandpa.

Juan and Horsea both understood. While Bronzor charged up it's Gyro Ball, Horsea used Agility to make sure it could dodge any of Bronzor's attacks.
Then, suddenly Bronzor charged at Horsea.

"Dodge it, Horsea!", called Juan.

Horsea escaped Bronzor's attack with plenty of time left.

"Now, Horsea, use Agility and make speedy circles around Bronzor!", Juan shouted.

Horsea began dashing at high speeds around Bronzor. Bronzor spun using all of its energy, trying to keep an eye on Horsea. Then, Bronzor began to slow down it's movements. Eventually, Bronzor came to a slow stop, and just floated motionlessly.

"Use a Pokeball now Juan, Bronzor is very weak!", yelled Grandpa.

Juan's heart was racing with excitement. He hastily drew a Pokeball from his bag, then hurled it at the weak Bronzor. The ball wiggled once, then twice...

I'll take this one.

Introduction & Plot: The plot was good. I don't think I've ever read anything along the lines of it. Good job.

Detail: Well, the detail wasn't as great as it could've been, because some important aspects weren't described. I'm not talking about dragging on and on about the stalagmites in the cave, but it could have been described a bit more than it was. The same goes with the grandfather, since he's a key character in the story. Bronzor, too.

Grammar/Spelling & Dialogue: I only saw one mistake. "Since he walked by Mt. Coronet so often it, both he and Grandpa knew the way there almost perfectly." <---Unneccesary "it". Other than that, I saw absolutely no problems here.

Battle & Reality: Reality hurt you, I have to say. Horsea are, well, seahorses, and as such, it's very hard for them to even stand on ground, let alone battle effectively. Horsea would've had a great disadvantage in both battles. However, the battles were believable, other than that one aspect. The second battle could've been a little longer, though, since Bronzor had the time to recover before it.

Length: Well, according to my character counter (which somehow usually gets a different number than the author did), you were a few short of 10k. However, that's not a big difference, so it's okay. ^^

Overall: Technically, this was your first story, so I will give you a break. However, when using water-type Pokemon, especially those like Horsea, try to put them in water. It's very hard for them to battle on land, like I said, and the water adds a nice aspect to the battles, such as the Pokemon being able to take a full cloak underwater. But, it's just a tip. Enjoy your Bronzor.
