Lost In The Woods
Abraham looked out upon the midsummer horizon. He was beginning to lose his patience.
He and his friends had been playing an intense game of hide and seek in the deepest part of the Blackwood Forest.
It was Abraham's turn too hide and he had been hiding for about an hour now. Finally, he decided he must set out to search for them. Abraham had been hiding in a tall tree after all so maybe they just didn't see them when they were searching. The young boy swept his long brown hair out of his eyes and leaped bravely out of the tall tree. He landed with a thud as he hit the hard forest ground. Abraham looked around all the grounds of the forest.
"George, Antwan?" he called. "Anybody out there?" his call rattled through the forest. There was no response other than his own echo.
A wave of fear and realization swept over Abraham's thoughts. What would happen if he could not find his friends? This was his first time in the forest and he certainly could not find his way back before night fall. Abraham began wandering through the forest. He knew that if he did not find some sort of place to sleep or a way back to town then he could be in some serious trouble. The forest is said to be infamous for its ferocious nocturnal Pokemon that lurk about in the night. The only company he had was his Pokemon, Vulpix. Abrahama decided it's best he keep his Pokemon out in case of an attack. Plus, he thought to himself. Two eyes are better than one. Abraham reached into the pockets of his overly large pair of overalls. He grabbed the dusty red Pokeball and began winding his hand back, ready to launch it.
"Go, Vulpix!" yelled Abraham.
He threw the small, red, dusty old Pokeball onto the dark forest soil. The ball popped open and a wave of blue light and soft white sparks flowed from the ball. When the lights cleared, there stood Vulpix. Vulpix was a small red Pokemon somewhat resembling a fox. It had a stout little body and multiple tails. Auburn fur made a fine coat around its little body.
"Come on Vulpix, you can help me look for George and Antwan" said Abraham. He grew a little more confident now that he had his fury friend out.
Vulpix nodded its head signaling that it understood what Abraham was telling him. The two friends searched the area of the forest for a long time. They searched until the skies grew dark and all that was lighting the path ahead was moonlight. Abraham grew worried again now. This was the time when ferocious Pokemon were said to lurk. He was not sure if he and his little Vulpix could fight off such beasts.
Abraham remained persistent and kept on searching. Suddenly when it seemed all hope was last Abraham encountered a cozy looking cavern nuzzled in between two cypress trees. Abraham peered into the cave.
"How about some light, Vulpix?" said Abraham as he picked up a large stick which he would use as a torch.
Vulpix tilted its head back and it started to emit a soft yellow light. It opened its small mouth and flames began to flow from it. The torch worked perfectly and soon caught fire. Abraham and Vulpix have made light!
After exploring the cave for a while they both agreed that it looked like a nice place to sleep. Abraham leaned himself against a mossy part of the cave wall and slowly began to drift into sleep. As the last minutes of consciousness left his body he saw several small green figures walking towards him...
*** Later that night ***
"Shroom!" yelled one of the green things Abraham had seen before sleep that night.
One of the larger green figures rammed with all of its might into Abraham.
"GAH!" yelled Abraham as his eyes shot open and he began gasping for air.
The green things that Abraham identified as a Pokemon called "Shroomish"had hit Abraham so hard that he had the wind knocked out of his body. The Shroomish were short and round Pokemon that strongly resembled a mushroom. They were green in hue and had yellowish spots all around their bodies. There were about ten of them gathered around Abraham. He guessed that he had accidentally chosen to rest in one of their homes.
Just before one of the Shroomish could attack Abraham again Vulpix jumped in front of him and took the attack. The tiny fox like Pokemon flew back and was sent flying into the wall of the cave. It winced in pain and let out a shriek of agony. Vulpix got back onto its feet then readied itself for a Fire Spin attack. It tilted its head back once more then a wave of fire permeated out of its mouth, hitting many of the Shroomish. All of them ran out of the cave in fear of fire type attacks which were super effective to it. All except one. One brave Shroomish stepped forward as if it were challenging Abraham and Vulpix too a battle. This Shroomish appeared to be the largest of its group; possibly the leader. It must have wanted to battle him as a means of defending its family. Abraham decided to battle the Shroomish.
"Vulpix, use Flamethrower!" Abraham yelled as he pointed at the Shroomish.
Vulpix let out a bellowing roar and a stream of bright flames were sent blasting towards Shroomish. Shroomish swiftly dodged to the left, leaving the attacks useless. Then Shroomish started performing a strange dance. It wiggled this way and that, shifting from side to side. Then out of the top of its head came a plume of a green powdery substance. Abraham could not move. He started to grow tired. Very tired. He fell back and everything was black.
*** That Morning ***
"Psst! Abraham! Wake up!" yelled Antwan.
Abraham's eyes opened slowly. He saw Antwan and grew very excited for he knew now that he could make it out of the forest with his help. Then he saw the ropes tied around he and Antwan's body. Then he realized he was in trouble.
"Antwan, what are you doing here? Why are we tied up!?" asked Abraham nervously.
"Me and George went home because we couldn't find you. Then I decided to come looking for you and these Shroomish caught me by surprise! They used a Spore attack to put me to sleep then they must have tied us both up!" replied Antwan.
Abraham thought to himself for a solution.
"Hey, Antwan? Do you have your Murkrow with you? Doesn't it have that ability, Insomnia, that prevents it from falling asleep?" inquired Abraham.
"Oh yeah, I do have it with me! Great thinking Abraham! Now if I could just reach my Pokeball." said Antwan.
Antwan began wiggling and swaying, attempting to move his hand far down enough to reach his Pokeball. After a lot of hard work, Antwan finally managed to reach the Pokeball.
"Here Abraham, you can command Murkrow. I know you're a more experienced battler than me." called Antwan calmly as he tossed the Pokeball with the little arm space he had over to Abraham.
Abraham caught the ball. Then he threw the crimson Pokeball to the cave floor. It opened and erupted in an explosion of blue sparks. When the sparks cleared, Murkrow stood curiously, examining its new surroundings.
"Murkrow, use Night Slash on the ropes!" commanded Abraham.
The black little bird Pokemon took off into a dark blur and began slashing away at the ropes keeping the two boys captive. Once both of them were free they rested for a few moments. Then they headed out of the back part of the cave where they were being held captive and into the center where the Shroomish were waiting.
"Here Antwan, you can have your Murkrow back. I have Vulpix to battle with." said Abraham as he handed the ball back to Antwan.
They both walked boldly into the room full of Shroomish. It appeared from their prospective to be an army of little green mushrooms.
"SHROOM-SHROOM!" roared the largest Shroomish.
At their leaders command, all of the little Shroomish charged towards the two boys and their Pokemon. Both sides fought viciously. Vulpix would fire waves of fire at incoming Shroomish forces. The Shroomish would take damage but they were powerful fighters and kept on coming despite the type disadvantage. Occasionally a larger Shroomish would make it through the fire and unleash a powerful attack on Vulpix. Vulpix was a very strong Pokemon too and managed to shake off damage. Murkrow would swoop to the highest point of the cave then dive at full speed at a group of Shroomish. The battle raged on until there stood but one Shroomish remaining.
Murkrow was too weak to battle now so Antwan was forced to return it too its Pokeball. Now it was just Vulpix and the leader Shroomish. The two battlers starred at each other. A knife could have cut the tension that strung the two battlers together. Suddenly Shroomish charged at Vulpix with a tackle attack.
"Vulpix, dodge then use Quick Attack!" ordered Abraham.
The small fox like Pokemon maneuvered swiftly out of the way of Shroomish's tackle attack. Then it charged at blinding speeds towards Shroomish. Shroomish was caught off guard and was sent hurdling into the hard ground. Shroomish got right back up and charged this time with even more power at Vulpix.
"Dodge and th-" said Abraham. But, it was too late.
Shroomish attacked too fast and sent Vulpix flying into the ceiling of the cave. Vulpix hit the top then was sent plummeting to the ground. It lied there limp. It began to shake. It wanted to get up.
"You can do it Vulpix! I know you can!" cried Abraham.
Vulpix heard Abraham's call. It began shaking and then if lifted a paw. Then it lifted another. Vulpix was back on its feet! Then Abraham realized Shroomish had began a Spore Attack. He recognized the movements that Shroomish made the last time he was getting ready to use the attack.
"Quickly Vulpix! Use Flamethrower on Shroomish!" yelled Abraham.
Vulpix tilted its head back and let out a mighty roar. Crimson spirals danced in the open mouth of Vulpix. Then they were shot out in a beautiful array of destruction that was sent full power into Shroomish.
"Great job, Vulpix! That was an awesome attack! I think you learned Fire Blast." called Abraham excitedly.
Abraham and Antwan examined the mighty Shroomish. It lay limp and motionless.
"Now is your time, Abraham! Throw a Pokeball at it!" said Antwan.
Abraham reached into his bag and grabbed a shiny red Pokeball. He threw it at the injured Shroomish. The ball popped open and Shroomish's shadow faded into the ball. It wiggled once, twice...
