First of all I should mention I'm completely new to generation III. (Yes, I'm a true Silver player, lol) This generation brings many new moves, and I'm already getting confused what to do. See, I started with Emerald yesterday, and my Mudkip is at level 15.
When it evolves into Marshtomp, it has the ability to learn Mud Shot. Now I don't know whether this is a good move or not. Should I learn or disable it? Moves right now are;
- tackle
- water gun
- mud-slap
- bide
So should I replace it or no?
Lol, I feel so noobish asking this, but I looked all over the net, searching for info..
some people 'break' the move used in move sets, others say it's powerful.. what to do?
Ps: I was told to post this over here..

It's a great move and pretty useful if you're against an electric pokemon.
Get rid of Bide, and learn it like there's no tomorrow!

Thanks, but isn't Bide quite powerful actually? ;p

No, it actually isn't. Bide acutally takes the damage another Pokemon gives it, and then uses it against them. It takes about two turns for the move to actually work, right. well, what if your opponent knows this, and decides that they won't attack you, they will use attacks that drop your stats. Well, you wasted two turns, and did nothing.
Now, with Mud Shot, it helps you against electric Pokemon, mostly the road to the third badge, and the third badge itself(highlight for spoiler). Well, now you get some better versatility, and a better chance at living. Plus, it will do more damage and it will almost never miss, and each successful hit, will lower the target's speed.
So, yes get rid of Bide for Mud Shot.

umm unlike in silver, in 3rd gen, it tells you what each move does when you decide to change the move with a previous one. it even tells you how strong it is and its accuracy

Thanks alot. So, mud shot is a powerful move against electric types,
but Marshtomp is partly a water pokemon.. partly ground .. so it still has advantages,
though electric beats water? ;p

Stating you played SILVER:
Your Mudkip/Marshtomp is better than a WOOPER/QUAGSIRE. Use it in a similar manner. And a TAILLOW/SWELLOW will be a very useful addition.

Actually, it still does take damage, but being partly ground helps it. See, it can learn ground moves (not sure if it learns Mud Sport, but I will adress that in a second) that give it a slight advantage as a normal water Pokemon would. So you still may get the super effective or something like that, but will it kill you, maybe not.
Now, at lvl. 25 it learns Mud Sport. Mud Sport actually weakens the power of electric pokemon. So that will give Marshstomp an even better chance of surviving.
I am not certain but, Marshstomp will still most likely die against the third bade, so it should be at least level 40 as a swampert if you want to use it as a main Pokemon.

It takes no damage I think why your thing that is because an elecric type hit Mudkip who isn't groung at all.

no electic attacks can hurt a marshtomp because its have ground like whishcash and the only move the thrid gym leader can really use to hurt him is either sonicboom or he could confuse you.

Well, hereby I want to prove you're wrong, my Marshtomp was one level below the opponent, and I easily defeated him ;p So Marshtomp was like level 23. My other Pokémons were like level 22, I used them too.
But yeah, no need to train to level 40 for the third badge ;p
