Mystery Gift on Emerald

I was wondering, how do you get Mystery Gift on Emerald? I tried "LINK TOGETHER WITH ALL" but it doesn't work.

You have to talk to the guy in the Petalburg Pokemon Center who's by the PC, and tell him the profile "MYSTERY EVENT IS EXCITING"

I still have to figure out how to use the wireless adapter :P I tried the Mystery Gift with my friend and we had no idea what we were supposed to do so we tried going to all the options and they just kept saying "Please wait..." :ermm:
