Errrr...In any case, for whatever the purpose is, we've got some fun coming up around here. It's the fan fiction's first "fic of the year". :3

So what is this again? Well it's YOU people entering YOUR fics for OUR judges to judge. Winner takes bragging rights, and probably a digital trophy or something. Watch out for more as I dish out the dirt on this contest.

Details of contest:

Contest is eligible for fics that are no more than a year old by deadline. That is, fics that were started before September of 2007 are not eligible
Judges will score these fics by their own discretion. The fics with the best average score will be named fic of the year
People who wish to enter their fics into the contest will have to register through a different thread (will be linked soon) using the form provided in that thread
During December or so, I will announce the nominees for each category. Slowly. Be sure to check those guys out! They may just be this year's winner.

There isn't really any sort of criteria as long as it follows the restrictions given above. Heck, even the fics entered in the WAR are eligible.

It would be for the year 08 actually. The reason why it's including september of 07 is to be consistant with the years afterwards. That is, for the 09 year, it would have been from September 08 to September 09.

Fics that have started before September of 2007 are not eligible. It just simply doesn't make sense for a 2008 "fic of the year" to be something from say 2004, for example.

I'll answer the questions by numerical order.
1. No, the "Other fiction" section would include original work as well. The only criteria would simply be a non-pokemon fiction.

2. No. The time limit should already be enough to limit people from entering too long a fiction. The thing is, judges need to read a ton of fics over the course of 2 months. We shouldn't have to give them even more work by giving them 50-chapter novels to read as well. With that being said, just use your discretion. If you already have a 50-chaptered novel ready to be posted, don't post it all. Post a good number of chapters (say half way or something) so you won't overwhelm the judges.

3. Errr...Yaoi IS M rated to begin with (its classification originates from the same lexicon as "hentai" and "yuri", hence making it M rated to begin with). I think what you mean is "shounen-ai", which is acceptable.

4. Not really. Something like say Aeon is good even though it's borderline M rated. Since it wasn't made this year, it is (thankfully?) not eligible to enter.

5. I'm going to assume you mean pictures to accompany the fic, which is perfectly fine. I'm not sure what you mean by refs. If you mean references, you can include the source in your fic somewhere.

That sounds more like Fan Fiction Awards, like some kind of Oscars for all kinds of categories. Having just four limits our winners and really picks out the BEST of the best, which makes the four fics really special.

2) Yes, but they can't judge their own fic, just to be fair to everybody else.

3) Entry will be done via a an entry thread. It should be obvious when judges first read the story whether it's a crappy story or not, for the most part. Simply said, the first minute of reading should be plenty enough as a screening process. If you find it to be a crappy story, you can simply tell me and the other judges that it's crap, so nobody else has to read it. If you want me to, I can probably take a quick skim of each story first before telling you guys what's crappy or not.

4) Sure. 5th category it is.

5) Yes. the second question is more difficult to answer. There are indeed way too many fandoms for judges to understand each one thoroughly. Perhaps those that are unfamiliar to the judges, the judge has a choice whether he/she wants to judge it. Should they want to judge it anyway, they will simply have to keep in mind that their knowledge of that particular fandom is limited, and judge on the criteria as though it is an "original" for the most part. Otherwise, I'm not sure on how to solve this part of the problem either.

6) I think people should only be able to enter one fic per category to reduce workload as well as people should really consider what they want to enter as their fic. As for the second part of the question, it will have to be discussed between the judges should this matter come up.

7) It should already be known that I'm doing a runner-up thing. Slow-rolling the nominees for "fic of the year" literally means that the nominees are runners-up should they not be the fic of the year.

8) Good idea. That'll be part of the process, then.

I don't see a problem with URPG stories. Honestly, it should probably fall into pokemon one-shots. The only thing that I have reserve about is that you've established the trainer's and his/her pokemons' personalities, which doesn't fit in as a one-shot. So I guess I'll use the rule of thumb here that URPG stories are eligible provided that they can stand alone without any other additional reading required, and that it would fall into the pokemon one-shot category.

There's no rule on it because this is a non-issue. You can pick say 1 pokemon chaptered fic. If you think your previous pokemon chaptered fic isn't good enough, and you make a new one, you can enter the new one instead with no problems.

You aren't limited to writing only one story here on PE2K... You can have as many as you like... And enter whichever one you prefer into the competition, yet you can still continue the other one normally. ^_____^
