Are you prepared?
Prepared for thrills, danger, and excitement?
Well, goodie for you. You get my comic instead. :P Nyaaah.

This comic started out as a sprite comic, but I've decided that I will no longer do it that way. I only have 2 so far, but here they are:

So read an' review, 'kay? :P
Draft Cover Page (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y22/Shuko/Cover1.png)
New (Current) Cover Page (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y22/Shuko/TitlePage.png)

Comic 1: Meet the Cast (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y22/Shuko/PeteMerwin2.png)
Comic 2: Meet the Cast - Part 2 (http://img293.echo.cx/img293/3383/petemerwin37sj.png)

Any resemblance to persons or characters either real or fictional is purely uncoincidental. It is advised that the reader understand that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so no complaining, you Aussie git!
If I find that anyone steals the crappy sprites, backgrounds, or images used in my comic (or any of my other artistic works' products) I'll hunt you down and bash you good with a cheese log!

Anyway, this is the first (and if God is merciful, the only) installment of Pete Merwin: The Croconaw Hunter...

So read an' review, 'kay? :P
T_T but I wanna see him wrestle some Croconaw...

LOL that was absolutely hilarious. Great job! You should really consider a second installment.

Only downside is how the sprites get pretty distorted once you stretch them.

Thanks, guys! Well, I've decided that I hate the way it's all pixely from all the resizing of the sprites. So I've decided to do any and all future versions in Macromedia Flash. :) I'm going to keep the backgrounds the same, but all the characters and speech bubbles I'm going to draw in Flash. You can see below for an example of what I mean. I took one of my Pete Merwin sprites and drew it in Flash. Whaddaya think? I think it looks a lot better this way. :) I'm going to redo the cover, and when I do, I'm going to replace the old one. The first comic will remain the same, though. Let me know what you guys think!

Wow... did you actually draw that, or did you just do something to it in Flash to convert it to that?

I'm impressed :P Your comic is excellent. Welcome to the forum by the way

Drawing in flash is super-easy if you already have a rough sketch or even just a sprite to work with. There was no automated way to "convert" my sprite to a drawing, but there are cheaters methods. :P You can draw lines in flash so easily it should be illegal. And all I did really was put the sprite on one frame, and then using the onionskinning tool, I drew the drawing on top of it on the next frame. It's like tracing, only better. Anyway, not all my drawings are likely to come out as strong, but flash makes drawing so easy that they should all look much better than the crappy blown-up sprites I have in my comic now. :P Really though, the only challenging part of it was the shades and highlights. It was hard sometimes to estimate what would be a good shape, since all I had to work with initially was a bunch of blocks of color, lol. Anyway, that's it in a nutshell. Too bad. You made me give away my secret, lol. :P

I suspected as much... I never used flash befdore, so I assumed there was some special method that you could do in flash... eh... I cpould do that in PS... I am just too lazy though XD

Hi guys! Sorry I haven't updated it yet. Updates will be sporadic at best. :P I have to work, and it takes up about 50 hours of my week, so sometimes I just don't get to draw as much as I want to. But fear not! I will do what I can. Anyway, the only goodies I have for you now are a couple of character bios and a new title page. Sorry 'bout that! I'll have a new comic next time! But at least the art will give you a glimpse of what you can expect in the comic itself. Any comments?

Pete Merwin:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y22/Shuko/PeteMerwinFlash.png
Pokemon extraordinaire and reptile enthusiast, Pete is a rather boisterous fellow, often popping out of places in the most unexpected (and sometimes uninvited) ways. He has a keen eye for spotting pokemon, that is, until he has one in his sights already. When he finds a good one to talk about, he will often become oblivious to everything else around him - a trait that often brings him trouble. But as he says, he loves the danger and excitement of the Pokemon kingdom as much as the art and beauty, so he wouldn't quit this business for anything. Together with his "faithful" companions Dingo [Not shown] and Bongo, he has made it his mission to educate the world about Pokemon.

Bongo the Croconaw:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y22/Shuko/croconaw_title.png
Bongo is the first pokemon that Pete ever caught. He's been with him for quite a few years now, and is actually over forty years old. The Totodilians have long lifespans, and he figures that - coupled with Pete's often reckless behavior - will ultimately result in his outliving his master by a good margin. Despite his age, he is unfortunately rather poor in battles, as Pete rarely took the time to train him while growing up. Nevertheless, when Pete has the presence of mind to let him out of his Pokeball, Bongo can be a force to be reckoned with - especially when Pete's the one doing the reckoning.

I don't know. I don't watch animal planet. But it would seem so since a lot of Australian people who discover animals usually end up on TV.

It's a paradoy... supposed to make you think of Erwin... and the correct terminology would be a zoologist, a type of scientist who studies animals.

Steve Irwin, actually Matthew. =P

Irwin does indeed own a zoo here in Australia, and is recognized as pretty much the "poster boy" for what he does.

I personally don't like him, but he gets the point across.

And since Shuko is an aussie, well, that explains why she made this reference in particular.

Thoughts - Woot, go aussies! [/patriotic]

*Prepares to be thoroughly clobbered by any and all self-respecting Aussies* Actually, Shuko is not an Aussie. Shuko is a Yank from Tennessee, U.S.A. :P She just happens to be a young college grad with a brand new computer and way too much free time after work. XD

And yes, of course I modeled Pete after Steve! :D I wouldn't think there'd be any dispute about that. I mean c'mon -> Croconaw Hunter.... Crocodile Hunter? Isn't it obvious? Lol. But of course, not everyone watches the croc hunter, and I don't all the time. But I thought the idea of his kind of character in the Pokemon world to be really full of potential hilarity. Anyway, I'm only about a quarter of the way through on the first comic. But it's turning out great! I hope you guys like it! I should have it up sometime this weekend, if all goes well. :D

Hello everyone! The first issue of the comic is ready! Originally, I'd intended it to be about twice as long as this, but I realized that it'll make things a lot easier if I split it up. So go ahead and read it and tell me what you think! ^_^ This one's not meant to be funny so much as an introduction to characters, but go ahead and critique me on whatever you think needs improvement. I'm all ears! ... er... eyes, lol.

Ah, I was mistaken. I thought you were Aussie ^_^

Interesting new look, and yes short. But nonetheless, pretty good.

Bongo looks awesome, althought growlithe's face could be a little better, and merwin looks a little outta proportion.

Keep up the good work though.

I gave Pete a Growlithe because I don't think Bongo's going to be a very competitive Pogey as far as battling or fending off dangerous wild Pokemon is concerned. And besides, Steve Irwin has a dog, so why can't Pete? XD
