Ever wanted to make Games? Maybe even Programs? If so, then you're in the right place. Welcome to Game Creation. Here in Game Creation, we work together to help each other make Games and/or Programs, using a range of different ways. We help each other with codes, resources, or just finding the right programs to get the job done.
If you want to join, just tell us your First Name, Age, and what type of Game you want to create (eg. RPG, Strategy, etc).

Various Game Making Programs:
RPG Maker 2000/2003
RM2K/3 is a WYSIWYG (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get) Game Making Program. Its mainly for creating RPG games (Duh). The main problem is that the Battle System is only slightly customisable. Other than that, this is the best tool for anyone who isnt familiar with Javascripts, C++, etc.
Level: Beginner
Download: Website (http://www.brunslo.com/infraticate/creation.html)
Official Site: N/A
Note: After downloading the RPG Maker, get the updates available to fix text problems.
Game Maker 5.1
Game Maker is a good tool to use, but a little harder than RM2K/3. It includes the uses of Tiles, like RM2K/3, but also includes different views. Game Maker can be used to create 3D games thanks to this, but dont expect it to be easy.
Level: Intermediate
Download: 3.5MB (http://gamemaker.nl/download/gmaker.zip)
Official Site: http://gamemaker.nl
Sphere
Sphere is an Advanced Game Making Program, but nowhere near easy. Sphere allows you to use Javascripts (Somewhat similar to C++) to rpogram your games. It allows complete customisability, from Characters to Battle Systems. Its much easier after you get used to it, but i wouldnt suggest it for anyone who doesnt at least know Basic Javascripting.
Level: Advanced
Download: 3.32MB (http://belnet.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/sphere/InstallSphere1.1-NoGames.exe)
Official Site: http://sphere.sf.net
C++
Now, unlike the others, C++ is not a program, but a Computer Language, much like Javascript. You can write Games, and Programs using C++ (In fact, real computer games are created using this Language), but it is by far the most difficult. Programs are written using C++ Compilers (There are many different kinds), but i am using Dev-C++, which includes an entire tutorial in the Help File, as well as example files. Since C++ is for writing real games, and programs, it creates a .exe File whenever you compile the scripts, allowing you to distribute your Game, or Program freely (As long as nothing in the Game/Program is Copyrighted).
Level: Lv2 Advanced
Download (Dev-C++): 12MB (http://heanet.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/dev-cpp/devcpp4980.exe)
Official Site: http://bloodshed.net

Name is Joe, I'm 21 and I like the idea of making my own games. I've always wanted to make an exciting game that I could call my own.
I would rather make a game using a program like Macromedia Director or Flash (I have been having problems with Flash however...).
Okay, I know this really isn't a game but I could make something like it that uses the same system, and could be a game. This is just an example to show what I have made:The Matrix Movie Cast (http://pirate.shu.edu/~rodmanjo/FinalProject/The%20Matrix%20Movie%20Cast.htm)
It's a little messy (Animation doesn't work when mouse is directly over the text names and you need the Matrix Font to see how its supposed to be, but I can easily prevent that from happening next time so a user doesn't need the font to see the title without seeing the stupid @ symbol). Also, I know some of Director 8.5, but I don't know everything. I'll even say that I'm more of an animator than a game designer. I have played some Flash and Shockwave games so it isn't impossible to learn how to do it using the program.
And no one was born with the ability to use Director or Flash, so there's always some way to learn how to do it. I would love to have that kind of power.

Ok, NP, i'll just add you to the list... And yeah, im familiar with Flash, since thats what i used to create that Reffing Program (I used Swish Max)... If a Flash Creator supports scripts, like Swish Max, then it can be counted as Programming (Im not sure about Macromedia Flash or w/e)...
Well, first things first; Designing, and Programming:
Game Designer: One who comes up with the plot, and scenario of a game.
Game Programmer: One who uses the ideas of a Game Deisigner, and puts them together into playable game.
I might add "Flash Animation" onto the list, but i cant decide on a level; Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced (Mostly Beginner, but some Intermediate too)...

I want to join!
My name is Gary and I am 13 years old.
I really want to create games when I grow up, so that is why I want to join.
I want to create like RPGs and Action games.
I started a gaming company that I was hoping will create games for free and you can see the website with the link in my sig. It is called Final Star. I know how to create games with Game Maker and RM2K3 and I also tried Sphere. I'm trying to learn Python so it wil be easier to learn C/C++. I have not gotten very far in learning Python since it is so herd to learn on the web, so I'm trying to find a book on it.

Ok, you're in, and i was talking to Bronislav by IM and he wants to be in the Club too...
Anyways, Kip, you should try getting a C++ Compiler. I reccomend Dev-C++, since the Help file contains detailed Tutorials on C++ Coding. Its surprisingly not much different than Spheres way of coding things, except Sphere is deisgned for games only.

I wish to join Game Creation. My name is Garrett and I am 13 years old. When I was around 11 years of age, I loved making RPGs. I used to have RPG Maker 2003 and made plenty of famous and enjoyable games. As of now, I have no clue where the games are located. But I really enjoy making Role Playing Games. That is why I wish to join.

Anyways, i'm learning C/C++ rather quickly, so i now know how to create Menus (For Programs) like File, Options, Help etc (Along with Functions, like New, Open, Save, About, etc)... I'm just learning how to put text onto the Main screen right now, and once i've learned all i can about C++ i'll try and learn how to create games with it (Real Games are created using C++)...

Sure Fair, of course you're "In" lol... And JF? Please, try to edit a previous post, rather than posting twice, or you might get into trouble with PE2K again...
Edit:
Well, as for tutorials, the C++ tutorial is in the Help file of the program (If anyones even gonna try C++ that is)... For the other programs, just ask me what you're having trouble with, and i'll answer it as best i can... I'll collect various tutorials from sites over the next day or two as well, so that if i cant answer something, you can just read and figure it out for yourselves... If anyone asks a question, that someone else can answer though, please answer... Real Game Programmers work as a Team, and help each other when they have problems, and sort it out together... I dont see why this Club should be any different lol...
After a while, the best Game Maker will become the Co-Leader of the Club, if he/she wants to that is... Anyways, feel free to ask questions...

i know how to make things, but i don't know how to turn it into a game.
Well, before you can really even start anything, you need to have an idea of what you want for a game. What should be the main objective, how will it involve the player, and what steps will they need to take to complete the game. Games come in all forms, you need to decide what form you would like to use for yours.
Then, once you have the basic idea of what you would like to do with it, then you need to know the code for whatever program you're using. If you're using something like Macromedia Flash or Director (Mostly animation programs but can be used for games), there are millions of tutorials out there, use them. I learned Director though a college course, but there are other ways to get started.
My advice: Start off with something small. Get the basics of learning how to use a click button first or something basic like that, and then start working your way up. Don't try to do something too difficult at first, you'll overwhelm yourself.
Once you have learned one programming language, all the others tend to be very similar. Both Macromedia programs have a scripting language, Director uses Lingo and Flash uses ActionScript. What DA has shown you is C++, which is another widely used programming language. Just remember that through every game and program you see, no one was born with the ability to use these programming languages right from the start, they had to be learned which means you can do it too.
Every master starts off as a beginner. All you need is ambition and patience.
I'd like to join!
My name is too embarrassing to actually use, so just call me Cody. (It's my favorite name) I'm 10, My birthday was two days ago. I've been doing game design for years, but I'm clueless on actually making them. I want to make a game like the official pokemon games, only with some differences. It takes place in a region called Martak, and there are the normal three starters and whatnot. I'm hoping to have a simpler battle system.
Umm... was I being too talkative?

Code is just the various command and if/else/while statements that instruct the computer to perform tasks given certain conditions. That's basically it.

I'm trying to find the C++ tutorial but all I found in Dev-C++ v.4.9.8.0 was a C tutorial. Is it there or am I not looking hard enough?
Thanks if you can answer it.
Zenaku
03-28-2004, 04:07 PM
C has the same structure as C++, so anything within the C Tutorial is compatable with C++...
JF, like NP said, you need to know the code... All of these programs, with the exception of RPG Maker 2000/2003, require you to know Basic code... If you dont already have knowledge of codes, you should start with Javascript, which is used in both Game Maker, and Sphere...
I'm currently making some Forums for the Club, just in case anyone wants to know. Plus, if anyone'd be interested, i might create a Team within the Club. It would consist of:
Code Programmers (Needs Knowledge of Javascript)
Resource Locators (Someone to find Pictures or Music)
Pic Editors (Someone to edit sprites, or get Tilesets)
Might include:
Cut-Scene Creator (Someone to create Cut-Scenes)
Game Artist (Draw pictures of Game Characters, etc)
If we can set up a Team, that Team would then work together, to come up with a good Game Idea, and then create it.
Let me know what you guys think of these ideas...

Zenaku
03-29-2004, 05:06 PM
Sure Cody, you can apply for whatever you want, and it doesnt matter what you do to show the skills you have; just as long as you show them lol... Anyways, i probably wont choose people for the Team until theres a Co-Leader, so that the decisions can be made easier, and correctly, since only the best will be part of the Team (This doesnt mean all other members have to leave though, lol), and if (After the Teams set up) someone can show a skill which the Team needs, they shall be added to the Team...

I just finished a game on Game Maker. It's called Blaster. You have to destroy enemy space fighters to rack up points. It's simple and most of it was trail-and-error and it toke me about 4-5 days. I know that it dosn't look awesome but bare with me since I am not graphic talented.
I have some questions to ask:
1. Can someone tell me how to stop the space ship controled by you and the enemy ship going off the map? I tried many ways to stop it but it just won't stop.
2. Can someone tell me how to get the lives to work? I was going to give you 3 lives but I never could get it to work. It would keep showing the exploding scene over and over and never would switch back to the main ship and the game would go on with out the player!
Thank you if you can help.

Ok Sidnoea, i'll add you to the list... JF, i'm trying to get variables to work for Pokemon Stats...
I have to make variables for every Enemy Pokemons stats, such as:
var hp = 20
var max hp = 20
It may seem wierd to have a HP, and Max HP, but thats just so that i can reset the HP back to normal when at a Pokemon center or something... As for enemy Pokemon, if i can get it to subtract from their HP when you choose an Attack, then it should work fine (In theory)...
Good game Kipkip, and, for the edges, just put invisible blocks to stop the Fighter Jet (I think thats what you play as lol) from going over them...

Er, I may have missed it if one was posted, but does anyone have a link to learn Javascripting? I wanna learn ._.
[Edit]
And another thing...I think the site was Bulbagarden.com or something similar, but they were making an online RPG for Pokemon, with the same battle system. It was similar to FFXI and Diablo, and whatnot, cuz you could communicate and play other online people. I can't remember if it was Bulbagarden or not, but Bulbagarden is no more, so if anyone knows what I'm talking about, plz gimme the updates on what happened to that site and the program-in-making.

I'll add you to the list Kholdstaire, and, i guess you're using Sphere, right? But then again, you might be using Game Maker... Tell me what program you're using and what you're having trouble with, so then i can help you...
TS, what program are you using? lol Each program uses Tiles in different ways...
BTW, not much to do with the Club, but a Company called AimHigher visited my school today, talking about University. We all sat in a bus for nearly an hour listening to to a guy, and a video etc. It really got me thinking about University (And College), so once i've finished School, i might take a College course on Computers or something, then go onto University (Most likely the Staffordshire University) to take the Computer Games Programming course (I'm glad Staffordshire isnt far). i'm just wondering if anyone else here might go to University (And take the Games programming course).
Hi! I was wondering if I could join. I'm 12 yrs old and want to make my own pokemon games. I was also wondering how much space the RPT takes up, cause it says that the first download takes 3h and then some! Also, do I have to download them all?

I'll just add you to the list... And, RTP takes up about 18MB (128MB combined with RM2K3 though), but the size depends on whether you choose to use RM2K, or RM2K3, really (RM2K only takes up about 20MB)... And as for downloading all of the Programs, the answer is no. Just download the one thats right for you; If you have no experience, use RM2K/3. If you have experience using Javascripts, then either Game Maker, or Sphere, would be a good choice. If you have experience with real Programming, C++ is the best choice. Just choose which is best for you...

Not using any programs at the moment. Gotta DL them first, but I wanted to know if you had any links about Javascripting because I want to learn.
Seeing as my comp is from '97 and I only have 12 Gigabytes of memory (), I have very little room for any programs at the moment, but I'm hoping I get a laptop over the summer for when I go to camp and whatnot. I want to learn j-script now so I'm ready when I get the program.
I need to look at all those program links again though. You'd suggest RPG Maker 95 for moi, a beginner?

I use game maker for it. I can't get the stuff in. Do you think it would be possible to make a pokemon game with game maker? Just a question. I also have dev-c++ but can't find the tutorial for it in the help section.

Just search on Google Kholdstaire, and TS, the Tutorial is right at the start (The second of two choices in the Help File)... As for GameMaker, you have to add a room, and use Tiles. For Tiles, you need to add the Tilesets as BackGrounds (Though i prefer making each Tile an Induvidual Sprite, so i can set transparencies, or w/e).. I'm not really on my comps account at the mo though; my brother was using it, and since i only have a minute or two online (My mom is such a pain sometimes) i just didnt find it nesseccary to switch the comp to my own account... Anyways, gotta go now, but i'll be back online tomorrow. Anymore Qs about Tilesets or w/e, i'll answer tomorrow...

Oh, well, first add a room, then add a background. Once you open the room, select the Tiles tab. The background should be selected already, but if not,
select it. Before you place any tiles, be sure that "Snap X" and "Snap Y" are both set to 16 (The grid). Then click Tile Settings, and put in these settings:
Tile Width: 16
Tile Height: 16
Horizontal Pixel Offset: 0
Vertical Pixel Offset: 0
Horizontal Seperation: 0
Vertical Seperation: 0
Horizontal and Vertical Seperation have to be set everytime you Open the Room (After closing it), since it resets to 1 (This messes up the Tile placements). Hope that helps.

Ok I don't get how the backround thing works. And i can't find the place where you change tile settings. This probablyu sounds really stupid.

Sure, you can be whatever you want, as long as you're good at it (For example, theres no point giving a fly swatter to a fly, or he'll just end up swatting himself, lol)... Anyways, if anyone would like to help with a little project i'm currently working on, just state so here and i'll explain the details (Though you might already know about it)...

Eh, i dont mean the following to be rude, but you might interpret it to be.
Read the rules, please. You seem to be spamming left and right; Triple posting in your own thread when you dont get an immediate answer; Bringing up 4 Month old topics, etc. People reply to threads when they see them, not before, so be patient when you ask a Q (It might take days sometimes) and check dates before you post in a thread. It's not right to post in one over a Week old, let alone 4 months. If you carry on, a GMod might have to ban you. : /
Forum Guide (http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28)
Please read the Guide, cause i don't like seeing people get banned, especially when they don't know they're doing something wrong.
Well, this threads pretty much dead, though the links are still good. Could a Mod please lock this?

DA, an idea: After this thread is locked, make a new thread for this club and collect active members, because I would have liked to have been a member of this club if it was active >_<
