_-_/\/.:.oOxX-> ~ The URPG Newsletter ~ <-XxOo.:.\/\_-_

History of the Newsletter: First founded by [Fair] as the "PE2K Times" {See thread here (http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2405)}. the "Times" was a way in which Fair was able to keep the members of the URPG informed and up to date in what was going on around the URPG, and while he was at it, did so in a highly entertaining way. Eventually the Times gained so much popularity that he was able to move it forum wide, no longer keeping it exclusive to the URPG, but instead to the community as a whole. Unfortunately, the PE2K Times eventually died off and was not seen again. That is, until about a year ago. When former URPG leader Jack gave permission to one particular idiot to try and bring it back into existence... that was a year ago folks...

Nonetheless I'm here once again to try and bring it back, starting once again, inside the URPG...

~ Editor in chief.

Goals: Among other important hopes and dreams, the staff here at the URPG Newsletter hopes to promote the URPG and its interest through entertaining yet informative reporting on events while at the same time providing rewards and prizes to those already dedicated to this 'movement' of sorts. This will be accomplished through several actions and activities that will be conducted on site by the friendly, hilarious, yet highly professional staff here. Or So I continuelly tell myself.

URPG Skills Section:

Battler of the week: An award given out to the best of the best when it comes to skill in a duel, given out to those that with the most wins in a week, this reward serves to recogonize excellence in those that engage in one of the most important fuctions of the URPG, battling.

Story of the Week: For those that prefer to study in the art of the pen rather then the sword; this award is given out to the author of the best story of that given week. Recognizing those that help put more Pokemon in the hands of trainers.

Coordinator of the Week: Another award as you may have guessed, designed for those evil spirited trainers that would dress their Pokemon up and make them perform in front of an audience, much like a dog show. That is, of course; in direct contrast with the purpose of Pokemon - world domination :(

Mart V.I.P: This reward is given out to the person who spends the most amount of money inside the Pokemart, trips to the underground and daycare do, unfortunately, do not count, meaning you can be a miser and still reap the prizes in.

Pokemon of the Week: Once a week a random (or at least we'll pretend it's random) die will be thrown and a Pokemon will be chosen to represent the Pokemon race as a whole for an entire week, those lucky trainers who happen to own that Pokemon will reap a terrific reward.

News Sections:

URPG News: Wondering what is going on around the URPG? Confused because you've come back from an extended absence and can't seem to catch up on everything that has happened? Well have no more fear, or maybe a bit more... I dunno, because from now on the Newsletter will be reporting on all the happenings around the URPG. From the current 'hot topics' in the URPG Chat and Reffing FAQ to gym battles and tournment standings the URPG Newsletter stands to keep the average trainer in the know with all of the above and more, including interviews and up to date links on all important information.

Other News: I know it's hard to believe sometimes but there actually is a forum outside the URPG, and unfortunately, if you are anything like me, you have no idea what's going on in it. Well, that's alrigth because our staff will be reporting on important events suck as the now seasonal 'MotS', current topics in the Daily Chit Chat, and of course we'll be keeping you informed as to who is steaming up the "What do you Look Like thread" (AKA yay for corny dialogue). Other topics include: Pokemon events, wifi wars, Rp and fanfic summaries and info on current Mixed groups and graphics artists.

Tips & Tricks: Having problems with writing or battling? Can't figure out the proper way to place a comma, or take out that pesky Crobat lead? Well from time to time we hope to offer you 'the tips and tricks' of the trade as brought to you by the very best in their respective fields. Whether it's the current head grader providing assistance on writing, or the current E4 champ providing tips on how to bluff or counter your enemies.

Comix: Think you are funny? Got the material to prove it? Send it over and allow us here to post it for you and find out if others agree with you. Whether it's a simple comic strip, or a standup routine, we'll do our best to provide the best laughs week to week, as you struggle to figure out which our members are the funniest and which are just flat out....flat....

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* ~*~

To the people of the URPG, as you can see, this is but a rough start to what we hope to do here, for the time being applications will be up and position will be denoted by our "XXX" in our staff positions. If you have ideas, comments, or just want to apply feel free to post accordingly, and remember our goal here is to provide entertaining, funny yet informative news on whats happening both in the URPG and greater forum.

And no, unlike the above, humor will be injected into our newscast, I just thought it best to remain serious for the most part although if you noticed I did take the time to maim coordinators around the URPG. Also, newscast will be considerably large, just as a forewarning to those that wish to become a part of the staff. See [Fair]'s link to get an idea, and keep in mind that was one of his smaller ones.

Application form:

Corny dialogue ftw.

Name: Christophe/Libra,
Editorial: Preferably the Pe2k (Other) section. Or Comix. Many aim logs prove that I am capable.
Experience: Back in when I first joined, I wrote quite alot, and yeah, just wrote about random stuff. Long gone now, and I can't find links. I'm quite active on the other forums, so I know whats going on. And unless I have to make this longer, I'm done. And for Comix, my AIM logs, and general stuff around the forum prove that I am capable.
Activity Level: I'm on about 26 hours a week, and quite active on weekends.
Reason we should hire you: I bring the spice to...spice.
TigerintheArk (5:29:01 PM): See? told you I couldn't keep genders right.

I randomly tried out, I had nothing better to do.

Reasons why we should hire you: I'd love to do this. I'm dedicated, loyal, and hard working. Plus this is something I wanted back for months. And I'm cool 8D

Editorial: PE2K (Other) Editor
Experience: I know things about PE2K, and I have contact :P
No, well, I like writing and I think that I can do a good job for this. I actually used to edit the old newspaper in my school for three years in a row ^^
As for the subject, I actually do know people who know the secrets about URPG and PE2K. But other than that I also know most of PE2K in and out.
Activity Level: Mostly on, but during school maybe only 3-4 hours...
Reason we should hire you: Because I am different, I don't just write what we are meant to write, I go over that boundary. I write more than that is expected and I write it well. And my spelling/grammar is usually perfect.
(Gosh that is so vain!)
Well, yeah, I also think that I have some ideas for the newspaper already.

Experience:
I do a lot of writing, whether you’re looking at Pokémon, other fanfics, poetry or my own original work. For three years I have been a member of the Writing Squad. Writing Squads are unique to Wales, and you can read more about them at this (http://www.everybodywrites.org.uk/projects/details/writing-squads/) doughnut.

Activity Level:
Usually online every day except Friday, and I’ve always got at least one window open on the URPG.

Reason we should hire you:
Because I said so. Besides having all & more of the necessary grammar skills, I'm honest, hardworking & I’m an interesting person. I’m also vain. I’m confident - I’m prepared to point out other peoples’ mistakes. For example, you spelt ‘continually’ as ‘continuelly,’ and the second ‘the’ in the History of the Newsletter section should have been capitalised, Mr Editor-in-de-Chief. Maybe it’s not wise to point that out, but it’s an important factor if we‘re going to be literate. J (zomg!11!1!!1! MAYBE WUZ DeL1bER8 M1ST4K3!LIEK OMG! I pwn, nyah, nyah [/foreign language])
However, I do know where to toe the line between cheekily noting things like that and being downright naughty and badbad.

Okay I'm a bit confused as to whether you mind applying for the actual staff positions or the individual pieces. I'll do both if you don't mind

Name: Dap
Editorial: (That you wish to write up) URPG Battles/Tournments Editor or URPG news Editor or if I can't apply for either of these then I'll do Battler of the week
Experience: (Both writing in general and the editorial piece you'll be covering) In the URPG I think I have submitted an article for this newsletter before to Fair but I can't remember if he put it in. Battle-wise and tournament wise I have experience. Outside the URPG my degree at university is English, so yeah... I also write for a student magazine. I have written tv scripts for a scheme within my old school. I have written stories and fan fics- albeit at the moment not that regulary.
Activity Level: (I.E how often will you be on): I'll come on at least once a day for a certain period of time- more than that is difficult to promise as University will start soon- but I should be here enough to do this.
Reason we should hire you: I know what I'm doing and I feel I can contribuite something aswell as keeping me on my toes literary wise outside the internet. Also- take a look to your window. Do you see that laser dot on the glass. Walk up to it and take a look at the house down the street. See the slightly open window? I guess that's sorted then!

Activity Level: I try to get on as much as possible, which is roughly 1-5 hours per day. :p
Reason we should hire you: Because you owe me for taking the "_-_/\/\.:.oOxX->" and "<-XxOo.:./\/\_-_" from my URPG stats thread title without permission. XD You can take it though. :p

Okay I'm a bit confused as to whether you mind applying for the actual staff positions or the individual pieces. I'll do both if you don't mind

You'll be assigned individual pieces depending on the staff job you apply for. I.E URPG Battles editor would be in charge of "Battler of the Week" and any news that goes on in that section, whereas the "URPG News" editor would be in charge of reporting on anything happening in the URPG Chat, FAQ and Trainer Court.

How about "A Flare of Advice" column o/

Sounds catchy.

I did ask you, but it was for my stats (which I never changed), not this.

Reason we should hire you: Active, funny, could add a lot of twists. Plus I'm loyal and trustworthy. I could work well and I can push myself over the limit for writing these editorials. I could also make it original and hilarious for people to get a good laugh for the newsletter to be better.

Editorial:Tips & Tricks/Other Forum News

Experience: Way back when I was a nerdy eighth grader, I used to write articles in the school's newspaper in one of those "Advice Columns". It was called "Ask the Crystal Ball". I've taken Honors English and Creative Writing, and passed with grades no lower than 90's. I've written a couple stories, but I generally don't do them because they take too long to write.

Activity Level:School's started, so I get on every weekday from about 8pm-11pm central, give or take some time. On the weekends, I sign on at about 8 or 9pm and stay on majority of the night, sense I always sleep during the day. But normally you can catch me on a Saturday afternoon at about 3pm. Only times I'm not on Friday/Saturday nights is when I'm out.

Reason we should hire you: I should be hired because I take some time and care with the work I do(even if it's for something like a forum), considering it affects other people. I triple check everything, including accuracy of the information, grammar, format, the works. Not only that, but it's about time I help the URPG in a way other than just reffing. When it comes to for the tips on battling, I've done it for a long time outside of URPG, and found that at least 90% of what you do in any other game applies for URPG, excluding things like Night Shade, considering all pokemon are level 100.

God, she has to get the job.

Er, question...

Supposing we can't get the article done, what happens? I can get my assignment for the first issue done lemon-squeezy, and I'm sure that'll go for most of them, but what happens when RL (yesh! it exists! liek omg!) interferes for an issue? Do we lose our jobs? *ohnoes! you cant fire me! i have three little children to feed!* <-- No I don't, but you get the point.

SiberianTiger

Alright, a few things.

Deadline for first issue:
Some people have been asking and truth be told I'd like to get it out as soon as possible. We have some articles and such already written up and getting help on those we haven't yet. I'd like this to be done in an orderly fashion as much as possible rahter than just have random releases., therefore look for the first issue to be either within the next few days, or more probable, the first of next month.

So, probable due date for first issue right now: 1st of next month. Gives us a little more than a week to refine and get everything down. We should be well ahead of that deadline though.

Job Security:
Once you have the job, you have the job. Unless you no longer want it, or you really do suck at it to a horrible degree I'm not going to fire you. If life is getting in the way, let me know and I'll get some help on it. Otherwise the most that would happen is I'd hire or assign another person to help out with it.

Staff Positions:
Going to be posting soon as to who has got what and sending out PMs of what to do.

Alright Staff positions and jobs!

Libra-Nator gets Comix.
Silver Skarmory gets PE2K (Other)
AmericanTreefrog gets URPG Contest
And I need to talk to Berry :o

Tyranitar Trainer & Trainer 17:
Since the both of you applied for Pokemonster of the week, what I'm going to do is have each of you roll for one, people will get money for each Pokemon picked, and on top of that, you both will write a small article on while the Pokemon you rolled, is better than the one the other rolled. Not too long, preferably funny, you know the drill.

Assuming you both still want the job and are up to the challenge, go for it.

Dap & MagicKid:
You both wanted the Battles/Tourney section, so what the two of you can do is decide between yourselves, who will do: Battler of the Week, A small standings on the Tornado Tag Tourney, and then a small article you both can do together or something about how the battles today seem to be playing out or something along those lines.

As with above, if you are up for it, go for it.

Libra:
You are on Comix, get some material up and PM it over and we'll see what we can do.

NoaN:
You have Mart V.I.P, I'll PM you with instructions.

Flare:
You want your advice column up and running you better get started.

Skullz:
I know MM is currently working on a Rant, you might talk to him and see what the two of you can come up with.

~*~*~*~

As for everyone else, hang on, I've got more stuff to post, hopefully for all of you.

To those mentioned above; remember that once you've done what you need to, PM it to me first so I can look at it and insert into the issue.

~*~*~*~

Edit: Remember that our deadline is the firs tof the month, some for some of the stuff such as stats for Battler of the Week, ETC, I'd prefer you do it close to that timeline extending about a week back, so we have accurate counts.

Thanks

Think it'd be possible for you to do a sort of rundown on Fanfics and RPs? Like a what's hot, what's not; sort of deal?

Just a minor detail I've become aware of, I might be getting this house and moving in by friday, and if that does indeed happen, the posting of the Newsletter might be delayed a day or two until I get hooked up.

Just don't panic =p

Wow, this looks pretty neat :3

Just one question, where will you be posting the newsletter? In the General Board. And if so, what will we do witth the older issues. We should be archiving them, I suppose. Say you sticky the current issue and just unsticky the older ones and leave them in the General board, that'll make the board really cluttered :x A seperate board for the newsletter would be good imo, but I don't think we can get one cause Ryan's so inactive. What do you think, ST?

We could archive older issues on Proboards :x. I mean, as new issues come out, we can Stick them, and as older issues are unstuck we just leave them in the General Board, but also put them in a Proboards archive. That way they don't get bumped down by other stuff, and if issues need to be deleted here, we still have them on Proboards ^^.

For the first issue at least, it'll probably be posted here and then I'll simply post links to that post around the URPG. As for archiving, I'll put the link in that reserve post I have.

At least until something else is thought of.

This is so awesome. I'm glad to see that the idea of a URPG newsletter lives on! I hope you all have some fun with it, and I wish you the best of luck! (I can't wait to see what Issue #1 looks like!)

=O But you dun really exist! Legends aren't real, mummy says so!

All hail Fair! He's our god - and one who is probably really freaked out at my speech, since he doesn't know who the hell I am.

But, seriously, are you staying?

Heh, you can make your own thread for it. That way you keep this thread for actually producing the newspaper.

Heheheh...you're too kind, lol.

Will I be staying? Well, that's a tricky question...now that school is back in session, my free time has completely disappeared... I do try to check the forums every once in a while, though! So, at the very least, I'll be lurking.

I hope so, it would be nice to get some feedback on some of the issues.

Anyway, already talked with Harry, which is why this is still stickied. Don't worry, will still be going ahead with this, just got some real life issues to deal with, as well as some forum ones.

Like I said, though told Harry I was just playing the waiting game.
