What do you like about these versions: Old RBY pokemon rocks, especially the legendaries=cool & powerful. Greatest storyline. Greatest original music. The only thing sux is the graphics, but they got improved in FL. so FL is a must-buy IMO :)

Teams: Blastoise, Articuno, Raichu, Hypno, Dugtrio, Primeape
how do you beat brock on yellow version: This is easy. Catch a Mankey in route 24. Train it to lv 9 and learn Low Kick. Low kick is a fighting move which is super effective to Rock types.

This is my red version team:
Blastois lv 40
Arbok lv40
Kadabra lv40
Fearow lv40
Flareon lv40
Raichu lv40

I love my red version. I decided to give spphire a break and finish my red version.

Hehe.. I always caught a Caterpie, evovled it to Butterfree at level 10, where it learns Confusion.. Then it could beat Brock easily :)

lol, not hard to beat Brock on Yellow. Near the Vicotry Road, you can catch a Mankey, whos fighting moves are super effective against rock. Train it to like level 10, carry a few potions, and Brocks easy. =P

My Red team was: Charizard, Snorlax, Pidgeot, Raichu....I cant remember the rest of them, lol. I'll edit if i remember later.

Blue: Dewgong, Charizard, Vioplume, Snorlax, Fearow, and Raichu.

Uhh... I'll admit that's true... But you can have traded Pika by then and evolved it on another cart. That's the only thing that could have happened, seeing as you can't evolve it on Yellow.

in the original blue on any color handhelds everything is blue, on red the same thing but everything is red in yellow the colors change depinding on where you are, pallet town is green so are the roads pewter is grey so on and so forth, the new games everything is colored which is awesome im glad they redid the old games but they needed it to be able to trade with the old games so i could bring my team into the newer games which would have been so awesome. . .ok that was fun for a first post

The reason why that will never ever happen is the new games involve Nature, EV's, DV's and Abilities. The old games dont.

My team on red:
Charizard
Venusaur
Blastoise

Thats it, I beat the game with these three.

Yellow:
Tauros
Lapras
Nidoking
Jolteon
Ninetales
-nothing yet-

Firered (wrong chamber but meh):
Dugtrio
Primeape
Vaporeon
Arcanine
Clefable
Venusaur

I use too many OU's... If I could download NB I'd be using nothing but UU, ingame they're hard to raise though. Especially stallers, it would take decades to get them to level 100.

The first two to post get added to my buddy list.

When I was about to beat Brock,I had a Butterfree,a Pikachu(DUH!! ),a Pidgeotto,a Nidorino,a Mankey.

I defeated Brock's Geodude with Mankey's Low Kick and Brock's Onix with Butterfree's Confusion

I'm wondering how most of you guys play. Do you make a balanced team and keep their levels about the same? Or do you plow through the game with one Level 100 Pokemon (probably a starter)
I personally make a well-balanced team..

!CeMAn
08-05-2005, 01:18 AM
I plow through with like 2 or 3 high level pokes, usually my starter and 2 or 3 others i pick up. I use the other slots in my party for HM slaves. Farfetch'd is a good one. The game is just too easy to bother with more pokemon than that. Waste of time. Some day i should try going through and keeping my pokemon at low levels just to milk some aspect of strategy.

k if any one is out there... i have a little question to ask about yellow
i havent played it in years and i picked it up recently, forgot how addicting it is!!

so is it at all possible to be on the S.S anne while its moving? because i know that as soon as u get cut from the captain you can leave nd it will depart.
but whut i wanna kno is can u be on it while it departs?

thx if anyone could answer me

!CeMAn

I don't think there's any way to do such a thing. You could make it never leave, i think, by trading a pokemon that already has cut. You wouldn't even need to go on the boat at all.

I'm pretty sure that's the most mischief you're gonna be able to cause with the SS Anne.

Pigeot: 100
Kabutops: 94
Mewtwo: 87
Pikachu
Alakazam
Articono

This team is the best I ever created, I battles many of my friends and whooped em! Sadly I know my pikachu was the weakest, but my Pigeot seemed to lvl up really fast as well with other bird pokemon I had. My friends saw this and let me take care fo their bird pokemon for a day and so on.

You have to go to Cerulean City ( is it spelled like that??) and then go east. Keep going east, and when you can, surf on the little strip of water, and then you should be there.

you know, i had victreebell the last time i played blue, and i didn't find it very useful. mind you, i raised it diligently from its bellsprout days and leveled it up just as well as the rest of my pokemon, but it didn't hold out very well against the elite four.

That's actually really cool LOL Must've taken loads of patience
I've always caught a Nidoran male and trained it 'till it learned Double Kick. Recently I'm doing Nidoran female just to make a change.

In all the games in general, I'm very anal about keeping my starter pokémon at all times... like it's an obligation. And doing my best to never teach it any HM's. Though, in Ruby/Sapphire, it's practically inevitable... I imagine the same for Emerald?

will since you start with pikachu in yellow its really not affective so catch a caterpie make it so its level 12(butterfree). maybe you should catch someone else to like who i caught pigey. u said u wanted to see my team so i had :

#1 pikachu lv 14

#2 pigey lv 10

#3 butterfree lv 12

so the really important guy here is butter free so make sure he is a level more than nine so u have a butterfree

That is considered double posting.
Triple posting is just posting 3 times in a row.

I have the same problem with my Blue Version cartridge. It's worked for so long, got it when it first came out. Now, all of a sudden, you can only start a New Game, as if you had just bought it. It's pissing me off but I'm having so much fun with LeafGreen and everything else, Red and Blue seem so boring now.

Could Missingno. have anything to do with it? If you use it way too much, can it mess up the game to a point where it can just not work as it should? Lord knows I've used Missingno. millions of times on Blue over the years, I'm starting to think it's finally taken it's toll if it is possible....

Whoa, I REALLY hope that doesn't happen to me. I've encountered Missingno. a few times on my Pokémon Red cart (Not for the item glitch, just pure fascination  ), and now the game starts to mess up in the middle of battles and Hall of Fame recognitions. It used to happen extremely infrequently but now crapdowns like that are fairly plentiful: I've barely touched my Red cartridge recently as a result.

I didn't want to make a thread for this.

I was fighting Gary like normal right? It was the one in S.S. Anne. I beat him and then saved. Next thing I know, I get back I continue again. Everything's fine and dandy until the ship leaves. I end up getting some weird glitch and battled with Gary again. I saved and then continued playing. I threw out my starter in a wild battle. My Pokemon was completely different. Then my game crashed. I never used any cheating device and I haven't reached the Missingno place.

It's possible that since the games are a bit dated (Old, I mean. XP), they have developed more glitches. You would have to ask the people that still play their game (Which version is it?) to find out if it happens to them too. I'd say the thing's old, the battery and stuff inside is screwed up, and it should either be tossed out or given to a n00b so they can freak out over it. :3

I still play my old games and nothing like that has ever happened. I don't think glitches can develop...unless you damage the game somehow.

Ahh. Well, maybe they're just very unlucky. :3

I've seen this happen on a game where the Missingno cheat was used WAY too much (IE Maxing out EVERY item, including Key Items, HMs... so much that you can't fit them all into the PC)

I read a thread that asked about a evolution for Raichu and there is one. But he goes smaller for this next evolution. Loosely translated it's Pichu. (Pi as in the math symbol Pi) I know someone who has a friend in Japan who sends him games. Plus he worked for Nintendo. He also told me more about the original Red and Blue. There where supposed to be more pokemon than the 150, the graphics are like the Ruby/Sapphire, and more pokemon are on the way. He said there are more tha 350 pokemon over in Japan. I wonder how many more games are to come to America before we can have as many pokemon as Japan.

Er... we already have more than 350 Pokemon here... and Pichu is the pre-evolution of Pikachu, not the evolution of Raichu (this has been known since back in the GSC days...six or so years ago)...

That's really old news... ^^;

In the red version you cant catch mankey at route 2 (or was it 23) to indigo. Only in yellow.

Besides, i had enough with playing legaly. All those years I never had a gameshark. On my real game boy.

What I like about the original RBY is that it is where Pokemon began. Granted, the graphics suck compared to the new tech but I still love my old game boy color games. I get a sense of nastalgia.

My teams for RBY are all the same because they work for me. I trade the starters over as soon as I get the Pokedex and I'm able to trade between the three. With the starters, I'm able to beat Brock and Misty right away.

My team is:
Venusaur
Charizard
Blastoise
Raichu
Golem
Alakazam
(after they have been evolved from their youngest evolution of course)
Did I answer your question?

Another cool aspect of RBY and GSC is trading between these sets of games. In my games Yellow gets it's starters from Red and Blue. You can get all three starters in Yellow at Level 10. Since I already have the starters at the beginning of Yellow I don't need them. When I become able to trade between RBY and GSC I trade those level 10 Yellow starters over to Crystal so Crystal can use them for the collection. This way they are not wasted.

My team is:
Venusaur
Charizard
Blastoise
Raichu
Golem

Exactlly YES! the old games are crappy for graphics but my god they are fun!

Why do so many people use multiple legends in their game teams?
Like, do you think you're being badass or clever?

THANK YOU! Someone who actually thinks the same as me!
I'm sick of all these teams you see with a whole team of legends, whats the point, it's just no fun that way. I dont mind when people use 1 or 2 legends, but for the love of god people, try some differant combinations. I myself have never used any legends in my team really except the legendary dogs... which is a differant story:cool:

Anyway since my rant is over, i may aswell go and spread some joy around this forum

Means, instead of using FLY away from the trainer, you simply TELEPORT. Since R/B/Y only has Abra who can Teleport, everyone calls it, Abra. Lol.

Ok, so is there ANY other way to get a mew. I just got my mew erased from this kid who tried to trade it to his game and unplugged the cord and lost it for the both of us. No, i didnt allow him to do that.

Who uses lengendaries in your team?

I personally hate using legendaries in my team as I feel that they are too strong and unfair to use,
e.g. legendary vs. linoone
I dont feel that it is fair in my personal opinion.

Off topic (sorta) but I remember the first time I beat Yellow I had a level 60 something Butterfree that I used like crazy. That was the easiest way to beat Brock, Sabrina and almost every trainer I encountered. Well, I rebought the game, having sold it and regretted it, and I forget, how do you get Bulbasaur?

MagmarMan

To get Bulbasaur you have to talk to a lady in Cerulean City. She is in one of the houses. She may not give it to you right away (I can't remember why) but I know that if you beat Lt. Surge and then go to talk with her you will get Bulbasaur.

Hope that is will work for you!

You need to talk to the woman inside a house to the left of the Pokemon Center in Cerulean. If Pikachu loves you enough, she'll give you Bulbasaur.

What you heard has some truth in it. In GSC, outside where Mewtwo's cave would be in RBY there is a hidden item in the water called the Berserk Gene. Basically it is a one time use item (like a berry for example) but it activates when the Pokemon is sent into battle. It makes your Pokemon confused for 255 turns but also has the same effect as a Swords Dance. In other words it confuses your Pokemon until you switch out/faint and also raises your Attack 2 stages.

My team is:

Cloyster - L.55
Exeggutor - L.52
Flareon - L.50
Alakazam - L.54
Pikachu - L.52
Nidoking - L.39

I like the balance team method rather then having 1 or 2 high levels smash everyone in the way lol  I used this lineup 6 years ago when I first got the game and I still like them!

And to the person who said using legendaries is lame I have to agree. I hate when I see a full team of the legendary pokemon.

BTW, can anyone tell me what light screen actually does? All it says is "protected against special attacks".

It lowers the damage of Special attacks for five turns. Take for instance, a Water Gun will do half its normal damage after Light Screen.

EDIT: Here's a question: If a pokemon grows multiple levels in 1 fight (eg. Goes from lvl.5 - 10 after 1 fight) does it miss out on stats or is there no difference than leveling consecutively (5,6,7,8,9,10)?

You still gain all the original stats you would have gotten had you leveled it up slower. Going from level 5 to level 10 just means that you acquired more Experience Points than necessary for it to gain a level.

Like previously said, it'll get all of the stats. Every time that it levels up it'll have a different stat gain page (so if it went up 5 levels in one battle, it would have 5 different stat gain pages).

Focus Energy increases the chance of getting a critical hit and Mist stops reduction of stats in battle (like the effects of Growl, Tail Whip, etc.).

I'd say spend all your money on potions and sutff and just keep trying the E4 while leveling up your pokemon :) For example train 1 or 2 pokemon by only beating the first of the Elite 4, then 2 others with the second and so on. If they're not strong enough for that, indeed try Victory Road

Oh, I've beaten the elite four already. What I did was I traded them all to my gold then made one hold exp-share and challenged the elite four. They got a boost because they were traded. All lv 50 after about 2 or 3 rounds of the elite. Right after trading them back, my first shot at elite, I won.

I have pokemon yellow and silver for gameboy color, and yellow, red, blue, gold and silver on emulator. I usually train a lot of different pokemons, coz I think that's the most fun... being able to choose. Okay, today, I am getting a Gameboy Color, a Red Version, and a Blue version. Now, can you trade between the two games with the link cable? Or do you have to find an old one? And what in your opinion is the best starter to get? I'm going to name my trainers Red and Blue. And I am going to perform the Mew glitch on my games, so, how hard is it to do? And on like, and scale from one to 5, how fun would you rate it? 1 or 2 being D/P, 3 being Fire Red/Leafgreen, 4 being R/S, and G/S, and 5 being like Emerald, or Crystal.

~The cable used for Game Boy Advance game will not work with Red/Blue/Yellow. Though the compatable cable has (or can have) the same shapely connections, there is a different cable necessary. Mine is black in color, versus my grey and purple GBA cable.

*there are generic cables offered by second party companies. I have seen them offer transparent pink/purple ones*

~Starter: In Red/Blue, Brock, the first gym leader, will not have a Rock move on his party. As such, your choice in starter does not really matter. Bulbasaur worked better for me in Red Version, as Viridian Forest has loads of Weedle, saving me money on early antidotes with Bulba's dual poison. Also, Bug is effective against Poison in Red/Blue/Yellow.

~The glitch is not so much hard to do as the timing itself. You essentially pretty much have to press as though both button presses occur at seemingly the same time.

~I don't really enjoy your rating system, but I would rate it as I would rate FireRed/LeafGreen. But for the presence of the Islands, as they do not appear in Red/Blue/Yellow. I do, however, rate these games high for the presence of the Missingno. trick. Works great with the Safari Zone.

Okay, thanks for the info. But since the cable that I have will not be compatible, where can I get the right cable? Should I be able to find it at most video game stores? (i.e. GameStop, Game Crazy, EB Games) Yeah, I wanted a Machamp in my Red of Blue, and a Gengar.

Thanks for all the help I can get new to all this.

To get Bulbasaur you can also try to use Potion on Pikachu at least 20 times, and then talk to her.

Did anyone here know that you CAN actually catch mew on RBY?

Yeah, with the Mew glitch. Not in Yellow, though.

It has to love you, so have hearts over it's head, not just jumping.
If you wanna cheat and make it like you faster, keep giving it potions when its HP is full. It'll say "It won't have any effect" but it increases Pikachu's happiness anyway.

Ok, thanks. i've never seen pika have hearts over its head, but maybe that's a bad thing.:eh:

Yeah, i just tried it. the first time you talk to it after potions, there is a speech bubble over its head with a heart before the window appears. Then it reaches its arms out like it's going to hug you. hearts DO appear over its head. It's kinda cute, really.

EDIT** P.S.: you don't have to buy, like 20 separate potions. Make sure Pika's health is full, then buy one.

When evolving your starter in this game, does it add anything, except extra levels to moves.

I see no Pros to the situation

Hey guys, I have a question. Is there any way to erase the dark pokemon from the cartridge/game? I used to play Pokemon and loved it, but my dad doesn't like the dark ones/ghost ones and I don't either. Please reply soon as I can't wait to play again!

No, there's no way.
But there aren't that many Dark or Ghost types in the game. It shouldn't be hard to avoid most of them.

Dark types don't even exist in R/B/Y... nor do Steel.

Is it me or did Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres have above-average stats in these games. When I got them, they would sweep the elite four. The thing is that they are not considered uber in the latest generations

Tes, it is. You get each starter from a different person in the game. I forget where and who you get them from, though.

Bulbasaur is available in one of the houses in Cerulean City. Charmander is available by talking to the kid directly above Nugget Bridge. Squirtle is available in Vermillean (spelling) after beating Lt. Surge.

Well, Squirtle is the easiest to get since you just need to beat Lt. Surge.
And the hardest is Bulbasaur. I never knew he exact details and requirements on how to get it but I always got it with pure luck. :p

Actually Charmander's the easiest to get since you just need to talk to the kid (and getting past Nugget Bridge isn't hard).

None of the legendary trios are ever regarded as Uber in any generation. Infact, even in RBY, Moltres and Articuno were only BL, and Zapdos has always been OU. But the reason the former two are relatively unseen competitively is due to the prevalance of Stealth Rock, which seriously hampers their use, considering the 50% health loss every time they switch in. Articuno also has a terrible typing, especially since it focuses on the defensive spectrum. None are bad Pokemon in any sense, they just can't perform particularly well in the Uber environment.

Thx vellyvell.
Yes, the Missingno cheat is available in Red/Green/Blue, but is taken out since Yellow.

This is blatantly false.

Missingno can be encountered using the Mew Trick in Yellow. Note that the missingno yellow is a bit trickier than the r/b one... seeing it will freeze the game about 4 times out of 5 or so, and it can't be trained like the r/b missingno (although it can be rare candied; the exp required for it to get to the next level is simply insane), I'm pretty sure it's otherwise safe (again, pretty sure; they may well have been responsible for the mysterious loss of data I experienced one day).

This information isnt completely correct. Zapdos was uu in the pervious generations but is uu in the 5th gen. Moltres was UU in the 4th gen.

My RBY team is:

Venusaur
Charizard
Blastoise
Raichu
Golem
Alakazam or Mewtwo

I don't understand why people like missingno. It's not even a real Pokemon. It's glitched data and it can harm your game save. I encountered it a couple of times when I first started playing Red and Blue but never caught it. Then I heard that it was a potentially harmful glitch and so I was glad I never did catch it.

We like missingno and other glitches because it provides a whole new facet to the game. The value lies in exploring regions of the game even the designers haven't charted, in my opinion. :)

And no, missingno won't damage your save file (although Yellow Missingno will frequently freeze your game upon encounter). 'M, a similar glitch, will cause problems if you put it in your PC, and both will corrupt your Hall of Fame data and may cause minor graphical disruptions, but neither are known to erase save files or cause permanent damage. (Although some sources suggest .4, a different glitch, may delete game data. I've heard conflicting stories on that one.)

(Ignore anything Nintendo says about Missingno and any glitches. Nintendo understandably has a strong anti-glitch bias.)

I remember first getting Yellow when I was 11 (I think?). I was so stubborn that I defeated Brock using Pikachu, think I had him to about a level 20 before the fight. Ridiculous. All I remember about my first time is I have Pickachu at 100 by the time i got to the Elite 4 and had a Dugtrio at 65?

Thought I was unbeatable until a friend with Blue had used the Missingo cheat to duplicate Rare Candy and he wiped the floor with me because all his Pokemon were insane.

I need to find my Gameboy...
