View Full Version : Fav Brawl Strategies?

Alright, the title says it all. Please post the name for (or your name for) the strategy, and also your favourite character to do it with. Also as an added thing, if its an advanced strategy then post how to do it to help your fellow Brawlers!

Mine's finger-stomping. AKA Meteor Smashing, Smackdowns, or if you prefer simplicity, the downy-smashy attack from midair.

Fav character to do it with: Ganondorf, Falco and Toon Link

How to: Well its pretty simple, but I like it anyways. Use your character's down-A move in midair to perform a smash to the dust for any unlucky souls who happen to be in harms way. Can KO in low damage percentages if your opponent doesn't know how to recover from it (it can be done).

Go ahead, post!
(And be nice to n00bs, like me)

All right then, I'll post mine.

I call it the 4-Hit Combo, using Sonic.

First, do either Spin Dash and Spin Charge. When you collide with your opponent (Hit 1), rise up, knocking them with you (Hit 2). Then, use Sonic's up+A move to kick them twice (Hit 3 and 4). If you want, you can use his Spring to jump up and whack them some more.

So far, I've only pulled this combo off once.

Hmm I like Meteor Smashing also xD Mainly with my main character Falco <3

My favorite thing to do though would probably be Squirtle Hyrdoplaning.
You run forward then hold back so that you go in your shell, then you do a U-Smash while in your shell so that you slide while charging your U-Smash.

It would have been DAC (Dash Attack Cancel) which is the exact same effect but much harder to do and usually needs a GC Controller and I only have Mote+Chuck T_T

I also somewhat like (actually its become a habit and I usually do it out of instict xD) doing this combo with Falco where I Grab, D-throw, U-Tilt, jump and any aerial but usually d-air. Speaking of grabbing....Chain Grabbing is win <3

Jigglypuff: Dair combos. Use it over and over again, the finish the combo with a well placed Rest

Lucas: Nair to AAA combo, the PK Fire. Great stopper effect; interrupted enemy combos very nicely

I mainly use Kirby and Jigglypuff, the two best at jumps. With Kirby I use an air assault, with a lot of DownB and UpB. Jigglypuff has a lot more combs though, like juggling with SideB then UpA a whole bunch. I'm sad that Brawl took away Jiggly's unique ability, the OHKO, with the Smash Ball.

lmao its Brawl, all you gota do is pick metanight and use his almost broken like attacks to win all ur matches, if your not a fan of metanight than Snake and his insanly unfair mortar sliding will propell you to victory, GG

My three main characters: Game and Watch, Bowser, and Kirby.
Mr. G&W: I do his little side-b (I think. :P) where you hit the hammer where a random number multiple times. You usually get one above 5 at least once, and an 8 or 9 if you're lucky, so every now and then you get a OHKO.
Bowser: I like his side-b as well, where he grabs someone, jumps up in the air, flips, and smacks you down. It's a good way to deal some damage, and it just plain looks cool. His little shell spin (up+b) is pretty cool too. ^___^
Kirby: His rapid pound. It's so fun to trap someone between and item and your rapid pound. (A button) I also like his down+b move, it's easy to do, and hard to dodge if you're just above the ground.

Diddy Kong

Lay down bananas, monkey around a bit while jumping and shield rolling away from them. Once they slip, Dash attack into U-Smash -> Short Hop Fair, then edge guard. (Done with GC Controller)

I also enjoy Diddy's great Meteor with one of the best recoveries in the game.

I play an offensive Zelda. I mainly use Din's Fire for zoning and damage and her ground smashes for KOs. If I'm online I rarely try to land her fAir. The lag makes it difficult.

I don't use much strategy I just run around and beat the crap out of people but I hate people who always run away and wont charge that=noob IMO seems how they're afraid of their own skills so they run and refuse to fight. But I do love aerial combat I like to jump a lot and try and hit them in the air multiple times.

I use Lucario all the time, so mine is d-air abuse.

Why am I not suprised?

Alright, got some more:

Toon Link: Aerial Assault FB
This isnt an official name, just got bored and tried this.

Accumulate enough damage to have TLink's Attacks have sufficient knockback. About 50-70% should do it. Then either throw or smash/upA the opponent into the air from the ground and jump-follow them with a series of frontA, backA or neutralA air attacks to keep them flying. If they catch on (which they probably will) then instead of attacking, fake them out a few times with dodges to keem em guessing, then get back into the offensive. When the damage is a lot higher (Anything over 120%) Then either use a downA aerial (to smash em to the ground, METEOR SMASHES!!) for a setup to a lean-up A attack, or just use upA aerial if you think it'll work. Keep in mind a few things:

-DONT use the Dair or Uair attacks until over 120%, because it wont come as much of a suprise later on.

-I didnt say Usmash to finish them because it oddly doesnt have as much driving force as Utilt, I've noticed.

- Don't solely use this combo to get higher percentages- combine it with your own personal strategies to severely improve results.

Also as a side note, if you're gonna post here, please dont just be like:
"OMG Metaknight and Snake pwn n00bs lolz roflcoptr lolrbladez" and leave,
and don't just be like
"Duuuuuuuuude just run around button mashing it works!"

This is a STRATEGY board, people. Post actual strategies, like what Grassy_Ag did on the first post, or like zukirin and DTurtwig.

(Not to say you others who put thought into yours didnt do it right, those were just some examples.)

My favorite combo with Ness: PK Fire, PK Fire again if the opponent's heavy enough, grab and dthrow, then nair/fair/PK Thunder. Easy for me to pull off and does a fair amount of damage.

I. HATE. IVYSAUR'S. SPECIAL. ATTACK.
Also, meteor smashes with Mario and using his FLUDD/Cape when I can, and yeah, actually found a way to make use of his B Down, mostly when your opponent shorthops alot it leaves them vulnerable in mid-air. Plus, I tend to use FLUDD more than meteor smashing, and using my cape when they try to come back (when they use their Recovery move, though it doesnt work with Pit, Snake, or ROB)

Alright. Well with Falco add some damage with laser. Maybe B+Up to get them in the air. Then, smash up (unless Kirby) and eventually kick em off stage. And to tick people off, i trap them with falco's rapid kick. Then with Lucario I throw a couple charged aura spheres, maybe a double team or two, then smash off. While there in in range, I like to force palm once or twice.

Okay, good strategies coming up... guess i should add another, huh?

Name: Ike Strikes!
Purpose: Setup for Smash attacks (mainly front smash and Usmash)
(I describe this as if youre fighting on final dest.)
Character: Ike (duh)
How to: Okay, basic damage accumulation first. I prefer to max. distance quick draw into the opponent to start; if it hits great, if not then dodge into position. Start with standard A combos and counters to keep the heat up, then follow up into aerial attacks when they start flying around from your attacks. you can also aether from appropriate distances (or spike if you can) to bring them back down to the ground and get some decent damage when you see fit. Then once you think theyre ready, smack 'em over the edge of the stage with a sideAtilt. if they recover too easily, then either get more damage on em and try again or use a dsmash over the edge to knock em away.

Now heres the tricky part: when the opponent is trying to recover from a far distance, use your sense of judgement to guess if theyll make it back with their recovery special move. if they arent gonna make it, dont bother doing anything. if it looks they might live, then start charging up your side smash so that itll be done charging when they're about make it to the ledge. then, once theyre about to grab the ledge...

Release and WHAM! IKE STRIKES!

Its a near instant KO if they're high enough in damage. You can also try a simple jump into a Fair attack if they can float/fly (like jiggly, kirby, meta, dedede, pit... you know) because otherwise theyll just come right back at you.

I know this is really hard to pull off sans interruption , but think of how effective it would be if you can master it!

...
well i tried.:susp:

I got a good one!
Chara: Ike
Purpose: To kill your opponent.. duh.
How to: (Fin. Des.) start with a Forward B to get into range of them, then maybe try an UpB if they're light they may stay in the air longer giving you a chance to land and jump up and knock them away with ForwardA. After try a DownB. (So far this works for me) At this time they try and get an attack so on the ground do a Fsmash. then they'll fly off and most likely try to do a recovery and edge grab. Stand by the edge and do a regular holding downA and it should knock them straight down from when they edge grab. :T

In place of fast falling, use Bdown in air.
In place of going the other way quickly via dashing, use rolling dodges.
Using these not only speeds up Ganon's momentum a bit, it also allows for multiple combo setups.

I.E.:

Bdown into opponent, who will most likely dodge. When move ends, roll dodge away from or roll behind them and use Atilt to knock them away, or A to stun. Setup for dair spike via dodge then Uthrow or Bdown then Uthrow, and jump for spike. Usmash for good distance in air and jump with Uair for knockback, then dair spike over edge and WHAT?!? That or just </> Grab off the stage, then Aether.

With Fox, grab an enemy, d-throw and then d-special attack (reflector) Pretty good combo with minimal chance of failure and can do the job quickly, unless you fight someone who really has good timing.

With Meta-Knight, d-throw and then use standard B attack (mach tornado). TIP: Press the B button repeatedly for a longer attack and you may even rise into the air a little bit.

This one takes a little while and a lot of practice. With Link, grab, down throw, down smash, up basic, up smash, then up B. I have legitimately killed a Lvl. 9 Zelda who entered that with no damage.
